Going on 4 years, with my Xmaxx. Stock motor, esc and traxxas batteries. I haven't broken anything yet. Stay stock and change your gearing and the truck turns to a real beast. I was going to go the hobby Wing esc way most go, but I watched Earl Moorehead's videos on different gears and boy the right gearing makes such a big difference.
Yep , agree 👍 I’m only using the max5 as the truck arrived to me with it. Stock motor , speed gearing , it’s a beast now and I’m having fun with it. Thanks for watching
The sweet spot is the 1100 with a Max 5. I got cheap Amazon hardened diff gears and aluminum diffs cups. 500k front 20 mill and earplugs center and 250 I believe in the rear. I did get GPM bulkheads front and rear and aluminum diff covers, to hold that differential in tight. GPM CVDS which are way thicker and a bash bar. M2C motor Mount and esc Mount as well. If deff did cost me, but I’ve been running the set up for maybe 2 years and haven’t broken anything significant, no gears no diffs.
I’ve watched some of your other videos and see how you treat and drive that thing. Been in this hobby since I was a kid way back in the 80’s. I’ve never modified any of my traxxas RC cars or trucks. Still have them all and still have no problems. Nitro and electric. But, I take good care of my RC cars and trucks. I don’t beat the crap out of mine like I stole them. My XRT is just over a year old. Only change, I added the belted gravix tires when they were available after the ultimate version came out. It’s all stock. Motor, batteries, electronics, and as usual, zero issues. I find it funny how everyone just loves to hate traxxas. That’s ok, that’s other people’s rights to have opinions on things like this. But hating traxxas just for the sake of hating them, or because you modified the truck, or drive it abusively and it breaks, and now you’re having problems, makes no sense to me. I also have some Arrma, Losi, HPI, and a few vintage Team Associated. All still in great working condition, and all still bone stock the way they came. No issues or things to complain about on any of them. Doesn’t matter what brand, or model, of RC you buy. If you modify the car and drive it like it’s someone else’s, you’re gonna have issues no matter what it is.
I don’t hate traxxas , if anything , I’m a bit of a fan boy haha. Yes , I bash my trucks , there toys , and it’s fun for me. I got this in a trade and it came with all the upgrades on , not my doing. I’m trying to make it bashable again. Have fun dude and enjoy your rc’s
I remember people lunching their X-Maxx gears with the big 800kV motor when I first got my X-maxx. Truck is designed for acrobatics rather than going fast in a straight line.
I have the 800kv and a max5 along with gom ring and pinions. I shimmed the ring gear and kept the stock cush drive with a 56 tooth spur and a 25 pinion. It does really well bashing but I think it's because of the cush drive saving it. I did break ring and pinions all the time till I tried the stock cush.
Yea the gpm stuff would work , but I don’t want to go down that road of upgrading loads haha. Back to stock mostly for me and bash it haha. Thanks for watching
Cracking video there buddy , Well who would have thought that the main issue was the motor ! Well we have been speaking about it for a few days and the weight of the 800kv was ridiculous , i think the endearing thing about the xmaxx is that even though its a tough truck thats big and brutey the weight of them is actually not as heavy as the competition , the xmaxx is the king of the jumps , keep adding weight and your asking for problems . Great to see you giving it some stick mate , im over the moon that your finally at the back end of your issues and you can finally enjoy it for what it is . Will say that the cush drive delete for me is a silly idea i mean any shock in the driveline is heading towards the gearing . Keep up the good work bud , cant wait till we can eventually get some big trucks together and let them rip . Stay awesome Chris :)
Thanks mate , yea I look forward to getting it down to you and giving it some hell around your areas. Yea the big weight might work for some , but not for me. I need light bashers
Last Monday i told my boy i would fit the Traxxas speed gearing to his xmaxx for the weekend. Thursday i fitted it, Friday i charged some batteries, Saturday the mrs had plans, Sunday was the day to use it. 20 mins drive to the woods and he stripped both spur and pinion in less than 4 mins, so had to go back home 😢.
@craigs-crash-n-bash No worries. The shorty is the 5690 motor. It is less torquey, but it still has insane torque. More than enough for the XMaxx. And it's 1250kv Actually, you could get away with using the new Max 6 ESC. That thing is good for a continuous 200a !
@@Diaszurana awesome I’ll look into that , so far I’m having good luck with the max 5 and back to stock motor , just running the high speed gearing ( in hardened steel ) but it does get warm, so when this motor lets go I will look into that one you’ve mentioned. Thanks man. Hope you enjoy!
I'm not sure why anyone would put an 800kv motor on a basher in the first place, the lower the kv means the higher the torque rating, but lower speeds. U need a minimum 2200kv on a basher.
When i first got my xmaxx i forgot to put the second bearing on the rear pinion and it chewed up the ring and pinion gear. Then i got new gears but got the 6s pinion by mistake, it made the mesh messed up and tore up the ring gear. Finally i got the right pinion and all the bearings in it and i haven’t killed another diff since. I’m on the stock motor with a max 6 g2, soon im going to get the hobbywing 1650 for it because i want more power but not 800kv power. I’ve ran about ten packs through it and all I’ve broken is the bumper mounts and trashed the body, making this the most I’ve had it out without breaking something major.
@ lol i kicked myself in the ass for that one but now i know to always double check. I really wish traxxas would pick a new way to name their trucks,it gets confusing sometimes lol. Thanks for making the content man!
Hey cool video, Never understood why anyone wants to put 800kv motors in the xmaxx.. I have issues with my xmaxx diffs and ive only got stock motor and max 6 g2, and I think I'm on punch setting 5 so half the punch it could have and it already has stupid wheelie power so why people put 800kv motors I don't know, there asking for trouble lol
I got an Xmaxx used with a bad esc …….so I jumped to get a high powered Castle system and immediately started breaking stuff on the first run….within minutes the diff gears blew apart….keep in mind I’m only running 4s with the new system (capable of 8s) It’s faster and way more powerful than the stock Traxxas 8s system . ….i knew this when adding the castle set up but didn’t think it would so much stuff…..after hundreds of $ invested I finally got an entire run out of it without breakage…😂
Oh I feel your pain , I got this used and it’s just not been able to cope with the bashing lol. Going back to stock things now though and it seems to be doing better. That new Redcat looks great ! Thanks for watching
I wish I could have said the same about mine. After doing all my changes I am now 5 packs through with no problems, so fingers crossed this is the basher setup for me. Thanks for watching
Max6 g2 1650kv should work good . A low punch feels good on the sensored motors imo . Good trigger response as it travels so it hardly goes past 3/4 or half but for a short sprint .
Just get the original motor the 1250kv which is smaller then a 56mm can and lighter...and use it on 8s and get metal gears from aftermarket and use the RC as it should....a bigger Can motor is not always good for an rc! It destroys it more cause of the adicional weight...and X-Max is a 1/7 not a 1/5 scale RC! :)
You cant call the Traxxas Xmaxx trash when you changed 80% of the parts to aftermarket, the whole video i was gonna tell you LEAVE IT STOCK!! traxxas built it that way for a reason....But you finally did figure it out, you cant put power like that on something built for half that power....Factory traxxas or with the optional Traxxas speed gearing is the 2 best options...I have a few Xmaxx's and XRT's all stock drive train...I upgrade driveshafts, drive cups, links, steering blocks, you get the idea, but power and gears i leave stock and have normal wear and tear problems...
