Dude it's crazy how meat-centric some people are! I'm not vegetarian or vegan or anything like that, but I had kind of a lightbulb moment when a youtuber made a vegetable soup using ONLY vegetables, and said not every meal needs meat! So true!
This is literally the second video I've watched on this so I have no idea, but it's possible he was just raised in a non-western house hold- I had a Chinese boyfriend and while I'm not strictly vegan it was nice to be able to eat dinner with someone who was cool with making dinner that was mostly starch/veggies/beans sometimes rather than everything be so meat centric. Sometimes he would make something that was just 'accidently' vegan.
I firsrt read this as im plant based and after reading it a good four times realizes you were actually not saying you are like a human tree

I actually do just this! When I saw that Blue Apron posts their recipes, I just bought all my own groceries and followed along. A lot of specialty ingredients you can google alternatives to it that are much easier for ppl to get at normal grocery stores (I’m a bit blessed with a local competitor to Whole Foods who focuses on local small business and a lot of ethnic supermarkets). For fregola, I just used orzo actually bc they’re both made of semolina and small. I also choose substitutes for certain fish if their choice is too expensive. I think there’s just more freedom to tweak recipes to what you like just buying it yourself. If people don’t like kale, I definitely don’t recommend subscribing bc they are partnered with a supplier that like only gives them kale.
All their spice mixes, you can make yourself. I just do equal parts of each that are listed in each mix and it hasn’t been bad. (Obviously this method is best for it you aren’t going for recipes with really culture specific spices that you know you’ll never use again. I just pick recipes I know I have spices for or I can buy but will use again)
Their recipes are really simple and obtainable if you’re smart and know how to use google...you really don’t need to subscribe if you are capable of grocery shopping once a week.
I get their subscription once every year and use the recipe with groceries I buy every week after that. There are some merit in developing those recipes so I still would pay them something for it. I don't really like their business model, too much plastic packaging. I feel like I'm in japan all over again looking at bananas packed in plastic

The plastic bottle of ketchup sold in a plastic bag just so that the consumer doesn't have to peel off a label before throwing it in the recycling... All the things sold in shrink wrap plastic so you know it's unopened, even though the cap has a pull ring seal or one of those plastic stickers over the opening when you unscrew the cap on a new bottle...

I’m glad about what you said at the end. I bought a meal kit box about four times (not blue apron) and it got me into cooking. 18 months ago I didn’t care about food, now I love cooking so much. I’d say that meal kits are great for people just starting out who don’t know how to cook because they really do hold your hand and make it easy (and therefore fun). But yeah, definitely a waste of money over time. I’m glad the service I used allowed you to order boxes on demand rather than having to subscribe for certain periods of time. Once you’ve got the confidence and a few recipes under your belt, you don’t need them.
I think the important part is to get younglings like us to cook, I don't think you're supposed to subscribe to this service longer than couple months until you have the confidence to walk to a super market and have human contact
A. That's a really bad business model to only have a customer for a couple of months. It costs way more to find new customers than to retain current ones B. If you younglings are too scared to go the super market and use the self- check out lane, then go to therapy like the rest of us. C. There are literally billions of people around the world who learn to cook by trial and error and on their own. D. I hope your comment was sarcasm.
@@crys313 These services count on you using the service multiple times, but cancelling between them. If you go through a rough period at work where you arent getting enough time to go to the shops, hello fresh or blue apron can be a good way to get good food without getting takeout. Then when work dies down, you unsubscribe.
I know people who use these services for times when they cant leave the house, or are in physical pain. Its paying for convienience, sure, but sometimes convienience is worth paying for

Hmm, i dont know, I believe there is a convenience to having a portioned ingredients instead of buying a whole lotta shit from the grocery store that will end up going bad.
Thats literally what they want you to think. Often times you can substitute things in their recipes with stuff you already have. I've really only ever needed to buy the meat or veg it called for and never ended up with food waste.

BOOM! recipe online for the freezies and made it even cheaper by making my own flat bread instead of buying the prepackaged ones. 🤑🤑 And it was hella good so... We do Hello Fresh in my household, and honestly, I KNOW I could just go to the grocery store and buy these things but.... I work full time, and big grocery trips stress me out. It's nice to just once a week pick out 4 things that sound good and not have to worry about it. It's made making dinner a lot more enjoyable. I think if you have the bandwidth to commit the extra time and energy into planning your meals every week and grocery shopping for all that, that's great! I'm gonna keep doing Hello Fresh because it's easy and its one less thing to think about after work. But yeah, thank you for letting everyone know that you CAN totally just steal their recipes if that's all you want from the service!
