A long jam,a real masterpiece!!!! with Ian Underwood on sax!!!, Don Sugarcane Harris on ( fretless) violin ,Max Bennett on bass, and Frank trading solos. Ian goes wild !!!! followed by Sugarcane on violin and Frank on guitar. A nice percussion and drum break by Paul Humphrey, follows, then Frank and Sugarcane trade screaming solos. Check out Frank's feedback towards the end under Sugarcane's squealing violin!!!!! Thanks for your reaction!!!!
it is NOT the same violinist. The violinist in the video is Jean Luc Ponty. The violinist on THIS song is Sugar Cane Harris. Don't be confused by the fact that Jean Luc Ponty does in fact play violin on ANOTHER song from this same album (It must be a Camel) but not on this song. HOWEVER... the Sax player here IS the guy from the live video...HIS name is Ian Underwood. AND...Once again.....To make things VERY CLEAR....The sax player from the video and the violinist from the video.... ARE...NOT...THE SAME GUY!!!!!
One of the great tunes, and there are so many writen by FZ, actually list feels endless, I try to listen to a wide range of music, but always return to Zappa. The king of unique.
Wow Frank Zappa does not decieve, he is the genious of improvisation an alchemist of music, all the things that Fran touches is gold , thanks Rory for your new video and xoxoxo to Nala👍👏🏻🎸🎷🎺🥁🎹🎼
Drums Ansley Dunbar Sax Ian Underwood Violin Don Sugarcane Harris (diffrent violinist then the video you saw) This is the version that came out on the original album, but there is a 30 mins plus original non edited version that came out recently on the hot rats sessions, it's basically the full recording with no edits, wort6h checking out, it's called big legs
This is the highlight of Hot Rats for me. Peaches En Regaloia is the most famous song and a steady concert opener or closer, but this piece is balls-out jamming!
@@Frunobulax74 I prefer the original vinyl release mix. Having both illustrates how good of an editor Frank was. Listening to more of Funky, I find some of the original (long unedited versions) are good jams, but not something worthy of release. As I said in another thread, being that Funky sessions came right after Hot Rats sessions, quite different and overall not worth releasing.
@@Frunobulax74 I'll give you that, but I do like where that sax blast comes in just around a minute in on the original vinyl. I have all the time in the world and a penchant for editing sources together. I'll start the remix and edit in the vinyl version at just the right place and have the best of both. Hotcha!
@wowwhywow - Hi Chris, I'm not thrilled with Funky. Too many outtakes and jams that Frank never would have released. Definitely not Hot Rats II as it was advertised.

Which goes back to my statement about what a great editor he was. And we can agree to differ, but I like the original Gumbo better.

There's a great cover of this song on the Tube by an online community called Zappa Jam.
there is a new triple cd that just came out from this exact same Zappa formation. and it'scalled Funky Nothingness.
