    Superb Flytoget immersion report 😀👍
    Flytoget Airport Express Train, as its name suggests, is a high-speed train designed by ABB (BBC and AEG Fusion) following a tender won by NSB in 1995 for its subsidiary Flytoget. ABB joined Daimler Benz in 1996, which became Daimler-Chrysler Rail System in 1998 as a joint venture. Adtranz Contraction of (AbbdaimLlerTransporationbenz).

    In 1998, ABB following its merger with the electric branch ABB in Sweden sold this 50% of Adtranz to Chrysler Daimler which merged with Daimler Benz to become Daimler Chrysler In 2000, Daimler Chrysler sold its Adtranz rail arm to Bombardier.
    In 2007, separation of Chrysler and Daimler. In 2022, following the integration of Daimler Trucks, Daimler becomes Mercedes Benz Group
    In January 2021, Bombardier was merged and taken over by Alstom under certain conditions from the European Commission.
    FlytoGet now belongs directly to the Norwegian State to order from the Spanish manufacturer CAF articulated OARIS-class EMUs put into service in June 2021; they were withdrawn a few days later following the appearance of cracks.

    Honestly these are a great a example of just how stupid many airport express trains are. They are also quite ugly in my opinion lol.
    I btw really like your focus on sustainability, something that's also very apparent on train news sites, but not particularly well covered on most other train youtube channels. You make great content, really enjoy your way of making videos!

    You should show the Airport Express terminal in Oslo Centrailstation in a review like this. What’s good about this train is it’s running non stop and you cam check in and print luggage tags onboard.
    And night trains in Norway are always sold out and at the moment trains Oslo to Trondheim is not going due to missing bridge after flooding. New trains are on order.
    And Noway needs a lot of domestic flights because of mountains everywhere… 7 to 30 hours in a bus, train and var is not for everyone.. And when you live in Norway with no summer a trip to Spain is understandable

    • @ariepaul
      @ariepaul 11 месяцев назад

      Not because of low traffic!! More then 110.000 people travelled with this ferry to Norway and back. It´s the situation in Eemshaven and the lack of support from the local authorities in Groningen.

    • @rowaystarco
      @rowaystarco 11 месяцев назад

      Ahh, I read in Norwegian news here that they struggled with a drop in travellers as well.@@ariepaul I think this line could have been a bigger success if it took people straight to Amsterdam instead, as I know a lot of Norwegian people would like weekend trips to Amsterdam. The DFDS ferry is quite popular because it brings people directly to Copenahagen. And the Kiel ferry at least brings people straight in the middle of Kiel.
      And of course those two lines are helped a as they depart from the middle of Oslo. But I guess this ferry was more popular for Europeans wanting to visit the lovely areas in the south and west of Norway.

    You must be extremely ignorant of the geography and topologi of Norway. In the intro you expressed "disappointed" that the flight departure board showed so many flights to domestic destinations. Are you not aware that most of these destinations are not served by railways? Without the dense network of short runway airports, especially in the west and North of the country, these areas would sinply be unhabitable? The STOL airports are absolutely necessary. I do agree that trains are preferable when available, but to a lot of small cities and Village, trains are simply NOT available!
    To understand the geography of Norway better, I recommend you take a flight on Widerøe' famous flight WF274...

    Hiya. Were travelling to Oslo Airport to the City Centre next week for a holiday. So, from what i've heard this FlytoGet train service is the cheapest and fastest way? And if we are travelling to other cities within Norway would you know of a website or app to check for fares?

    • @Trainviking
      @Trainviking  2 дня назад +1

      They flytoget is the fastest way, it's not the cheapest way, as mentioned in the video. The other trains are cheaper but less frequent (still fine). You can purchase the tickets at the station for these trains and on the Flytooget website, for all the other trains in Norway you can book the tickets at entur.no

    Nice train. I took a taxi and it took much longer than I thought. It does amaze me that people, such as you, are so immersed in carbon footprints and electrification. Me, I love fossil fuels. I always will. Nothing will change that.

  • @aselwyn1

    very much a premium price being almost double the local trains cost and not really faster either if you want it a bit quieter onboard thats about it.

    • @Trainviking
      @Trainviking  11 месяцев назад

      Agree, the local trains are by far the best option on this route.

    Yeah, just take the regional Stadler Flirt trains, they're almost as fast, with way faster acceleration, and way cheaper ticket prices, this is a stupid train.

      The only reason for me to make a video about this train is because it's "the fastest" haha. Only 10 km per hour faster though.

      The newest Flytoget trains can acutally run very fast, but are limited by the tracks (New CAF trains). The main benefit with Flytoget is that it's usally not as crowded as the regular trains and more regualr. I tend to use them when coming home from a flight, while using Vy when going to the airport.@@Trainviking
      The New CAF trains are better suited for work on the move, with a flexible zone with standing desks. But the trip so short that it's not needed that much.
      I also agree on the need to reduce flight of course. The problem is that none of our big parties dare to prioritize massive new rail infrastructure.

      @@Trainviking Oh okay cool. I don’t quite understand the example then, of the 694 trips to equate to the carbon footprint of flying. Was that just an example by distance or if the trains weren’t electric or at least ran off hydro electric? 😅 perhaps there is an aspect I had not considered or was unaware of. I apologise for the confusion I just came across your channel and have enjoyed the content. I wish there were train options everywhere especially all electric and even better if ran by renewable or at least green sources. But i have a fascination with how electric trains are not all the different in theory to the electric trains I had as a kid.

      @@peteasmr2952Not all electricity comes from carbon neutral sources. The vast majority of the electricity produced in Norway comes from hydro electric power plants, but as Norway is part of a larger European power market (and network) not all power consumed there can be guaranteed to come from renewable sources.

    • @peteasmr2952
