Another thing to consider, Porsche’s customer service is top notch. Their staff is always willing to help and cater to any needs you might have. That car will always turn heads but most importantly it will always put a smile on yours. If it were my money, I’d go with the Porsche.

I have ‘wanted’ one of these for years and finally picked up a 718 Cayman S a couple of months ago. Fully specced up and it is amazing. It also does 40mpg down the motorway if you want it to.
well I love mine !! yes the flat 6 has its own symphony but the 718 growls .. and lets face it ….you cant hear the 981 exhaust in a 718 because its behind you !!
Ped, let me put it this way. I had a Cayman 981s, the wife somehow talked me into buying a more practical car. I ended up with a Range Rover. Couldn't have been any more different. I did not get on with it. Sold it and bought a Mustang GT, sold that and I am now looking to go back to a Cayman , or maybe some other options. Cayman is at the top of the list. Buy one, you will not regret it, they are as you say a special place to be.
You sound like me lol,had my 370z nismo, mrs wanted a RR so got it and hated it and bought the mustang 5.0 and sold that and my new cayman T arrives next month lol
I loved how excited you got when you started to initially push on , as petrolheads we all recognise that buzz when a car is phenomenal to drive. Porsche’s have always been my guilty pleasure, so well built and such amazing drivers car. My only worry is the sound but I must admit it sounded bloody good. Thanks for taking us on this journey Peter, your channel continues to be a breath of fresh air and I look forward to every upload!
I have the the original Cayman S 987.1 and even though it is 11yrs old I absolutely love it and always enjoy driving it, the handling is just awesome 😁
Pros : looks great, heritage of the brand, reliable, sporty, so many options, amazing resale value (not that you would want to do so). Cons: Ordered in March 2022 and getting the car in July 2024 (long wait at least for Canada), was 'forced' to add options to get the allocation (Porsche Prestige).
Screw practicality! I have 2016 981 and I absolutely love it! The flat 6 sounds great too ;) I have 2 dogs and they aren't allowed in the car unless they've just been bathed :)
All I can say is whatever Cayman/Boxster you get, do yourself a favor and get the manual transmission....much more fun and driver involving and engaging. I owned a new 2005 Porsche Boxster for 10 years and loved every minute of it. Was mostly trouble free, and I did a lot of the maintenance on it myself. I say life is short, get yourself a Porsche and enjoy. Just a little heads up, my Boxster had the fabulous flat 6 Boxer engine and it sounded absolutely glorious, not so much with the flat 4 in the 718. That sounds more like a Subaru. If you think the noise from the 718 is brilliant, take out a 981 with the flat 6 and you will hear a huge difference for the better. Plus a 981 will be cheaper to buy.
I bought a brand new Macan in 2017, i had one of the best customer service ever. The car is flawless and rock solid. My next car will probably be a Cayman. An important PRO is the amazing resale value. It was the first time i seen one of your video, good job keep the great content!
I've only owned one Porsche when I was younger, a 944 S2, and I know that feeling of solidity well. What I love about the one in the video is the buttons, the lovely, nicely weighted buttons, and none of these ugly plastic touch screens.
I own a 40,000 mile 981 Boxster S and have spent 4 hours throwing a 718 Boxster S around various handling circuits and surfaces at the Porsche Experience Centre. Both are great cars and very similar from a handling and drive point of view BUT the power delivery, sound and feel of the 981 are in a different league!!! If I change mine in the next couple of years, I’ll be hunting down the latest and lowest mileage 981 I can find, hopefully a GTS, before I finally have to accept a Porsche with a turbo. 🙄
Mark couldn't agree with you more. Owned a 2005 Boxster for 10 years and the flat 6 is so much more visceral and enjoyable. I too am looking for a low mileage 2016 981 to keep for a very long time.
Mark, do what I did to my 2014 981 Cayman s. Get a COBB Protune to 364hp, 420Nm, 0-100km/h 3.89sec, and retain the stock air filter and exhaust manifolds. You end up with a beast that pulls like the clappers from 3500rpm to redline, a hair-trigger throttle response with that legendary Porsche flat 6 NA engine wail. For only A$1900, it's the best option Porsche never included!! Believe me when I say I'll never need another sports car... I laugh every time I return from a drive now......
Have the 981.. love it! ..coming from an F13 6series BMW I find it’s not such a compromise practically wise, and every time I get in it ,it feels like an occasion. Definitely more exclusive than the usual ‘sales rep/ company car’ look alike Mercs/ Audi’s and BMs
I agree with your enthusiasm for the 718 - the only down side is the low speed shall we call it roughness and almost agricultural sound of the engine when accelerating from low speed- You can live with it but am continually surprised it is there in a Porsche- I also have a 310 bhp Golf R now there is a car of practicality and after 10,000 miles still yet to find a fault.
I recently picked up a used 2016 Cayman S with PDK and Sport Chrono. The last year of the Naturally Aspirated Flat 6. It's only a 3.4 liter with 325 HP, but man is it fun to drive. And what everyone says about the exhaust note is true, it is like a symphony. If you are thinking about a newer 718 with the turbo boxer 4, it would be worth your while to find a 2016 Cayman S and take a drive. You won't be disappointed.
@@PetrolPed I researched them for about a year and everybody on RUclips just loves the Cayman It's a driver's car. I pulled the trigger a couple months ago and found one at a dealer and it was certified pre-owned 3 year warranty so I couldn't resist.
I've been a 911 "snob" for 6 years, really because when I grew up, the Boxster/Cayman platform didn't exist. My OPC has loaned me several while my 911s have been serviced or had warranty work, and I have to say, the Cayman is the only car I never want to give back - it's just brilliant. I don't fully understand your requirement for nearly new, but if it were Mrs Windy, our two dogs and me, I'd be looking at a late 997.2 Carrera (or Targa 4S for ultimate practicality) or a leggy early 991.1 for your indicated budget. The OPC extended warranty can be renewed until the car is 15 years old and gives great peace of mind. I'm not knocking the 718 platforms, but you know you need to have a 911 in your life at some time, so why not now?
I’m currently reviewing the used market for my first Porsche- a base 718 cayman. Love your enthusiasm it’s infectious - great vlog and my want one juices are flowing strong
That Porsche is amazing , I’ve always wanted a Porsche it’s my dream car. I can’t justify spending that much money and my long suffering Wife would probably leave me as she has put up with me changing my cars constantly over the years. That feeling you get from car shopping is unique, I am hooked. Good luck with the search and look forward to seeing your pick up👍.
There are excellent condition 981 Cayman S's available in the $40-$50K, which has a real Porsche flat 6. Porsche is constantly offering incentives on the 718 just to get stock off the lot.
If you can afford an S, you may as well spring for a GTS for the larger turbo and more linear power delivery...but yes, you definitely should buy a 718.
Petrol Ped update.....bought one, nothing but trouble, very poor build quality, shit dealer “Porsche Edinburgh” sold it from new with only 400 miles on the clock. Pile of junk.
PP- I have to agree with the choice. It's a superior car in every way to prior generation. The S version, with 350 BPH is 'enough' to do duty from the garage, it's still too new to be chip programmed (warranty), and, a few choice options really up the car to very close to supercar levels (PSM, sports chrono...) Personally, I LIKE the 4 cylinder turbo sound (flame suit ON!), and, would want all of the improved characteristics MORE than the wail of the venerable flat 6. Both generations are 'special' enough, and buget limits DO keep marriages together, but, I the think the ever so slightly/gently used 718 Cayman S is a better car is too many ways- a true car lovers sleeper of an ownership experience. A genuine "Poor Man's" 911 911.2 Porsche GT3 with a six speed manual (starts @ $150k- Oops!). I'd argue that it's brilliant, but- NOT 3 times as good as a 718 Cayman S.
Ordering my 718 Cayman S next year. I currently have a Panamera and will continue to use it for long trips and winter driving and will use the Cayman S for all other driving conditions.
You liked it then and rightly so. Having spent time with both cars, I can say the 718 is better than the 981, it feels more sorted and the torque from that turbo motor is addictive, however the 981 has a way better engine note and slightly better throttle response. I have to say while I love cars such as Audi TT's & BMW M cars, they are eclipsed by Caymans & 911's in feel good factor by some margin.
Roger Bailey I’m a big fan of torque. Having owned a mk 2 Opel Kadett a couple of decades ago that had a NA 1.8l engine with literally about 120nm, even my 320D with 380nm is a revelation. 700+nm is the life goal :)
RB - Oi! Don't go on with making comments just because there's a bloody Porsche in the film. Jeez... Get another video out mate. Chop! Chop! You've not done one for nearly a week on poor old Pete puts out 2 per week...!! So pull your finger out and get filming mate. :-))... From your No1 Stalker. :-))...
Pete, I reckon you should try a BMW M140i 3.0 litre 6 cylinder 340hp I did and was blown away by this car and have now ordered one for March. I tried all the contenders in the same class but this thing stood out by miles.
I have a 718 boxster s. Chrono, pasm, pdk, stock exhaust. There are better aftermarket exhausts (fi sounds beast) , and tuning this car will devastate performance compared to the old 6. Car puts out 338 at the wheels btw, closer to 400 bhp stock. So out with the old and in with the new.
there is a parcel shelf behind the seats of the boxster, but you better not lower the top if there's something there. It's deeper than the one in the cayman. You have to remove the wind deflector to access it.
I never thought these types of cars would look good in grey/silver which is what many would consider a "boring color" for a sports car, but it looks nice. I was thinking of mine in either blue or red but I may even consider one in silver in the future.
I am a massive Porsche fan, and spent a few years in a 997 .... but .... it’s got to be 6 cylinders, and it’s just not practical enough ... you, Mrs Ped and the dogs won’t fit - so days out will be in the wagon .... a 911 has rear seats (of sorts) !! 😜 and really you need the convertible .... so that’s it, and 911 convertible !!
Look for a 981 S. I recently drove a 718 at my service visit and was much happier to get back into my 981 S. The extra torque on the 718 was a marginal pro compared to the sound and feel of my Boxster S
A better buy is a 718 Cayman GTS? Go through the spec and see how much more is offered for a justified amount of more money. Says a Cayman S owner with a 6-cyl and PDK transmission, the model year 2016. The last breed of its kind.
Porsche has been my favorite car since early elementary school. I had a electric race track and the 935 was the only car would use. I finally bought a Cayman at 53 years old. Every time I drive it it makes me feel like that kid again. Now I'm dream of getting a GT 3 RS and know it's only a dream.
You're first dream came true Kevin...you never know the second one might one day ! I've driven a GT3 RS on track and it is still for me one of the best cars I have ever driven. Simply AWESOME !
Petrol Ped haha thanks That would be awesome just to drive it. I just showed my wife what you said and she busted out laughing and said it's a dream. Enjoyed your video! Take care.
Stuff the minimal extra practicality and look at the Boxster. Better still, have practicality and extra space and source a decent 997. If you must go for a Cayman/Boxster, the latest of the older 6-cylinder models would probably be the best financial investment but the 718 - in my opinion - is superior in every other way. Sound certainly wouldn't sway it for me as I agree with you, they're simply different. A grey 718 with a deep red hood looks superb..
I own a 718 Boxster , I have owned it since new in 2016 and have now done 3 Euro road trips and today hit 36000 miles . It has not missed a beat , fantastic car and has never had a single fault or issue . Do it buy one you won’t regret it ! PS My Spaniel loves it with the roof down ......
I had 911 cabriolet and traded it for a fully optioned 2017 718 demonstrator from Fresno Porsche. Very very happy. It really out performs my 2009 911!!!!
Just picked up a 981 with very low miles, I nearly went for an S but after driving I realised I just don't care about the power any more (and frankly, it's not slow, just needs to be driven like a Honda and rev'd high). Involvement and driving feel is all that matters to me now, not how fast it can get to 60 from a traffic light. The BASE 981 Cayman sets better track times than Audi S3's, AMG A45's, Golf R's etc. Whichever you buy, you'll be very happy with it.
Cupholders above center stack, scary! Would never use it. The handling though, sublime.......I tested both Cayman and Boxster, so good. Thinking a fairly well used 911, has the back seats.
If the S is pushing your budget, have a look at the base model. There’s not really as much as a gulf in performance as the figures suggest. I drove both and went for the base, let me put more money into options. You’ll still get all the things you liked about the car, plus plenty of room for a couple of small dogs in the passenger footwell and seat. The base version sounds better, too.
I also drove a Boxster S when I was shopping for my sports car. Nice tiny car but in the end, there are just too many Porsches driving around in my area. So I went for a Jaguar F-Type Convertible.
guys do as you like! buy the car you like, don't worry about any dogs, wife, or girlfriend, they will leave you one day! but you could always count on the enjoyment of your favorite car! the 718 is a Beast! PDK all the way
Getting my Boxster 718 GTS in April next year and I’m counting the days. Btw. I drove the “S” 2 month ago and after only 20 minutes I was hooked on that car with the biggest smile in my face.
hi sir just a suggestion sort list the car you are interested in you top 4 or 5 cars and have your subs have a vote on it to give a good yardstick of what your subs like best out of five then top three and then your winner.
Why would anyone use a dog as justification for selecting a car. I wouldn't let a dog anywhere near my two Porsches. A dog belongs in a PU truck. Very nice review. I just got a 718 GTS and it makes me feel exactly they way you describe!! I can't believe I have it! you nailed it on your review. I can't believe there are not more of these on the road. If there was ever a car that would make you throw the budget out the window this is it. It also sound great and is so quick you will not be on the gas for long.
TOTALLY RIGHT !!!!! FLAT 6 IS BEST!! Its like the 911 v the 912 ...haha... THIS GUY IS A PORSCHE 'NEWBIE' ...HE SHOULD TRY A LOT OF OTHER OLDER PORSCHE MODELS FIRST......MY FAVE IS THE OLD 3.3 911 TURBO.....SCARY AND YOU HAVE TO RAISE YOUR GAME WHEN YOU DRIVE ONE - TRUE DRIVERS CAR TO SORT OUT THE MEN FROM THE BOYS.
You are exactly like me when I first drove one! The tactile sensation through pedals and wheel is very special, as is the noise if you go flat 6. Closest thing to a race car I’ve heard. They lack torque though compared to a turbo engine and that is noticeable. The in car tech is no where near as good as BMW iDrive. The stalk accessing functions is not great. Mine rattled though (not uncommon) and used some oil. And I found 2 seats a pain after a while, though it was my only car at the time. That said, practicality is pretty good. I moved house when I had mine and you really can pack a lot in. At the risk if being a party pooper, all I would say is don’t ignore the cons or how much it’s costing you. It’s easy to get carried away with Porsche. Don’t listen to anyone who says they don’t depreciate either. I think they are a very focussed car and for me I prefer something with a broader range, even if ultimately it’s considered ‘less good’. Still, if you’ve never had one and you want one, go for it. Lots of people love them, just not me!
Petrol Ped no worries. A couple more from me. Be careful on spec. Wheels - the larger they are, the more road noise. So, it’s kerb appeal vs practicality, especially if you’ll use your car a lot, like I did. The other is seats. There are about 4 different ones. Mine had the SportsPlus seat I think it was. Initially they seemed fine if snug. Long journeys, however, left me with bad hip/leg numbness. 2 hours was about enough for my body size and shape and I’m not fat, but fairly broad and quite tall at 6ft 1. Interestingly, my Porsche salesman bought himself a BMW M2 as a performance car and the Porsche Driving Instructor at Silverstone owned a Shoda Octavia vRS...
Earlier this month I bought a 2013 981 Boxster S with ony 15,000 on the clock, having traded in my 987.2 Boxster S for it. This car is a genuine treat. The sound of it, the handling, the PDK is so noticeably different than the PDK I had in the 2009 Cayman. The interior is downright handsome and puts a smile on my face when I slip in the machine. The car feels luxurious when driven normally and then turns into a hooligan in a nanosecond, when the muse calls and the right foot get to work. I value the sound of the flat 6 very much; it's a real contributor to the experience when I drive. If I want to creep up to the 350 HP there are ecu tunes out there, though without the turbos, it won't approach the grunt of the 718. Here's good luck to you, no matter the car you choose, but I'm glad to hear you're enamored with the Cayman S. Merry Driving! Happy decision-making.
Another fantastic review Peter. I can't afford one but after your review, I'll have to get one now. Haha. Kidding 🤗. Got to be honest though, I think the more cylinders the better, mainly the sound I guess and I know that more and more manufacturers are dropping down to 4 and less in the average car but I would go for the 6 pot personally and something inside my budget. Any nice used 911s for sale at PC Portsmouth Peter? And you get your 4 seats 👍 Cheers, Jon.
I recently met a chap at the local canadian tire shop who had picked up a beautiful blue 719 cayman.... previously loved ........im hooked !!! Im also on a very limited budget ,but its attainable , ill just have to find one a few years older , if the timing and tides are right ,the dream can come true for me as well !!! p.s. thanks mate for helping keep the dream alive
Great video Ped! Love the 718 Cayman, they are amazing cars. Gonna be painful waiting for you to finally show us the REAL purchase though. Spoiler alerts please!!
In my country: (Based on the nearby price) 718 Cayman (Not S) - 4 cylinder 300 hp, 380nm - 214k USD (But you get a Porsche) M2 - 6 cylinder 370hp, 465nm - 183k USD (But you get a sound and performance-ish?) Quite hard choice..for long term choices both are rare to find since it is so expensive
Once Porsche gets in your blood nothing else will do. Just bought my 4th, current garage C4S Cab and Cayenne SD. Love every mile in them, its a very slippery slope my friend.
I love autobiographies but my fav book from the last couple of years is called 'An Officer and a Spy' by Robert Harris. Brilliant book ! By the way, the Jilly Cooper books aren't mine :-)
I know how you felt while driving the Porsche, I bought mine in West Sussex and drove it back to Essex, I had the same grin on my face the whole way home. Had the top down the whole way home.
Petrol Ped Almost. Get the Boxster, it’s convertible, you can’t beat it. Mind you the pooches would both have to share the passenger seat. Very excited for you, and can’t wait to find out what your final decision will be.
Hi Peter, fab car that. I've driven one and own a 981 Boxster S. I would just say that it's not just the sound but the character of the engine that has changed. The 981 comes on cam at 4.5k rpm and then screams up to the red line but much less torque down low. I think it makes for a more enjoyable drive. I hope you can try one to compare
Who would have thought Peter that you got pretty close when you bought the Boxster a few years later. It’s amazing how Porsche dealers understand that you may not buy today, or tomorrow but simply letting you have a test drive may deliver in future years! Cheers, Kevin.
The 981S engine just sounds so much nicer and drives like a proper sports engine should, i.e you get rewarded for more revs. The 718 engines just sound so poor and revving them is about as fun as driving a diesel. If you want torque just get a big diesel and forget the idea of a 'sports car'.
Oh no or doesn’t. The 718 has GT4 suspension and is much better handling as well as been far faster everywhere. The six is noisy and hard work in comparison.
That is a completely wrong attitude that very few would agree with. The delicacy, balance and handling is what makes a Cayman, not just the engine note. You're a wrong 'un ;)
Oh man, I am in the same position right now. I was carefully considering a new car this winter. I had to figure out what exactly do I need from my car, I considered tons of options: BMW 3. series, Audi A4, Toyota GT86, Mazda MX-5, BMW Z4, Audi TT, Ford Mustang, even hatches like Kia XCeed. I went with Audi A4 and I love it, but after driving Opel Tigra for 4 years, I was spoiled by small cars. New A4 just feels so big and bulky. It surely is practical for my needs. I just went on a holiday and could take a whole trunk of luggage + drive 4 friends in my car, but when I had Tigra, I never had problem that I could not fit enough people that I wanted. I mean, sometimes there was this problem, but it was not mine :D I don't have family, and very rarely drive 1 passenger, so I kinda want a small-framed, nimble and somewhat practical sporty coupe. I am seriously considering trading that A4 (which I truly love) for TT or Cayman. Gonna take both for a test drive soon.
Have to agree and it makes a change someone loving the 718 ,I’ve driven a GTS and it was fantastic car and maybe being used to driving turbo cars i loved it and it’s so so quick and PDK is a delightful box
Don't. I just did, replacing my Audi TT Quattro, and regretting ever since. Maybe the TT is not as quick as the Cayman, but you can't beat the road holding of the TT.
Lovely car. Looks like you are on a slippery slope if you are now justifying why you should have it lol. But saying that its exactly what you need to do, how many times are the pooches going to be in the car etc. Whats next we wonder ?
Thank you for your video. Like you I have 2 small dogs to take along for the ride. I have BMW Z3 with a removable hardtop and it’s tight for them. The 4-cylinder sounds good, reminds me of the older 911s or a VW beetle with an enhanced engine.
You are the first Cayman driver who looks like reaaaallly enjoying it...to the last bit of it! Exactly like lapping the last drop of an Elixir beverage prepared by a mystic druid! Congrats buddy...i will be joining the Porsche Club soon FGW!

Another thing to consider, Porsche’s customer service is top notch. Their staff is always willing to help and cater to any needs you might have. That car will always turn heads but most importantly it will always put a smile on yours. If it were my money, I’d go with the Porsche.
That’s not what a Cayman S owner told me, he said they were shocking at various Porsche centres.

this is by far the most personal car review I've ever seen!
(p.s. your video confirmed that I should be getting this)
Cheers. Glad you enjoyed it :-)
All I can say is whatever Cayman/Boxster you get, do yourself a favor and get the manual transmission....much more fun and driver involving and engaging.
Thanks Doug. I've driven a manual 981 S and loved it :-)
Clutch all the way !!!!
Just bought a 718 Boxster a few months ago and I can’t get the smile off my face. Do it! You won’t regret it.
I just bought a Cayman S last week…traded my TTS in …..Loving it, best move I’ve made in a long time!
I bought a brand new Macan in 2017, i had one of the best customer service ever. The car is flawless and rock solid. My next car will probably be a Cayman. An important PRO is the amazing resale value. It was the first time i seen one of your video, good job keep the great content!
Cheers Dave, I love the Macan too. Very tempted with the GTS. Glad you are enjoying my content 👍
I've only owned one Porsche when I was younger, a 944 S2, and I know that feeling of solidity well.
What I love about the one in the video is the buttons, the lovely, nicely weighted buttons, and none of these ugly plastic touch screens.
944 S2…what a car 👌👍
Mark Eardley I just bought a low mileage 981 GTS ... for the same resson
I say: If you CAN buy a Porsche, you SHOULD buy a Porsche.
it's not bad though .. it has the badge
Guilherme Campagnaro go 981 GTS.. 4 banger is not a Porsche
Guilherme Campagnaro he cant afford a Porsche.. he went used S4
this will be my next car...driving a Macan now
Clearly, the guy doing this review can’t afford a Porsche
If you love it and can afford it buy it and enjoy it life is too short. Screw what everyone else thinks. Nice car no doubt
!!
The sound of my base 718 reminds me of flying in a 2 seater airplane. Agricultural sound, yeah... like an crop duster airplane. It's a beast!
Sounds like a nice car 👌
Thanks Paul :-)
I’m currently reviewing the used market for my first Porsche- a base 718 cayman. Love your enthusiasm it’s infectious - great vlog and my want one juices are flowing strong
I know own a 718 Boxster GTS 😜👍
That Porsche is amazing , I’ve always wanted a Porsche it’s my dream car. I can’t justify spending that much money and my long suffering Wife would probably leave me as she has put up with me changing my cars constantly over the years. That feeling you get from car shopping is unique, I am hooked. Good luck with the search and look forward to seeing your pick up👍.
You sound like a very good friend of mine ;-)
There are excellent condition 981 Cayman S's available in the $40-$50K, which has a real Porsche flat 6. Porsche is constantly offering incentives on the 718 just to get stock off the lot.
993mike 911 turbo 997 is on that budget that’d be my pick
If you can afford an S, you may as well spring for a GTS for the larger turbo and more linear power delivery...but yes, you definitely should buy a 718.
Caymans are superb cars....great value for your money.
Yep 👍
Petrol Ped update.....bought one, nothing but trouble, very poor build quality, shit dealer “Porsche Edinburgh” sold it from new with only 400 miles on the clock. Pile of junk.
The new A35 could be a shout. Within budget and one of the nicest looking for hot hatches inside and out 🤓
I watched a review on one this week and thought the same :-)
“That ‘want’ gland...”
That must have resonated with all of us! Perfect description! Now, back to the rest of the film.. :-)
I'm glad I'm not the only person to have one !
That primal "want" gland
Nice 👍
I think you’ve found your car!!! Bloody awesome! I could feel your excitement through my PC!!!
Cheers Matt. It was great fun to drive that's for sure :-)
hey stalker, ok ok ok :-))
stubones not come across much with 700+ but I know what you mean
Not having tried them i'd take a slightly older 6 pot manual over the 4 pot, gotta have that sound track :)
Pete, I reckon you should try a BMW M140i 3.0 litre 6 cylinder 340hp I did and was blown away by this car and have now ordered one for March. I tried all the contenders in the same class but this thing stood out by miles.
I sure do :-)
Agree. Fantastic cars. A nice used 135 or 140 is on my radar for my next car 😬.
Scott Ferguson I've had BMW's for years and never been called a prick for driving or owning one, not sure where you live!!!
I have a 2006 caymanS with PASM since 2010 and I still love it and can not live without it ❤
Nice 👌
Should I buy an Airbus A380 for my next jet plane?
I can afford a Porsche but not sure I have £229 million to buy and A380 ;-)
hhhhhhhahahaha
I have a 718 boxster s. Chrono, pasm, pdk, stock exhaust. There are better aftermarket exhausts (fi sounds beast) , and tuning this car will devastate performance compared to the old 6. Car puts out 338 at the wheels btw, closer to 400 bhp stock. So out with the old and in with the new.
Great car, I love those wheels. Sort of a modern interpretation of the old Fuchs style.
there is a parcel shelf behind the seats of the boxster, but you better not lower the top if there's something there. It's deeper than the one in the cayman. You have to remove the wind deflector to access it.
Just watching this guys excitement lets me know that I would love it too. Great video man
I never thought these types of cars would look good in grey/silver which is what many would consider a "boring color" for a sports car, but it looks nice.
I can see your point :-)
981 S is the one to have. Great engine, best sound, big factor on a sportscar
981 gts 😉
Get it, more fun to drive than my 911 c2s convetable.
Chalk GTS !
I agree, there is "Madness to" your "thinking".
I have a 981 boxster s. Love the sound of it. Buy a 981
They are too old now. I always buy new cars.
Nice car Sir !
Take care.
If I sold either of my Minis and could afford that car I would be signing the paperwork. Lol
LOL !
Thanks for this :-)
Should I buy this as my first car? Yes. Where am I gonna get the money to afford this? I'll figure it out 😅
I own a 718 Boxster , I have owned it since new in 2016 and have now done 3 Euro road trips and today hit 36000 miles . It has not missed a beat , fantastic car and has never had a single fault or issue . Do it buy one you won’t regret it ! PS My Spaniel loves it with the roof down ......
I can see your spaniels ears flapping in the wind as you fly along !
Awesome car but with 2 dogs you need a bit more practicality, honda civic type R would be a good choice or an Audi RS3.
I like you thinking !
I had 911 cabriolet and traded it for a fully optioned 2017 718 demonstrator from Fresno Porsche. Very very happy. It really out performs my 2009 911!!!!
Yeah I'd be disappointed if a 918 didn't outperform the 911!
This is going to be a tough choice..... looking forward to seeing the others!
Oh yes...I'm like a kid in the candy shop !
Really interesting mate. Thank you :-)
Cupholders above center stack, scary!
I've driven both and know what you mean :-)
I remember your first Boxster review now. Strangely, I drove the exact same car when I did my first test drives, weren’t any Caymans out at the time.
Nice Cayman Pete. I don’t think this will be your next car though. Too many compromises.
I also drove a Boxster S when I was shopping for my sports car. Nice tiny car but in the end, there are just too many Porsches driving around in my area. So I went for a Jaguar F-Type Convertible.
Nice :-)
Yeah, this Porsche in my opinion is the better but I prefer the Macan
A Macan GTS would be very nice :-)
guys do as you like! buy the car you like, don't worry about any dogs, wife, or girlfriend, they will leave you one day! but you could always count on the enjoyment of your favorite car! the 718 is a Beast! PDK all the way
This is the first video of yours I’ve come across. I hope you buy the car 👍
Great to have to onboard. Hope to announce what I will be buying soon !
Getting my Boxster 718 GTS in April next year and I’m counting the days. Btw. I drove the “S” 2 month ago and after only 20 minutes I was hooked on that car with the biggest smile in my face.
You lucky lucky thing ! What a fab car and not sure how you are going to contain the excitement :-)
hi sir just a suggestion sort list the car you are interested in you top 4 or 5 cars and have your subs have a vote on it to give a good yardstick of what your subs like best out of five then top three and then your winner.
Great idea :-)
Top of the list should be VW GTi dsg, just as much fun and room for 2 dogs.
The 718 is a very pretty car but I just couldn‘t get over the 4 cylinder. The old six just howls so good above 5k ...
Thanks for such sound and considered advice Andrew :-)
Awesome. My dream right now is the Macan GTS. The Porsche badge is something special.
I love those too !
Actually my parents are saving for a Macan S.
Love this comment. Thanks :-)
They had a nice GT3 ;-)
I recently met a chap at the local canadian tire shop who had picked up a beautiful blue 719 cayman.... previously loved ........im hooked !!! Im also on a very limited budget ,but its attainable , ill just have to find one a few years older , if the timing and tides are right ,the dream can come true for me as well !!!
p.s. thanks mate for helping keep the dream alive
Glad I could help and good look with your search 👍
Great video Ped! Love the 718 Cayman, they are amazing cars. Gonna be painful waiting for you to finally show us the REAL purchase though. Spoiler alerts please!!
Slaine The King I
In my country: (Based on the nearby price)
718 Cayman (Not S) - 4 cylinder 300 hp, 380nm - 214k USD (But you get a Porsche)
M2 - 6 cylinder 370hp, 465nm - 183k USD (But you get a sound and performance-ish?)
Quite hard choice..for long term choices both are rare to find since it is so expensive
Wow !
Where do you live ?
@@PetrolPed Thailand, and i do believe Singapore and few other country may costs more
"Biblically good 🤣🤣🤣" I love it!
Once Porsche gets in your blood nothing else will do. Just bought my 4th, current garage C4S Cab and Cayenne SD. Love every mile in them, its a very slippery slope my friend.
Yeah, that's the way it is.
LOL...but what a slope :-)
Snap. I had a 997 a few years ago and now a 981 BS. What a piece of design and engineering. 👍🏼🎅🏼
For some reason I was more interested in your reads.drop a comment on your favourite book.
I bet you nearly turned round and did it again !
Petrol Ped Almost. Get the Boxster, it’s convertible, you can’t beat it. Mind you the pooches would both have to share the passenger seat. Very excited for you, and can’t wait to find out what your final decision will be.
The car is beautiful, wish I could afford one!
I've driven one and loved it :-)
Totally agree Steve. Maybe Ped should look at a 981 GTS. Mine is nearly that spec and it’s a stunning motor to look at and drive.
The lack of six cylinders just doesn't cut it for me, lovely car though 👍 Good luck with your search!
I have an 18 718 Cayman GTS. Different car than the S. Highly recommend adding either to your garage, freaking awesome car.
I can imagine :-)
it's a turbo. 'nuff said
Who would have thought Peter that you got pretty close when you bought the Boxster a few years later. It’s amazing how Porsche dealers understand that you may not buy today, or tomorrow but simply letting you have a test drive may deliver in future years! Cheers, Kevin.
Absolutely. Never judge a book by its cover 👍
I still pinch myself I am now a Porsche owner 🙏🏻
A 981 Cayman S will keep it's value so, so, so much better. It's also within your budget.
Do the work and find a really clean one.
I get mine on Tuesday and my pup came on the test drive, he loved it, also. Same colour.
Mega 👍
@@stubones The balance and handling is a given between a 981 and the 718, so why compromise with a crap engine?
stubones The 718 has better ride, handling and steering not to mention a better navigation system and Apple play.
Total nonsense. Just test drive the two cars.
Go for it 😜
What about the Cayman T
Robin J T = Not an S
Have to agree and it makes a change someone loving the 718 ,I’ve driven a GTS and it was fantastic car and maybe being used to driving turbo cars i loved it and it’s so so quick and PDK is a delightful box
I like them both but for different reasons :-)
Porsche Cayman S Jungs! 😂😂
Pick mine factory order Cayman in guards red, ready for collection from Porsche Bolton UK in about 2 weeks can't sleep at the moment sooooo happy
Oh WOW !!!!
You must be like a kid waiting before Christmas !!
Are you a jolly cooper fanboy?😂😂you seem to have her entire collection in your bookcase!
LOL 😂
Check my Facebook and Instagram for a picture of my shelves on the bookcase 😜
Thank you for your video. Like you I have 2 small dogs to take along for the ride. I have BMW Z3 with a removable hardtop and it’s tight for them. The 4-cylinder sounds good, reminds me of the older 911s or a VW beetle with an enhanced engine.
4 cylinder turbo? I would pass, thanks
You are the first Cayman driver who looks like reaaaallly enjoying it...to the last bit of it! Exactly like lapping the last drop of an Elixir beverage prepared by a mystic druid! Congrats buddy...i will be joining the Porsche Club soon FGW!
Cheers :-)
