Yes definitely. Too hard to go fast when there are incapable people in the street.

True words here. Kimi still has it.
Yeah exactly, not to make this all about leclerc but it's like they give him a whole different car to drive. Hopefully Kimi sticks around for a few more years.
He went SENNA. Simple as that.
Mechanically and aerodynamically, this Alfa shouldn't be able to overtake everyone, but Kimi doesn't know it so it goes on overtaking anyway.

It's the tires too. He didn't have to sit as long in the grid as other drivers and he did great job keeping temperatures just right. That gave him the advantage to be able to drive as well as he did. Of course his skills and experience are undeniable too, nothing away from Kimi. But the tires are just SO tricky to keep at the exact right temperature to work and that's something Pirelli needs to fix. Basically, Kimi was one of the only drivers able to do that, and also because he didn't have to sit on the grid so long.
"So how did you gain so many position on the first lap?"

Kimi usually does not gain any places in lap 1. But when he does, he gains 10 of them
Kimi usually gains like 3 positions in the start
At the start he lost a place.
Actually Kimi had great starts at pretty much every single race this season. He starts in 18th and then after half a lap he is 13th and in front of Antonio. Just shows how important experience is
@@bigmac9800 btw the comment was sort of a complaint that Kimi used to lose places very often in his ferrari days, but sure in the midfield his experience pays off very well and makes the comment look weird
@@eliaslsknn6115 he was always way to cautious while other drove more reckless, that’s why he often came off short
The best thing about it was that Kimi was racing clean and fair! There aint much drivers which can actually do that... This should be seen as an example for everyone, because this is how racing should be looking like
Also his racing/defending against Sainz is another fine example....Kimi shows time and again how to race cleanly while also being tough.
F1 is gonna lose so much when he retires. I really do hope that if he continues to 2021 that Alfa is able to give him better car/Ferrari is able to produce better power unit. To be fair he should be racing on front driving Red Bull, instead of someone like Albon who cant seem to get anything done.
@Speed Killer, Definitely!
F1 should FORCE Verstappen to watch this before every practice session, every qualifying and every race!
Yep he's one of the few fair, clean and tough to race drivers out there. Too many times you see others forcing each other off the track...

Kimi's engineer: "Kimi, you are P6, amazing first lap, mate..P6!!"
Kimi: "yeah, i know how to count, shut up"
He definitely knows what he is doing
Kimi's engineer needs to watch more of his onboard - this was business as usual and Kimi could do that every race if Bernie's suggestion of track sprinklers got implemented (or they gave him a quicker car).
Best comment, dude! LOL
I red this with his' voice LOL
this is something he'd say.
Team: "Kimi, be careful, the track is cold. People are struggling with grip. "
Kimi: "I drive rally."
You see how's dealing the steering wheel, rally driver skills kicking in 100%
"Leave me alone! I know what I'm doing!" :P
Kimi: cold you're talking to the iceman
A big Champion is alwais a big Champion.
I've been watching F1 since I can remember. I have the complete races from the late 70's to this day. All of them. I have books and lots of footage from the early days. This is quite arguably one of the best first laps of any driver in the whole F1 history considering KR was driving such a poor car. I can remember Senna's first lap at Donington in 1993 and I always remember the start of the Dutch GP in 1983 when Eddie Cheever jump from P11 to P2 right at the first corner of the old Zandvoort circuit. Eddie was driving the Renault. This first lap from Kimi stands up very well among the ones I just mentioned before. And also Jean Alesi's first lap at the French GP in 1989 wich was his F1 debut btw. Amazing stuff.
Edit: The most amazing thing of this first lap by KR is that when he reached sixth place, Bottas and Sainz could already be seen at the front. That is absolutely amazing.
Tremendo comentario, Ernesto!!!! You justified all what I said and I agree with you that this lap is one of the best not only for the overtaking, but also for the car Kimi was driving. We all know that this year Alfa Romeo is among the three worst cars on the grid.
Could you upload some of your old footage onto RUclips? It would be amazing to see.
Button Austin 2017 ... no grip advantage - just better driving

@@AdityaSingh-qj4hd your first mistake was taking anything he said seriously
Most drivers would have retired by now, especially if they had been in a top team and were now at the opposite end of the field.
And yet Kimi is still here. In my eyes, it's quite clear he's doing it for the fact he loves the sport.
@Tester Speed Kimi has made over 200 million bucks during his career so it's not like he needs any more money either...
@Tester Speed Kimi has been one of the best earning athletes in the world over the past 10 years, I don't really think he needs the money anymore :D
@Tester Speed man .....ha has like 200 mil net worth and he is earning 2mil at alfa romeo XDDDD
This comment didn't age well :(
Kimi was flying 🚀 It's amazing how he avoided contact and didn't even lock up like the others. Wow.
Watching this was pure joy, the most beautiful opening lap I have ever seen
Not too bad considering he's driving a home delivery dairy truck.
Roflmfao
Doesn’t look like a delivery dairy truck to me! Seems pretty fast that Alfa!
It’s called a milk truck, no need to be racist
This happens when your wife doesn't give you the car.

Kimi Raikkonen is and will always remain THE Worldchampion
Masterclass drive from Mr. Raikkönen! You are my favourite since 2001. You showed it to the world again that you are one of the best drivers in the history of F1!👑
The Iceman literally making the hole midfield look like Amateurs
Ferrari and Redbull included oof
His defence against that McLaren was pure class . In an Alfa against Sainz.
The way upshifted earlier not just to leave the space for the car in front but also for the track conditions is a great example of situational awareness. And he didn't even force anyone off the track.
He did it all without DRS, in an underpowered car! That's what makes him legendary.
kimi raikkonen (the iceman) - you can't deny he's one of the greatest f1 drivers of all time, on or off the track
Car positioning and aggression management master class. Kimi is one of the few drivers that actually leave enough space for others to have proper racing. ❤️💪🏻
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO LEAVE DA SPACE
As a brazilian its kinda hard to say this but man, this single lap is as great or even better than Senna’s Donnington magical lap in 1993.
So smooth, precise, no squeezing or throwing people off the track, pure racecraft genius, in a car that was barely fighting for points. Grande Kimi!
Kimi legend!
This is perfect example of how experience can make the difference
exactly
And properly warmed up tires... His grip was on another level. Of course his skills and experience shine here too, but he wouldn't have been able to do that if his tires were as cold as other drivers who had to sit in the grid for much longer. The margins are just SO tiny for those tires to work and Kimi managed to hit the sweet spot. But yes, this was phenomenal regardless. 🙂🇫🇮
This man just knows what he is doing aslong as he got his steeringwheel, gloves and the drink setup properly!
And blankets
Pure talent
He overtook the 2 ferraris haha
thats not as hard to do nowadays 😂
He dropped one place at the start before turn 1, therefore he actually jumped from P17 to P6 in one lap under a tricky condition.
In an Alfa which is the low level car that season..
An Epic Champ.
Best start I have ever seen in the history of f1
Imagine what LECLERC feel when he is overtake by an alfa and the confusion seeing an alfa in p7 LOOOL
the alfa to the ferrari: I AM YOUR FATHER
He's fiexing to leclerc that he's a Ferrari Champion 😂 you are just a Ferrari driver
@Seppe Tank eeeeehhhhhhh not for a decade at least
P6!!
Man, Kimi made it to P6 in a single lap!!!
The best start in the last 10+ years of any driver in F1
Kimi Raikkonen 🇫🇮 is F1 legend, that's not a doubt and one of the most famous F1 driver in the sports history.
