    Great aquarium! just make sure to use the master test kit properly. There’s two bottles for ammonia and you only used one, which is why it didn’t show properly. Also, you can put a prefilter sponge on both the input and output of the filter to baffle the flow. Like you said, the fish were getting bullied by the filter. It will also prevent the fish’s fins or other debris from getting sucked up into the filter. If you do that be sure to add multiple air stones for surface agitation (it replaces oxygen in the tank.) You should also move the filter output to the other side of the tank. It will help distribute the heater’s heat and will create a current in the tank. For a first tank, or any tank- it’s an AMAZING aquarium. I wish I had the room for a 75 gallon. You could get a 30 gallon tank, put your current fish into that tank, then get angelfish or another big fish for the big tank. Or you could add more fish to the tank after it’s more established. Anyway, great tank, and thanks for reading this long comment!
    EDIT: I also appreciate that you did a lot of research before you setup the tank. Lots of people just put bettas into bowls!

      @@flaming547 I had a half moon betta and he was very chill 😂. Sadly, he had a disease and died. He might be better off now because his tail was massive and it weighed him down so much he bit parts of it off and didn’t eat. He was completely fine with other fish and very special to me. I hope he’s in a better place now. I know I sound like that vegan teacher, but always feel so bad for bettas because they are very commonly mistreated and abused and some types are bred to have big tails but those types of tails often make it difficult for them to swim.

    So I keep fish myself and here are some tips for you, Luke.
    1. It's best to put the thermometer at the bottom of the tank.
    2. When filling up your tank, you can use plastic wrap (by putting it in front of the siphon) to prevent the sand from shifting.
    3. Also a bubbler will be significant, so your fish will get plenty of oxygen.
    Hope your fishies will live a good life!

      The oxygen exchange appears at the surface, a (bubbler) do not make a significant different and does rather work against Co2 building up and plants will then suffer, many and healthy plants equals healthy and ecosphere aquarium!

    • @garywilson331
      @garywilson331 Год назад

      Inlet and out let of the filter need to be on the opposite side of tabk to each other other wise it won't filter all the water properly

    • @kL07_
      @kL07_ 11 месяцев назад +2

      Well, he has plants in his tank. And those will help with the oxygen. The air pump or "bubblers" won't provide oxygen to the fishes. It's the movement in water that creates tiny oxygen particles in water. Bubbles just create a movement + I can also see the water moving from his filter, so it will be fine :)

    As someone who owns two tanks, I do believe that bettas and guppies are a risky match as bettas can get aggressive often against coloured long finned fish. But my second tank has mixed bettas with other fish so if the tank is big enough you should be fine.
    Edit: If you are going to get other fish I reccomend Cory catfish as since they are bottom dwellers they won’t interact with the bettas as much so less Vance of them fighting.

    I've had fish for 7 years, and for a beginner tank you did a really good job! If your interested I have a few suggestions:
    1. Quick start helps, but you should wait a few weeks still. Its mostly just a booster.
    2. You can rinse the sand outside to help.
    3. A UV light should help with cloudy water and algae. (Although some algae can actually be beneficial).
    4. Snails are great, I would add a few besides ones you already have from the plants.
    5. I like your stocking choices! With the guppies, add a 3 to 1 ratio of females if you want babies. (Currently you just have males). Of course, just males can be great too although eventually you'll have to replace them. The betta fish is SUPER risky though, especially because its a male. They are okay with some species in large tanks, but these guppies have flowy fins so watch out for nipping and remove immediately if you see that.
    6. When putting fish into your tank use a net to so dirty water won't go into the tank.
    7. Mollies, Platies, and Neon Tetras are also great beginner fish to add in the future.

    If you would like having more fishes, don't buy more male guppies or other sorts of fish, simply buy 10 to 12 female guppies, they will have guppy fries in a month or so. Just keep in mind, I am not forcing you to keep guppies 😂 just giving an advice. By the way that message was sent by a guppy keeper which is also an experienced fish keeper😅. By the way I forgot to tell you that if the fishes are staying at the top of the tank, that means that there is a lack of oxygen in the water. Put a bubbler in the tank. Tips: don’t use the water that comes from the fish store (could be nasty) the filter does not clean the tank itself, it provide water flow and is a housing spot for bacteria that is actually cleaning the tank. Insta start bacteria should still be given some time before you put fish in. You could put something to hinder the flow from the filter because beta fish like soft flow. Also ph is only a concern for the fish, some fish like high ph (hard water) some like low ph (soft water).

    1. shrimp they are benificial to a fish tank with your current fish and how the tank is set up i think you can have some cherry shrimp but if you are scared that they will be eaten i would recomend amino shrimp they are a little bit bigger
    2. bambo shrimp with your filter they will be a good adition to a tank you will see them on loogs tryng to filter any food in the tank
    3. Neon Tetras they like moving water so you can add sum i recomend 5 of them so they are happy
    4. assasin snail they will eat the small baby snails those small baby snails you found are invasive they will breed and take over the whole tank they will eat all the plants
    5. a mexican dwarf craw fish they are small and can work well because of the rocks
    6.cory catfish are cool little fish who are gonna eat uneaten food
    7. pleco plecos are a fish that grow big so i personaly only keep one
    8. Kuhli loach The true Kuhli loach, occasionally referred to as eel loach, is a small eel-like freshwater fish belonging to the loach family. They originate from the island of Java in Indonesia. This snake-like creature is very slender and nocturnal
    9.Bala shark The bala shark also known as the tricolor shark, tricolor sharkminnow, silver shark, or shark minnow, is a fish of the family Cyprinidae, and is one of the two species in the genus Balantiocheilos. This species is not a true shark, but is commonly so called because of its torpedo-shaped body and large fins

    1 for every 1 male try to have 3 females to stop males fighting
    2 for every inch of fish = gallon of water except beta wich = 10 through 20 Gallons to stop fish dying
    3 to even out feeding use some tablets and flakes so every fish gets food
    4 guppies breed a lot so if you want there young to survive buy some floating plants for them

    When you clean your tank put like a filter type thing on the front of it so yourFish don’t come into it and get sucked out because that can happen if your fish or small

    Nice video man it's nice to see someone who tries to start the hobby but I would suggest you to read the instructions for the API test kit as that is not the correct way to do the test and its important to test the Nitrate as well (must be lower than 40ppm), and the logs next time put them in a bucket with hot water for a couple of hours or days to release the pigment so that the water doesn't become so yellow.

    I think you've been watching a lot of MD's video's, right? He's been doing fish-in cycling of his tanks for years and it is actually an advanced approach requiring you to test the water every day or at least every other day. One water test is a moment condition. In the mean time things might happen which increase ammonia and subsequently nitrite levels. But you're taking this seriously and I hope you'll enjoy your fish for a very long time! :)

  • @tarstco
    @tarstco Год назад +6

    1. Luke you didn’t read the directions for the water test there are two ammonia solutions
    2. The water flow in that tank is way to high for a beta
    3. A female would be slightly less aggressive to the guppies
    4. QuickStart WILL NOT shorten the aquarium cycle, I wouldn’t be surprised if they died :(
    I’d love to see an update soon but as a fishkeeper myself I hope you’ll consider my advice

    Amazing video! as a fishkeeper myself i reccomend you get an air bubbler so that there is oxygen in the water and that for the filter as i believe the past that sucks the water into the filter has quite a large opening to get a sponge of some kind to cover it so the guppies dont get sucked in, also one thing with a betta fish is they dont like strong currents too much

    as someone who has a small fish myself (small zebra fish named diana) I can say you can also get small stones specifically made for fish that you can use for the bottom of the tank but it depends on what fish I guess!😉, I'm also happy that you used natural plants, as my fish got stuck in one of those artificial plants so I had to take all the plants out!😉

    Very cool tank! Just so you know, I looked it up and the reason your fish are staying at the top of the tank could potentially be because of lack of oxygen, or water conditions. I doubt that the water has anything wrong with it, but the plants may just be taking a while to produce more oxygen. This could just be temporary, but if it doesn’t stop, maybe consider buying more plants. But, it’s your tank, so do whatever you want!

    Love the tank! And just fyi, there’s different species of fish where they stay at a level in your tank; bottom, middle, surface dwelling. Guppies are mostly top dwelling, that’s why they’re up top, that or they’re just really getting used to the tank like you said :)

    This is up to you, but if you want something cool that always stays at the bottom you should get a bristlenose pleco, they only get around 5 inches. They eat some algae but do produce quite a bit waste (the bristlenose plecos have hard scales almost like armor)

  • @BenjaminWongYT
    @BenjaminWongYT 11 месяцев назад

    A really well done tank but there are a couple things that need a change.
    1. The filter needs to be less aggressive.
    2. Reduce the amount of plants-Guppies are very active swimmers that need space.
    3. 1 or 2 caves should be added since Bettas are cave lovers and it would also reduce the risk of him attacking a Guppy.

      @@nomzy_twitchthey have to have a 10 or more gallon aquarium and you should always buy more females than males to avoid fighting 2 females for every 1 male (Females are larger and aren't that colorful) also provide them plenty of hiding space with plants and thats pretty much all you need
