i ordered the 168 Ohuhu set and while it was a massive purchase and I’m kinda freaking out about how expensive it was, this vid is making me so excited to get them and I’m sure it’ll be worth it haha
Honestly, I got the 168 set as my (second) starter set after a much smaller other brand and I'm very happy. I dont use all the colors all the time, but I've found that as my favorite colors get used up, I have more similar options to chose from (though a smaller set may mean a cheaper replacement, I do like having ten different cool greys to chose from)
Ohuhu's are wonderful and, as far as alchohol markers go, a great price. However, my personal favorites are the Arrtx double ended *brush* alchohol markers. the brush blends things SO SO smoothly. However, a little more expensive (starting around 40+ for the large color sets) Definatley reccomend them if you want to get into alchohol markers!
Took me 4 month's to mentally recover from ordering Copic Sketch set A, B and C 72pc's xD Now i have to mentally prepare to order from ordereing ink refills in bulk.
Great video! I love markers. My tip is if you want to add a shadow but you don't have a darker tone of whatever color you're using, use it's complementary color in a similar value, then put the original color on top of that to blend them together and now you have shadow! This can take a few layers to get it just right, but it gives a lot of depth if that's what you're looking for 😄
Love these tips! I love alcohol markers but have lately been on a Posca pen kick!!! I can’t stop doing videos about them on my channel! I just love any art supplies that creates a clean smooth color!!! I love that alcohol based can do certain things too! Like layer and blend!!!
I have learned so much from watching your videos, Lucid. Thank you for sharing your talent. Paper makes a big difference in both types of markers. It would be nice for viewers that didn't know this to see a test with water-based markers on watercolor paper and alcohol markers on paper made especially for alcohol markers. I recently started using alcohol paper and was about to give up when I heard of an alcohol paper that is as thin as printer paper, but it has a special coating. Wow! It made all the difference in the world.
Love that strawberry girl, she is soo cute! And you did a great job on her hands holding the strawberry!! It's so relaxing and satisfying watching you color, I love it!
Happy Good Friday Lucid I have the Ohuhu 320 set, 48 pastel set,36skin tone set and the 72 brush set. Also I still have a few of my Prisma color markers and some few copic sketche some that came in a set also I have some caliart and some aspire color markers when they first can out on the market. I would love to see more videos like this one it helps to teach old lady how use her markers better I’ve watch others but I love you Method better thank you some much for sharing bless you♥️♥️🌹
It definitely help to know how well a certain paper type handles the marker before attempting blending. With the cheap imitation touch, I had to figure out I needed to start with the colorless blender before adding the colors I wanted to blend. Medium type for the type of marker will make a difference too, thanks. 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
This was SO helpful. Thank you for all of the tips. I bought the Ohuhu set. I have been making art with watercolor, acrylics and inks for over 30 years but have never used alcohol inks. I am excited to explore this medium. Thank you!
I'm thrilled to hear that the tips were helpful for you, and congratulations on getting the Ohuhu set! That's such a fantastic journey to have over 30 years of experience. Exploring alcohol inks is a wonderful addition to your artistic repertoire. If you ever have questions or want to share your creations, feel free to do so.
Thanks so much for the comparison to the water-based markers! I've come from water-based markers and I used to be kind of scared of alcohol-based markers, but lately I've been finding that alcohol markers are somehow better than water-based markers, and I don't know why, but you showed why! So thanks so much!
You're very welcome! I'm glad the comparison was helpful for you. If you ever have more questions or if there's anything else you'd like to know about markers, feel free to ask.
Thank you! I'm delighted to hear that you found the video helpful. I'm glad my voice adds to your experience haha. If there's anything specific you'd like to see in future videos or any questions you have, feel free to let me know.😊🎨
So nice and refreshing to see how different marker brands with blending and shading. I haven't touched mine as much as I did back in school, but it's always fun trying something new or returning to an art medium that you loved growing up too. Thank you for sharing! ^^
I've been a bit unmotivated to make art. I usually do digital art, but I feel like I just enjoy it more when I do art on paper. I think I might try to get some alcohol markers, maybe it will help me get back into drawing :)
So my bday is next week, my mom got me a practice set of azure markers a few days ago, so far im loving them, but im probably still gonna get myself the Holy Grail of marker sets with my birthday money. (the 300+ of Ohuhu) i might wait til Christmas tho and get something else for my birthday. Maybe gauche paint? Idk ill figure it out.
have you experimented with erasing border lines around the character's hair and body to let the marker color become the border? You can also pick a light source in your drawing to decide which border lines to keep. keep the border lines on the left side of the character, but erase those on the right side where the light source is for example. the border lines become the basis for a blended shadow.
Thank you, sueduggan4072! I really appreciate your kind words and support. Everyone's journey in art is unique, and I'm sure you're doing amazing things in your own way. Thanks for being my number 1 fan! 😊
Hi! Thank you so much for this! Can you please tell me what are the Arteza Fineliner markers that you are using at the end of the video, please? Are they alcohol or water based? Do they give crisp lines? I have Stylefile alcohol markers, and whatever the paper I use (marker paper, watercolour paper, mixed media paper, etc.), I NEVER get crisp outlines to my drawings. Thank you!
i only use mixed media and watercolour paper for alcohol markers if its the only paper in the house, they do work but its way too expensive to use markers on paper that is going to eat up so much ink
Hey Lucid Neema, my name is Sydnee Ford, and I really like drawing and art as well and I am planning to do some drawing videos soon and I don't know how to start, How to film, and edit, and stuff like that and I really need some tips to become great like you. Anyways, love your videos.
I'm still amazed they have spare nibs, refills for their ohuhu markers 51 colors so far only $4.99 and u can refill for 30 something times and anyone who looking to get set id recommend eBay that where I got my 216 for $90 and had swatch cards and sheet protector other tip for bleed thru is the crescent render sketchbook Jerry art ramama has them for $11.99 or a watercolor paper behind ur sketchbook paper or sheet plastic cover u can get for cheap if hope it helps Second when ur color with with markers do light to dark first lay ur first color down and second layer will help with streaks along with small circles will help blend colors other thing colorless blender will only lighten and lift color not blend colors to together so it's best to use feather like strokes or circles blending a similar color into each other
Thanks for sharing these awesome tips! Your advice on getting marker sets on eBay, using a crescent render sketchbook for bleed-through, and blending tips are super helpful. Thank you!
I love your videos so much!😍💙💜 I really enjoy the videos on art supplies. It would be great if you could make another using only blue, pink, yellow etc colors. I also loved the video on skin tones. Maybe you could make another one on how you draw and color clothes? Especially blending the right colors for clothing is really hard! Thank you for being such a big inspiration!🤗💙💜
Hey I forgot to subscribe but I’ve watched you’re videos for while now and I have a question I use masters touch alcohol markers and would they work about the same I’ve had them for about a month I just got into using them and I was just curious is it would be about the same :)?
I got three copic markers to try out back in January and decided eh not rlly my thing but I came back to them the other day and one is DEAD I DIDNT PUT THE CAP ON ALL THE WAY THEYRE TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THIS🤦♀️🤦♀️
Very interesting, but you know that's not how you blend water-based markers, right? You don't have to insist that much, because it's wetter you just pass a few times, don't saturate the paper.
Thank you for the tip! I appreciate the insight on blending water-based markers. It's always great to learn different techniques, and I'll definitely give that a try.

I saw someone use clear gesso on coloring pages etc to stop the bleed through before they used alcohol markers it worked!

Update: 2 years later Ohuhu has refills!! Not for all though, but they do have ink now so you can drip refill or pull out the nib to refill :)
I just got the Masters touch set from hobby do you have a review for them yet? Also Thank you so much for the tips. I’ve learned a lot as a beginner !

Definitely using the awesome tips :)
Ohuhu has refills now which is exciting not every colour but they are trying to expand it
It's great to see them expanding their options.
So beautiful! What song is playing while you’re coloring the three women?

Yes, a bit of the other color stays on until you wipe it off.
