    Jack saw the sparkle in your eyes looking at that peterbilt.looks good on you

    You should have seen the sparkle in my eyes when I saw this video. I drove a 2010 579 until 2014 when I retired. It was home sweet home for my wife and I after she came to the States from the Philippines. In fact, she gave the truck the name "Aurora" and that is how we always refer to it to this day. We retired to the Philippines in November 2014 and we miss Aurora all the time.
    The outside looks pretty much unchanged and the interior is as roomy as ever. Our set up was very much like this one and we lived comfortably day in and day out. I like the addition of the built-in refrigerator. We had two 12V coolers, so the frig would free up some space.
    Thanks fora trip down memory lane (ours was the same color as well). I always look forward to your postings. God bless.

    Having been a "lorry" driver here in the UK since 1975 and driving "articulated" lorries since 1981, I find the American trucks fascinating and beautiful to look at after some of the dull cab over lorries that we here in Britain drive. I love the conventional long nosed trucks you have the pleasure of driving over there in USA. The Peterbilt you featured in this video was a stunning bit of kit. The auto shift arrangement on the steering column has been used for quite some time here. I have been driving a Mercedes Actros for the past 8 years with the same idea for selecting Drive or Reverse. Automatic lorries are becoming very common here in UK . Can't imagine why anyone would want a manual option when the truck can do the work. Most come with a manual mode anyway if you choose to work harder. Love your videos and comments and already a big fan of Indiana Jack.

    Thanks for the tour Jack, I love trucks too, even if I an retired. I think some of the Volvos have a transmission switch like that, I know John (JBG Travels) new Volvo has that shift. He graduated from a 2013 Freightliner Cascadia with 10 speed manual, and he wanted Auto shift so bad he could taste it LOL., however he is one of ADL's best drivers I believe. I'm not sure but I think the Frieghtliner Cascadia has a similar shift on the right side of the steering column, you put it in gear using the switch, then the handle is like a paddle shifter so you can shift by sound or by hand but it has no clutch, I consider it auto shift as well. You asked so I gave you my best opinion. /// I got your joke about the storage box right away LOL... I've always like Peterbilt, and this seems to be an exceptional truck. I surmise the real test will be when it's pulling a near capacity loaded trailer. If some of my spelling of these trucks is not correct, please over-look it as I did not bother to look them up on Google, I took my best stab at it, but I think a smart guy like you will know what I'm talking about. BTW, that blue color is pretty much my favorite color of any truck I've seen. I believe Ford still paints Robin Egg Blue which is lighter but just as pretty and Freightliner puts out a nice blue color too, but lighter in color. Also the interior lay-out of the truck you showed was very nice. Had a very nice dash board, roomy and quiet.

    I just read about the Volvo I-See transmission that learns and memorises routes and their topography to optimise action... Does Peterbilt have same kind of stuff? I know, many are so old school they become sick of new features but I'm actually very interested... Waiting to get free of that steering wheel, too!

Appears you got a good job at this time, I got feeling Trucking Business just starting on its Up's & Down's. But right now, If bought a new one it would be a Peterbilt. New engine are very fuel efficient to point amazing. My TK 2011 model is just about outdated on fuel efficiency. Trucking every penny counts.

    I have driven several Pete's and like them. The shifter is in a convenient spot. A lot better in my opinion than on the dash. Pretty hard to compare MPG's when we don't know what HP the engine is rated at. Another great video! Maybe you are going to want to start driving again, now that you have finally been behind the wheel of a good truck! LOL

    I Like it....the Shifter Spot is Better than the Volvo I was Driving..it was on the seat, made it hard to kick the feet around to get in the sleeper.....All trucks just take a little getting used to...But I would Sure Take this one!!

  • @happypappy6371
    @happypappy6371 4 года назад

    I think the shifter is in a good location. Too many trucks have them down beside the seat or up on the dash, so you are reaching for them to use it.

    great video Jack the 579 is my favorite new tractor. They are nice looking, have very responsive handling, tight turn radius, ride nice, and a lot of room. Too bad you can't get gliders anymore because the 579 gliders the best choice in my opinion. Sorry but I am not a fan of the Cumaparts and these emission friendly engines. Give me a C15 or Series60 and I'm good to go.

Now its not the fastest in the hills with the 2.79 rear end. If you want more performance you will have to put the auto in manual mode and shift it yourself. I only got 88k miles so I expect mpg to go up once I get lil more miles on it.

I truly love the shifting of the truck, and the 12 speed, trans, really powers up the hills. even with 44,500 lbs. and paddle shifting down, to catch a lower gear faster, for a better climb rate. leaves everyone else behind. got a question. I pass your exit all the time. is it okay, to come into your yard, with someone else company truck?. Just want to say Hi.
