    Hi Martin, Great video on the new truck. As I have said before I enjoy watching your trucking videos for the scenery, appreciating what truckers contribute to the economy and the personal stories we see. It was nice to see you meet Kurt. You and Alice have a very even keel attitude, works best in a stressful job driving 80,000lbs in tough conditions. Learning the technical issues about the trucks is best learned from someone like you who knows first hand. It's great to "sit" with both of you when you drive with your cameras, I really appreciate it. Hope Santa was good to all in the family. Cheers Daryn

    I drive a 2020 Volvo and the sunlight can be a major issue in the morning. I also drop my seat all the way down and I still have great visibility, but the sun still comes in hard and the only way to fix it is to raise the seat, which I really don't like doing.
    So I fully sympathize with you on that.
    And yeah, that hazard lights placement is bad. Not sure what they were thinking.

  • @erichoward6568

    Good comparison Martin, I think the windshield size is driver preference. When I drove a KW cabover way back in the 80s, I loved the visibility. I am 5 foot 10 and still pumped the seat up. I love sitting up high. I don't know if I could ever get used to a w900 with a visor. To me, it was like looking through a slot. To each his own I suppose. Happy healthy prosperous new year.

    One of my peeves, is the big windshields in the newer trucks. Yet they have the basic sun visors that don’t come down far enough.
    Last Cascadia I drove was a 2019. Was a nice truck, except for the visor issue & the driver seats are hard like a park bench.
    Many times dropping off the hill into Denver the sun rise was brutal. They even close the road in the early morning for the sun.
    I would have to pull over, and drape a long strip of paper towel off the visor, so I could see going down the big hill into Denver.

    Marten, if the 4 way switch is a CANBUS, you should be able to move it to another switch location, as the chip in the switch will tell the body computer what it is supposed to control.
    If not, oh well, try a different tack, on that one.
    You might have to talk to your local dealer.
    Happy New Year to all.

      @@TruckingTogether Talk to a Peterbilt tech, you might just be able to swap two switches, and the chassis computer identifies what switch is where.
      With Freightliner and Western Star, you can rearrange the dash gauges, without concern as they tell the system what they can report, without the need to swap wires.
      As I said, talk to the technician.

      @@TruckingTogether I have had at least 4 new cars with factory HID headlights. Very good light.....and NEVER had to replace any part on those systems. Not to say that cannot happen, but reliability on FACTORY systems is very good. The high failure rate comes from the aftermarket/conversion systems. I have used those on motorcycles and a couple vehicles. They don't last well...always keep a spare with you!

    The quality of ALL heavy truck manufacturers have declined. It amazing how we have had to lower our standards to convince ourselves we have a good truck to drive. Emission engines are unreliable. Auto shift transmissions are way more expensive to maintain than a manual. But, this is what "progress" has turned the trucking industry into. It's disappointing.

I wouldn’t say new trucks are worst, they’re definitely more comfortable than say a 90s fld, stay warmer in winter and cooler in summer, drive nicer too. Thank you button is located on the very end of the turn signal lever. See that little bulge it's a button push it end and release. With every push you turn some lights off on your trailer . Your welcome 😊😊

    you would think, now this is going to be a crazy idea ok so bare with me. Being the biggest and heaviest thing on the highway you would think headlight design would be a factor, especially in a 100 thousand dollar ride. nope! Safety only matters when DOT certifies it lol

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Год назад

      It’s honestly the standard for headlights by the us government. We’re not allowed to have the lighting the rest of the world has, but I hear that’s changing.

    You don't have to reach for 4way flashers to thank Driver behind you,just simply push the button on end of turn signal stalk will interrupt your marker lights,never thank a driver with HAZARD lights sends wrong message.

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  8 месяцев назад

      Yes but on some of the older trailers we pull they don’t work, just in the newer trailers it’ll interrupt the markers

      @@TruckingTogether I was having this discussion with my trainer Bc I really want to get your exact truck but he said the amount of fuel burned going up 17 to flagstaff and Cali would be ten times more than our little x15. Now when I go through texas I hit 9.3. Also, idk how you live in Cali. In Fontana now and quite often and god I want to run these people over haha

    • @TruckingTogether

      It’s the same engine with just a different power rating, you probably wouldn’t see any less mpg with more power. Yeah the people in socal suck lol

    Yes the flashers are in a terrible spot I don't like driving the peterbilts I prefer the cascadia's. If you have projector housings I would just get a hid conversion kit. It's cheap and then ever burn out. You just buy them for whatever type of halogen bulb it took not based on the vehicle itself. Do it for high and low beam. Much brighter than led because it could be focused properly.

    The Paccar engine doesn’t always get as good of mpg’s as the X-15. I never drove a Paccar powered truck that got over 6.5-7 mpg hauling common freight. That said my 2023 579 X15 powered truck avg 8-9 mpg. I’ll agree the X15 is much easier to work on and the parts are more readily available than the Paccar engines.

    You hit a pet pieve of mine...lighting on big trucks. With the technology out there now for forward directed light, the only excuse for poor lighting is the manufacturer cutting costs....or passing costs onto the owner...cost of effective lighting, cost of incident disbursements, cost of potential law suits.
    There's no excuse for the manufactures... and non of them have effective lighting.

    • @TruckingTogether
      @TruckingTogether  Год назад

      Alot of it has to do with legislation, there’s a law preventing from decent headlights, i heat that’s about to change though.

    I from the beginning liked the Ultra Loft. Sine getting yours I am liking it a lot more. So many good things about it, especially the fuel mileage. I was not much of an automated fan but since you got yours I would probably go that route if I was perchasing a tractor. Yup hoods are nice and so is a manual 18 speed., But the fuel mileage is King. I think you were wise sticking with an X-15. Can hardly wait till the Green Machine is earning its keep. Bet there will be some nice videos coming out of that truck. Any who Martin. Glad to see A&M growing into the next new mega fleet in North America. Anywho guys have a great New Years time. Have yourself a great and a safe day, happy trails and happy motoring. 22:18
