I absolutely LOVE alcohol markers and they are my "go to" medium. I own Copics, and I love your tips...all great tips! I find that for me, the biggest learning tip was to not blend so much. In the beginning, I wanted everything to blend smoothly. Then I got brave and added much darker colors for my accents and shadows, and sometimes, I leave the shadows a little bolder (not so blended). POW! Like your flowers, it really makes those crevices pop and brings out the dimensionality of things. Thanks SO much for sharing your tips! Love your gorgeous flowers!
I was exactly the same Brenda, I absolutely love some 'harsher' edges in my shadows especially in flowers as it makes them look way more realistic. And I overblended for years lol. thanks so much for your lovely visit here today, Crafty Hugs Tx
This was very helpful. I struggle with this quiet a bit and it's just different when somebody explains it in a calm way instead of me trying to figure out what people do when I watch their regular sketching videos for example. Now, it will propably be easier thanks to you!
I liked the tip where you take a lighter color and pick up some of a darker color. And then use this mid color to blend. I wanna try that. I also like how you use the colorless blender to lift color. Thanks!
Both of your roses are gorgeous, beautiful. I can imagine how long one actually takes and since you love colouring, that is not a difficulty for you. I love colouring too, so perfect. The tip about shadow that does not match was surprizing and I'm so i glad you shared it and the one about stamping again the whole image. Brilliant and fantastic results. Thank you, Therese. 🥰💖🇨🇦
This has been very helpful and informative. I struggle with using my alcohol markers and getting a realistic look. My flowers usually look overdone and muddy. I’ll practice your tips. Thanks so much.

@@lostinpaper this was so helpful…and the bonus tip- INCREDIBLE!!! Why didn’t I think of that rather than hand drawing the images again? Duh 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you so much for an excellent tutorial!
OMG how lovely are your flowers! Thanks for the tips... they address my 'heavy hand' and 'over-working' the coloring. I am a bit impatient and must slow down and enjoy coloring rather than thinking I'm not that good so slap dash the colors down, so I really appreciate your reinforcing tips.... and of course, I could watch you color for hours....!!! Thanks again!
Great tips! I always forget to keep my stamps in my misti so I can stamp over the coloured image. Got to work on that because it does make a huge difference. Thanks for the video! 😊
Fabulous tips! I really like that u added in more of the darker colors for shading. They looked great before, but then that really took them next level! Thank you!
Wow this is gorgeous , first time I see this . I’m new in making cartes . Wow thanks so much showing us how to colour and the way to do the shading , very interesting . I’ll try this for sure
Thanks for the tips. I am really not into coloring much but Altenew had two sets of the alcohol markers on sale for 50% off. I could not pass that up. :)
Great video thank you, I am new to alcohol markers I am more use to paints pencils but treated myself to 48 of the Spectrum Noir markers and love them. This video should hopefully help me. Xxxxxx
There is a bit of a learning curve to them, but if you are used to paints and pencils then it will be hopefully easier for you. One thing I do know, is that you will have FUN lol.
@@lostinpaper I bought some isopropyl earlier for extra fun. Haha. I had some for other uses but had run out, I can’t wait to have a play tomorrow when it arrives. Xx
Thank you so much for this demo on alcohol markers I have used them for awhile but picked up several great tips on using these markers! The way you broke this down made it easy to understand and apply to our own projects! Thanks!
Beautiful is right, Therese! I like using the tip-to-tip technique with my Copic markers...it saves me from having to buy "every shade" of a particular color :) I also love how you used your colorless blender to add highlights to the flower petals...so pretty! Thank you so much for taking the time to share these techniques with us...your card is GORGEOUS!!! xx
Fantastic!!! I loved the tip of using the Obsidian ink at the end. And using the tip method when the variation is too big between 2 markers... I find this is the case between Wisteria and Hydrangea... can't wait to try this tip with those colors! Thanks so much for this video.
Glad it was helpful Lisa! The Altenew colours are absolutely fabulous but some of them have quite a variation between them and the tip to tip is great to help with this!
I bought them from Scrap Dragon in Australia but apparently there is a similar version on Amazon (but I don't know what the quality is like). I really like them, but the magnets arent' as 'strong' as the MISTI ones. Here is the link bit.ly/2L6vB4w
I only have cool grey alcohol markers and use these often on flowers. It’s a great way to practise finding out how they interact with each other. I’m not sure if I’m enthralled with copic but I do like the cool grey tones. Your video was extremely helpful. I don’t have the colourless one but I’ll get it.
Yes, the colourless blender is a great 'tool', I use it like an eraser when I go out of the lines, I just touch it against the colour, wait for it to dry, and just keep repeating this until it's gone.
Thank you. Great demo, great tips. I arrived here from Altenew’s Thursday newsletter regarding podcast. I don’t have technology for the podcast, but they mentioned your videos. I have just subscribed to your utube, excited to have more resources. I’m new to alcohol markers, not to Altenew. I own 24 colors now from Altenew, but do not understand how they number their markers, so I pick the wrong colors sometimes thinking Im going darker. If you know of a place to understand how Altenew numbers the color markers & could advise insight, very appreciative. Thanks again for the great tips, including re-stamping at the end.
Hi Dena, a BIG Welcome to you, I am so very happy you are here! I adore the Altenew markers too, but agree with you when it comes to the numbering system so I have actually swatched mine out on a piece of cardstock instead and use this as a visual reference. Altenew has a free download swatch at the store (you can find it linked where you buy the markers). Also if you are familiar with their inks by name you may prefer to purchase the little 'name' dots to stick on top of the markers, that may also help work out which ones are lighter and darker from the ink families. As I am colouring I keep a scrap piece of cardstock beside me to touch the marker to and that helps me see the actual colour as I am creating.... I hope this may help you, looking forward to seeing you here again real soon. Crafty hugs, Therese
Oh my gosh Theresa thank you so much. I do the same thing with swatching. I will see if I can download, glad to know. Thank you taking the time to answer. Therese. I love your card , your coloring everything it’s gorgeous. I too love coloring with alcohol markers. I have so many different sets. Just ordered more Altenew. My question is. How do you pick the color to go back in and high light the rose with. I would never of thought of using the purple color. Well hun. Your days are getting back to normal more. They are even going to star flying planes ✈️ to Uk from one city. I think Brisbane. Stay. Well Therese and your family. I know of people that have had the shot still caught covid at work. Can’t believe it’s halfway through October already. I better get cracking on more cards . Enjoy your week , walking with your fur babies, making cards. Coloring. Till next time Big hug 🤗 🤎🍁🤎🍂🤎🍁🤎
One way to choose the shading colour is to draw it out on a scrap piece of paper like I did and hold it against the image, otherwise you could colour on a scrap and add the shading colour to see if it will work. I don't own 1000's of colours so once I worked out which one worked for me I usually keep going back to that one (all smoke and mirrors my friend). And Yes, to flights and travel, things are looking up, though we know we have some hard times ahead, they have to come. I hope that if I do get the virus that it happens before my parents get here next year, though it's great to know that we are all fully vaxed. Hope you have fun making some Chirstmas cards, Yes, it's already October lol. Hugs Tx
You are obviously quite an artist. You should take the time to do your own lineart - you clearly have the ability. Thank you for helping us learn to shade with markers - we appreciate your video!
Beautiful card and awesome tips! I always seem to run out of room when colouring the tiniest petals with three shades. They end up just being dark! Frustrates me to no end.
On the tiny petals I do not bother using too many colours or doing a lot of shading, sometimes a 'touch' of the darkest colour without the extra blending is all you need.
Hi Terese, I had to subscribe to you again. Not sure why but I guess you were lost in your paper somewhere...Now I will have to go back and watch all your latest videos. Regards Liz.

Yes, there is definitely a learning curve. Are they worth much 2nd hand? Because a friend of mine sold hers only to rebuy them but was more specific about what colours she chose the second time round. If you like pencils then Copics are a great way to add a base of colour and then use your pencils overtop to add the shading (makes the process much quicker). But if they aren't bringing you joy and just frustration maybe you are right to focus elsewhere... I know I would be lost without mine lol.
I bought them here in Australia but apparently they are also 'somewhere' on Amazon though the quality apparently isn't as good.
