The Nvidia 6150SE is the WORST GPU I ever tested...

- Today I am testing the Nvidia 6150SE. This is by far the worst graphics card I have ever tested or used or seen. And I've seen some bad graphics cards in the past. And today I'm going to try the game on it. Why? Because why not.
Also this graphics card was released in 2004. Making it older than I am. Which is definitely something.
I guess I can't really call it a graphics card, it's more of a graphics chip. As it is on the motherboard, not a physical card like a RTX 4090.
The whole specs list of this computer is:
Case- eMachine case.
Motherboard- eMachine AM2 motherboard.
CPU- AMD Athlon 5600+
CPU Cooler- Stock.
RAM- 3 sticks, 2 GB each, A-Tech DDR2.
GPU- Nvidia 6150SE [S*!t edition?]
Boot drive- 128GB SSD.
Game drive- 2 TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD.

I used to play the Sims 4 on this """GPU""" just fine not so long ago, it was the only thing that ran at more than 30 fps in native 768p lol

It is! I am surprised about that. I thought for sure that game would launch, and run at least at 1 FPS.. Nope.
is there really a bad GPU? youre just not using what the chip is intended for maybe 2d games or DOS games? why would people expect extremely low end chips to run modern games i dont understand that. Good video i subbed
Its a really Bad gpu..... under win10. Under win8.1 or win7 200% faster.
This was a bad gpu. I had this thing as a kid and the only games you could play on it were cs 1.6 rip offs.
@@crazyjak56 I played 2005 high graphics fps games on it. With 100+ fps.
on linux you can play a lot of games with that gpu, including minecraft, i've only tested 1.8 since the ogl version it uses is very old
how do you update the drivers for that gpu in linux? i couldn't :(
6150se is pretty good, 1080p video encoder, You can play a dmc 4 in 640x480 without problem and Elsword, counter strike 1.6, oddworld, n64 games, NeoGeo and more games from 2000-2008
Yes, I can do that. But nothing modern. Or even remotely modern. Also are you sure it can encode 1080p? I asked as on my AMD Athlon le1640 it cannot go higher than 480p youtube without lagging. But when I put in my Nvidia RTX 3060 or Nvidia GTX 750 Ti it is able to play 1080p RUclips Just fine. To be fair it is pretty CPU limited with the igpu. But the thing is the CPU usage is way lower when my graphics card card is in.

@@digitaljon1109You used a Bad Windows version for this card. 6150se loose 50% performance under win10, and running on full performance under win8.1, win7. So double your fps, which u see under win10, Its the 6150se real performance.

@@toopolitical6086 Hmmm.. I would take a look at a AMD R5 430, or a Nvidia Quadro 600. Both aren't fast, but a ton better than what you have right now.

Hello, I'm still using an Nvidia 6150SE (Overclock 600Mhz), to take advantage of its performance I use an AMD Phenom II X4 925 CPU, it works great for web browsing and current Unity graphics engine games. How did you manage to run modern Windows 10? The GPU is compatible up to Windows 10 1703, because if I update it it starts running slow and some game windows become transparent. I recommend using Minecraft version 13.0.0, it is the last version that was compatible with the video card, it runs 46-60fps. If you can run current games like Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Steam (2023) 32-48fps, but at a resolution of 512x288, the same with Honkai Impact 3rd 48-60fps.
Wow! That is very impressive! With Windows, I simply just put my modern SSD in that computer, installed the drivers, and it worked.
In the windows settings, search for "Transparency effects", and turn it off. I have noticed with 1 old IGPU I have, when that effect is turned on, it bugs out like you mentioned, but with it off, it works good. Well, it still sucks, but visually it's alright at least.
Use win8.1 for this igpu. WINDOWS 10 KILL 50% of this igpu performance. Under win8.1 6150se double faster. I used, and tested.
The reason why you weren't able to even launch Minecraft's newer versions, and Beta 1.0 was just white screen was that you installed the wrong driver. The correct driver is in "Legacy" category, not "GeForce" (You can find the driver by searching "nForce Driver Version 15.49"). I don't know if it's compatible with Windows 10, but it supports up to Windows 7 64 bit. Also, the performance will be much better with the correct driver, of course.
With the correct driver installed, you can play Minecraft up to version 1.16.5 (1.17 and above requires OpenGL 3.1+, which is not supported by the iGPU. It supports OpenGL 2.0 fully, and 2.1 partially, according to TechPowerUp).
I will have to try that someday but I probably will forget. Sorry for the late response by the way. Overall though that is actually pretty awesome. But at the same time why is some drivers not even any good? What is that not good driver for?
@@digitaljon1109 If you download drivers from the manufacturer's official website, you should be fine. I recommend you to not use automatic driver installer softwares, as they might download a driver from an unofficial/unknown source, which means the driver might contain a virus, be corrupted, be modified, not compatible, etc. (I mean, there might be some good ones, but I don't like to rely on them 100%).
Unfortunately, though, some old hardwares' drivers cannot be found on the official website. When that happens, you can try to find the driver by searching the archives (using Wayback Machine, Internet Archive or something like that). If you don't find it from the archives, then you might end up risking it and download it from an unofficial source.

Just to mention, the latest driver is the Windows 8 beta driver. That driver works on Windows 10 up to about 1703, where it starts to blue screen the computer.

As someone who actually has one of these(latinoamérica check), it's criminal not to mention that you can actually run minecraft 1.3.2, I have mine set up with 256mb vram and bankflipping set on the bios.
Also, cube engine games run fine. I'm using ddr2 800, although my motherboard can take 1066 mhz ram too.
I didn't try all of the versions of minecraft. But it is still not really something I can recommend at all. I'm sure there are quite a lot of old games that will run. But nothing even remotely modern sadly. How's your day going by the way?

Minecraft might not run either because of the launcher or because of Windows 10 because I remember I played Java 1.4 through to 1.8 on this GPU on Windows 7 lmao (it was rough)
and now my gt 1030 seems like a rtx 4090 at 360p
I still use this igpu today on a "Kronnus M26GT4-D3" motherboard, curiously I got slightly nicer results, I can play mafia at 1366×768 at 55 fps on low graphics, Brawhalla can't measure the fps but it ran smooth, the fact that it didn't work on yours was its anti-cheating blocking startup, the games "no more room in hell" and "life is strange", it is even playable at 22 fps but with many drops, all games in the franchise " Kingdom" also had a good performance, I didn't have the courage to test very heavy games due to the fact that CS:GO does not open and crashes on my machine, I can watch 1080/60 videos smoothly, because it requires more processing and no GPU , I achieved all these feats using an athlon ii x2 240 2.8ghz oc 3.4ghz and the card couldn't take more than that, it didn't exceed 52⁰C = 125.6 °F which impressed me a lot, I also did an oc on the clock GPU 425 to 525mhz, but what caught my attention the most was the card being ddr3, I'm using a m stick (4gb 1333mhz) limited by the manufacturer, but not limited to forcing 8gb ram, good if it weren't for its limitation of graphic resources and drivers it would even be more worth it, but like others this card is doomed by time and its tragic launch.

That is neat that it works better on yours! I heard maybe if I used "compatibility mode" and set it to "Windows 7", it might have worked better. I am unsure about that though.
Have you ever thought of upgrading the IGPU, to something like a Nvidia Quadro 600, or a Radeon R5 430? As they are very cheap, and are a lot faster.
@@digitaljon1109 my brother's pc has this igpu. the pc in question is an eMachines EL1358 SFF. I put in a Quadro K600 because without an actual graphics card, the pc didn't run any games at all(not even Roblox).

@@digitaljon1109 At that time I was using windows xp with directx 9 which demanded much less than the current dxs, I also had a small oc on the gpu, I remember playing call of duty 4 modern warfare in 640x480 with high textures at 30fps

I grew up with this rig, probably a different cpu. I tried so hard to get gta iv running 😂 but to be honest I miss this rig. The only time where I ran every game on the lowest resolution and lowest settings possible and I didn’t even care compared to now where if my game goes below 60fps on ultra settings I flipppp.
For me as long as the game is getting 30 frames per second I'm happy. And for some reason in Counter-Strike Global offense I am fine with less than 30 fps. Which is weird because it's a shooter game.

The very low end gpu you can test Roblox is a NVIDIA GeForce 8300 GS, HOWEVER this card performs worse than the Geforce 210 and it has 128 MB of DDR2 VRAM
I have a Nvidia 9600M, and a AMD HD 5450. The AMD HD 5450 is closer to that GeForce GT 210 though. Which I have the HD 5450.
I had this and an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ until the end of last year 💀
Dont use win10 for this gpu!

Think you forgot too change the memory speed in the bios as it's running at the lowest ddr2 speed there 533 mhz.
And as with any integrated gpu, fast ram speed helps a bit & might also be able too push a bit faster gpu overclock too there like mid 500's in core clock if you point a fan at the chipset or mount one directly on there.
Though ofc increasing it doesn't make any miracles happen the gpu overclock should help a bit at least for older titles like mafia, maybe half-life 2, f.e.a.r, doom 3, that kind of stuff.
This was basically among the first direct x 9 pci-e graphics cards & it shows heh.
I think perhaps a debloated windows 10 would help this pc a bit as well like Atlas OS im running myself on my new system with a ryzen 5 5600, 2x8 gb ram sticks at 3200 mhz & my 1660 super, which was quite the upgrade from the I5 2500k at 4.5 ghz with the 1660 super even at stock settings on the ryzen 5600.
I don't think the operating system really makes that much difference. Likely less than 5%. I suggest that for a video. I think it would be a fun little project. I'm not going to do Linux because I don't know how to do it and it's too big of a learning curve for me to bother. But I might try to compare windows 7, windows 8.1, windows 10, and windows 11. I don't really think there will be that big of a difference but it will be a fun thing to test. Like the boot times, and also some gaming benchmarks. And maybe cinebench. What do you think? Are fun video to make?
to add your point, according to the cpu-z screenshot, the memory is running in single channel. He would've gotten double the fps if ran the memory in dual channel.
Depending on the bios you can increase how much ram the GPU has access to. Mine let me set it to 256mb.

my dads old hp had an athlon 4200+ and the 6150 se on the motherboard, it was garbage when it worked but i stripped it all out and now it has a r5 3600 and rx580 lol

I use to play minecraft beta 1.7 with a AMD Sempron 1 core CPU and this IGPU, I got 20fps back in 2011 on my families computer, Don't know how, but I did.
That is pretty impressive FPS for that, but then again, it's a very old version of the game.
When I started playing Minecraft, I was afraid of playing on any mode besides "Peaceful", the reason why is, the Intel Celeron N2815 could only get 7 FPS on average, and any mob, even a normal zombie, I would die to.
For context, even though that is a somewhat modern Celeron with 2 cores, released in 2013. 10 Years old. It is somehow slower than a single core Intel Pentium 4 641, released back in 2006.
In Cinebench R23, the Celeron gets 360 points on the multi core test. The Pentium 4 from 2006, with 1 core, gets 457 points. So, it's more than a little faster.
@@digitaljon1109 Yeah no, it is a VERY old version, it surprises me more since both parts released in 2006, but to be fair I was playing at 1024x768 at the lowest settings with chunks set to 5 lmfaooo.
But with your experience, that's honestly extremely surprising, you'd think with the huge architecture change and what not, it would be faster, plus 2 physical cores vs the Pentium 4 with 1 and hyperthreading. I assume it's just the clock speed difference where the Pentium would hit 3.2ghz and the celeron 2.13ghz. That's my guess. I wonder what settings you were using at the time as well?
