so basically fallout's answer to 40k ceramite
Similar I think!
@@UraniumFever76 both are ceramic alloys (ceramite is ceramic + titanium while saturnite is a ceramic alloy with other unknown components), are incredibly tough, and even heat resistant
technically, ceramite does exist irl in a way in the form of cermet and it's used for helicoptor propeller blades. however, there are plans to find a way to mass produce it and a 2006 recipe for a ceramic-titanium polymer has been created and is being tested before it can enter mass production

I always figured that Saturnite came from a meteorite (one of the component materials at least) that impacted the earth long ago, and that's why it has such unusual properties.

@@net343right, it would be a good insulator
@@WhatDuhDogDoin kinda not, as part of a good insulator is to not absorb heat at all, this one is like a heat battery
@@net343 So, it's basically titanium. For those who don't know, it has a pretty low heat transfer coefficient compared to other materials we typically use for that sort of application like steel, aluminum and copper. It also is very resistant to heat, so it takes more to melt it. About 400c more than steel. So you can basically still go step inside covered in a suit of titanium into an oven that would melt steel; but only by a few hundred degrees of safety margin.
It's also resistant to corrosion. And as we all tend to know, is lightweight, and very strong.
Saturnite is basically a Titanium alloy.

The power fist is also a cooking utensil. Thanks to the toaster, you've got the world's most unique panini maker.
A perfectly sharp knife poses less of a health hazard than a dull knife, fyi. Because you'll put more force into a dull knife than a sharp one, you'll have less control and possibly cut off a finger.
There are limits to that rule.
I think the premise is that it's so sharp that even barely any force would cut through even the cutting board.
True but i think this was so sharp it would cut anything even with the littlest of force, i remember in the game they mentioned destroying chopping boards at a high rate because of it.
In the real world, yeah. In the fantasy world where you can just keep getting arbitrarily sharper? nope.
After two hundred years of nuclear decay, they are the sharpest blades on the planet. You can grind them a bit sharper. When they were new, they would cut through tables if you _dropped_ them
A cool mod idea: a quest focused on saturnite alloy, where you could find saturnite alloy ingots and craft things like swords and armor
its not metal...its a polymer, it has no metal in it...you guys need to look into stuff. If you guys are fans, it seems to go in one ear and out the other, some bad fans there bro...like this is day 2 for every one in the comment section, if it is my bad...or more likely you guys don't know what words mean, OP didn't know what retention meant so assumed it was resistant...how can a knife that keeps heat for 200 years be heat resistant?

The funny thing about the superheated fist, if I'm not mistaken it's affected by the incendiary perk. You know the one that's useful for flamers, Shish kabobs, and incinerators? I'm like 15% certain that's a matter of fact.
That's the main reason it's good as I recall. Without Pyromaniac IIRC it comes in at a lower DPS than the unique Power Fist since it attacks slower.
15% sounds like a really bad guess, or you definitely know...the question is...why would any one not know this? anything that does fire damage and is a weapon is affected by a perk that gives fire weapons 50%......whats next, confused the exploding ammo is affected by exploding perks?
No, pyromaniac gives 50% damage bonus to all fire-based weapons
@@ravinraven6913 look dude the reason why I don't 100% know, is because of bugs. Sunfire related weapons won't be increased even though it should increase it because of pyromaniac and some perks just straight up don't work.

Ceramic-like Polymer Alloy.
So it's a plastic based metal that is hard like ceramic yet not brittle like ceramic. Neat.
its a polymer, but that doesn't mean its palstic, its more like Teflon which has properties like plastic but isn't plastic. No metal...if you spray a stick with it then its a saturnite stick...though if you heat that up it would burn the stick and leave a long stick shape holed lump of super hot...
@@ravinraven6913"it's a polymer!!!!!!"
That you can make materials and equipment with. F4 isn't the end all be able of how polymers are used. Sure you could spray it on something but acting like it's the only way they're used for appliances and equipment is weird.
Would Saturnite be useful for maybe power armor?
Definitely being immune to small arms fire

@@ravinraven6913 You don't have to superheat it... Saturnite is used in the armour of robo-scorpions, so I fail to see why it wouldn't be applicable for use in PA.
No. Any heat used on the material would retain that heat, ending up cooking you in the armor. There are bars of Saturnite that stayed superheated for over 200 years. They are heat retaining, not heat resistant. The only use? Basically hot weapons. 😂
@@derpyderp4014 Yeah obviously you'd need some heat barrier between it and you can't be full Saturnite but I think its possible

One of the most memorable weapons in gaming
super-heated ove-glove is the best 100%
I think one of my favorite lore bits about Saturnite is how that one chef at the Sierra Madre discovered it has such high heat retention. Basically he was cooking, and had to go do something really quick, and accidentally left his Cosmic Knifes blade on the stove. When he came back after 5 minutes, it had a glowing red, 450°f blade but was completely safe to hold by the handle. He took it off the stove and set it on a table, only for it to melt straight through

On the topic of cosmic knives, I'm sad I have to choose between either a super heated knife or a super clean on, like why can't I clean it and then heat it?
And then make multiple of them and turn them into a spear.

A sharper knife is actually safer, as it takes less force to use and therefore you're less likely to lose control of it while cutting.
Just don't try to catch a knife if you drop it. Rule 1 of kitchen safety, everything is either sharp or hot or both.
I remember those super heated saturnite fists, back in Old World Blues. Useful in a pinch. Nostalgia! 😆😎👌
The Super heated saturnine fist is one of the coolest unarmed weapons in the game. Lighting some poor raider on fire with critical punch is so satisfying
The way the Cosmic Knives were discussed, it was like they were almost monomolecular. Light pressure slicing through a full cutting board, stuff like that. A pity there weren't other weapons besides the knives and the power fists. Also, if it wasn't for the sheer amount of tech required to make it function, this is one material innovation that would make the Legion properly terrifying. Saturnite machetes would be nightmarish in close combat (though, skill issue - fumble it and you do your own rendition of A Farewell To Arms), and it would give them armor worth a damn.
This stuff would be an insane technology for heat batteries.
a sharp knife for cooking being dangerous is a skill issue. in cooking, a dangerous knife is a dull one
There's a certain point though, there are several prewar logs of chefs hating these knives because even the softest of graze was removing fingers, and or slicing through chopping boards and even the tables. Even with well sharpened carbon steel, there's still a slight bit of resistance and you can even hold a blade bare hand and strike with the pommel of a sword. Can't do that with the saturnite knives since they're basically of a supernatural sharpness.
1000 degree power fist challenge
Reminds me of Starlite because of the durability, the lack of a definite recipe, the space themed name, and the great heat resistance.
Saturnite always reminds me so much of the german tech store chain "saturn". The logos are so similar and all
Imagine a saturnite power armor
That would probably kill whoever wears it from the heat absorption.
Its kinda funny they embellished some stuff yet somehow the final product was still pretty damn good. Too good even.
saturnite power Armor would be unbelievable, and I want a saturnite battle-axe.
Weirdly enough, IRL most kitchen accidents happen because of dull knives, not over-sharp ones.
Right because in the real world there's a limit to the sort of sharpness you can get and the amount of pressure still needed for something to cut. Hence why you can have a razor sharp sword, and still hold the blade to strike with the guard or pommel, and not cut your hand.
The issue with these saturnite knives was that they're basically magical knives that are so sharp that the faintest brush was removing fingers, and they were just slicing straight through all the chopping boards.
@@insertname3977 sounds more like the fault of idiots testing knife edges with fingers and not buying Satunite Branded cutting boards.
Imagine trying to cut vegetables, but then you accidentally cut through your hand, the cutting board, and a piece of your counter
Bring able to punch someone with a burning first was always awesome.

I really hope Saturnite ends up in Fallout 76 in some kind of Big MT or New Vegas update

One of my favourite superheated weapons is actually the superheated Cosmic Knife from Dead Money. The recipe holotape for it is funny (being like an actual recipe and referring to the cosmic knife as a “piece-of-shit-cosmic-knife”), you have all the components nearby to craft it when you find the holotape, and I used it to kill Father Elijah (I had 100 in melee weapons)
