    I am happy to see my Betta roaming around in my ten gallon tank after seeing this...
    I wouldn’t say that tank is complete useless, it can be use for keeping the fish for couple of days like a temporary shelter when the main tank needs maintenance, but not for long term purpose.

If I’m being honest, any pet store employee can tell you about pets, but I think the ones with personal experience should be the only ones you listen to. It’s a shame so many uneducated people work in departments that deal with living things.

    • @shreyasi5263
      @shreyasi5263 2 года назад +1

      20g for one beta is too much I have my betta with 4 guppy for 2 years yet none of them died or chase each other/fight. Having a tank 10x bigger than fish doesn’t means ‘better care’ nor having a tank just a bit bigger than the fish is

    • @ylvavarynkottir2265
      @ylvavarynkottir2265 2 года назад +1

      @@shreyasi5263 friend, having a bigger tank has a direct correlation with longevity for Betta fish. A betta in a 1 gallon tank objectively has a lower quality of life than one in a 10 gallon. Also, 20 gallons is absolutely not "too much" for a Betta. Unless the fish is showing signs of stress, there is no such thing as "too much" space. The minimum tank size for a Betta is 5 gallons.
      Also, 2 years? Seriously? Bettas usually live for 5 years, but can even go for up to 7. Nobody is impressed that you did the bare minimum.
      You also never said your tank size, but with 4 guppies and a Betta, it should be 10 gallons at the very least. Even then, that's pushing it. Ideally it should be 20 gallons.
      You can love your fish to the moon and back, but that means nothing if it's improperly cared for. A Betta stuck in a shitty 2.5 gallon tank doesn't want your love, it wants a bigger tank.

    • @PatrickBateman88
      @PatrickBateman88 2 года назад +1

      I have a 3 gallon for 1 betta

    • @ylvavarynkottir2265
      @ylvavarynkottir2265 2 года назад +1

      @@PatrickBateman88 good on you! 2.5 is the minimum for a single Betta (although many sources have changed this to 5 gallons), so 3 isn't ideal but def works. Honestly, I think a 5 gallon would work better (in terms of still being cheap and having adequate space).
      The big thing is checking your Betta for signs of stress:
      - "pacing" along the sides of the tank in a repetitive fashion
      - tears in finnage
      - dulled colors
      Also with smaller tanks, you gotta check water parameters more often. By water parameters, I mean ammonia + nitrite + nitrate levels in the water (you can find test kits on Amazon and in any pet store; I recommend API brand). These can build up super fast in smaller tanks and, if too high, will result in death via chemical burns.
      All in all, I'd say do your research. Nobody who keeps fish starts out knowing everything and preventable deaths happen. A great resource is r/bettafish (which is a subreddit). Very experienced people and happy to give advice! Keep up the good work!
      Hope you and your fish are doing well!
      Edit: oh also make sure you have a heater. Bettas are very temp sensitive and absolutely need a temp range from 76-80 (ideally 78-80).
      Filters are a must, but Bettas like weak flow. A filter that's too powerful can cause them to stress out and nip their fins off.

    (Need 10gal at least for those 3 maybe 20 idk)
    I didn’t see a filter but idk
    Also they need a certain temp and PH
    Needs softer decor because betta fishes are pretty delicate

    You could name the golden turtle "Torture" which is exactly what you are doing to those poor bettas you are going to buy!
    Yes, bettas can live in small containers for several years, but they wont live a happy and healthy live. Imagine yourself living in a closet for your entire life. Yes, you probably wouldn't die, but your quality of living would be so poor you wish you were dead. I know you care about those betta fish otherwise you wouldn't have bought an expensive tank like the one you did in the video. Please consider returning that tank and getting a simple 10 gallon tank for $10 dollars at Petco and buying little dividers so the fish wont harm each other. I recommend getting ones from this website: www.lifewithpetsgci.com/store/p3/10_Gallon_Tank_Dividers.html
    That would bring your total to about $30 but with much happier fish!
    You could even buy an additional sponge filter and heater which would be about $20 and then you would have those fish in little paradises.
    Thank you for reading and please try to give those fish the best life possible :)

    Think bettas are beautiful fish? Want to get one as a pet? ALWAYS do your own research first. Google appropriate housing, care, and feeding for ethical animal treatment. Give your pet the best care you can give it, and don't lie to yourself if you are unable to provide adequate care.
    0:52 "I already know I'm getting comments that these are too small, but right there it says it's not too small. So I'm gonna go with PetSmart, and PetCo, and any pet stores' rules and get this sucker for the betta fish."
    I just have to point out that you know better, but you chose to go for an inadequate tank for your own convenience while ignoring the bettas' well-being.
    Relying on the advice of a chain pet store like PetSmart or PetCo is unwise, mainly because they just want to make money. Just because a pet store sells it doesn't mean it's ok. They sell sand for reptile terrariums, which can cause impaction in smaller reptiles. They sell goldfish as feeders for Oscars, for example, when goldfishes are high in fat (leading to fatty liver disease) and thiaminase (which destroys Vitamin B1, causing vitamin deficiencies in your fish). Pet store products (or any stores' products) don't pass an ethics test before getting put on the shelf. Just because someone is selling you something, does not mean that they want the best for you. They want your money.
    This tank has a lot of problems, mainly:
    - Water volume too small. The minimum size to maintain good water quality and swimming space is 2.5 for one fish. Most people wouldn't recomment below 5 gallons for a single betta. This set up grants each fish a meager 0.7 gallons.
    - Stress from multiple bettas. The connecting walls between each compartment is clear, so that the fish will be able to see each other at all times. This can contribute to stress from over-flaring, shred fins, or fin-biting behavior (where a fish bites its own fins out of stress and frustration).
    - Shared water. Given the above stress factors, it's highly likely that the fish will develop diseases or contract infections/parasites. Additionally, given that the fish share water, if one fish gets sick, they all get sick.
    PLEASE LEARN ABOUT A PET BEFORE YOU GET IT, RESEARCH ITS NEEDS, AND DO THE BEST YOU CAN!

      The worst part is that he's willfully ignorant. It would be less jarring if he got all this stuff, later learned his Bettas had less than ideal living conditions, and improved their setup. But we know that's not the case. He knows it's wrong but he goes, "Meh, whatever."

It’s really important that you do your own research on this stuff from multiple websites. People watch this who aren’t very well educated on fish which is totally fine but a lot of times they watch to become more educated so in order for people to start taking better care of their fish you need to take the extra step to know what you’re doing. Hope you take these comments into consideration and make a change otherwise you seem like a cool dude.

    dude.. even though this was from two years ago, I still find this agonizing to watch. I agree with most everyone in this comment section; do your research on PROPER betta fish care before going out and impulse buying a tank like that simply to have more fish. Bettas are such beautiful creatures and they're marketed in an entirely contrary way to what they actually deserve, and this video is proof of that. I learned the hard way after keeping two bettas prior to my third and fourth betta currently that bettas deserve 2.5 gallons at MINIMUM. The tank, decor, and everything about this setup is not suitible for one, not even three betta (the setup for the seperate filtered 1.5 gallon was not suitible either). The takeaway for anyone watching this video should be to do your research on your potential pet//aquarium fish//setup, etc.. before going out and buying what is marketed as 'ideal' for any fish, including betta. fish deserve loving homes too, and you can easily give it to them with the right amount of research and sense to know and care enough to provide them with what they need to live an excellent life.

      Breeding has different rules since bettas have so many fry, it's hard to find space for them all. When just keeping bettas as pets, you probably shouldn't use dividers. There's a reason why most bettas in divided tanks hang around the dividers, it's because they can smell the other fish in the tank.

      Zerroa Bear With the size thing they don't need a large tank they can live in really small areas. My pet store sells them in wine glasses and they are fine... • @tomtomtomtomtomtomtom
      @tomtomtomtomtomtomtom 6 лет назад +1

      Just because of Jordyn Personally I'd never keep a betta in less than a ten gallon. 1) Bettas are very prone to diseases, and it's easier to keep those diseases in check with a bigger tank because water parameters are easy to check and adjust. 2) They lived mostly in rice patties in the wild, not "mud pockets". These are very shallow but can stretch for miles and miles. Besides, this point is mostly null since wild bettas and domestic "show" bettas are almost nothing alike. 3) Bettas have really big fins from years of breeding them to be like that. It's hard for them to move in smaller spaces and this can cause any number of deformities with their fins.
      These are all just things to think about :)
