Milwaukee Tool has been working on industry-specific tools for some time. Mechanics and Metal Fabricators get a great tool with the new Milwaukee M12 FUEL 1/4" Right Angle Die Grinder. To my knowledge, this is the first cordless right angle die grinder. There have been M12 sanders and polishers that can be fitted with 3M Roloc pads, but never one with the versatility of a die grinder.
Milwaukee Tool always wants to properly compete with the tools that Mechanics are using, so they worked to provide more power than cordless models. Many technicians will tell us that air is free in the shop and they have little benefit in buying battery-powered tools. In this case, users get more power in a size professional service mechanics demand. Milwaukee Tool rates this right angle die grinder at up to 0.3 HP and tells us most pneumatic die grinders this would compare to are .25 HP.
Another benefit to going battery power is the ability to use the 4-Mode RPM control and variable speed trigger to know what the max RPM will be. This allows for a larger range of attachments that might have lower RPM ratings., and the mobility to fit in the tightest spaces.
This is a FUEL tool so it features the Milwaukee POWERSTATE Brushless Motor and
REDLINK PLUS Intelligence hardware and software to keep the tool safe and at its peak performance.

I chuck this up ruclips.net/user/postUgkxmwiwyX3ADeryrwvcsiwLeKxme6QNQmGL with some carbide bits and use it almost exclusively for grinding out bad welds. It's quite large in size, but having the handle located right near the tip gives you a lot of control.I'm mostly impressed with how remarkably quiet it is. That alone is enough of a reason to switch from the air-powered alternatives.Tip: It's easy to get a carbide bit to walk/chatter and then break. You can reduce your chances of that happening if you are firm and steady with your material removal. It helps to grab it with a second hand right at the BLACK handle near the bit.
I love using this tool when I do brake jobs it really makes cleaning up the corroded surfaces quick and easy. Good video man.
Thanks so much for sharing this and putting it to the test. Especially beyond what it should be used for. I've been waiting a long time for one of these to come out
Truly amazing to have a cordless die grinder for sharpening, metal prep or anything else with the roloc discs. So many options! I've been waiting for this for months
You still have it?
Sweet Milwaukee coming out with some nice tools. Always nice to see it used before you buy. Thanks Brian great job
This tool has changed my work life
I've been looking this kind of tool.
And when I searched. Your video comes first.
Good job Bryan
Just bought this the other day, it is absolutely incredible! In my opinion it is one of the best tools they have ever made for M12.
What about the brushless ratchet?
Great channel, solid review 👍, can’t wait to get the two I ordered.
Thx Brian going to pick one up when they come to the store.
Definitely sold on this, can already see me using this for cleaning gasket surfaces and prepping aluminum for welding
Just got mine, works awesome, best part, its whisper quiet.
Oh God, another Milwaukee tool I gotta buy. Thanks for the review.
Ordered mine yesterday from Acme Tools along with a Pack Out to put it in supposed to ship on Monday can’t wait. Looks awesome thanks Brian great review as always!
You will love it!
Just got one of these, I love it. It’s sooo nice not having that ear piercing noise from an air powered die grinder and no more dragging the air line around. It’s absolutely brilliant for grinding welds in tight areas.
I’d like to buy the straight one too but I’m not made of money so that will have to wait lol..
my hearing is damaged from hearing air die grinders a lot when i was at my last job.
This will be great when getting rid of wheel weight adhesive residue inside wheels definitely going to pick one up for that purpose.
Just bought one. Looking forward to using it. Thanks for the review!😊👍🏾
Just ordered mine and a 3/8 m12 ratchet. Milwaukee is on their game with the power tools. My m18 high torque 1/2 impact will put the newest snap on guns to shame and has put a new Matco 1/2 pneumatic to shame also. Thing blows my mind. The mid torque 3/8 is a beast also .
Looks like a great tool. Love the m12 line. So far ratchets and stubby are my favorites. I may add this and the 3inch cutter soon. Was also thinking about the telecoping light as well. Only problem is I have more m18 batteries than m12.
I've been waiting for this
I am a diehard Dewalt fan so I’ve been waiting for a launch of something like this tool in black and yellow. Oh well , I’m not waiting any longer. This tool is nice. My order is going in. Thanks for the great video as always 👍
Damm. A few years back I decided to go with the Bosch 12 volt line.
Should have gone with Milwaukee. They are constantly coming out with great new tools!!!!!!!!!!
Bosch seems to be happy with the tools they have out and content adding nothing. I do not know why.
Roger JK it’s not too late too switch over or too start a new platform and run both.
Roger JK I have both, Bosch has tools M12 doesn’t. The Bosch 12v planer and router are awesome, the jigsaw is 10x better then the M12. But M12 has better automotive tools.
just get whatever tools you want. don’t let them mentally check you into a battery line. Batteries have to be replaced periodically anyway.
@@joeframer9642 Bosch makes the best jigsaws in general IMO
I liked how you explained the pros and cons, that’s what I like to see on every review… no Bull, so to see if there’s improvisations needed from user; thank you sir. Yes, I’m on the market for this tool being the reason I went for vids to see if someone had one.
As a welder this tool is handy, a must have for metal working. Like all Milwaukee stuff it is expensive I would have added that as a draw back in the vid. Thnx.
Im going to go get one of these on my next paycheck
In 2 days I'll finally have time to use mine...can't wait😁
Not just good for mechanics welders out in the field are gonna love this !
Shawn yeah, but how well will it do with carbide burrs? I really want to know because I want this tool
@@noahnippard9544 I wanna know that too
Top notch review thanks! 👍👍
Thank you for a solid review!
I have been writing Milwaukee for years to make this. So looking forward to get it
Glad they listened!
at school these are the only air stuff we have left we call it the wing wing
Good review , looks very usefull !
Excellent review, can't wait to find one to buy!
People are already buying them. Acme, Tool Nut, Ohio Power Tools.
i'm getting one of those for sure
Great chart on the sizes and disks
Awsome information..Just ordered myself one..
I’ve been wanting and needing a die grinder but just couldn’t bring myself to spend the $250 that Milwaukee was charging for it. But now with patience it’s on sale for $149 with a battery. I’m definitely buying that joker today will be at my house tomorrow 8/2/22. Man I can’t wait Thanks a lot for your review you always give great unbiased reviews and I respect your options a lot.
I just got one and it is awesome!
I was just looking this up last night right on. This seems awesome.
The one concern I have as a replacement for pneumatic die grinder is the size of the motor head. It appears to stick out further than a 2 inch roloc. For a burr or stone the discrepancy is even more extreme. A pneumatic has the air motor in the handle and uses a rt. angle or 120 degree gear drive to turn the collet. That makes the head very small and it will get into places that this one will not. For example, I am sanding rust from the inside of some tool cabinet drawers that I am restoring. To do the inside of the drawer sides, I would have to use a 3 roloc. With a 2 inch the tool would hit the draw bottom before the disc. I am sure there must be other situations where the big bulky head will prevent it from replacing an air grinder.
I maybe should have watched this video before buying but thank you for uploading!
Great vid
Amazing tool
Pretty neat tool
will buy it now thanks
I used this tool on my brake caliper and it made an indentation in the metal ..
Thanks for the review! I got mine finally, and my collet doesn’t release right away either but then I realized you have to loosen the nut a little more and it will automatically pop the collet loose and then your shank will come out with ease! Hope this helps someone.
Very nice die grinder Milwaukee came out with
just picked one up today
I need this!!!!
Hey Bryan I stopped by for another look at the grinder and I can honestly say this would definitely make my job easier and more productive in the mechanic shop I would love to get away from the corded drill for cleaning mating surfaces from what I see Milwaukee hit it out of the park with that die grinder thanks for you time and a chance to win it have a blessed day #workshopaddic
This tool is awesome.
I need thisss!!!
I've been waiting for this to become available!!
Your wait is almost over bud.
Found a badass deal on this, but I’m debating on getting it. $179 for the grinder, 2.0 battery, 4.0 battery, and charger, and bag. Hell of a deal, just debating on if I’ll use it enough. I do have straight and angle pneumatic grinders, but this could be very useful.
Thanks for the review, looks a lot bigger than my mini chicago pnumatic 90 air grinders. Cool tool though.
This will be GREAT for auto detailing.
I need this ASAP
Anytime I am interested in a new tool your channel has it
As a Milwaukaholic, I have to have this!
Really good points, gonna hold off till they fix the issues with the light and a handle. They need to add a handle you can maybe take off and put on as necessary.
I found myself rebuilding a Cummins ISX CM-871... I needed a die grinder to remove several gallons of RTV before I in frame it, no gaskets, just RTV... I bought both the straight and angle Milwaukee units. The straight grinder was nice getting in behind the front structure of the motor where the angle die grinder would not work. As of now, I have been using the 3M Roloc Bristle Discs to remove the RTV from the block. I have to say, these die grinders, are the BOMB! Do not put pressure on these like you would with an air grinder, they will shut down, let the tool do the work. I wish I would have bought these years ago. If you find yourself using a die grinder, I would get both if you are doing engine work, or need to get into odd spaces. And if possible, stick with the 3M Roloc heads and tools, the Chinese stuff is hit and miss at best. As far as run time, and lack of a compressor for a proper die grinder, the batteries are inexpensive, I use the Amazon Chinesium knockoffs, you can get a dozen of them for what you would pay for a couple of Milwaukee batteries. Up to 9 volts, no issues. Beats the minute or two I would get with a 20 gallon compressor.
I'm really impressed with the m12 line, I recently got the 3/8 fuel ratchet and the 1/4 impact wrench and I find I'm using the 12v stuff more and more over the 18v. After serveral hours with the 1/2 hammer drill installing gutter guards I really appricate the lighter power to weight.
I agree. The M12 line rocks and will do a lot of work!
agree. there are a lot of times when the 18v tools are just too much and you don’t need all that right now. The 12v stuff is just better suited until you need bone crushing power.
I can't wait for the cordless M12 bead blaster, which is probably the best tool to clean that intake manifold!
That intake manifold is junk. Just used for testing this tool.
I want one for resealing pans and covers
this thing is adorable. I'll buy one in a month or so
You need the 2 separate spanner’s to be able to change the bit in the tools
I’m a millwright that does some heavy metal fabrication in stainless steel. I used this but to me it’s too slow to do I any real world fabrication. Long run time and torque is needed so it’s back to either pneumatic or electric die grinders. I did find a really good use and it’s to clean weld burns on stainless steel with a wire wheel.
I'm interested in this because I'm using my drill with wire wheels and things like that and I can tell it doesn't really like the side load.
Just can't wait until they get battery power down to the compactness of air tools.
Now we need a straight m12 die grinder
With variable speed!
It’s coming out they show the straight one on the book that comes with the angle grinder straight will be out very soon
It exists already
Never mind 2 wrenches why not a arbor lock button ? Or keyless chuck?
My concern is the ability for a 2" roloc to get all the way into a corner. A pneumatic has the motor in the body and a right angle gear drive that puts the chuck at the front edge of the tool.. This one gets rid of that by putting the motor in the head. It saves power and cost but the head apears to be as big as a 2" roloc. I have been cleaning up the drawers of a tool cabinet. Will this tool put a 2" roloc flat against the inside of the drawer sides and back, like an air tool? I could go to a 3" roloc. That fat head concerns me as a 100% replacement for an air grinder. I have been waiting a long time and this is currently the only one out there, except for a very expensive corded German model.. My question is whether the chuck center is less than 1" from the front of the tool? Thank you very much for checking.
I have a 1/4 angle die grinder a pneumatic one i like that is very small and the end where it spins and very compact and it sounds like yours is far faster than mine but it says 20k rpm and yeah i wanted it for the roloc discs the bristle ones. I had it somewhere and i couldn't remember where it was but i found it but hey and electric one? I'm interesteeeeeed i like.
Wrks good on head gaskets jobs just like air one to me but better.
Now we need some Milwaukee Sativa
What accessories do I need? I'm new to this product. Do I need hilder shank for the abrasive pads and bristle discs?
I like the tool but I wish the led light was in a better spot. They should've mounted it somewhere closer.
Great tool but I’m looking forward to the m18 fuel 2 post lift with the led light arm kit.
There is an m18 hydraulic power pack... so you could power a 2 post lift with Milwaukee batteries if you wanted.
I just cut through a 7/8” hardened steel bolt like butter and still have half a charge on 6.0H battery.
That is a nice tool, but a big price tag for such. I would love the mobility of not being tied to an air line since I already have a good selection of m12 tooling. $369.99 (CAD) for tool only puts it out of reach for most hobby users unfortunately, when a good IR right angle air can be had for $99.
ShawnMc749 they are 170 here in the states at Home Depot, take a road trip!
It’s great for a mechanic that does breaks to clean all the parts like behind the rotors and the calipers
Mechanics dont do breaks we wait on parts to do a brake job
Maxwell Peter agreed, we don’t have time for breaks but will work on brakes all damn day
What about orange cookies for grinding down brake pad contact points
Real review, it cuts out all the time and heats up for real jobs, air is so much better for this application, it's good for around the house but keep it away from the shop.
Acdelco branded made a right angle cordless sold.from napa
I’ll keep my 2-stage compressor and CP right angle grinder. It’s a little noisy but I’ll never have to replace batteries on it and it cost me a third of what this tool costs.
Absolutely!!! I've been using the same air tool's for 20 years!!!
Keep Rocking it out!!!
Hi Brian,
Like that milwaukee m12 angle grinder. Differently going to pick one up.
Watching the video i see you where showing the m18 straight die grinder. Man it would be nice if milwaukee can make die grinder on the m12 platform.
Thanks for the video
I know it
I believe a new die grinder is coming. :)
@@WorkshopAddict
Awsome, can't wait to see it..
Thanks
@@michaelc7283 Not sure what you are asking?
@@WorkshopAddict
Oh, you mention new die grinder coming soon. Just wanted to know on which battery platform m12 or m18
There is already an m18 straight die grinder on the market. I believe Brian is saying that there is a m12 straight die grinder in the works.
A clamp on or screw in handle would make it better I think
I have been looking for a corded version of this tool. I can't justify buying a large compressor just for one tool. This battery one is the only other option.
what about hand vibration? and given the consensus is this goes through batteries, how long to charge them?
hi gents would a compact 3amp battery be enough to run this tool or go the xc4amp battery size up?
I just cant imagine the battery lasting long. I really like their 12 volt tools but you always have to have multiple batteries on hand because they die so quickly. Stepping up to the 4.0 batteries are a must .
nah 6.0 son
So I recently got one of these, and love it.... Buuuut I also found out that die grinders really is not a thing in my part of the world. They are basically only used by car painters, making them and all their accessories very hard to find, and very expensive when you do find them. What complicates it even more is "die grinder" doesnt even have a name here, its litteraly referred to as a general grinding device so when you search for it, you get EVERYTHING from angle grinders to belt sanders.
But it doesnt end there, since we use metric here i get a 6mm collet instead of a 1/4 inch one. 1/4" is equal to 6,35mm and that difference is enough that US made stuff cannot properly fit in it without wobbling like crazy. Not exactly what I want from a cutoff disk that spins at 25 000 rpm, so then buying off the web kinda goes out the window too.
So I guess my 2 options are to either sell it, or buy a 1/4" collet which is $60 with shipping and tax... and pray it fits?
what set of "tips/bits" you guys recomend for this tool?
Why does it stop when using it? I used mine first time today and it kept shutting off all I was trying to do was wire brush clean aluminum
I really want one but I can buy a .75 HP air one for half the money of even a USED Milwaukee. I use 3" rol-loks and really hog material away sometimes. I need the power. This doesn't sound like it would do everything for me. Maybe I'll buy one on sale sometime for light tasks.
Perfect tool. I have the m12 polisher but always wished it was fuel because battery life is rubbish.
I got into m12 because of the polisher 😂
The M12 FUEL polisher is a good tool!
@@WorkshopAddict Do you prefer the die grinder or the sander/polisher for engine stuff like removing gasket material?
@@matty_w For sure the die grinder
@@WorkshopAddict Awesome--thanks!
Surprised there is no shaft lock button
Got mine Friday…it’s awesome…just made it better…placed a piece of light cardboard between the trigger and safety lever….now it’s much easier to use..no more flipping that stupid safety lever…😀😀😀…paid $ 139.00 plus tax on Ebay….😀
I just got one of these it makes a noise when I let go of the switch fast Is this normal???
