Mines fine. Been growing 6 years now. Was a bit of rot initially but it grew back just fine. :)
@@Catglittercrafts you shouldn't bury it, but you could put the rhizome (which is where the leaves come from) on top of the substrate, but never covered by substrate.
Mine are also buried and its growing amazingly for the past 3 years :)
And on top of that there's no nutrition layer in the substrate

The Tank is beautiful but needs filtration or at least an air stone to keep the water moving + too small for a betta and a pleco! I wouldn't add anything with a betta in less than 5 gallon.
Do you think the tank shape is an issue because oxygen cant flow well because its round? Or is it perfectly fine (as in shape) because it doesnt have a top?
@@amantinamunoz2043 small bowls aren’t good but if it was a BIG BOWL (3-5gallon) then thats ok.. and if u dont want to add filter then lots of plants are the key (fast growing plants + floating plants) to help absorbing ammonia, nitrite and nitrate and oxygynate the tank. Plus a heater should be placed which is hard to find for bowl. Betta fish can be kept in heavenly planted tank if there is no filter because they can breathe of the air but some other fish cant so they need filter or air stone in planted tank to give oxygen. Hope this helps.
@@MrsBaRCa the problem with fast growing plants tho is that they die fast to, the reason i dont like bowls is bc they are inconvenient (as in shape) bc its hard to find filters and stuff that can fit them .-.
@@amantinamunoz2043 Totally agree.. fast growing can be very beneficial specially if you want to add the fish right away, give the beneficial bacteria time to grow.

5 gallon is a good tank size for a beta but the 3 gallon will do ok, your gonna want a nutrient substrate maybe try Seachem Flourish, and I would try an otocinlus catfish instead of the pleco if you have to have a sucker in there, the tank looks awesome

He could be dosing with CO2 or some other plant nutrients. To my knowledge you don’t always need substrate.
@@jesset3832 No Amazon swords are heavy root feeders they can’t rely on Co2 and he put no root tabs, even with root tabs that substrate is only like 1 inch their roots can go up to 5 to 6 inches or more

Agree, 90% of these plants and the fish are going to die. I think the pleco will kill the betta, as the tank is too small and theres no algae so the pleco will suck onto the betta who doesn't move a lot at night and injure it and stress it and the ammonia will eventually kill them both because theres too little water and nutrients those plants will die before they can work.

Justbas a FYI, the fern is a epyphite plant. It gets nutrients from the water column. You need to remove the fern from the sand because the rhizome needs to not be dug into the sand. It will die. By putting the rhizome in the sad, it will essentially "suffocate" and die.
Swords are also heave root feeders so i would recommend a couple root tabs.

Another problem is thats the tank has no nutrients besides what is created from the fish to the plants probably won't survive long term

Please upgrade it to a 5 gallon for the betta. A pleco cant fit in there as well. For the fish to live happy please make it a 5 gallon. That pleco isn't a grownup

Betta and pleco’s gonna jump out, pleco’s gonna poop and poison the tank with ammonia. Didn’t even put in any nitrifying bacteria? C’mon Paul, you can do much better for your fishies!

Like he didn't even cycle the water, properly plant some of the plants, and don't plecos grow pretty big and are they even suitable tank mates for a Betta?

Aquarium Co-op nano sponge filter, no clog air stone and nano usb air pump=crystal clear water plus aeration for the fish. Live plants will work for great eco system setup but that platinum betta deserves crystal clear water! Great choice.
The ammonia in that tank will be off the charts. Beautiful fish too it’s a shame

@@Catglittercrafts you could add double the amount of what’s in there and it still wouldn’t help. That thing is less than 5 gallons the bio load is way too much for that uncycled and unfiltered thing. Ammonia will probably end up killing those beautiful fish

Just get a piece of driftwood and tie the Java fern and Anubias to it with fishing line! Probably no need for a heater in Florida but could use a little sponge filter. Also would be cool to have some pothos growing out the top and that will help filter out some of the nitrates. Without some surface agitation though, you will probably have a pretty thick protein film buildup with that pleco.
that pleco will outgrow that tank in no time. also that java fern shouldn't be in substrate, you should tuck it in the gaps of the driftwood and the plant you tucked in driftwood should be on substrate. Edit: your sponsored by API you should have shown putting quickstart and chlorine remover before putting in those fish

Not necessarily. If you saw at greenaqua sometimes they dont put soil and just add root tabs before putting in sand. Those plants would be deprived of light though by the duckweed.
ikr. mans needs to learn how to keep fish before putting his trash tanks on yt and mis leading new fish keepers and cousing them to quit bcs they r doing this wrong and learning from the wrong person.

Here’s some facts u need to do
1: let the tank cycle for ATLEAST a week
2:u need to let the bag set for a hour in the tank
3: u need atleast a 5 gallon tank for a beta
And you need at least 20g for any plecos that are small

@@michaelrasmussen9630 Thas has got nothing to do with it... Anubias and Java Fern are not supposed to be put in any substrate. You should attach them to hardscape but the roots (or rhizomes) should not be covered

Make sure your mom knows to remove the some duckweed once it covers the entire tank, it will do that in like a week
Some of those plants need a nutrient based substrate for plants, smh. Also allot of those plants are gonna grow too big for that small tank. Another no no is you're putting fish in a tank that hasn't been properly cycled, smh.

@@kingGaming-ml3cn you don't need to have a filter to grow beneficial bacteria. Beneficial bacteria grows on everything within the tank, substrate, plants, wood etc.

@zenaqua please get this following message/info to Paul regarding the tank it's IMPORTANT!! PLEASE READ!! First off my daughter (8) and I absolutely adore you!! We were lucky to meet you a CPL years back n CA at the Halloween event at Prehistoric Pets with Blake. My daughter has several of your merch items and signed Pokemon cards and her favorite possessions she has is the pictures with you from the event. So please know I say this with LOVE... Get that Pleco out of that tank asap!! For a couple reasons...1. the bio load it will produce in that tank without a true filter will harm the Betta faster than you could blink. There's no amount of plants that would keep up to keep the water clean enough to be healthy. They are AMAZING FISH but POOP machines!! And even with the daily water changes it will be near impossible without stressing both fish and the plants out from so much. 2. My daughter has 2 baby long fin Bristlenose the same size as the one you got and we thought it would be fine to put them in with her Betta in a 20g to grow out... I even added extra filtration(2 sponge filter and a hang in back) and plants to keep up with the bio load. But that's not even the biggest issue. He (Betta) went from 100% beautiful and perfectly healthy to clinging for his life in 2 days. While Bettas bed down for the night plecos are nocturnal and our scavenging all night long. While doing so they tried to make a meal out of him. The first day and night all was fine but after the 2nd night I woke up to a complete horror. He was floating lifeless, missing both dorsal and anal fins that were completely gnawed off 3/4 of his tail gone and 1 pectoral fin gone down to the nub, slime coat sucked off in several places, a missing one eye... And the worst part is he was still alive!! Alive while it happened and alive in absolute pain I'm sure. I obviously removed him immediately and for the last 2 weeks have been treating him heavily everyday!! He is still alive and healing very slowly but I feel absolutely horrible!!! I would hate for the same to happen to your mom's Betta as well.... I really hope you actually see this and remove it before anything does happen. I thought it would have been fine as well but come to find out it's a pretty common thing to happen with baby plecos and betta's. Your moms tank turned out absolutely beautiful and the Betta will be very happy in it.... Alone!!! Please, please, please remove that Pleco immediately!!! important!!!
Paul first of all a pleco is an absolutely mistake for that small tank plecos get huge in one year it grew 1ft and 6inches I had to give it to a fish store so for a little bit it's good but you will have to move it is eventually and second yes plants are a biological filter but you still need an actual filter to help and assist those plants

He has a 9000g tank and 3 ponds chill they don’t grow in a instant

I kept a beta in a large vase with a plant for almost 2-3yrs, he was given to us already spending almost a year with them. You would trim the roots a lot, but he liked to lie on the roots. He had no heat, other then in the kitchen window, and no filtration other then water changes. They do not swim around a lot, they sell leaves for them to rest on because they lie around a lot. That was the way you did it back then. The plant would put o2 in the water, but betas breathe through gills and can also breathe from the surface, they like to do both. Betas don’t like overly stirred water, and air stones can stress them out, so not a necessity either.
So your saying you didn’t heat a tropical fish’s tank?

Can’t help but be a tad disappointed that you don’t have filtration. Beta’s deserve filtration. Would you put one of your platinum red tails in a big pond with only plants as filtration?
PLEASE- put root tabs at least in the sand so the plants have something to grow with. Sand in inert (as you know) and plants need something alive to live in.
Anubis etc would be ok, but these guys needs nutrients!!!!! Common Paul 🤦🏻♀️

would highly reccomend a lid for that tank. bettas can be a bit jumpy, so this would be a good idea. also, bristlenose plecos for a 3 gallon might not be a good idea......., but tank looks great!

The tank looks cool, but might need a bubbler for more aeration, and will need more water changes due to the filtration options, but it does look cool
Not necessarily. If he did everything right he won’t even have to do water changes and the plants will act as the filter. betta fishes breathe on top of the surface so they don’t need any surface agitation. Idk about the pleco tho, he should just move it because the tank is too small.

I thought the beta fish need at least 25°C and a filtration and I'm not really sure if they can have another fish with them in the same tank.
Bettas need heat, and can do fine in a community tank, but there has to be enough room in the tank to handle the bio load from all the fish.
He lives in Florida so the climate is warm so no need for a heater and also if you want to put your betta in a tank with other fish (not another betta) than I recommend buying some ghost shrimp to test how aggressive your betta is if your betta is chasing the shrimp it means that your betta is aggressive and can not be kept in a tank with other fish if it doesn’t your betta is fine with other fish
@@collint5103 They have air conditioning though, to keep the tank about 80f then the room would need to be about 84f theres no way they keep their house that warm, thats unbarable heat.
They can’t be in a community tank because they are extremely territorial and are known to kill community fish..

@@paulcuffaro respect on getting some live plants, but the plants wont live long especially since they're is no filter with no beneficial bacteria. And I recommend getting some otocinclis catfish since they produce less poop than plecos. I dont want the rotting plants and the amount of pleco poop poison the betta fish yfm? Gotta get some aqua soil for the plants and I recommend a 5 gallon for the betta but respect on the plants!

@@oxdg827 true but tbh the aquarium shop I go to is an aquascape place but they have 3 gallons with guppies and they're breeding. I feel like it really just boils down to the maintenance yk? Not saying to shove a bunch of goldfish in a 3g just saying pick the right nano fish and do high maintenance

Ugh, okay, so this is so so wrong and I say it the nicest way possible. 1) Those plants need some sort of fertilizer, and no, fish poop doesn't cut it. (Get something like volcanic substrate.) 2) Java fern rhizomes cannot be buried or else the plant will rot from the bottom up. 3) Betta fish are tropical and need heaters that provide a constant temperature of 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit. 4) Can't tell if that's a dwarf pleco, but even dwarfs need an absolute minimum tank size of 10-15 gallons of water as well as a filter and wafer pellets because algae is not a constant source of food. 5) Your tank isn't cycled which can cause new tank syndrome where the nitrates suddenly spike killing all your fish. 6) Your tank is way too over stocked with that pleco who's going to cause your bioload to shoot through the roof. Replace him with some ghost shrimp instead.
Edit: Completely forgot to say this but 7) plecos have been known to eat sleeping betta fish. Separate them asap.

They had articulated fingers and could actually grab onto things. Quit dismissing someone's knowledge about something by bringing up an unrelated fact. You definitely need to add a little floating ring at the surface so that betta can surface to the water for air. Bettas need it. Also, the java ferns roots will rot and die when it’s dug into the substrate like that. Let it sit on the bottom. You should name that beautiful betta Griffin!! It looks like a male judging by the fans, and he also seems to have quite a bit of fan damage. I can’t wait to see his transformation in this amazing new tank!!💞👍
not sure about amazing... this tank does look a little nice but its not a good home for a betta at all, for starters it doesent have a heater or a filter, bettas like a higher temp of 78-82F, and without a filter the ammonia in that tank is going to be through the roof especially with the bioload of a betta and a pleco. Betta need a minimum tank of 5 gallons and this thing is not any bigger than 2. He didint cycle the tank at all or add any sort of beneficial bacteria so any of the waste that is produced by the betta and pleco will just kill the fish. Honestly ill be surprised if they last more then 2 weeks in that tank, the betta will probably jump out within a couple of days.

C’mon Paul. First of all, that tank is way too small for a betta. Bettas need at least 5 gallons or more. Secondly, there are absolutely no nutrients in the substrate for the plants to grow. Lastly, the Java fern should not be planted into the substrate. It will quickly rot the roots of the plant! That is all for now!🌝

the set up wasnt that bad! I just recommend a bigger tank 5 gal minimum. make sure the duckweed is not covering the whole top surface of the water since bettas need to take breaths from the top. make sure to not put rhizome plnats like anubias or like your java fern into the substrate since the roots could rot with the plant. This wasn't as bad but there is always room for improvement:) ALSO
for tankmates the tank should be a bit bigger or just without a tank mate at all. also get a filter and heater! bettas are tropical fish so water around 76-86 is optimal:)
