Temu is not a company I will ever support. They flood the market with cheap goods, harming both the environment and the livelihoods of companies using ethical practices and are paying employees and goods manufacturers a living wage. They don't pay taxes on their artificially low priced imports, thus they take needed money out of economies. Really like you Cas, but I have to skip this video. See you in the next one. 🙂

I tried to buy a necklace from an etsy seller in France, and I asked her to make a minor change to it before sending, she made some excuse about it, couldn't change it. Later I found the exact same necklaces on temu for less than $2. On etsy, it was $49. The packaging was the same. The quality was the same. It was a 5 star shop that has been operating for several years. But it was an absolute rip off. Those things weren't hand made in France. Not even a little. Temu isn't necessarily the Villan.

You mentioned in the intro that you were going to address the question of why Temu is so cheap, but you never got around to it. There are many reports from journalists who have visited their production facilities and believe that forced labor is used. Also customer service is supposedly awful. There has to be some reason why it’s so cheap and before featuring it in your popular channel, I think it would behoove you to do a little due diligence to explain prices that are too cheap for/any free market production, even in countries where labor is much cheaper than here.

Basically, if the prices seem too good to be true, then there's a catch. Alternatives: I furnished nearly my whole apartment off facebook marketplace, you just need to be patient. Bonus, most cities will have a no-buy group! Free stuff! Goodwill and similar can be reallllly hit or miss, but true consignment stores will have much nicer secondhand things that are still priced much less than new. I also like to hit yardsales when I have time, you can get cool stuff there.

Dear Cas, I just listened to your podcast where you talked about getting rid of all the Chinese junk from the house. And then I saw this video here. Temu uses gamification tools in their app to entice customers to make impulse purchases. Temu uses aggressive marketing techniques, regardless of whether they are legal in the respective country. If it's for free (or super cheap) probably you'r the product. Temu collects all your data and MUST give it to the Chinese government if they request it because it is a Chinese company. Other RUclipsrs have made videos about how much Temu offered them for hauls. That's insane. I don't even want to start talking about the conditions in the Chinese labor camps, the environmental pollution, etc.
How does all of this fit together with what you say in your videos and podcast? About being conscious of your purchases and possessions? NOT to shop indiscriminately and blindly in order to fill your house with crap? Sure, a lot of the things in our stores are produced in China, I'm not criticizing globalization per se. But Temu only fuels everything that is wrong in this world and no one should actively support that.

ETA: I do wonder, after reading some of the comments, how much of this is propaganda being pushed by the American government because of its anti-China stance. We don't get anything like that in Australia.

IMO, there *are* some legitimate things worth complaining about regarding Temu, particularly in regards to some of their marketing practices (I haven't actually purchased anything from them, so no gripes there if only from lack of experience, but I've heard and seen some pretty deceptive marketing from them).
BUT on the flipside, the number of people screaming "it's Chinese so it is always 100% evil and bad, support American made!!" are... I imagine Republican (US right-wing political party) and would support something like My Pillow (a different company with deceptive marketing practices (and other things worth complaining about), except it's American and also run by someone who's very loudly Republican) unquestioningly.

I made a comment under your last video (refreshing a home with little money) that „dirt cheap“ products are cheap for a reason - externalized social and environmental costs. You often promote these products without saying that people who can afford it (and yes, you certainly belong to them) should make more responsible choices. This video shows that it certainly was not an unfortunate exception or lack of knowledge. There are comments about it but you still promote even Temu? As someone who criticizes that we’re accumulating more stuff than we will ever need? That’s Temus core goal: Sell cheap stuff that you don’t need and that will go to the trash within weeks to make place for more trash. Sorry, I love your organization system, but I am out.

Multinational companies like Temu are egregious in their exploitation of their workers-mostly women-and are responsible for something like 10% of the world’s carbon emissions. Stores like Walmart and Dollar Tree have historically used exploited labor and contributed heedlessly to the climate crisis, but they are a now trying (maybe too little too late) to be accountable for the human rights violations and environmental impact of the manufacture of these cheap, cheap products we all keep buying. Temu expects creators to be so excited about a sponsorship that they don't look into the company. They are making creators look bad while making their company look good. And as others have said, since it's China they don't worry about patents or who created a thing, they just pull stuff from people's websites and start making copies to sell.

Cas, do you have an extension mop? Melissa Maker has an amazing one. Maybe you can use it with microfiber cloths to "mop" the walls of the laundry cute from the top then the bottom. Try some cleaning mixture first, then a "disinfectant" with hydrogen peroxide followed by an alcohol mixture? I wouldn't use anything scented because it might mask the odor of anything left and you want to be sure there's nothing hanging around. Oh, and have your daughter help!! Might be a great lesson for the family on what NOT to put in the chute. Good luck!!

For the laundry chute, have you tried using a chimney sweeping kit. Soak the bristle head in cleaning solution and give her a scrub. Best I got 🤷🏾‍♀️

Thank you for doing this haul. I see so many that are down on Temu, yet they shop at Walmart/Target/Dollar Tree/Dollar General/etc. over 90% of our items are coming from overseas. However, many of us are willing to take advantage of savings wherever we can. If people are worried about information, they don’t realize that many apps already get their information. They can use prepaid credit cards. Many things one can do to control their information.

Cas, there are many warnings from legitimate news organizations about Temu, especially that it is a cybersecurity risk. Please do some research and consider taking this video down to prevent viewers from getting badly hurt.

Cass, I love your channel and have learned so much from you, so this is really disappointing. The quickest of Google searches will tell you that this company has atrocious values and is perpetrating human rights abuses. Please do better.

Oh Cass, bless your heart concerning the laundry shoot. I'm sure you'll come up with a great way to clean it and then you better share it!

never had a laundry chute, my laundry was upstairs so i would have needed one that sucked it up lol. i would put a plastic tub or trash can if it would fit under the bottom of the chute and get a garden sprayer and put cleaner in it and spray the stuffings out of it and let it run down the sides and let it run into tub at bottom. after letting it sit for 5 minutes i would do it again in intervals ( maybe 3) then rinse with water in the same fashion.

.. For the laundry shoot . . Grab a couple of spin mop replacement cotton mop heads and an extendable pole, you'll need several.... make *sure* nothing is in the shoot *anywhere* and then use a decent amount of hot water, dawn soap and bleach. It may take several passes to remove all of the remnants . the other alternative is to use a chimney sweep modified with a soft cleaning head to do the job. Share with us what you try and if it works....

I bought a couple things on temu a while back and they had to go straight in the bin. I see now why one of the items that I found on temu wasn't being sold in other stores, because it doesn't work. The other item was also not as photographed. After that the temu ads on RUclips were so much more annoying to me that I subscribed to RUclips for a break. ("I like it, it's mine, the prices blow my mind" in the middle of my minimalism and decluttering videos 😕) I wish you could block advertisers and not only specific ads on RUclips.

We have that same microwave cover from Walmart and I love it. You aren't supposed to use it for more than 10 consecutive minutes so I just stick it to the side of my fridge if I don't want it in the microwave and pop it back in when done. Our old one was constantly being left out by my family and was melted on the bottom in several places by my oldest daughter setting it on hot burners. Not anymore! My husband was all upset when I got it, sure that it was going to set the microwave on fire. He is now a believer. :)

    Hi Cas,
I have the microwave cover, don’t remember where I got it from. We love it! But two tips: always be sure to bring it down when the microwave is in use, don’t leave it stuck to the magnet on top. My husband burned our first one that way! Secondly, never used for more than four minutes at a pop. It’s super easy to clean too!

Skipping the ad for Temu, sorry. I’m so disappointed to see so many YTers promote them, especially anyone with a channel related to minimalism. I would rather throw all of my things in the trash than store them in organizers purchased from that company. Skipping forward to the end story and looking forward to next week’s video.

Oh my goodness the poor laundry shoot! My suggestion is to use either the swiffer (without the liquid attachment) or a mop that is lightly dampened at each entry to the shoot cleaning whatever is within reach. After clean up is done you definitely need to establish “laundry shoot rules-do’s and dont’s” 😆
