Peaches En Regalia is such a wonderful song.
Agreed. I love especially those off-beat drums.
My sister turned me on to Zappa when I was 10. I'm now 64 and still loving every minute. You have started a journey my friend, and you will not regret it.
When I was 15 my first boyfriend had this album and turned me on to Zappa. We stayed in touch our whole lives and he passed away last year. This so reminds me of him and the great times we had in the late 60’s early 70’s. We even saw him live. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
Music is magic, how it can transport you, change your mood, bring emotions and memories flooding back.... yes, magic. :)
So sorry Karen E
My wife thanked me for introducing her to new music like Zappa and Richard Thompson.
@@2wayplebney ah, Richard Thompson what a great artist and live performer… I was lucky enough to be at Zappa’s concert on June 6th 1971 which was released as a live album. What’s not on the album is the encore when John Lennon came out and played with The Mothers of Invention…
A masterpiece. GENIUS. Frank taught me everything about life. QUESTION EVERYTHING.
Nice one. So true.
I always love me some Zappa. Hope you'll do Apostrophe, The Grand Wazoo and One Size Fits All too at some point
Zappa isn't for everyone,
BUT ITS FOR ME!!!!🎸
factinator33 lol for sure he was my favorite growing up but very few of my friends liked him could not understand that . Progression was worth buying unlike ccr that all sounded the same . Always felt I got my money’s worth with Zappa
@@gerard1954 agreed
that's because they wouldn't know good music if it walked up bit them on the arse!!!!!!
I first heard this in 1970. I loved it but never pursued Zappa's music until 1993. I have spent almost thirty years obsessing about his music and am a die-hard fan. He is always circling back into my listening over any given month. I know of no other artist who quite affects me like Zappa. Hot Rats is a wonderful place to start. I would also recommend 200 Motels (very different) Joe's Garage, Waka Jawaka. His orchestral work is also phenomenal; Yellow Shark was where I reconnected with him, Lumpy Gravy was were it started though! The original Mother's albums are stunning too! His synclavier music, although not everyones bag, is quite amazing. Civilisation Phase III is remarkable. You WILL become completely in awe of his genius and try to buy everything!
I started in 1973 and have not stopped. Roxy is my favourite.
There is no going back after hearing this album.
If I had to recommend one song to hear Frank Zappa for the first time, it would be Peaches en Regalia
Can NEVER go wrong with Hot Rats. It is a masterpiece to top all others. I will say though that my favorite Zappa album is One Size Fits All.
the lineup on "One size fits all" was the best.
I bought this album in the Spring of 1970. Along with some friends we dropped some acid and listened together for the first time. We ended up spending the night in a park and the grass was reddish pink. You don't forget those nights. I see it was pointed out to you that Captain Beefheart is featured on Willie the Pimp. I heard Troutmask Replica for the first time at the end of the Summer of 1970 with some pals just after a friend arrived to tell us of the death of Jimi Hendrix. We were tripping that night too. Another night you don't forget. It was a baptism of fire for me at the time and I grew to love Beefheart. You should check out Safe as Milk and something like the Spotlight Kid for a gentle introduction
Love this story! 😁
The amount of badass drummers (and musicians in general) who've you never heard of on this album hurts my soul.
They all deserve our recognition and they will never get it.
First album I ever heard of his. Quite the gem
Wonderful that you're doing more Zappa, and even better that you're experiencing whole albums. I would suggest something like One Size fits all next.
Definitely 👍🏼
HOT RATS WAS MY FIRST ZAPPA ALBUM TOO
Good innit!!!
Crisp clean Sound, didnt expect that. Nice gear setup Jim.
Thanks matey! 👍🏻
This was my second outing with Zappa. The first was Uncle Meat via a German radio station in the late 60's when I was 10. Hot Rats and Abbey Road being the soundtrack to me and my chums building our model railway layouts!
You can see why the German bands loved him so much, those driving repetative loops with a central hub of guitar flurry. Can,Amon,Kraftwork
This makes sense.
His son, Dweezil Zappa, is going on tour playing this record! Going to see him in March.
Ive been to 3 of the Dweezes shows,
And I had to pick my jaw off the floor every time
@@factinator33 Glad to hear. Missed him last year, so very happy he's coming close again!

Adam Lindsey I saw him in arcata northern cal few years back had the chance to talk to him after the show told him I remembered when he was born I said this kid has no idea what he’s been given he said “ I found out “ I said sure did thanks .
@@gerard1954 WOW, AND AWESOME HE IS TAKING FULL ADVANTAGE OF ALL HE'S BEEN GIVEN...🎸
At the age of 12 in 1966 I found Frank Zappa and his Mother’s of Invention !!!
FIRST ALBUM, A DOUBLE ALBUM: FREAK OUT
IT CONTAINS: HUNGRY FREAKS DADDY & MY FAVORITE: TROUBLE COMING EVERY DAY !!
LISTEN TO TROUBLE AND THE LINE: “I’M NOT BLACK BUT THEIR’S A WHOLE LOTS OF TIMES I WISH I COULD SAY I’M NOT WHITE”. Gave me chills at the age of 12
First rap song
Great choise, this will be interesting! One of my favourites from Zappa.
For me the greatest Album of 1969 it stands out more as time goes on.
The vinyl sounds great even through my headphones Jim. I could listen to Zappa with you everyday!
The album sounds even better without the crackling and reduced frequency range. Try CD. A vast improvement.
@@schragemusik vinyl is vinyl...i'll always take vinyl over CDs.
Good Lord, you have a lifetime of Zappa goodness to get through. This is a great album, but by no means and by different judgements, his best. One Size Fits All, Apostrophe, Joe's garage, Civilisation, Roxy(!), Overnight Sensation and a zillion others await you.
I was supposed to go to Woodstock, but had a supplementary exam to write the Friday morning it began. By the time I got back from the exam, all highways leading to the festival locale were blocked, making any prospect of hitching impossible. My consolation prize was that Frank and the Mothers were playing 5 free concerts the same weekend in my city. I attended each one and had the pleasure of interviewing Frank between two of them, and meeting several of the band-members. The day after the last show, Frank broke up the band because, in his words, "people wouldn't know good music if it bit them on the ass". From brief comments made by band-members, it had apparently been a rough tour. Hot Rats came out about 2 months later. When I spoke with him, Frank told me that he was always working on arrangements, and whether he was on the bus or in the hotel, he always had a bunch of HB pencils, a pad of music paper, and a portable electric pencil sharpener.
My father is a diehard Zappa fan. Grew up hearing Zappa in the car. Immense talent.
Great to hear some vinyl action
Sure is! There's a lot more to listen to as we go along! 👍🏻
Appreciate you for doing this.
Zappa released 62 albums during his lifetime and 51 after his death making some 113 album releases. Truly genus. So much to recommend but if you could do Joe's Garage I think you'd be amazed. It's an opera so should be listened to in its entirety or at least in the Acts 1, 2, and 3. Hope you take a deep dive into Zappa.
Oh boy, that’s a lot of albums!!!! Eek!
@@JimNewstead an easily accessible instrumental is " Sexual Harassment In the Workplace" , Nice to see you read the comments. I'm really enjoying your channel, Keep up the great work,
Listening to Zappa solos is like having multiple tantric eargasms that just keep giving.
Yes. We all thought it was Jimi, but it was really Frank. But Frank preferred composing and directing, so it became Jimi.
The adventure of Gregory Peckery on studio tan is a trip. Love to see your traction one of the best examples of franks talents.
If you want to hear more of his jazz/fusion stuff, I'd suggest the albums "Waka Jawaka" or "The Grand Wazoo" - you'd love those. They were released when he was in a wheel chair after an accident during a gig in the UK.
I adore Waka Jawaka - I want Dweezil to work his ass off for that tour.... he needs an orchestra - - - check out Berkeley kids doing a medley with Waka Jawaka ( i prefer the original of course but it's great all the same) ruclips.net/video/244i-MKFP40/видео.html
SSSHHHSSS Mr.Frank Zappa is playing..... a unique musical genius composer....
This is the first time I hear the vinyl version of this album. It sounds quite different from the remastered version. I once heard that he had to rerecord a lot of the material for the remastering because the tapes had been preserved so poorly.
very good zappa always nice to hear ....
Review of Hot Rats ,just gained you a new subscribe.Quality biscuits.
I'm really enjoying your channel Jim. Came originally for Porcupine Tree but stuck around.
Thanks for sticking with it!
first time hearing a zappa record . it's pretty good .
This album, from 1969, starts off with Peaches En Regalia.
In 1981, I played Peaches for a friend who responded by asking "Is this new wave?" Well, if a (then) 12 year old song can be considered New Wave, then I guess Zappa was at least a decade ahead of his time.
Zolar Czakl Try 50+ years ahead of his time.
@@Hrth6
You're probably right.
I do expect Zappa music - the good stuff, not Dancing Fool or Valley Girl - to be the stuff of university-level music appreciation courses.
Delving into Zappa's philosophy and wisdom should be studied as well.
GREAT choice, Jim!
My one and only Frank Zappa album! I love track two with Captain Beefheart. I bought this album because it was featured in the book Mojo - A hundred classic album.... or some such title.
Your one and only? what's the matter with you? you need money? I'll send you a copy of Absolutely Free by the mothers :)
The older I get the more I appreciate Zappa and his works. This is the real progressive rock.
I studied Franks music for about 18 years. There isn’t much Zappa I don’t like. His music transcends and labeling and covers all styles of music. He was a slave to his love and dedication of music. Enjoy all 127 or so albums. Cheers!
Love the video effects... fit the music well, Jim.
Awwww, thanks! A bit of fun really....
Best Peaches rendition...Live at the Filmore with Flo and Eddie.
your video effects are perfectly "Zappaesk". Especially, when the light goes on @3:47. You are digging very deep, man. Congrats.
hope you find more special moments.
You Are What You Is! very easy listening for Zappa and every song is fantastic.
The Bass player is AWESOME...I agree
If you look at it as total ART ...that's Zappa !
1969 was a different musical universe ..
Jeez! I thought I was on bad weed there for a minute. I was happily nodding away to Frank's amazing solo when I happened to look up and see you through what looked like a membrane or something, like when you break through on a DMT trip... it took me a few seconds to figure out it was just your video. Note to self [mumble, mumble, mumble]
Vinyl is so clean on a good system.
EVERYTHING Frank Zappa recorded between 1969 to 1981 is genius and worth getting
I never knew where to start with Zappa man so thanx for this. Looking through comments has also given me a bit of insight. As always thanx for the content and be sure to check out Elder - Sanctuary. Peace.
Thanks for listening and commenting Samuel.
Really enjoyed the camera angles, effects and editing. Great work Jim. Always improving, I like it :)
Not listened to massive amounts of Zappa but whatever I do listen to I enjoy. This was really nice and chilled. Perfect for a Sunday evening.
Back to my suggestions.
The Faceless - Autothiest Movement part 1 to 3.
Thanks matey, gotta keep growing and evolving, might have overdone it a bit with the FX but all good fun! Thanks for sticking with it dude! 👍🏼
@@JimNewstead maybe a little bit overdone but not so much that it took away from the content you provide. I like the fact that you do it in time with the music. Its a bit like a music video. Pretty cool yo 😊 👍
Boom! I just clicked the 100th thumbs up...Great video Jimbo! - Your light diffraction effect in Peaches is exactly how I have always envisaged that part of the ditty. I also loved the psychedelic effects during Willie. May I ask what software programme you use for your vids?
The Strat that FZ used on this album is none other than the one that Jimi Hendrix burned and smashed at the Monterey Pop Festival in that iconic performance. Per his son, Dweezil (a monster player himself, and who also has the guitar) explained that a crew member gathered the broken remains after the show and gave them to Frank because he thought it would look cool hanging on the wall in his studio, but instead, he decided to rebuild it and use it. Now Dweezil plays it when he plays his fathers music on tour with his own incredible band...which often times includes former members of the original Mothers of Invention. Dweezil usually plays the SG you see Frank playing in footage, like Inca Roads, etc, but he breaks out the Strat from time to time. If i am wrong on a point or two, someone please correct me, but this was from Dweezil in an interview.
A great Zappa album. Peaches en Regalia is one of my favorite Zappa songs. Your video editing skills are moving toward a level of professionalism. Multiple views work great! The first glow effect on that particular section of the song looked funny and worked well. But I immediately started to follow where this is going, because the effects can be a box of Pandor in the hands of unaware, if you follow my drift. But yeah, you made it. The using of visual effects stayed between the borders of good taste. Though there were moments of walking on the edge. Good work, Jim! Definitely added something, some visual attraction to your video, thou your content has always been perfect.
Haha, thanks for being diplomatic Pasi, I might have overdone the FX, but just playing around, I’ll figure it all out eventually!!!!
@@JimNewstead You should know that diplomatic is something I'm really not! :oD
great to see and here Zappa's music being enjoyed. Zappa reaction videos seem to make most folks smile. Hey Jim try the song Apostrophe. Great rock and roll tune.
Sure thing.... will add to the list!
With Jack Bruce
On bass
A masterpiece.
One of the top album sides of all time!
That drum was masterfully mixed. I felt that shit.
Nice one, Jim!
Oh and as always recommending Psychotic Waltz - Into the Everflow.
Jim - I would HIGHLY recommend them as well. Different than Fates Warning, different than Dream Theater.
That was my 1st album by them, it was a "blind purchase" at a local Warehouse Record Store when they started selling used CD's. It was a HUGE surprise how great it was, as I searched for anything Prog Metal, and it was all over the place as far as moods, complexities and melodies. I became a huge fan. I guess they are FINALLY going to work on the new album next year?
The vocalist "Buddy Lackey" (aka Devon Graves) also fronts the, sort of, Dark Prog Metal band, "Dead Soul Tribe", and the spooky horror band "Shadow Theory". Both worth checking out Jim. I believe I sent and linked this playlist under one of your videos featuring DST in it: ruclips.net/p/PL2DU3TBNutEcnr_Fjq-ZMNeALABnPjz_S
And the next one with a Psychotic Waltz track: ruclips.net/user/playlistlist=PL2DU3TBNutEdwcerQSEcG8MU8qp1bxkqu ).
Hope BOTH of you enjOy :D.

wilie the pimp, what a jam. Endless originality and it all works. Worthy drum and bass. Check out the uncut OD1 take.
great album! Zappa is one of the greatest composer/ musicians of all time! love me some Captain Beefheart also
Even though it’s a bit of a mission, I think Zappa is an artist where a chronological studio album listen through has merit. It’s not all good, but it is always evolving.
Phew.... a deep dive is required - this could take some time! 😁
I'm likely to edit this post a number of times since this is one of my all time favorite records. First, this review gets an automatic like from me, even before listening to it!!! Second, Hot Rats is largely known the be the fist LP that fused jazz and rock. Many followed Franks lead, which is a common theme in his career. Third, I've been requesting Peaches En Regalia on numerous reactors' pages for two years easily - Jim you're the first to react that I know of. Thank you!
Wow! Ok, thanks for the seal of approval, I really enjoyed this record, and still four or five days later, I can't get it out of my head. Brilliant! Think I'm going to have a long and pleasant relationship with Mr Zappa's music 😁👍🏻
I've been listening for decades and I still find stuff I haven't heard before. If there's such a thing as too prolific - Frank was that.
Ahh, yes. Real music.
Q crack Zappa es lo mejor q le pasó a la música
Wow peaches en regalia sounds completely different on vinyl
Zappa on vinyl is the best
the CD is largely remixed
My vinyl sounds very different from this and my CD is different again.
The editing is nice.
Thanks! A bit of fun....
Zappa's first solo album
My favorite Frank album! Such a talented and versatile musician. Who else could have Steve Vai as a backup guitarist? Though not on this album😁🙏
Roxy & Elsewhere and/or You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 2 Side 2 - in my opinion the best Zappa band. They could do anything.
ZAPPA IS AN ABSOLUT MASTER. A MUSICAL GENIUS
Not my favourite Zappa album but still a great collection of tunes. Zappa amassed so much material it's hard to know where to start. Nice one Jim for diving into the pool of Zappa :)
Splash!
Perfect first album for you to purchase and remember this is from 1969 ....I said 1969 !!!
Don't know if you've done this Jim. Perhaps you can. You should listen to the Frank Zappa record Shut Up N Play Your Guitar. It's kind of like the freeform jam in Willie The Pimp only much much better. It's a box set. But you could at least spin the first LP. Jams like Five, Five, Five, and Shut Up N Play Your Guitar definitely get one up on Willie The Pimp. Don't get me wrong though, Willie's a classic!
bienvenue au club mon ami et merci, tu me permets d'écouter cet album pour la 10000 ème fois !
jej zap j attend la sortie en coffret fin decembre .et une écoute de plus pour ce vinyl que jai 🤣
Zappa rules!
The first time I heard Willie The Pimp was at a friend's older brother's house.
I already knew a little about Zappa, having been introduced to the Flo & Eddie-era Mothers maybe a year earlier by my older brother's friend. Anyway, the first time I heard Willie, a fire engine was going by outside with the siren blaring and it actually fit nicely with the music.
Great memory of a first listen to a great tune.
ZAPPA FOREVER
Frank Zappa was a composer, remember that here. Peaches et al, composed music.Enjoy!!
Hi Jim, to wrap Up 2019, or startup 2020. I have this 19 minutes masterpiece of request. sound of contact - mobius slip. I know you are busy but really Hope you Will do this one as end 2019 or start 2020. Leadsinger is Simon Collins, yep the son of Phil. And Simon sings and dont get chocked, he plays the drums also🤣
This is one of my top most influential albums. It was like "NO F'ING WAY!! ROCK AND JAZZ AND BLUES AND VIOLINS AND FUNK AND STUFF?!?!......WHAT?!!?"
Funny, how different this mix is in comparison to the cd. It's much more extreme. Others don't, but I think, I like both.
It all started with Hot Rats.
That's Captain Beefheart singing Willie the Pimp, you HAVE to check his stuff out! Trout Mask Replica. Good luck!
Joe's Garage.. Them or Us.. Sheik Yerbouti...
Yeah, Joe's for sure
Have a go at The Orange County Lumber Truck on 'Weasels Ripped My Flesh' please !
Now you'll need to listen to Willie the Pimp on the Filmore album. But you have to do Mr. Green Genes.
Frank always utilized his bass. Crank the bass up a bit on his music. Thanks. Just a bit.
billy the mountain is a must to review
Yes because Ethel was a tree growing off of his shoulder.
For anyone who is already into Jazz, The Grand Wazoo off the same album is a great entree into Zappa. For someone simply wishing to stand in awe of Zappa's guitar mastery -- without any of his less-accessible musical detours -- then a listen to the all-instrumental Trance-Fusion is in order. That may sound boring. It's not. Enjoying your reactions. New sub.
Wow I am only recently trying to get into Zappa, only bought one album so far... But this one is way more my speed !
Which is the one you bought? And most Zappa fans favorite is Roxy & Elsewhere.
There's the original album and the 5 CD set from a couple of years ago. The single CD is tweaked and edited by Zappa and really great.
