I first started reloading in 1965. Back then there wasn't any IMR or H designation given to the powder. Just 4895, 4831 , etc. But, I have to concur with your statement concerning IMR 4895, IMR 4064 and RL 15. I have found an extreme versatility with these powders and all render extreme accuracy. You give very valid and accurate information in this video. Well done!
Thanks. Many years when one was out at the gun store I would have to use the other. when I got into High Power I used to get pull down powder in the #8lb keg from Jeff Barlett and Pats reloading out of the shotgun news. That was before you could just go on line and order it, Before computers. I bought projectiles the same way and the M-2 Ball round was my favourite 1.000 rounds for $21.00, they had some pull marks, however, they shot just fine out of an M-1 I had at the time. 47.0 IMR-4895 was the load. 47.5 with a 173 special ball or 168 gr BTHP. Dave.
I disagree on your comment of 180 gr. bullets for 308 . Using 4064 powder with 180 gr. sst Hornady shooting .560 group at 2645 fps. could load faster but what for. already faster than factory rounds.
I purchased the Bullets from Winders reloading supply. Funny thing was they shoot awesome for what they are. My fave load is 41.7 gr of IMR4895 over a 168gr BTHP match bullet. That loading is the clone load of the M-852 Military Match cartridge. Good 600 yard loading. Dave.
I have tried it on a rifle I have been having a problem finding a load it likes but did get the tightest group out of all I have tried but it seems to have a very tight window for accuracy. It's not real forgiving at least in my trial. I do think I will be trying it again when I get more powder. I use a auto powder measure RCBS Chargemaster Lite and my powder is getting too low to work with it. I will be getting an 8 lb keg of powder next purchase. I use this powder in my .223 Rem loads and it works great.
I have the exact same electronic powder measure and I can't get it to dispense 4064.....ALWAYS overcharged! I have it set to slow speed also. I notice yours trickles slower than mine.
I depends on what you are trying to do with it. Good old Elvis over on his channel uses 4198 for his cast bullets in .223 and 300 AAC. He seem to be doing all the right stuff with it and some guys are slowing down the Video to see if they can catch his secret.. hehehe (Just kidding) However you just have to try different powders out there, Years ago I had a Load that came out of the Hercules manual, It was a 150gn Rem core lock using 2400 powder, I used it for Varmint control out on the farm, Worked excellent as a reduced load. You can try some of the other powders out there like IMR 3031 or even faster, I believe that 4198 or maybe seeing if there is a load with AA1680 or AA2230 will do what you are asking me about. Be careful though always consult your manual dude. Good shooting to Ya.. Thorsaxe777
I like watching different (knowledgeable) peoples' videos about similar things. You never know what little tip you might pick up, like breaking in the stock and hunting bullets. I'm playing around with 180 grain Speer HC, and 165 gr Sierra GK's in my .308 right now for deer season. Good stuff.
Great powder , varget is a good one as well ,thanks for the video.
Varget, rel 15, imr 4064, w748, all good powders for 308 bolt gun.
REeloader 15 is perfect with 168 gr. Hornady match bullets and 10" twist barrel.
42 grains imr 4064 with 147 or 150 to stimulate miliary old rpunds usually start spot fir most 308

Jeff, I haven't tried CFE223. from what I can see people have been trying it with good luck.

Thor's Axe
Cfe 223 is slower than varget
Great Vel but very temp sensitive
Went back to Varget and IMR 4064 in 308 win
Please do a video on how to set the bullet sitting die. Got the same one but every 3-4 strokes will shorten the COAL...

Try the straw trick?
@@rifleshooterchannel208 Not yet, but I will.
Kenneth D Good luck man!
👍👍. ? I use 4198 in .223 so I can throw a low powder charge yet get good velocity, it there a good powder for .308 that will do the same?

Do you have a preferred load for 125gr bullets using the IMR 4064?
