Hi Everyone, since some of you had issues using this Macro, I've updated it now. Hopefully it's going to work better for you. For all those who have already downloaded it, please update the Macro from the PreSonus Exchange Browser. The steps are identical as those shown in the video; the only difference is that you have to click "Update" instead of "Install" this time. :) -GBY
It's still clunky and we still need the option to freeze busses as available in ProTools (I hate to say this) and other DAWs. I usually have a lot of busses going into other busses (kick bus, snare bus, tom bus, cymbals >>> Drum Bus >>> Band Bus >>> Master Bus) if for example, I wanna freeze the "drum bus" this macro wouldn't work at the click of a button under these circumstances. Freezing is of paramount importance, I always run out of CPU on studio one and I work on a Mac Studio with M1 Ultra CPU on it. So please add this feature ASAP.
It looked like that was mixing down tracks inside of a folder track rather than a bus track. My question is: If there were processing on the bus track instead of using a folder track as shown in this video, would it still render the plugins on the bus track? I'm guessing that because all of the audio tracks are routed through the bus processing, that it would go through the processing prior to rendering.
Gregor! Thanks for this but WE NEED PRE-FADER transform/freeze on channels and busses so that we can still adjust levels and pans to transformed/frozen tracks.
@@BNLNRD no.. the way transforming currently works is like rendering individual tracks. Pre-fader preserves all fader and pan levels/automation between transformed state and none transformed state. So if you transform a track, your fader remains in the same position, and if you do automation while the track is transformed and then decide to revert it, that automation remains and is not lost. Also currently when you transform a track, all layers are lost… EVEN if you revert back to the original… so you lose all your alternate takes if you transform a track.. which makes transforming most vocal tracks impossible. Transforming needs a BIG overhaul

Well, the most important thing is not happening. There is no group processing render. If there are heavy plugins on the groups that give a delay, this method is useless.
This is awesome! Since this is a workaround though, do you think presonus will actually just make this a real freeze bus feature soon? Seems to be one of the most requested features I constantly see being asked for.

To really freeze the track. You should really be using the Bounce Stems on the menu bar. This will allow you to bounce the whole processing with the Buss and Track in one folder combined. Just click import to track after. Afterwards just disable and hide all the bounced files and replaced it with the rendered one. In case you need it after. Just another workaround. Still you cannot adjust something once it was bounced. Really not that useful when you are in the middle of editing and you want to adjust some levels or panning. Note: just be sure to just check the box on the bus you want to render. Not the tracks inside it cause it will render them too ( unless thats what you want ). Hope it gets sorted out soon in v6!
@@marxul If you had a plugin on the bus channel Gregors method would not capture that effect, only the channels. You would need to re add the the plugin to the new frozen track. If you bounce via the stem track and import to mix it will have all the plugins that were on that bus.
Thanks Gregor! Very useful macro, thank you. However there is still the problem of the plug-ins on the bus channel itself, being used to equally effect all channels within the bus. Ok, this confuses me: In the tutorial Render Options in Studio One from 2 years ago around 8:00 of that video, you demonstrated, that the bus fader gets mixed down when using mixdown selection of tracks inside a bus. From my experience it is true that the bus effects will get mixed in up until the master, but I am not 100% sure. Could you clarify this?

Sorry Gregor… but this is NOT freezing any bus.. we want to freeze the bus inserts!! not only what is in the group !! This is just freezing multitracks…. the bus is where we have the most plug-ins eating resources …… that’s the main reason why we want to freeze the bus! Otherwise we just freeze the tracks with plugins no need to mixdown multitracks
Agreed. I end up making a new channel and set the record source as the bus; record into audio. It would be so helpful to be able to create an event block for bus channel and mixdown selection like that.
100% I said the same...he replies saying most of the intensive plug ins are on tracks and sends....obviously doesn't do pro mixing- everything is on those buses, all the heavy lifting is there, as you said this is the while point of bus rendering. It's embarrassing that they don't even understand the correct concept of what a bus freeze actually is. As I said on the thread the only real workaround is Export STEM and import to track, then disable everything. All these people saying this macro is great is fine for amateurs- totally useless for pro mixers. Sort it out
Actually this still is the quickest way to freeze your bus inserts. You mix down the tracks using the macro he supplied, copy the inserts of your bus onto the resulting track and then transform to rendered audio. I agree, I would love to have a option to transform a bus into rendered audio without all the extra steps but right now this is the quickest way to do it.
I think it does, but I will test that today. When using mixdown selection is the same as if you Solo the channel. It includes all processing and sends. But Ill check that myself.
I doesn’t freeze the bus inserts , which is the main reason we want to freeze the bus, in other words , it’s just trying to cover up a big missing feature in Studio one requested by many users long ago.
This is another useful tip and Macro thank you. However, The actual Bus channel is using the bxconsole plugin...which by all indications is still engaged. So a more accurate title would be How to freeze channels WITHIN a Folder Track.
I was so looking forward to using this. But when I've tried it on any song with several folder/busses and I try it with the tracks in one bus, the first thing the macro does is HIDE ALL THE OTHER BUS-FOLDERS. They're still there...just hidden. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe there's some setting in S1 on my system that's messing it up? I'm in Windows 11.
Hi Gary, sorry about that! I'm not able to reproduce this on my system. Perhaps it would help if you would open the Macro Organizer in Studio One's menu (found in the menu bar at the top), search for the "Render Selected Tracks" Macro, and remove the command entries "up" and "down"? I have included these to bypass a focus issue in MacOS, but perhaps that is not necessary on Windows. -GBY
Tried this . Its a great idea , but in execution it cleared all my tracks . It did render, but everything was disabled . I mean like the entire mix. Needs another fix. Is there a tutorial on writing macros?
Hello Gregor, I tried the Render and it hides all the other tracks of the songs, not only the rendered/selected ones. with control Z I can't go back to find the tracks again (but there are still there, no worry, just hidden). Do I do something wrong?
Sorry im not clear- does this actually print the inserts that are on the bus channel to the mixdown track? It looked like the insert effects were still active on the bus
Hi, you're correct - The bus processing would still be active. Only the virtual instruments, insert effects, and sends from channels that go into the bus - usually the "performance hogs" of the project - are being rendered. -GBY
Hi Gregor. I'm having a minor problem with using the Macro (yes, I've updated to the newest version). When I activate the Macro, ALL of my tracks are then "hidden", not just the ones I've frozen. Not sure what's up with that. Of course, I can unhide all of the desired tracks after the mixdown is complete but, this doesn't seem to be what happened for you on the video. I'm using the latest update to SO6 Pro on a Win10 machine. Please advise.
Hi Mark, very sorry about that....I am unable to reproduce this on my machine. Looking at the Macro in the latest version, only disabled Tracks should be hidden - all other Tracks should be shown. Could you please double check that you have the correct version by removing the old version from your Documents / Studio One / Macros folder first, then re-downloading? Very sorry for the inconvenience. -GBY
I don't really like using folders. I tried to use this (NON_FOLDER) way and it just hid all the chosen tracks but did not make a mixdown of selected tracks? Am i doing something wrong or do not work when working outside of folders?
Hi, the command "Mixdown Selection" works on any multi-selection of Events. Using a Folder or selecting Tracks is not necessary, unless you're interested in using the Macro workflow that I'm showcasing in this video. Just select the events that you want to render, and then trigger "Mixdown Selection" via any keyboard shortcut of your choice. You can also select it from the right click -> "Event" menu. Hope this helps! -GBY
Hi, please update the Macro through Exchange once again - I’ve made a slight adjustment as it wasn’t working well for some people. The behavior you’re describing should no longer occur. -GBY
Great work, we need a list of the top 20 most useful macros ;-) I use the Elgato Stream Deck XL to create physical buttons to trigger macros in S1. It is a gamechanger and is also a custom remote for alle the functions I need.
Thanks, Sindre! I've actually consolidated some of my favorite Macros in my personalized Macro Toolbar (available as a free download)! Here's the "guided tour" video if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/98B-hvKpJJs/видео.html -GBY
This is awesome if you get a mix with 100 background vocals. That just happened to me today. 😂 Now I can batch mix down the stems and go from 100 to maybe 6 BGVs. A bit more easier
That is an okay and temporary solution, but I hope Presonus will implement an actual freeze button without rendering that can save CPU usage, RAM, and hard drive space. In other DAWs, the goal is to save computer resources completely, and there is no other way around it. :)))
it doesn't work even updated - tracks hide, you get a rendered mixdown but the effects on the bus and the bus itself are still active. I'd rather wait for bus group processing render.
This is not the way to freeze a bus channel exactly. It freezes the channels inside the bus, not the bus itself. The processing on the bus is still there with plugins enabled. For example; I have a bunch of processed bus channels like Kick, snare, and Toms going to their own busses and then to the main DRUM bus with many plugins on them. There is nothing on the audio channels, I'm only processing the bus channels. So, freezing the tracks does not work here... This is a very old feature request on the Presonus forum that I follow :/
Nice macro Gregor. The power of Studio One macro is a huge advantage against competitors. 30 years in the industry, tried all DAW. 9 years with studio one and it's definitively my favorite, I can't go back to the other ones...
Hello there! How are you? Please, it would be better if people who have done so many things add to this. I'm tired of adding plugins. that's right! for example, when you click the right mouse button on the audio file, why is the tune and transposition not automatic? and again press this right button for example tape stop, scratch, etc...
Hi, sorry that the Macro isn't working right for you! There aren't any commands in this Macro that would delete anything, though. It can only hide things from view. If you open up the Track List on the left, you should be able to find all of your disappearing Tracks there. -GBY
Hi Elias, sorry about that - I think I've found the issue now. Can you please update the Macro by searching for it once again on PreSonus Exchange (as shown in the video)? -GBY

From my experience it is true that the bus effects will get mixed in up until the master, but I am not 100% sure.
Could you clarify this?
is there a way i can get it without using the cloud. i cant go into the presonus exchange
Nice. Does this workaround include FX sends that are attached to audio events within the mixdown?
Hi, assuming you mean insert FX? Only insert FX can be attached to audio events as so-called "Event FX". If you mean those, then yes - they are rendered in as well. :) -GBY
@@presonus I mean FX sends, not inserts. Like an aux, but for FX
Gregor rocks!
Thank you so much for your content. You've helped me tremendously and helped me be a better mixer. I've got studio one 6 and I'm hoping you can help me with an issue I have with the software. I've clicked the studio one tab and then the installation option. However, installation failed for impact xt kit and sounds, electronic audioloops, bigfish audio loops and kit, and a whole bunch more. Can you guide me on what the issue may be, and how I can fix it? Keep up the great work!
Hi, thank you so much for your kind words! Please reach out to our support team so that we can quickly help you resolve this issue: my.presonus.com/support/open

Thank you so much brother for taking the time to make such a useful tool for us to use!!! I sincerely appreciate all of your videos, they have taught me so much.
Any macro update to the 6.6 version? This is priceless
Does mixdown selection work pre-fader or post?
So great to know that .
Very helpful
How do you still make time for making music?
Thanks man! Very cool, but the macro hides all tracks in the session besides the one rendered. I tried fixing in in the macro editor but couldn’t figure out a workaround. This is pretty much unusable. Anyone have a fix??
you just have to remove the first step in the macro editor which is "show/hide selected tracks" or something like that.
Hi Jerad, I've updated the Macro - it should work as expected for everyone now.
Please update the Macro from the PreSonus Exchange Browser. The steps are identical as those shown in the video; the only difference is that you have to click "Update" instead of "Install" this time. :) -GBY
@@presonus it still doesn't work right because it's hiding all other tracks just like it was before
Sorry Gregor… but this is NOT freezing any bus.. we want to freeze the bus inserts!! not only what is in the group !!
It would be so helpful to be able to create an event block for bus channel and mixdown selection like that.
agreed
@@deluxenz same here 🤷🏻♂️
100% I said the same...he replies saying most of the intensive plug ins are on tracks and sends....obviously doesn't do pro mixing- everything is on those buses, all the heavy lifting is there, as you said this is the while point of bus rendering.
Will the macro also print the bus inserts and sends alongside the mixdown?
I think it does, but I will test that today. When using mixdown selection is the same as if you Solo the channel. It includes all processing and sends. But Ill check that myself.
@@oscarpatxot659 Good.
I doesn’t freeze the bus inserts , which is the main reason we want to freeze the bus, in other words , it’s just trying to cover up a big missing feature in Studio one requested by many users long ago.
Awesome 🔥
oh man this is awesome, this is why i love studio one, macros!
This is another useful tip and Macro thank you. However, The actual Bus channel is using the bxconsole plugin...which by all indications is still engaged. So a more accurate title would be How to freeze channels WITHIN a Folder Track.
Man, this is great. Good job!
Gregor is the best
Hello Gregor, I tried the Render and it hides all the other tracks of the songs, not only the rendered/selected ones. with control Z I can't go back to find the tracks again (but there are still there, no worry, just hidden). Do I do something wrong?
Hi, try updating the Macro. I’ve improved it and it should work better now. -GBY
-GBY
Totally the opposite for actual mix engineers. The CPU intensive stuff is on the bus channels. This isn't bus freezing at all mate.
How to bounce audio of instruments with multiple outputs? Eg all single outs of impact ? please
Hi Elias, I have a dedicated one-minute video that walks you through all of the steps. Hope this helps: ruclips.net/video/dFBE-4zGCgI/видео.html

-GBY
Thank you! Unfortently for me its not working correctly. Hides all other tracks in the project. Freshly installed Studio One 6.2.1 on Mac
Freeze folder track is much needed as well.. Freeze to a plugin slot(like pro tools) highly needed. Also render Mixfx(ctc) is still impossible. #Sad
-GBY
hi Gregor, I just downloaded it but the macro hides all the tracks, not just the ones involved in the mixdown
Here's the "guided tour" video if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/98B-hvKpJJs/видео.html

@@presonus thank you very much. I keep returning to these videos again and again. It really is a reason on its own to swap to Studio One.
This is awesome if you get a mix with 100 background vocals. That just happened to me today. 😂 Now I can batch mix down the stems and go from 100 to maybe 6 BGVs. A bit more easier
Hey Gregor, is it possible to render a send effect? Let's say i want a reverb send effect as wave file.
You could cntrl/cmd shift E and export channels or busses or anything and click the option to import the exported track back into the session.
@@adithyasatheesh127 Thank you. Not a bad idea actually.
That is an okay and temporary solution, but I hope Presonus will implement an actual freeze button without rendering that can save CPU usage, RAM, and hard drive space. In other DAWs, the goal is to save computer resources completely, and there is no other way around it. :)))
Isn't "freezing" always rendering?
it doesn't work even updated - tracks hide, you get a rendered mixdown but the effects on the bus and the bus itself are still active.
That macros works in SO 4.6?
Thank you Gregor!!
Nice macro Gregor. The power of Studio One macro is a huge advantage against competitors. 30 years in the industry, tried all DAW. 9 years with studio one and it's definitively my favorite, I can't go back to the other ones...
Awesome to hear, Nelson! Glad to have you with us. -GBY
Hello there! How are you? Please, it would be better if people who have done so many things add to this. I'm tired of adding plugins. that's right! for example, when you click the right mouse button on the audio file, why is the tune and transposition not automatic? and again press this right button for example tape stop, scratch, etc...
Is it possible to load studio one 5 projects in studio one 6?
Yes
@@SomebodyPickaName nice thx
Yes, but you won't be able to open it back in studio one 5 if you have made any changes to the project with studio one 6 version.
Fantastic! thank you very much for the hard work you did on this.
Priceless
So, if you wanted, or needed to fix something in that drum mix, you just need to delete the mixdown?
I got really excited about this. But after I ran this macro I'd lost most of my tunes. It seems to delete a lot of stuff. So not really that useful.
Hi, sorry that the Macro isn't working right for you! There aren't any commands in this Macro that would delete anything, though. It can only hide things from view. If you open up the Track List on the left, you should be able to find all of your disappearing Tracks there. -GBY
@@presonus ah thanks, I got a bit scared there.
that hides all other tracks a well here after render ?
Hi Elias, sorry about that - I think I've found the issue now. Can you please update the Macro by searching for it once again on PreSonus Exchange (as shown in the video)? -GBY
Thank youuuuuuu Greg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm still unable to understand why after all this time, studio one is still missing a proper freeze tracks and busses (which is the main thing) feature. You guys do understand that there is no easy workaround for this as for now? and do you guys understand that we all have our sessions full of plugins and all the time we run into CPU overload? Do you understand how much we need this feature which is always available in any other DAW? Just so I know, are you listening to us? read the comments below, read your forums, everyone is asking for this feature, what are you waiting for?
Thanks Gregor.
Man I’ve been needing this
so simple, thank you 😎
The micro is not for freezing buses, this is for freezing just tracks
Thank you!
Wunderschòn! Vielen dank, Gregor!
No. The only way to do this is to export stem and select the buses you want. And then manually disable everything going to that bus, includig all the sub buses. Long.
Can someone download and send through media fire? 🙏🏽
Does the render include what’s on the Master bus?
