I took 8 oxy 30 mg everyday for 7 years and started cutting 1 pill from my daily every month and walked off easy from that method it took 8 months but it took 7 years to form that habit so i look at it like 8 months is not bad at all. Godspeed to whoever is coming off these cause they are so addicting but if u want to come off u can but you have to want to thats the KEY

1 pill? Idk man.... I'm not trying to call ir bluff.... I don't know how you metabolize or your life style.... but for me, My OPINION.... that seems a bit ridiculous, and over doing it.... cutting maybe 1/4 of a pil into 4 pieces.... and cutting 1 of those pieces out, and taking the rest, and each week, take ONE of those pieces out, and obviously use those pieces towards the end, thats how you do it... you don't just stop one whole pill. Ive done this from 2008-2018. I've lost my children, my soul mate from MIDDLE SCHOOL, and my business..... and to this day it's severely mentally destroyed me, but atkeast I'm on methadone and can go thru my days without feeling like I'm dying.... or destroying my life or others around me. I still miss my kids so much....

I’m so frikkin’ happy I found this video. I’d been clean of opiates for eight years but recently fell off the wagon. I have joined Narcotics Anonymous and went head long into detoxing thinking I could get the junk out of my system in a week. BIG MISTAKE! I’ve now increased my dose, not to anything like what I was using before but enough to stop the crushing mental and physical torture. I’m now going to drop down very slowly, I’ve drawn up a calendar and should be clean in about eight weeks. Thank you so much for this.

  • @karikrome
    @karikrome 6 лет назад +106

For long term chronic opioid use, every four days drop your dose. But only drop a small amount. Use a pill cutter and shave off about 1/8th of the pill. If the drop is too steep, just keep taking the same dose until you feel no withdrawl. Then drop a bit more. If you keep doing this slowly and steadily you can get through this. Make a schedule, stick to it, and get support. Eat well, and when things get too rough, comfort meds such as clonidine, and a muscle relaxer will help you greatly. Loperamide for dhirrhea, and magnesium as well. Valium or Xanax can help but do not take longer than 5 days, save till you really need it. Hot baths, stay hydrated. It can be done, and half the battle is in your mind. If you remember: this is a bad case of the flu with a mental craving, what you tell yourself during this process is crucial. Good luck everyone, blessings to you all and get a support group to help to you.

I need opiates for Chronic Pain. But if they decide I need to come off them, I have no say. I have a life with opiates, without them am bed bound, unable to function. There are no safe substitutes for opiates, suboxone is destroying teeth enamel and a court case is looming. Tylenol, ibuprofen do nothing. Before surgery, I tapered myself down, but without telling my doctor so I did it very, very slowly and successfully. But the pain returned, and I needed opiates again. I am not an addict, I get no high. But I am terrified of doctors controlling my use of these life savers.

Stepping down hasn't worked for me. I couldn't stop taking enough to get high.
I switched to soboxen and was able to step that down because it doesn't get me high.
Now I'm off that, and still suffer mild withdrawal. A walk in the park compared to what I've suffered in the past.
    I'm going to make it!
What finally got me on track was the advice to keep trying. Even if you fall down (and I have a few times) because each attempt strengthens your resolve to quit.

But yeah, after you've decreased to a certain point, IF you aren't really ready to quit, and IF you do relapse, then it's always good to be careful!!!
The majority of ODs happen to people who gave gone without for a few days or weeks and they relapse.

Important: using a pill cutter, even on a “scored” pill does Not guarantee that the medication is evenly dispersed by half. It is possible that one of the halves has 1/4 of medicine & the other half has 3/4. The Only way you KNOW what you are getting is to have the formulation of the dose you want, in a single pill. Pills manufacturers do not guarantee that half a pill contains half the medication. Manufacturers only guarantee that a single pill contains the amount of medication it was made to contain.
Please- do not try to taper off by cutting pills: instead get reduced dosage pills in the amount you are using to taper. Example: you taper from 1mg x 4/day to begin, get prescriptions for .25mg & .5mg. Begin tapering by taking ( 1 x.5 + 1 x .25) four times a day. ALL those tapering any med, i wish you ALL the Best.

      Unfortunately that's untrue.
The fastest opioid to withdraw from is either prescription pills or Heroin.
Either one of those will take 7- 21 days on average. Longer for some but only very rarely less than that.
(***Neither one of those are really available anymore. Fentanyl has replaced H on the street and docs have forced millions of patients to seek illegal stuff too. )
Fentanyl takes 2 to 3 wks.
      Subutex/Suboxone takes 21-35days or more.
Methadone can take anywhere from 6 wks to 18 months.
And then you have to remember that everyone is different.
It took me 5 months to be able to sleep more than a few minutes here and there... to stop kicking my legs constantly... to stop vomiting and diarrhea. To stop sweating, freezing, and aching...
And that was just Oxycontin back in 2007-2008.
      And then again in 2011.
I've come off everything at least once and I assure you that NEVER ONCE was I "over withdrawals" in 7 days.

I feel like you are experiencing some akathisia. That restlessness & agitation you feel coming off any drug with an associated “withdrawal” or “discontinuation syndrome” is called “withdrawal akathisia”. No one tells you that is a sign of neurotoxicity occurring or having already occurred. I was injured by Methadone and later stopping Klonopin. Find Jill Nickens at the Akathisia Alliance for Better Education and hear about the chronic akathisia she got stopping the opiates Methadone and later Buprenorphine. Jill is still injured 15 years later. Many people carry a lower level of akathisia and mistake it for “anxiety”. Antidepressant injury and antidepressant tapering injuries are and even bigger offender of akathisia. The best thing is to slowly taper all akathisia causing meds. Understand opiates both mask and aggravate akathisia. Find Dr. Russell Copeland’s article Naloxone Rebound Akathisia: It could turn on you, to understand a little about opiate withdrawal akathisia. It turns out Narcan is inducing opiate withdrawal akathisia at light speed and neurologically injuring patients in efforts to save them. If you are still feeling sick on Buprenorphine, I am willing to bet the cold switch injured you.

Try only to take it for about a week or 2 at most, as this med can create some dependency. Of course ask your doctor first. I would say start at 400 mg and see how that much helps. The most important thing overall on this kind effort from the person or person s devoted time to help US all of making the videos is just that, sharing resources of manner. All our experience of the issue is very very helpful, not everyone have a singular minded reason of choice of similarities of choice as prescribed medicine. I like many here do have disabilities of extreme conditions of having cheaper sources within high quantities of dosing. So I see a lot here with a strong will to do the best knowing the discomfort of most disabilities can be tolerated when health of the mind. body. seems more important to our attention, that alone has helped out so much from a lot here for US all from the SSIDisibilty sector, it jus giving more to add on for myself but overall the subject of our symptoms is very complex so , yeah its a great source here for help.

I use 2 pills in the morning, 3 in the afternoon, and then 2 again at night. Dosing every 8 hours. Again; is this a strong dose? I heard levorphanol is 11 times stronger then morphine. Is that correct? I wonder if Kratom would be a good alternative?

Can I use Methadone in conjunction with opioids using this method? I am talking about a "lower" level of addiction to opioids (60mg daily) and want to use 5 - 10mg of Methadone daily in conjunction with 20mg opioids in order to speed the reduction of my reliance on Opioids. The goal will be to be off opioids in 3 weeks and off both within 5 weeks. Bottom line question -- can I use Methadone in conjunction with opioids (within these levels) safely? Starting point 20mg opioids, 10 mg Methadone.

You know, the step down technique is very hard. Unless you are so committed and can take a long time. Most of us don't have time like that because we have used to oblivion and have nothing. The great fact is, and I stress this.... YOU WILL GO THROUGH PAIN NO MATTER WHAT. Maybe you can ease withdrawal drugs and time but the pain is something that people who plan on quitting have to come to terms with. And it sucks. But that's the way it is. And in 20 years on heroin I don't think i have ever had a painless withdrawal. And unless you're rich and can go get a rapid detox where you're passed out the whole time, you goin through some pain like the rest of us poor people. Anyway I hate to say it, but none of us addicts are this discipline. Otherwise you would see a lot more people trying this method.

You'd be surprised how many of us have used the step down method.
It works best for those of us who never used to "get high".
We always used JUST to feel "nornal".
Even from the beginning we were able to do very, very little and stretch it out so we could function.
But I've met plenty of addicts like you too! I'm sorry you don't feel like the step down will work for you

this is a great way to do it if you are in an ideal situation but not many people are gonna be able to do this. unless you have a very good and understanding doctor or you got plenty of money and access to oxycodone this is going to be impossible, plus this would take extreme willpower and the nature of these drugs do not induce willpower so this seems unrealistic to me. it would work if you have a doctor prescribing this to you and reducing your dose weekly, they would also have to be very disciplined and as I said opiates do not promote self-discipline. everyone is looking for an easy out but the best way is cold turkey. if you can get through the first 3 to 4 days without anything then you only have the psychological aspect left to deal with which if you ask any recovered addict they will tell you that is the hardest part.
