On travel products: I keep a travel "get ready" bag packed that is identical to my daily "get ready" bag. When I run out of deodorant for example, I take the one from the travel bag for daily use, then purchase a new one for the travel bag. That way all the travel products stay fresh without expiring and I never forget something. Also, I never run out of anything because there's a backup in the travel bag in the closet!

This has nothing to do with bathrooms, but just want to say: I have been following your method for 2.5 years now and today my 5-year-old son randomly told me: “I actually like it better now that we have less toys.” He followed up with, “but there is one piece I need back from Grandma’s house.” Love that he is feeling the benefits of decluttering and now knows EXACTLY which toys he has AND where to find them. ❤

One day my husband came home with a giant can of Lysol and a giant bottle of listerine. I went to the hall closet and filled a giant laundry basket with giant containers of Lysol and Listerine and dragged it to my husband. He asked where did all that come from and I told him he had bought it because I never buy Lysol spray or Listerine. That was about twenty years ago. Since then he never buys any personal care products, cleaning products, or medicines without asking me first if we already have it. So yes, I do understand what you mean about people going to the store and buying everything when there is already too much of it at home. Thanks for the video Dawn!

It puts a burden on you though, better if he learns to keep track of what he already has on his own tbf unless you don't mind micro managing everything.
Also from an ENT Listerine is not good, if you use an alcohol based mouthwash it raises your risk of oral cancer.

@@justynawisniewska1213 Good to know about the Listerine. I had heard that it’s not great for you but had not heard the reasons. I don’t use it and have told him I’ve heard it’s not great, but he still uses it. I’ll let him know. Also it is helpful to know it’s all alcohol based mouthwashes and not just Listerine. Thanks for taking the time to educate. I really appreciate your comment.

I think our organization starts with being more mindful in the first place of what we’re buying, especially if we already have it in the cupboard or on a shelf. And it helps us keep our money in our pockets instead of going towards “stuff” that’s unnecessary and ends up in the garbage sooner or later 😊

It’s a BESY BY date. Not some magical expiration date. They put those dates on them so for instance, someone doesn’t use it 20 years later and they get sick from it and try and sue the company. By putting dates on them, it protects them from us. Just use the sniff test. I use things a year and 2 after the date. Heck, when we were cleaning out my grand parents house 5 years ago, I found a bottle of my Vidal Sassoon shampoo from when I was in high school back in the early 80’s. Guess what? I used the shampoo. My hair was great. Soap doesn’t expire. Lol

I did an amazing thing the other day. I had $100’s of dollars of nutrimetics in my bathroom that I hadn’t used, I brought them back in June 2023.
I looked at them and thought I’ve got to get rid of them but they cost a lot of money but I’m not going to use them but the money I’ve spent! . These are the arguments a recovering hoarder goes through.
So I contacted my friend who I went to the party with and asked her if she wanted them.

I tend to save old toothbrushes for cleaning. They come in so handy! I have one that I use to scrub the little bits on my hummingbird feeder.
Another that I use to scrub around the base of the faucet and the corners of the window sills where nothing else can get to.
Unfortunately, I now have a collection of about a dozen and didn't even think about it until now. I've become a hoarder of old toothbrushes lol. Fixing that now :)

Hi Dawn. I used to get terrible migraines, several a week. Wanted to just rip my head off my body, and some were so bad they made me throw up. I decided to eliminate foods that can trigger migraines from my diet. I experimented with foods one at a time. Turns out the biggest trigger for me was pork products. I eliminated all pork, and my migraines were GONE! I recommend this method for Tom so he can find out what triggers him. I started with wine, coffee, and all products with nitrates and nitrites. Then I found a study online about foods that produce inflammation in the body, and pork causes the red blood cells to fold up on themselves, preventing them from carrying the right amount of oxygen to the brain. It was when I read the details of this study, that I immediately eliminated pork, and it made all the difference for me. Sending hugs!

Letting go is fine but please dispose responsibly.
Try researching where you can donate still usable makeup and toiletries, where to bring expired meds like pharmacies, where you can dispose expired makeup and toiletries as some companies do take them back back for proper recycling or disposal, where to dispose empty containers and plastic like toothbrushes, even donating things like plastic caps to arts and crafts. It can be very tedious but it helps with not adding to the landfill.
Plus with the additional effort taken to do above, it really does sink in and makes you rethink your purchases including the packaging as well as buying excessive or unnecessary items. That’s what I personally realised to be work for me versus just trashing these in bags and bags for supposed recycling that we are fully aware do not get fully recycled at all.

I learned to make my own lotion bars, moving to soap, shampoo bars etc. So, you make what you need and don't buy stuff, which if you have ADHD like some do we forget we have stuff and then we buy more. Also, many times the expiry dates for lotions etc. are just a date and you can still use it. It forces you to buy new stuff instead of using it. Can you please do a garage declutter or tool decluttering video or series? You could even do it with Tom because that would be super helpful to learn! Especially for the husbands!

Dawn, you're the best! So grateful for you, your channel, and your podcast 🤍 Thank you for working so hard to help so many people with our belongings, homes, and lives. Enjoy the cookie dough, I'd be doing the same! 💯 Much love from the UK ❤

I am two months away from retirement (yay!) and I can’t wait to have time to fully declutter my house! It’s the first thing on my post retirement checklist. 😊. Thank you Dawn for showing me how much easier it is to keep a clean and tidy home when you have much less inventory!

I don’t care for one second if the package says I should eat the raw cookie dough or not. I’m definitely eating it. Sometimes, my cookie dough doesn’t even make it to the oven. Thanks for another great video. My decluttering/organizing/maintaining is a work in progress, but I am so happy to have found you right before Christmas last year. You basically saved my life!

Pausing for a bit of cookie dough in the midst of a declutterring project- now that’s a real life tip I can follow! ❤ 🍪❤️

I felt a little shade for Tom with the medicine cabinet. 🤣🤣 I totally feel you! I often find duplicates of items we had or a bunch of half used things. Thanks for sharing ❤

I have been eating raw cookie dough my whole life. My mother told me not to when I wad a child, my husband shakes his head at me when he catches me at it now, but it has never made me sick. I will never stop! Lol

I keep all of our personal items in his or her baskets in the closet. Hubby knows to look there first. I simplified my life by minimizing my products, and downgrading from Department store to Drugstore. Save tons of money.
