What’s a hot lap with Kimi Raikkonen in a Ferrari F12 really like?

    He is so calm and relaxed, his control is stupidly amazing and he actually doesn't give one shit. This video shows the tremendous driving skill these F1 pilots possess.

    • @ralphcraig5816

      My first thought was that Kimi was definitely used to cars that handle a lot better than this one...

    • @Ilestun
      @Ilestun 5 лет назад +11

      I usually agree with this, have seen many many videos of F1 pilots using "normal cars" and was always impressed be it Senna, Hill, Hamilton, Schumacher.....
      But this time wasn't so impressed with Kimi.
      I still remember how Hill made the journalist puke in a single lap with a "normal" Mercedes, and Senna skills with the Honda NSX back then......looked way more impressive than Kimi with the f12. Maybe Kimi just didn't care tho.

    • @yanan3681
      @yanan3681 5 лет назад +3

      Rally drivers are far more skillful. Kimi and kubica never made it when they switched to rallying it's a far more difficult than f1 as no corner is ever the same.

    • @Ilestun
      @Ilestun 5 лет назад +11

      @@yanan3681 it's a different sport, however I think a Rally driver with a " normal" car will be faster (than the f1 driver) on regular roads and the f1 driver with the sale "normal" car will be faster (than the rally driver) on track.

    • @rousseau327

      @@yanan3681 That's just simply not true lol, there's more to racing than the unpredictability of corners

  • @panzr
    @panzr 9 лет назад +1383

    I think Kimi's brain (like any F1 driver) is ticking over at about fifty billion RPM so everything in the 'normal' world is in slow-motion. To him, driving a Ferrari F12 is like driving a steam-roller. If you slow the video down 10,000 times you can see that mid-way through the lap, he unwraps a sandwich and takes a bite then sends a text message

    • @Stryke607
      @Stryke607 7 лет назад +41

      that makes me wonder: are his general reaction times so much faster than everyone elses, or is that just the case for driving?
      because if not, than he really must feel bored in the "normal-speed-world" :D

      Go t ok a Kart track and do some Karting, not the governed ones, a real race Kart, do that as much as you can, then when you go race a full size car, you will find that as you get used to reacting to a Kart, a real car starts feeling super slow. The Karting background these guys have makes driving a car in anger super easy

    I particularly enjoyed the lift-off oversteer at 2:33 and the way he gave a flick toward the apex, accompanied with a tiny throttle stab at just the right moment to get the back end loose, which allowed him to get perfectly and aggressively right on top of the lines before carefully drifting toward track-out using all the available road surface. My feeling is you can't watch these videos 'too many' times, because you should always be learning something from the masters.

    • @JonathanAllen0379
      @JonathanAllen0379 6 лет назад

      To be honest, I believe the 'throttle blip' was in fact the computer-actuated rev-match, but he knew it was coming and timed it perfectly in concert with the steering input. Driving well is a superb form of performance art, in my humble opinion, and I could easily watch him do it all day long.

In his first season in WRC his best place was 5th, one fastest special stage time (germany), 25 points that season and got Rookie of the year-trophy. Before that season Kimi had done only ONE rally in a WRC-car and couple more in s2000.

    Amazing! Kimi might not be the fastest F1 driver but he can sure bloody drive a car! Why do Ferrari & some other supercars still insist on putting the paddle separate to the wheel, this clearly shows Kimi having to keep one hand off the wheel to change gear...?

      Räikkönen best F1 drivers. This season problems due to alonso's "Minardi front suspension".
      "The Ferrari atm is just a piece of shit molded for Alonso's driving style that doesnt suit anyone else(Alonso vs Massa).
      Kimi needs a good feel to the front wheels and the Ferrari's current power steering doesnt do that.
      Trust me, if Alonso leaves Ferrari for 2015, we will see a whole lot different Kimi and Ferrari. Mark my words.
      No offense meant for Alonso-fans.?"

    I wonder how F1 drivers truly feel about supercars. It's got to be a little underwhelming in some ways when comparing an F1 car to super/hyper cars.

    • @spankyy101
      @spankyy101 10 лет назад +12

      I think having mastered grip racing in the fastest circuit cars I can see why you would say underwhelming, but the raw performance of these and similar cars still excite them, plus they can do sideways laps just like this

    • @rfouR_4
      @rfouR_4 10 лет назад +8

      It requires a different driving style. You're dealing with pretty much no aero grip in comparison, and mostly all mechanical biased, but even then you're on street tires most of the time. With the power most high end supercars and hypercars have like he said you're very much driving with the throttle. I feel he enjoys that.

      Most drivers suggest the enjoyment or satisfaction comes from extracting the maximum possible from the package. Which you can do in anything from a go kart to an F1 car. Alonso, Webber, Senna have all said along the lines of, 'sometimes we have more fun in a go kart than a F1 car'. Maybe driving altogether can become mundane day in, day out though.

    Wow Kimi is one hell of a driver, but as many from Finland he is so chill and cool! First passanger said he made a few mistakes than Kimi said " That's fine they have alot of cars, something usually happens but thats why you are here so you can learn". Others would have said wow you can't drive why are you trying in a Ferrari or something.
