Great aquarium! just make sure to use the master test kit properly. There’s two bottles for ammonia and you only used one, which is why it didn’t show properly. Also, you can put a prefilter sponge on both the input and output of the filter to baffle the flow. Like you said, the fish were getting bullied by the filter. It will also prevent the fish’s fins or other debris from getting sucked up into the filter. If you do that be sure to add multiple air stones for surface agitation (it replaces oxygen in the tank.) You should also move the filter output to the other side of the tank. It will help distribute the heater’s heat and will create a current in the tank. For a first tank, or any tank- it’s an AMAZING aquarium. I wish I had the room for a 75 gallon. You could get a 30 gallon tank, put your current fish into that tank, then get angelfish or another big fish for the big tank. Or you could add more fish to the tank after it’s more established. Anyway, great tank, and thanks for reading this long comment!
EDIT: I also appreciate that you did a lot of research before you setup the tank. Lots of people just put bettas into bowls!
Yes
Boutta write this exactly lol 😂👍
I appreciate that person and wished that there would be way more persons like that. Congrats my man.
lmao i didn’t realize i wrote this much 😅 i was just gonna tell him about the test kit then i just kept writing
@@flaming547 I had a half moon betta and he was very chill 😂. Sadly, he had a disease and died. He might be better off now because his tail was massive and it weighed him down so much he bit parts of it off and didn’t eat. He was completely fine with other fish and very special to me. I hope he’s in a better place now. I know I sound like that vegan teacher, but always feel so bad for bettas because they are very commonly mistreated and abused and some types are bred to have big tails but those types of tails often make it difficult for them to swim.
As an aquarium hobbyist I cannot tell you how excited and happy I am that you actually did research and went the natural way (real plants, and deco). And it looks soo good 👍
Been keeping tanks for 10 years and I’m happy to see you having fun doing this, and that you did proper research!
This guy actually did the research to keep his tank at the best condition he could, congrats
Yea congrats

So I keep fish myself and here are some tips for you, Luke.
1. It's best to put the thermometer at the bottom of the tank.
2. When filling up your tank, you can use plastic wrap (by putting it in front of the siphon) to prevent the sand from shifting.
3. Also a bubbler will be significant, so your fish will get plenty of oxygen.
Hope your fishies will live a good life!
this was useful to me thanks
i have fish too😊 i dont really know much about keeping fish in a tank, cuz i keep my koi fish in a pond, but we were thinking about getting a tank for small fish thanks!👍
The oxygen exchange appears at the surface, a (bubbler) do not make a significant different and does rather work against Co2 building up and plants will then suffer, many and healthy plants equals healthy and ecosphere aquarium!
Inlet and out let of the filter need to be on the opposite side of tabk to each other other wise it won't filter all the water properly
Well, he has plants in his tank. And those will help with the oxygen. The air pump or "bubblers" won't provide oxygen to the fishes. It's the movement in water that creates tiny oxygen particles in water. Bubbles just create a movement + I can also see the water moving from his filter, so it will be fine :)
Well done man! Love to see more people getting into the aquarium hobby. Solid aquascape btw!
i have to 2 fish tanks one is a small one the other one is a 3 and a half feet i have a betta i also have an akara cichlid
I am sorry its 2 and a half feet

LETS GO LUKE!!!
As someone who owns two tanks, I do believe that bettas and guppies are a risky match as bettas can get aggressive often against coloured long finned fish. But my second tank has mixed bettas with other fish so if the tank is big enough you should be fine.
Edit: If you are going to get other fish I reccomend Cory catfish as since they are bottom dwellers they won’t interact with the bettas as much so less Vance of them fighting.
Betta from stores can be in a community tank I hope I know but it depends on the personality I have 54 tank my biggest tank is a 700 gallon
I mean red tail catfish and oscars are also a good choice
Hey luke. Just letting you know that the plants will be fine, you should also try to reduce the output of the filter until the fish dont look like they’re struggling to swim. Bettas and guppys is 50/50 as you know but endler guppys and bettas are completely fine endlers are alot smaller but they look great i had 7 with my betta and they were fine.
guppies and bettas can be a bad idea but the tank is 75 gallons so they should all be fine, more space less aggressive
wow i cant believ its already been over a year that you've moved in! I've been with you for a while Luke and every video that I walk over just gives me so much joy and entertainment and i could never find any other positive, loving, and caring youtuber than you Luke, keep the excellent work up Luke, Im so proud of you!
Luke never fails to entertain us. he's the best.
Ye
Correct
I've had fish for 7 years, and for a beginner tank you did a really good job! If your interested I have a few suggestions:
1. Quick start helps, but you should wait a few weeks still. Its mostly just a booster.
2. You can rinse the sand outside to help.
3. A UV light should help with cloudy water and algae. (Although some algae can actually be beneficial).
4. Snails are great, I would add a few besides ones you already have from the plants.
5. I like your stocking choices! With the guppies, add a 3 to 1 ratio of females if you want babies. (Currently you just have males). Of course, just males can be great too although eventually you'll have to replace them. The betta fish is SUPER risky though, especially because its a male. They are okay with some species in large tanks, but these guppies have flowy fins so watch out for nipping and remove immediately if you see that.
6. When putting fish into your tank use a net to so dirty water won't go into the tank.
7. Mollies, Platies, and Neon Tetras are also great beginner fish to add in the future.
Yay
yo do u know much abt reef tanks?
because if you do, I need help with hair algae. badly
@@TheDogWaffleHair algae? Im dont keep reef tanks but generally the best way to get rid of algae is snails, and shrimp. I heard shrimp get hair algae while snails mostly get the stuff on the glass. I know i tried snails and they cleaned a 20 gallon like it was nothing. ( only like 3 ramshorn snails)

Lukes creativity makes everyone's face smile. I love his vids so much, and whenever I am bored or sad, I watch his vids. Amazing Video, Luke. Say Hi to your fish for me :)
If you would like having more fishes, don't buy more male guppies or other sorts of fish, simply buy 10 to 12 female guppies, they will have guppy fries in a month or so. Just keep in mind, I am not forcing you to keep guppies 😂 just giving an advice. By the way that message was sent by a guppy keeper which is also an experienced fish keeper😅. By the way I forgot to tell you that if the fishes are staying at the top of the tank, that means that there is a lack of oxygen in the water. Put a bubbler in the tank. My brother is a great fan of you and loves your memes on tiktok.
Year I have about 50 guppies I started with 10 they breed quic
Great video. I found it super relatable since me myself made my first planted aquarium with stem plants recently. I recognise your struggles with planting the the roots into the soil and I admire your patience with everything. I really do envy your patience. Btw really love your tank and hope your fish do well :)
Luke, I started watching your tiktok videos around 2 years ago and then I started watching on your channel. I love your videos and I appreciate how much effort and time you probably put into it. (Also the editors, you guys probably work really hard, so thank you)
Thank you 🙏
When I saw this video I lit up with joy because I love anything to do with tank building and since Luke was doing it, it made it better since he is like my favorite youtuber and he's so funny. Plus I LOVE betta fish and I was hoping at the beginning of the video he would get one and he did!!!!😂❤
I am so happy to see a RUclipsr that is finally doing fish keeping right. I have been keeping fish for years and while he might not have explained his research the best I am just happy to see that he did any research at all. Keep up the good work Luke.

Luke was from tiktoks during Covid-19 and now he's doing something cool and good. Actually learned something from fishes from Luke!
Good job for always being kind and making great content for everybody🎉
As an aquarium hobby enthusiast, you should remove as many snails as you can. Most likley they are ramshorn snails and these snails reproduce so bad they will take over your tank within months.
Luke has such amazing content and I never get bored watching him,
Tetras are one of the most aggressive fish, guppies are normally chill and adapt fast. They get used to the nets, however tetras will run away from nets at the speed of light.
The amount of times luke got mad got me dying
Fish are so cool I have 9 fish tanks and they are so cool and fun to look after
I think we all can agree that Luke deserves to get a medal from how good his videos are! He never fails to entertain us.
Omg i love this video so much thanks for doing the research!
Its amazing you did all the research before doing it. Kudos And it looks amazing for a first time tank!
Tips: don’t use the water that comes from the fish store (could be nasty) the filter does not clean the tank itself, it provide water flow and is a housing spot for bacteria that is actually cleaning the tank. Insta start bacteria should still be given some time before you put fish in. You could put something to hinder the flow from the filter because beta fish like soft flow. Also ph is only a concern for the fish, some fish like high ph (hard water) some like low ph (soft water).
Luke is always so good with building these things, and as you see in these types of videos, hard work pays off
Keep up the hard work man:)
yes he does
it's like seeing a kid opening his christmas gift. can't contain his excitement. and kudos for the research effort. welcome to the fishkeeping club
100% luke is the best fish youtuber in America because he uses real plants rather than Fake plants, W LUKE!!!

I'm so happy u did it the right way props to you luke.
well it wasn’t right in every way
eg, skipped the cycle, probably a bad ratio of male to female guppies, too strong filter output, overfed after the fish had been there for only a few minutes and were still stressed after transit, overstocked for a new tank, no quarantine but except for those and other things it was fine
hey luke! big fan, have been watching u for ages! just wanted u to know that i hope everything is well for you and all of ur fans care for u.
Love you bro.
We would LOVE an update on the fish tank!
Yesss
hi luke i been keeping fish for a long time now and i just wana recomend you some spiecies that can work in your tank
1. shrimp they are benificial to a fish tank with your current fish and how the tank is set up i think you can have some cherry shrimp but if you are scared that they will be eaten i would recomend amino shrimp they are a little bit bigger
2. bambo shrimp with your filter they will be a good adition to a tank you will see them on loogs tryng to filter any food in the tank
3. Neon Tetras they like moving water so you can add sum i recomend 5 of them so they are happy
4. assasin snail they will eat the small baby snails those small baby snails you found are invasive they will breed and take over the whole tank they will eat all the plants
5. a mexican dwarf craw fish they are small and can work well because of the rocks
6.cory catfish are cool little fish who are gonna eat uneaten food
7. pleco plecos are a fish that grow big so i personaly only keep one
8. Kuhli loach The true Kuhli loach, occasionally referred to as eel loach, is a small eel-like freshwater fish belonging to the loach family. They originate from the island of Java in Indonesia. This snake-like creature is very slender and nocturnal
9.Bala shark The bala shark also known as the tricolor shark, tricolor sharkminnow, silver shark, or shark minnow, is a fish of the family Cyprinidae, and is one of the two species in the genus Balantiocheilos. This species is not a true shark, but is commonly so called because of its torpedo-shaped body and large fins
Tank is too small to house a school of full grown bala sharks
Luke I’ve kept guppies and I have a few tips
1 for every 1 male try to have 3 females to stop males fighting
2 for every inch of fish = gallon of water except beta wich = 10 through 20 Gallons to stop fish dying
3 to even out feeding use some tablets and flakes so every fish gets food
4 guppies breed a lot so if you want there young to survive buy some floating plants for them
5 you can tell a male from a female by how bright there colors are
If any of these help you
Love the fish ❤
I missed one plecos are a great way to clean out your water because the filter won’t do all of it
Only buy dwarf though because a advertised small pleco will actually get to two feet
@brotherbros9395 plecos will not clean your water
They create a lot of waste ie a lot of ammonia. They just eat some surface algae.
1 inch per gallon rule is just plain not true, a 10 inch koi could not live in a 10 gallon, also like apathetic squid said, plecos will only make your water quality worse because they produce a lot of waste and only eat algae. (I have a planted 20 gallon community tank)
I thought I menched the extra inches but I just reread my comment and I realized I didn’t also cleaning water was a typo thanks for clarifying it
That is really cool great job luke
Would love to see a part 2 of adding more stuff to this room
Please make a part 2. I rlly enjoyed this one
Im a big fan, love the new addition to the house. 👍
When you clean your tank put like a filter type thing on the front of it so yourFish don’t come into it and get sucked out because that can happen if your fish or small
Nice video man it's nice to see someone who tries to start the hobby but I would suggest you to read the instructions for the API test kit as that is not the correct way to do the test and its important to test the Nitrate as well (must be lower than 40ppm), and the logs next time put them in a bucket with hot water for a couple of hours or days to release the pigment so that the water doesn't become so yellow.
Can we appreciate that luke always makes us laugh/smile and I'm just loving it!💓
dude that looks insane! it fits so incredibly well!

Wayyy to much work but Luke spends his week doing this for us so let’s appreciate the work he puts into his videos!
This is how much work is necessary for proper care of an aquarium, maybe you are just too lazy to think about that
this is my first time seeing Luke Davidson mad before but mad RESPECT for him he puts the time in his videos and also i love fish so win win

Keep up the good work luke❤🎉
I just realized Luke himself harted it I’m shacking❤️
Give this guy a Oscar for this amazing videos❤
I think you've been watching a lot of MD's video's, right? He's been doing fish-in cycling of his tanks for years and it is actually an advanced approach requiring you to test the water every day or at least every other day. One water test is a moment condition. In the mean time things might happen which increase ammonia and subsequently nitrite levels. But you're taking this seriously and I hope you'll enjoy your fish for a very long time! :)
i love luke vid bcs its fun and always special other that
1. Luke you didn’t read the directions for the water test there are two ammonia solutions
2. The water flow in that tank is way to high for a beta
3. A female would be slightly less aggressive to the guppies
4. QuickStart WILL NOT shorten the aquarium cycle, I wouldn’t be surprised if they died :(
I’d love to see an update soon but as a fishkeeper myself I hope you’ll consider my advice
bruh
Watch because snails can impregnate themselves and some times take over your tank
I think fish will eat their eggs
Amazing video! as a fishkeeper myself i reccomend you get an air bubbler so that there is oxygen in the water and that for the filter as i believe the past that sucks the water into the filter has quite a large opening to get a sponge of some kind to cover it so the guppies dont get sucked in, also one thing with a betta fish is they dont like strong currents too much
when he was talking about going away for a couple days and finding a place for it to stay, it reminded me of that tiktok he made XD
that looks so cool!
❤ woah first!!! Love your videos :)
Your the real first
Real first nice
The video says 30 min ago but you're comment says 31 min ago 💀
as someone who has a small fish myself (small zebra fish named diana) I can say you can also get small stones specifically made for fish that you can use for the bottom of the tank but it depends on what fish I guess!😉, I'm also happy that you used natural plants, as my fish got stuck in one of those artificial plants so I had to take all the plants out!😉
I really like this type of video. It's different from your usual content, but its nice to try something different every once in a while. And I've liked the vlogs lately.
Bro finally someone who did research before getting fish! Most people just buy fish because their easy, but you still have to learn about them, great job dude!
At 17:26, his anger LOL
Very cool tank! Just so you know, I looked it up and the reason your fish are staying at the top of the tank could potentially be because of lack of oxygen, or water conditions. I doubt that the water has anything wrong with it, but the plants may just be taking a while to produce more oxygen. This could just be temporary, but if it doesn’t stop, maybe consider buying more plants. But, it’s your tank, so do whatever you want!
You need some air stones!
Love the tank! And just fyi, there’s different species of fish where they stay at a level in your tank; bottom, middle, surface dwelling. Guppies are mostly top dwelling, that’s why they’re up top, that or they’re just really getting used to the tank like you said :)
18:12 i did not know that plants can grow??😂😂
Broo the small plant is tied to rock or driftwood (anubias). And try to use aqua soil for big plant growth
This is up to you, but if you want something cool that always stays at the bottom you should get a bristlenose pleco, they only get around 5 inches. They eat some algae but do produce quite a bit waste (the bristlenose plecos have hard scales almost like armor)
A really well done tank but there are a couple things that need a change.
1. The filter needs to be less aggressive.
2. Reduce the amount of plants-Guppies are very active swimmers that need space.
3. 1 or 2 caves should be added since Bettas are cave lovers and it would also reduce the risk of him attacking a Guppy.
The scream represent every fish keepers struggles owning a planted tank.😂😂😂 16:26
This is amazing! By far, he’s my favorite RUclipsr.
Glad you did your research! the tank looks great! and there are tweo bottles for some of the bottles of the test kit

Congrats on the new tank Luke! As someone who has owned guppies for close to 8 years now, I wanted to say that it’s totally normal for them to hang around the top of the fish tank.. it seems that is where they like to hang around most of the time

@@nomzy_twitchthey have to have a 10 or more gallon aquarium and you should always buy more females than males to avoid fighting 2 females for every 1 male (Females are larger and aren't that colorful) also provide them plenty of hiding space with plants and thats pretty much all you need
