    I really appreciate the "more advanced angle" that you represent your Studio One tutorials. It is really refreshing and different than other S1 tutorials. Really shows the depth Studio One has under the hood. Thanks for all your work! Looking forward to S1 7.

    I watched 6-7 different Version 7 reviews yesterday and (for me) this is the best. Not as many featured items, but each done so well that it actually provides value.
    As mentioned below, Tempo Detection
    Nobody out there showcased the idea of basing the detection on multiple tracks (in a sub-mix), and I can imagine this would be more meaningful to the overall result. Many fewer steps, although your detailed Tempo Detection videos provide other techniques that are still very valuable. NEW + OLD could be powerful.
    Global Transpose - with its consideration for tracks that should not be transposed (MIDI), could be very useful as presented.
    Stem Separation - Not bad and very convenient. I’m a fan of RipX, but this is very handy.
    Splice Integration - Not something I need or am likely to use.
    Love your presentation style.

    Just want to point out that when Marcus says "1 step" in the Transpose feature, he actually means 1/2 step. (Don't mean to nitpick, but it could be confusing for some people.)

    After working for 8 hours with the new Studio One Pro 7, (compared with the Studio One 6.4), i can say that by far the BIGGEST improvement, is the ergonomics and visibility ! HUGE difference, to help you see the various "events", and manipulate and arrange them much more easily. Even in the smallest view ( all view window) you can see and move events 500% more easily. So arrangement and composition is much more easy. Also , for those that they have and use splice , its much easier to incorporate a sample in your song. I have tried the rest of the features (global transport , launcher , impact edit view, tempo detection & stem separation) and i can say that although they are very useful , someone will use them from time to time and not always. From the above i found more useful the Impact edit view, which lets you put the kicks, snares, much more easily.

    Marcus, great coverage of the Advance Tempo Detection! This to me is worth the price of admission as it can save a lot of time when recording musicians without a tick track then enabling all the grid-based features of Studio One. There are a few things that it cannot handle yet, but I am sure it will improve over time.

    I don't think Stem separation works that well as an integrated product, because there will always be a 3rd party solution that is better.
    Apple is trying hard to re-brand itself as an AI company, so it makes sense for them.
    Steinberg has one of the better stem separation solutions, in their Spectralayers suite, but that is also sold as 3rd party, and the pro version is not included in cubase. One thing that makes spectralayers so powerful, is that it also uses the AI/Machine learning for other uses, like de-reverb, something that is actually a tool for professionals, so it isn't just a stem separation tool.
    But for any video talking about Stem separation, without any useful additional features, I think it is always best to be honest.
    The use cases for stem separation is to be able to use beats, or vocals, in a project at the sketch stage, when you don't know if you will end up ever publishing, so you actually at that point don't need to license the content (or get access to the original multis/stems).
    And with a built in stem separation, you can be sure that the reason to use stem separation with S1, is never to re-master a song where there are no multi-tracks available.
    For fun, you can use stem separation to create karaoke tracks, with S1, you even have the ability to show the lyrics and chords on a simplified screen.
    Or you can use it to practice along with the original track.
    But those are not pro-uses, so not suitable for marketing.

    • @ettiennelane9173
      @ettiennelane9173 Месяц назад +1

      Absolutely. I feel the same. No final use case for this feature. I use it (3rd party) for ripping guide vocals from client's example songs where I don't want their demo music, guitar or piano, merely so that I can have a soft vocal guide while producing a song's music. That's it! Everyone gets all excited about this feature. Why? Almost the same as the whole Dolby Atmos thing when 99% of people listen on headphones. All these features do sell DAWs though. I also find it useless to use a clip launcher for the type of music I produce. Anyway, the executives at Presonus will be smiling all the way to the bank.

    • @TheJonHolstein
      @TheJonHolstein Месяц назад

      @@ettiennelane9173 If Dolby atmos was a solution for making headphone mixes translate to speakers, or vice verse, I would see Atmos as meaningful. But it isn't. Atmos for headphones is an afterthought.
      But I am a fan of surround sound, so I'm glad they support it, but it should be quite niche.
      I have a different take on clip launches, I find them useful for sketching, and not just for loop based music, and I have heard the same from many others. So I do see a point of having that system. Combined with the chord track, and global transpose, and you have a pretty good system for producing sketches, and adopting them to singers. If you only have limited time with a vocalist, it is great to be able to get as quickly as possible to the takes you need.
      When it comes to stem separation, I have absolutely no faith that presonus will keep developing it, and improving on it, to catch up with the best. I strongly believe that they will just fall further and further behind the best.
      I am more confident in Steinberg, as it is a 3rd party solution and it already does more than just stem separation. I'm not convinced Apple will ever be class leading, but they might tweak it, to make most use of their NPUs in their CPUs, so as a technical demonstration, they will at least have some motivation to keep improving, and they will probably evolve it in to a more complete audio tool suite, in order for them to show off what their AI engine can do.
      For a very specific, and not personal reason, I am looking for a stem separation solution, and there is an argument that getting a DAW with it build in, at the price of Studio one, and possibly with a discount, because of possible hardware purchases from Presonus. For that specific use case, the result of the stem separation does not need to be perfect, but I still don't feel comfortable with suggesting S1 as a solution, because it does not seem to deliver the same level of quality that one can get from other solutions and I do feel my endorsement of a product should reflect some level of quality of the result, even if this level might be fine for that specific use case.

    Great video as always, much appreciated! But I couldn't be more underwhelmed by the features shown, is this really the best of it? Global transpose (couldn't this just be a macro if you needed it?), an integrated loop shop browser, and what is almost certainly the Demucs stem separation algorithm that has been free to use for years already. Increasingly I'm finding I only open Studio One for tempo mapping, which Bitwig is still catching up with. Maybe if the upgrade is discounted at some point I might move from v5, but this isn't looking like there's much future left in the software side of the company after the Fender acquisition.

    It would be nice if S1 could automatically name audio files when Chord track or Global transpose has been used, and commited, so we can see how it has been changed. If you can, you should always re-record the audio, but it can help a lot to commit and then not have to think about re-recording for a while.

    This is a very good update and it’s really pretty, but unfortunately it’s been extremely buggy for me. Crashed a powerful Mac a couple of times froze up once wiped out all of my templates and shortcut settings macros so beware if you upgrade back up all of that stuff first Luckily I had another rig. But even the rounded edges and the performance on the editing screen feels more solid. I’m sure the bugs will get worked out as they get reported, but this is a good one.

    Transients-to-tempo is not auto-tempo. Logic takes free-rec piano (no kick required) and Q's into clean notation (easier to edit notation, for that matter, as S1 forget Notion's auto-rests).
