I have used vinegar with powdered milk, almond milk and regular milk and yes, it works on all of the “milks”. Thx Hillbilly Kitchen! #GodBless
Thanks for sharing that. My daughter is vegan and she is trying to expand her recipes
Yes, I am allergic to milk and dairy and have used this method many times in my soy milk…works great!
And I have also soured up half- and- half cream when I've had it. Did it once when the kids drunk up the liquid milk I had set aside. Should have sneekifided it and reconstituted powdered low- fat milk powder. But the creamer was just innocently sitting there and it made a fine baked product.
Blessings to you and your family 🙏🙏🙏
TY for supplying this valuable information! Your God's gift to novice cooks!
That is awesome to know. Thank you for sharing your recipe. God bless.
Becky, you are so good to watch and hear. I think if you were teaching about bugs I would watch.
Becky, I am so thankful for you.
I am 73 and recently discovered I have osteoporosis which has presented several back procedures including six rhyzotomies and one kyphoplasty. Muscle spasms are intense. Please pray for me and I ask the group to also. I would love to get back in the kitchen! I have had several back surgeries over the course of 15 years. I need healing and strengthening on my back. Thank you. I have grown to love you girl. My sister
I just prayed for you Judy.🙏
@@kenniekennard7684 Thank you! My prayer is for God to bless you!
I love the combination of Gods word with the beautiful way you share cooking recipes God bless
I made chocolate chip cookies from your cookbook, Becky! They sure were delicious! First time I ever made cookies or anything else from scratch. I love your cookbook with all the recipes, photos, information about you and your family, and of course, the scriptures! Blessings…
I made them too, Robert, really good!!!
@@timyoder2541 great 😊!
Thank you Ms. Becki for these recipe saving tips.
I loved the word you shared. In today's times that is so applicable!
I'm getting your cookbook and I'm so thankful that you put God first and share God's word. Thank you
I think I've gained 50 pounds just watching your videos. So nice to see some country cooking like my grandmother and great grandmother used to cook. I ordered your cookbook and look forward to getting it and cooking up some more of your wonderful dishes. If the bible had a picture of God's cook, I think it'd be a picture of you. God Bless you dear lady to you and your family!
I've used vinegar to make buttermilk many times. My Mother and Grandmother's also at times used this substitute trick.
I use vinegar to make sour milk. Now I’m wondering what is the difference between sour milk and buttermilk?
@Ginger K
Me too! My mom taught that to me when I was a kid. I always loved to bake, even then. 🙂
Is it white vinegar you use or apple cider vinegar..
@Jean Mann’s
I’ve always used apple cider vinegar.
@@lindabaker4006 thanks
I am so glad that you came back. I have missed seeing you. I just love when you share God's word with us. You are such an beautiful person. And thank you for sharing these little tips. ☺️❤️
Yes! One cup of lets say coconut milk from a can will sour with lemon juice or vinegar.
Becky, you are so right when you say to think about what you’re gonna say before you say it. Like you said you can forgive those words, but you never forget them. My daddy always used to tell me to put my brain into motion before I put my mouth into gear. That is something I tried to teach my children and it is something that has served me well. I love your videos I love your faith and I love you! Take care, stay safe
What a clever idea for a program, Becky. I’d seen the same comments and questions. Cheers to you for thinking to do this. And as far as using nut and grain milks... it won’t matter. It’s the ‘acid-tang flavor’ from the buttermilk that adds the flavor-zing that elevates the batter. It’s the vinegar, or lemon juice added to the batter that creates that same ‘tang’. Doesn’t matter what the fluid/milk is. So people can use whatever ‘milk’ they want... the acid is the secret.
I would mention that I use "Aluminum Free" baking powder. They make salt free baking powder too. (Rumford is only brand I have found in my area that has aluminum "free" baking powder. I live in N. Ga.
Does it work for dried milk?
@@gowest5145 yes
Happy to see you and to learn something new…as always!
Bless your heart Mama.
Yummilicous ! God Bless the Hillbilly Kitchen!
Hi Becky, I ordered your cookbook from Amazon and love it! It’s a blessing to have a religious cookbook to remind us of God and his word. It helps too give us nourishment for mind & body! I am going to email you also. I have a uplifting story to share with you.I am so sorry you lost your husband. "You never get over loosing a loved one, you just learn to cope with it." Thank you for all your hard work!🙇♀️🙏✝️🤗💐🌹
I am so glad I found your channel yesterday. I enjoy the recipes but the Bible versus and teachings I love so much. Thank you
Thank you so much for the tips. I sure do appreciate all you do. God Bless🙏❤
Such tips are important, probably more so to our young families, in these financially trying times. Many who have become accustomed to drive-thru's and restaurants, will likely find it necessary to learn basic cooking skills in order to weather the coming storm. I pray for our young ones, (and for all people), and hope that they are heeding our President's speech about coming food shortages. I hope that they are doing their part to help God help them, by budgeting wisely, and by stocking their pantrys well with basic foods. That is NOT to encourage panicky buying, but is to suggest picking up some extras to put back when grocery shopping. To do so, is no different than how our parents and grandparents applied their wisdom to make ends meet. We, as a nation, have become a bit spoiled to finding whatever we might want readily available on store shelves. But in recent times that has not always been the case anymore. Prayers for peace and prosperity for everyone. 💝
You do a good job of teaching us baking tips and also Life Wisdom’s from Scripture. I appreciate both and you! 🥰
God bless you and I hope y’all are doing well
Amen ! Ms Becky
It works 🌞 I've used both recipes for decades. Granny knew best 🌟💖
I watch All your shows, so glad someone puts god first. It's sad folks don't . God bless.
Thank you and God bless you!
Thank you Becky, God bless you!
Thank you for watching and God bless you!
Becky...God Bless you for sharing we did the self rising flour and left out the salt needless to say it was not a good out come.I used the vinegar and milk for years because no one bought buttermilk . It is so true bout your words I am one to speak and think later and I have had to work on that really hard but it is so true you can not take back what is said or what you write it is done.May God continue to Bless you and your family and wrap his loving arms around you all. Love from Kansas
Always speak with words so sweet, you never know which ones you will have to eat.
Thank you for giving me a feeling of home in the Hillbilly Kitchen.
Hi Becky! I've been following you awhile now and really enjoy the food you cook and the valuable information you pass along. It's clear you know your subjects well. I can almost smell And taste the fabulous things you make.
I have been dealing with medical and mobility issues for 8 months. I can't stand long enough to cook. I can only eat a few bites at a time. Thinking of your food and more importantly your bold and strong faith, your words from the Word help keep me going because you remind me God is in control! He loves m and has a perfect plan for me and you and all His Children . Those words from Him to you to me have gotten me through some pretty dark days. So thank you and God bless you always!🌷🌷🌷
Thank You, Becky, I have so enjoyed your videos and I love that you take God with you!
Thank you for being a part of The Hillbilly Kitchen and God bless you!
Thank you for your words from The Word.
I could never remember the self-rising flour... Thanks Becky👍❤❤
LOVE love love your "tricks" and "tips"! When you speak, I can hear the younger voices of my Mom and "the Aunts" all talking in the kitchen, when I was growing up. Thanks for your wonderful channel!
Love these tips! Thank you. I learned a few years ago about powdered buttermilk. It keeps forever in the fridge so I always have some when I need it. Otherwise I wasted so much!
What an important teaching to share today. Was telling someone new to my church about you, your testimony, and RUclips chanel this morning 🙏❤️
Thank you for the tips Becky! I tend to forget the self rising flour measurements. I love that you share scripture with us too 😊❤
Thanks for this video, Becky, the buttermilk tip is really helpful! When I have to use buttermilk in a recipe the rest of the container always ends up as waste, since I'm not a fan of buttermilk to drink. This will save some money!!
Thank you for watching and God bless you!
Hey, nice to see you. Thanks for the video 👍🏼✝️✝️
I just made 3 loaves of 2 ingredient bread! 2c self rising flour and 1c soured milk we would have otherwise thrown out!!! Buttermilk would have worked too 😉 sooo yummy. It's basically traditional Irish soda bread. We had our chicken salad on it! 375° for 40 minutes
Was so Happy and pleased binge watching this kind ladies recipes explained. Firstly what a delightful voice you have my dear. Very clear, perfect cadence. Wonderful slight southern accent, not over done. Your dishes you share. Remind me so much about the wonderful southern dishes my Aunt Dot served up to my family in her cozy and immaculate Tennessee home.
Great safety tips as well as her reveal on how to make these traditional dishes please the pickiest consumer out there. Love her wise and gentle christian advice she imparts on her visitors. I wouldn*t be surprised to learn she is also a licensed and treasured pastor. I know I*d attend her church and services.
Sorry about my ignored grammar. Just had to express my happiness. I*ll definitely be back for more visits. So thank you, thank you. For sharing your talents. I*m going to go eat.
Thank you for sharing these! I never would've thought they would be that easy. I also enjoyed the bible verse you shared, it was actually the same verse I had in my daily devotional yesterday!
Amazing that this came up today. 🤔 I looked up a recipe for buttermilk biscuits, but it called for self-rising flour which I did not have on hand. I was able to find the quantities of baking powder & salt to add, which matched what you gave in this video. And thankfully, I had some buttermilk. The biscuits turned out just fine. 😃
I miss you. I hope you are doing well and that you are healing from your loss. We care about you.
God bless you
Bless you!
Thank you Becky, I was trying to figure out the ratio for self raising flour just the other day. I really appreciate this video.
Thank you have a Bless day 💞💐🙋🏻
Your channel is one of my favorites of all time lady. Be encouraged today!!!Thank you so much!! Your voice os comforting and calm and kind and giving in so mamy ways!!
You read my mind about how to make the buttermilk. And self rising flour
Love your sign and the verse.
Hi Miss Becky, I always watched and continue to rewatch Phyllis Stokes, may she RIP. Miss Phyllis said you could also use to make buttermilk by mixing 1/3 cup sour cream and 2/3 cup of whole milk. Thank you and may God Bless.😃🙏🐴
Thank you for your tips on the flour and on God's words I love hearing that from you hope you are doing good .
Thank you angel lady. If I lived at your house they would have to weigh me one axle at a time. Your food always looks so good.
My poor daughter Alex has gone on a diet because she has to taste test all of my recipes lol. Thank you for watching and God bless you!
Love your channel ❤️ God bless.
Great tips today Ms Becky. I have done both several times. Great word of God as well. Praying for you and yours. God bless.
There's actually a powdered buttermilk sold in the baking aisle of your grocery store. It's pure, no additives or fillers. You add water or milk in the same amount as the liquid buttermilk your recipe calls for - add this to your liquid ingredients. Add the powdered buttermilk to your dry ingredients. Works great. I've been using it for years. The brand I use is Saco.
God bless you, have a wonderful Sunday. 🙏❤
I've added apple cider vinegar to soya milk as a substitute for buttermilk - it works! Also works fine adding lemon juice to soya milk. 👍🏻 (the lemon juice option tastes better, in my opinion).
Thank you God Bless you &Family
@Andrew Harry Hello Andrew
I use powdered milk with vinegar. Just as good in my opinion. I am single and other milks sour before I get to use them.
Thanks Becky! Love your tips ad especially your sharing scriptures with us. Blessings!
Since I don’t use Amazon, is there some where else I can buy your cookbook. I love your recipes and your choice of scriptures you share are so uplifting. Thank you.
I bought her cookbook on Amazon a couples months ago. Just type in Hillbilly Cookbook and it will pop up! Good luck on your search
You can buy it on EBAY, but she won't get any money from the sale that way.
@@Gliondrach I guess she just gave the book’s to the eBay seller’s
THANK YOU! Your explanation is so much more complete than other sources. And thanks for showing what the buttermilk substitute should look like. I always thought I had done it wrong!! I have wasted so much money on buttermilk for 1 little recipe.
Mrs. Becky,
Another thing I would add to this is how to make your own Baking Powder.
2 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar + 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda = 3 Teaspoons Baking Powder (some people will say add 1 Teaspoon cornstarch; this is optional; I never do)
Store I. An airtight container (I save my empty spice containers for my homemade baking powder and seasoning blends)
The scripture you quoted, in this video is one of my favorites and I say it a lot to my children (and sometimes others)
Have a beautifully blessed day and thank you for sharing
Thank you for sharing with us and God bless you!
I did make a birthday cake using oat milk plus red cider vinegar. It worked perfectly!
I have a friend that is making me a sign. Your mind is a garden.Your thoughts are seeds. You can grow flowers or you can grow weeds.
You are such a very good teacher
Yes! I've made the buttermilk just like this, it does work!!! Ty!!!🙏♥️
Can you marinate steak? Bought cheap steak 😔 can't afford good steak. Yes Becky, God 1st! Thank you for sharing your recipes as well as the good word! Our son passed away (step son, but as far as we are concerned he was our son). He is with his birth mother now, God Bless! I know they are very happy to be together again. I'm happy for that. But our hearts are sad... we miss him so much.
That was very helpful. Buttermilk is not quite so easy to shop for in England, it is also quite expensive. Thankyou for the vid.
Try buttermilk powder
I have used almond milk with vinegar for buttermilk. It works well. Great information!
A great subject to cover! Thanks! I 'googled' about substitute milks, and apparently lemon or vinegar work in them, too.
This answered my question about the salt for your 2-ingredient biscuit recipe, which I can't wait to try. I never knew that self-rising flour already had salt in them. I learned something new today.
I started following your channel today and I love coming across other Believers online. Praise the Lord. Thank you for sharing a Psalm with us today. 🙏
Becky u always do a good job
That was a great idea. I love it when you show the simplest and easiest meals and tricks. God bless you and your families. 🙏🙏🙌

Thank you Becky for telling us about the buttermilk and flour. Thank you commenters for your advice. I appreciate all of you.
I knew about the buttermilk substitute but not the flour now I know. Thanks
Thanks for the tips and the testimony ❤️

Thanks for the great teaching videos.
Wonderful!! I really hope all the Mom's out there will give or share your video with daughters and daughter-in-laws to help them learn a few things. Guy's it's really good also to share with your Sunday school classes. I send them to the teen girls just so they can get a little head start if they'd like to cook. You can share the link on your church pages. Thanks Becky. Prayers to you and your family . Blessings 🙏🕊💜🕊
I am going to try this substitute buttermilk with Oat milk for my banana bread (my grandson is allergic to milk and butter)

Howdy , God bless you , I was wondering .
So happy to see you! I’ve missed you!
I refer to this ( and many others) over & over, Thank you, Becky!
Thank you for the recipe for self rising flour. I make your two ingredient biscuits and I’ve run into a problem of not having any self rising flour. I have done the buttermilk when I don’t have any.
You are such a blessing. Love your videos
I can't find white lilly self rising flour, so I'm making my own ,with your help .

Our economy is over the top & shortages every where , here in Texas Even Sams doesn't have many items they had a few years ago
