People post pro and con discussions of every piec e of evidence. The doc was already TEN hours long! People are expected to exercise some INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY and research some issues. My God people are lazy! You all expect everyone who creates any discussion of anything non-fiction to do all your work and spoonfeed you every singloe morsel of info. You have google, yahoo, bing, etc--USE THEM! So many people have researched every little detail that it has become so simple to find all the information! Sheesh, it does not take a rocket scientist.

    Why does everyone want to push the whole "cat burning" thing aside? There's a difference between hunting game & torturing a house pet. Everyone knows that there's a correlation between torturing animals and killing people.

      @Angel-oe7sg 7 лет назад +22

      +Isaiah Joe McGehee Fine I guess if I ever see someone killing a cat I'll just keep an open mind. Maybe I'll invite them over for tea, and we can go Christmas caroling together. There's no reason to fear them at all.

    • @Angel-oe7sg
      @Angel-oe7sg 7 лет назад +11

      ***** Yep just send all cat killers to jail, because that makes so much sense to you doesn't it?
      Nobody said he was guilty just because he killed a cat in the past. People look at what he's convicted for, see that he burned a cat alive, and their not surprised. Killing small animals for fun is about power he didn't do it on accident or for game.
      If you're already locked up for someone's death, but your past actions seem to lead up to that, then nobody's going to feel bad for you.
      It is innocent till proven guilty isn't it? Do you think the judge and jury have bad judgement?

      Most people do but childish pranks are rife with most children and Avery was not a very bright boy at any age. I adore cats. I think they are the most beautiful creatures to walk this earth but when we were children we suelled the dog onto them. I know people who use them as crab bait and others who toss them off bridges. It's horrible, it's outrageous, but not uncommon, and not sane, but most people grow out of it as they understand the world more.

    Being a legal nerd and justice seeker, After watching #MakingAMurderer I studied the court transcripts and the police interviews done by LE from both counties - for both Calumet and Manitowoc Counties in a non-biased way. I became a bit obsessed you could say. I had an inner need to get to the bottom of this case to understand the full scope outside of the MaM series. With that said, I still believe wholeheartedly that Steven Avery and Brenden Dassey are both innocent of the murder of Theresa Halbach and I'll explain...
    I believe that Bobby Dassey (Brenden's brother) and Scott Tadych (Dassey's step-father) are guilty. At one point I believed that Ryan Hillegas (Theresa's ex-boyfriend) killed her because he was stalking her and the cell phone records align with him harassing Theresa, logging into her voicemail and deleting a specific voicemail message. I still tend to believe Ryan Hillegas who stalked Theresa and Theresa's brother acted super sketchy during interviews with MaM interviews and law enforcement. He still may be guilty. All of the above (Ryan H, Bobby D and Scott T) all have motive and means to frame Avery. All of the above have access to the area and property where her bones were found. There was ZERO blood evidence of Theresa being in the house and not enough blood in the back of Theresa's RAV4 to call it a murder scene. No real murder scene was ever discovered in this case. Manitowoc county had $36 million reasons to get Avery back into jail because he was about to win a wrongful conviction suit previously overturned due to DNA evidence evidenceexoneration
    HOWEVER - I do not believe that Steven Avery is necessarily a good person for harming animals and threatening his cousin. I don't think he is a good person nor do I believe that he's intelligent. I simply don't believe that he's a murderer or rapist. I believe strongly that he was wrongly convicted. I don't believe that people should be praising the guy. I simply believe that justice has failed two innocent people...severely.
    End of rant...

    • @nikij83
      @nikij83 5 лет назад +10

      West Memphis 3 is a much harder trial. I'm on the fence on that case. The victims were terribly murdered and it is so traumatic. I do have strong positions against the ex-step-father of one of the boys (sorry, I forget his name). I believe he should and could still be investigated further. Based upon the circumstantial evidence, I don't believe the 3 convicted guys were guilty although they took the Alford Plea to be released from prison. I also believe LE failed in this case dramatically. LE had tunnel vision.
      That is a tough one. I haven't researched that case as much. Very good Q though. What is your take on the West Memphis 3 case?

    • @lovinghomescents
      @lovinghomescents 5 лет назад +6

      Yeah, I agree with you. The evidence of the car is really off, with different colors of the car, bumper, and rear light reflectors and even the way the door handles open (to the left vs straight up) per eveidence photos vs her by the Rav 4. The blood evidence is so blatantly tampered, no blood or DNA in the home. No marks on the head or footboard if tied/chained and fightinh for your life. No cast off, no spray, not a drop of blood on the mattress. So much is off with this case. The "spare" key which could have been removed from the home when the Sheriff was in it days before the car was found. The regular key is square btw. Tadych smiling during the vereditcs for both SA and BD. Him and Brian only alibi each other than in a RECORDED jail call Tadych denies even being on the property at all that day. Sooooo many lies, to cover lies. I'd love to see financial records on some of these guys to see if money "just appeared" in someone's bank account.

      nikilicious That's really interesting. Great insight. Thank you.
      But what about his constant calls to/for her and things like that? Isn't that suspicious? I feel like he probably has done some other horrible shit, just my opinion of him.
      But, the biggest problem is that we always get so caught up in "the mystery" and the investigation, that I feel like the thing that gets forgotten or left out is the victims themselves. To have your life snuffed out, unexpectedly, at a young age, on some random day just like any other....And in a violent and horrific way, none the less. Suddenly you're facing the afterlife, and whatever that entails (possibly bad) just seems so unfair, and feels to me like the thing that is usually the most overlooked, in most cases. Ya know? Thanx for your response again. Oh, and the phone calls thing. Lol. What do you say about that stuff? Thanx. ☺

    • @nikij83
      @nikij83 5 лет назад +5

      Johnny DiPP - what you're saying is true, that often we get caught up in the mystery. Teresa Halbach is a victim of a horrific crime gone unsolved. I don't know about other justice seekers/MAM fans, but I do know that Teresa was my reason for digging for truths and facts. She lost her life and it's terrible.
      I'm not sure what to make of the repeated phone calls of Avery. However, her former boyfriend Ryan Hillegas, was downright harassing her much more that day than Avery who had an appointment with her. Ryan was harassing her and has been known to be controlling and obsessive. Ryan is also the guy who broke into her phone and removed a specific voicemail. He admitted to that on trial.
      As to Avery's character - I don't think he's the most moral guy. I just don't believe he's a killer

The blood in the rav 4 is placed where it wouldn't make sense, why is none of his blood on the key, outside of the door or on the shift knob and steering wheel? Why would he put her body in the back of the rav 4? why would her bones be found in several different places,miles away from the bonfire? And not to mention where is the splatter in the garage from the gun shot. Along with why did it take several searches for them to find evidence and when it is discovered its found from the department that wasn't even supposed to be working the case anymore.

On that alone half of the evidence collected should have been tossed. Plus all of the blatant evidence tampering by the department, OJ would of loved to have all of that at his trial. Yet Manitowoc cops who were actually being deposed in Avery's lawsuit were not only allowed on the property but they found the biggest piece of evidence.
      If I were to guess who it was I would say Bobby Dassey. I think Scott Tadych involved himself by covering for Bobby. Having pictures of mutilated women and child porn doesn't automatically make him guilty but it is painting a picture of him and it's not good. The prosecution deliberately hid the fact that Bobby had that on his computer and hid it because he was their star witness. Pure and utter corruption.

    Regardless of how good or bad these people are, the police did not meet, in any way, their burden of proof nor did they begin the investigation or the trial with the presumption of innocence. Those two aspects of the judicial system are the foundations of fair practice and justice. Your opinions are meaningless - it's the evidence that matters - and the police and prosecutors have not been able to link Avery (and definitely not Brendan) to Teresa's death. Did Steve do it? I don't know and nor do you - and that is the point.

      We can know things. It's possible. But yes, I have to agree that its required to prove what you know. Just like I can just know the answer to a Geometry problem, but showing why I know the answer is every bit as important and knowing it. I know Avery did it. It's in his eyes, his behavior. I also know that means jack shit in a court of law. It's naive to think humans cant pick up on things without facts or words. You can read people. it's pretty easy.

      Yes, the trial, for the JURY should be started with the person being presumed innocent UNTIL proven guilty. However, the police and prosecution do not start with that presumption at all, nor should they. In fact, the police in an investigation MUST have some idea or presumption of guilt or innocence. That said, time and again we see police and the DA doing things they should not do (sometimes with malicious intent, other times simply due to incompetence). And it gets very infuriating seeing innocent people get railroaded, AND guilty as hell people either "get off" or crap like THIS happen, when it should have been pretty damn easy to just do their jobs and have a slam dunk case. It puts a cloud of stink on the entire process for EVERY case.... unfortunately.

    I didnt see it as a series promoting class warfare with a rich vs poor angle. To me it seemed like it was highlighting how the government abuses private individuals with impunity.
    Steven Avery had the money (because of his settlement) to hire the best legal defense available and he still could not win. Not because he was poor but because the government decided he was guilty before the trial started and bent the rules to make sure he was put behind bars.
    Regardless of whether he did it or not there was an insane amount of reasonable doubt there that should have produced a not guilty verdict.
    BTW, the cat, the masturbating in front of his cousin, running her off the road, and the robbery were all mentioned in the documentary. Maybe not to the extent they should have been, but it was there. I do agree though, that key parts of the trail were left out to serve a bias.
    Even with the information that was left out of the series ( which I've researched), I still think that Avery is not guilty. The DNA on the bullet was not tested properly, the police had already managed to put Avery's perspiration dna on the Halbach's key ( i dont see why they couldn't do the same to the hood of her car), ect, ect. I could to on and on but this comment is already way too long.

They pretty much said that the police blew it out of proportion even though he admitted to doing it. I'm sorry, but that is a violent felony, it's not "nothing". If this guy is so innocent and sweet why the hell did he do that? How many good people do you know that run people off the road and point guns at them? The documentary further tried to blame the victim as "instigating" it because she was spreading rumors about Steven.......REALLY?! rumors? THAT justifies running someone off the road and pointing a gun at them? Also no I don't care that the gun was unloaded, it's still just as much of a felony.
    They also played off the whole burned cat thing. Like he just "did is a joke and didn't realize what would happen". The cat DIED, it was horribly horribly burned to death. Buddy, none of your concerns address the key issues of: where was the crime committed? Where is the physical evidence that supports the assertion that the crime committed where they indicated it was (the garage or the room)? Why was the victim's car used to transport the body if the killing occurred in the trailer or the garage and the body was burned mere feet away? How was the body placed into the fire? In pieces or intact? If in pieces where are the tools that were used to dismember the body? Where are the ropes, handcuffs and other ligatures used to bind, torture and rape the victim? Where is the spatter? The vaginal fluid? The hair? The sweat? The semen? I have been to scenes of violent homicide and there is evidence everywhere. Bodies in motion cast fluids in all directions and at various distances...
    Law Enforcement had eight days on the property? They should have an ocean of physical evidence. Where is it?
    You know what I think? I think the DA is responsible for the victim's death.. He was shown to be deviant and predatory. Or how bout the ex boy friend? Creeper much? Or the roommate that didn't report the victim's disappearance for four days?

    I watched the show and loved it. Didn't think of race politics or rich vs poor once. Why make this about that Steven? ? All the stuff he did was talked about in the documentary (Cat killing, pointing gun at sister etc). what the hell are u on about ? Glazed over maybe but discussed which calling that massively dishonest film making isn't fair. Not mentioning the dna on the hood is the only thing that should have been mentioned.
    I think he's innocent. I don't see how they could clean up a crime scene so meticulously well and yet leave car keys and shells lying around. The police who found the evidence we know had a conflict of interest... so many things give reasonable doubt. Unless I'm missing something huge, the guilty verdict was a joke... very open to correction though. Steven does make a good point about the cool aid, although he is clearly obsessed with identity politics to see this doc as a support of BLM ...wtf?

    I think Steven Crowder's life revolves around politics and social culture too much to the point where he will tie anything he sees on TV into politics. I didn't see any sort of BLM "ties" or timing as to why this documentary came out. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't, but I think it would be good for Steven to not watch TV and see it through the lens of all of this political stuff. Yeah Avery threw a cat into a fire when he was a younger and we've all done stupid shit when we were young. (Well, maybe not that bad, but I'm sure all sorts of people have done shit they later regretted)... but I don't think that means that he's guilty of this mastermind plot to kill the woman photographer and make it the "perfect crime" such that the prosecution just has only a bunch of weak evidence to work with to convict him.

  • @docoluv9

    My biggest reason for doubting his guilt was what was his motivation when he was getting his life back and had a multi million dolla lawsuit he was fixing to win. The cops lives would have been in ruins as well as the city so that's why i think he was innocent... But one other question is where's all the blood. No blood neer the bullet that appeared after the shed was searched thoroughly several times. No blood or dna on his home and the key wasnt there in nov. As well a the officers that was being sued were the ones who found all the evidence that they did have, even tho they were ordered not to investigate. A lot of things don't add up. A hell of a lot. Putting a mentally chalenged kid in interrogation for several hrs. Alone with no gaurdian Several times is against the law and the story was fed to him by the cops and he told them and his mom several times he wasn't involved. He just told them what they wanted to go home. Before brandens verbally fed confession they had not 1 ioda of anything to even charge steven. First mistake both of them made. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER TALK TO COPS ALONE....have an attorney present at all question sessions.

    It dosen't matter if he did it or not, he should be released because the police tampered with the evidence , they should release him and the victim's family should sue the police department for not doing their job properly !!! It's not about wether he did it or not, it's about if the prosecutors can prove without a reasonable doubt that he did it, and it's not the case. The only way you could say that he did is that if you've seen him and were present at the crime scene, I'm not saying that he didn't do it ( for any trolls that will try to use this argument against me) , I'm just saying that the police didn't follow the proper procedure .

    The ironic thing is that this guy speaks about certain things as being "Fact" when they are just allegations. For instance the cat situation is a fact it was proven. However his sister accusing him of masturbating in front of her car was NOT a FACT. It was simply an allegation that had no evidence behind it. The whole sexual molestation thing was also just an Allegation and was never proven. Yet you quote it as though it where a FACT.
    There's also an issue with the DNA on the hood of Teresa's car. DNA can last for many, many years, and Teresa Halbach had direct contact with Steven Avery many times before this happened. Meaning that his DNA could have gotten there days, months, or even years before the murder ever took place. When it comes down too it, there are too many holes in the case to even say for sure who really killed Teresa. Alot of this so called "Evidence" hinges on the confession from Brendan, however the confession was coerced and thus is not reliable. Thus all the evidence that relies solely on the confession is unreliable.
    The only thing left is then for the prosecutor to attack Steven Avery's character. It was quite telling to see how many of the cops involved in the 1985 case still to this day believe that Steven Avery committed that crime, despite the proof he did not. They even interviewed some of the officers who outright stated that despite the DNA evidence that exonerated Avery, they still thought he was guilty of the rape. Hence there was and still is a large bias among the law enforcement in the Steven Avery murder case.
    The point being that there are far too many unknown circumstances in this case and thus you can not rightfully speak of Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey as being guilty.

    It looks more like a bullet which was fired into a scrap lot car for target practice, than a person, doesn't it?

The guy did 18 years in prison for a rape the cops knew, and was proven, was a fit-up. He was days away from a $36 million settlement against the cops who fitted him up when they stuck the murder on him. The SAME COPS he was suing 'found' the evidence that got the murder conviction. Not the same police department but the same cops - James Lenk, Andrew Colburn and Kenny Peterson. BTW the film makers did mention that Ken Kratz was involved in 'Sexting' and sexually harassing numerous women but they didn't mention that he is a drug addict, which he is in fact. They didn't even 'skim over' it. Yeah sure, what's that got to do with the evidence in the murder case any more than a cat from 23 years previous? How about defense attorney Len Kachinsky? You kinda didn't even 'skim over' his despicable conduct and conspiracy with the prosecution. I don't know how anybody in their right mind could watch this documentary and not see how the man was fitted up TWICE. • @TheCarlnox
      @TheCarlnox 8 лет назад +8

      +Broc Seigneurie They are speaking of evidence missing from the documentary, not missing in the sense that it was found after the trial. The fact is that the Trial lasted 6 weeks and the trial portion of the doc lasted about 6 hours. Thus there was no possible way to include every tiny bit of info one way or another. Kratz has said the Non blood evidence was sweat, though the Manitowac county forensic lab was only able to conclude it was not from blood.
      I always laugh about the phone and purse contents being found in his burn barrel. The whole court and prosecution pretends that it would be IMPOSSIBLE for someone to plant those items in a burn barrel. You could literally accomplish that IMPOSSIBLE task under the cover of darkness within a few minutes in the middle of the night.
      The film was accurate that there is no physical evidence to say that Teresa was ever in Steven Avery's home or killed in his garage. Her blood was found in her car, and on the suspicious bullet.
      I have heard speculation that the bullet was a ballistic match to Avery's rifle. First off I can't find the actual paperwork on this evidence and there are reports that the claim is false. This also excuses the fact that it would not be odd for an Avery family member to barrow his gun. This is common practice in rural hunting areas. Especially if you were under 18 and prevented from owning your own. We know from the movie that there were several youths on the property. It has been suggested by Avery that his own brothers are possible suspects. "Borrowing" Steve's gun would be a convenient way of sealing your frame up job from the Avery Brother's perspective.
      It also excuses the fact that the police had his gun in their evidence locker for months prior to the bullet being found. I've heard Kratz suggest that it is impossible for investigators to plant the bullet. However in a sheriff's department with only a few individual officers and employees, the evidence lockers are not overly difficult to get access to. I come from a small town in NY and have been in the evidence locker of my local police station 3 times. I was invited in by patrol officers. The locker is open for anyone that has access to the station in my town. Thus it would not be difficult to fathom that the police could have had the opportunity to gather a spent bullet from Avery's gun by borrowing the gun from the evidence locker.

    I saw it and all I got from it was that he didn't get a fair trial.
    Never made an assessment of his guilt or innocents for myself because I do not know all the facts. I only know what the media reports and what the documentary wants me to know.

    So your argument is that because he most likely did it then it's not a big deal that the police and courts stomped all over this Americans RIGHTS ! That seems to go against everything that you believe and speak out about on your platform. As someone who has lost my right to defend my wife and child because of a similar situation ( not murder ) but a felony I strongly disagree with ur stance. Cops and courts took advantage of me at 17 and I'm 38yrs of age and still paying for it. You can't have it both ways , Either we have rights ( like a right to competent defence and a fair trial ) or we don't have those rights. We can't just say hey you most likely did this so get over you being railroaded into a cell because the courts and cops are incompetent. Might want to rethink that one Crowder...

      I'm sorry that happened to you man. Don't they have something like a clean slate sort of thing for when you're legally an adult in America? So mistakes from teenagers don't haunt them for the rest of their lives?
      After reading your post I absolutely agree that stomping over citizens rights isn't a Crowder thing, but how I understand the video, that's not what he did.
      The problem with the series is how the makers used everything the police did wrong (which it was) as a foundation to make the guy come of as a likable innocent victim of circumstance, while withholding the info that makes him look bad.
      So in short; the cops screwed up. But the filmmakers are using that screwup to let the viewer forget about the dark side of the suspect.
      Something like that. I am not American by the way so I might get some things wrong about how the US law works.

      @@borisbadenov9863 no information was "withheld", we all saw the trial. He was *presumed* guilty, a clear violation of The United States Constitution. Try reading it some time. @StevenCrowder

      @@borisbadenov9863 I don't know where you live, but here in these United States, the *presumption* is innocence. The burden of proof is always on the prosecution. The defense attorney can simply discredit the evidence, the DA, the Police Department, or even the jury and, per the 14th amendment, the defendant is entitled to a retrial. That's to say that, because Manitowoc PD was involved in the search on Avery's property while there was a pending lawsuit against them, the case should have been thrown out. That's how it's supposed to work. Personally, I would rather live among rapists and murderers than live in a police state where cops act with impunity.
