Good video, I always enjoy watching. I have a few tips Id like to share that I have learned from taking several marker classes. 1- To get less streaks you need to do multiple layers, that allows the fibers of the paper to become saturated with the color. 2- when using gray for shading another way is to put the gray down 1st allow it to dry and then do the fill color over the area. 3 to make sure you have good coverage the back of the paper should also show what you colored in a solid look. 4 I know you didn't cover using the colorless blender but just a tip the colorless blender should be thought of as a bleach pen not really a blender. When trying to remove a mistake, press the colorless blender at the edge of the mistake and in a pressing motion pushing the color back toward the line. It also helps have piece of paper under and move to a clean area. if having a hard time removing dark colors you may have to use this method several times

Very informative video, thank you Jennifer and Steve! Loved how little Rose lifted her head occasionally, as if to say "could you keep the noise down please - dog trying to sleep", ha ha.
Great video! My favorite was #3, and I learned the most from #2,3, and #4 - I'm a brand new alcohol marker user, mainly to use as a base for colored pencils! Thank you for all your hard work!
This was sooooo helpful! I certainly didn’t know that there was so much use for grey tones! #3 is definitely my fav but I love the look of texture in #4!! I’m a beginner and you have me now thinking of becoming a member! Thanks so much!!

I’ve just recently opened my eyes to the use of mixed media (marker base + colored pencil blend). This video is hands down the most informative tutorial on several ways to utilize your markers! Gunna save this for later reference, thank you!

I just got my first set of alcohol markers a few days ago. It’s a small 48 color ohuhu set from Amazon. I googled “how to color with alcohol markers” and found your video. This video was so very helpful! I have been coloring just to color, very bold and full. I love coloring mandalas and I’m currently coloring Crayolas mindful meditations mandala coooring book(got it from Target I think). I started using prismacolor colored pencils, I just love them, always have. Then I saw a video from other artists I follow and they were using alcohol markers and I love the way the colors look on paper. So I got myself some. Now I have all these mediums and want to know how to color the way you guys do. lol I’m 32yo and I’m a newbie with this. So thank you for providing this video. I really love the multi media approach. I liked number 2 for how good it looks with such a fast technique. I also liked number 4 because the marker base makes the pencil work go faster and I'm a sucker for colored pencil texture.
Hi Jennifer, Thanks so much! I enjoyed #2 the best as I love shading. #3 is a runner-up! I'm going to start using my white detail pens more now also. I also love a good thick cardstock. Love the #2 and #4. I did not know that grey could boost coloring and coloring with pencil over ink could be done. Love it. I joined the free coloring bliss.
something i learned in highschool was to use gesso on coloring books to make the pages more durable to hold liquids such as water colors. just let it dry before using the paper and don’t forget to make sure its clear.
Hi--I've been an Academy Member for some months now and love it! Thank you for a fascinating lesson on alcohol markers!! I just got my set of 320 Ohuhu and have NOT swatched them---but organized them by color. Not easy in the bag they come in, as each marker seems to ''resent' you putting it next to another one--and, so, shoves it aside! LOLOL! I never thought of using gray for shading my Ohuhu Alcohol Markers---seems like a lot of work (just finding the right shades)--but it has a lovely shading effect, N0. 3 is the most dynamic----but No. 4 would probably be easier for me, as I'm used to working with colored pencils! Thanks again for a lovely, fun lesson. Lynn in NYC
My fave is 3 but I learned a wealth of knowledge from 2 the Greys. Thank you! I'm definitely gifting myself a year membership to the academy for Christmas!
Thanks for such great teaching techniques! I was torn between 3 & 4, then when you held it up for the camera from that viewpoint 3 really stood out for the shading. I learned a lot about the gray technique and also never thought to add the pencils on top of the markers. I just discovered your channel and am watching a ton of videos! I love your vibe and you are a wonderful teacher. I can’t wait to get the Ohuhu markers, I’m just getting back into card making and scrapbooking after 15 years of my health keeping me from it. I found your page because I was trying to decide between Tombow and alcohol markers. After watching you I now know what I want!
Hello Jennifer I learn a lot from # 3and #4 as well , it turn out pretty neat. I love it. Purple is my favorite color too. 😊Thanks for sharing. God bless you!
I liked #3 look wise but learned the most from #2. I knew about using grays for lowlights but how to blend and which tone to use was really helpful. I'm working on this tomorrow. 😊
Loved this video, thank you! I learnt a lot from #2,3 and 4! I think posca pens work alright on top of pencil ❤ I'm yet to find a good white gel pen. I did like jelly roll but they dry out very fast.
I’ve found your videos again after giving up coloring for a few years. I just got several sets of Ohuhu and needed help figuring out blending thank you!!!
I'm torn between #3 and #4 as well! Very awesome and informative video. I recently joined the coloring academy and am so excited to learn more about coloring!
So number 3 is my favorite, but I like all of them! And I learned the most from your demonstration of #2. I was not familiar with using grays for shadows. Thank you for doing this video!
I loved this tutorial Jennifer. I hardly use my Blick alcohol markers because blending with them is so much more difficult than colored pencils. I think my favorite is #3, however I learned a lot from the gray shading in #2. In #4 when you use the markers as a base layer, can you use paraffin oil to blend the pencils after you are finished with the pencil blending? Thank you for all the knowledge you share!🥰
Thanks for the tip using a book to keep track of markers you are using on a design. I stamp and keep track on a separate sheet of paper that always gets lost.
i learned the most about using the grey's. i like number three the best. i like that the bottom of the icing is a bit lighter. i feel it gives a break line between icing and cup. otherwise it's just dark all the way through the middle of the icing to the middle of the cup. great video! you are an excellent teacher! 💜
Cupcake #4 is my favorite and I learned something from all the cupcakes as I am a senior beginner. I'm still looking for a decent affordable set of alcohol markers, I found a set of 6 markers at one of our local thriftstores that I've been using a bit but they are not very good or easy to use. Will definitely keep watching your amazing and informative videos.
My favorite color technique is the 3 tones combo. It looks very vibrant. I didn't know about the mix media technique. A nice and good learning experience overall. Thank you!
My favourite is no. 3…..but it is not an easy choice. However, I learned the most from no. 2, warm and cool grey shading. This was a helpful and fun video. Thank you. And…. happy Birthday, Jennifer.!
Loved the tutorial. If I were new to coloring, I would have found it all extremely helpful. But personally I like #4 the best in that I have more control over the outcome. However, I find that when I work on coloring pictures, I apply all of the techniques you showed and more. So it’s so true it really is just the tip of the iceberg in learning to color with markers and colored pencils. But you did really well in getting those most important basics across in your video. For example in expanding more techniques using markers and colored pencils, I usually use white colored pencil and a lighter version of the base marker color but with colored pencils for the white highlights after using all three marker techniques. I also use a colorless blender sometimes to pick up some of the marker in those highlighted areas before applying the lighter colored pencils in order to have more impact. I don’t have to use white gel pen as highlights that way because the colored pencil stands out nicely on top of the marker alone. Also, I seamlessly blend the colored pencil work and the marker work together with the lighter color of the marker but with colored pencil. And if it still looks like I’ve used colored pencil, I get out a colorless blender and/or a colorless alcohol marker and melt them together. In order to make my objects appear more 3D, I tend to put shading toward the base of a portion of an object if the direction of light allows. For example, at the base of the frosting near the cupcake paper, I would add a bit of shading, too. That way, it looks less like a cutout and more rounded like how frosting does in real life. Please know that was no burn. What I’m talking about is s bit more advanced as I’m sure that you get into in your other videos people pay for to see. I’m just pointing out why I apply all the techniques and then why I personally like #4 best when I do a bit more with the colored pencils for a certain look I’m going for by using mixed media. The way it turns out for me is a flawless look without blotchy marker lines and without the texture of the colored pencil coming through. They both somehow work together this way in order to bring about a kind of cohesion I’m going for instead of being left with an odd aftereffect of it being obvious that two medias were being used. However, some people really love that look and have mastered it. And that’s wonderful. This is just my way. We all just have our own way of doing things because of a certain look we are trying to bring about for our own enjoyment. Again, what you showed here is an excellent beginner’s course as you said. Truer words could not have been spoken. So extremely helpful. Also, I just love how pleasant you are in your videos. A spoonful of sugar certainly does help the medicine go down. Hahahaha! Thanks so much for freely sharing some of your tips and tricks with us. It means so much to a lot of us out here.
I think I would choose cupcake nr. 4 but bc I'm a beginner in colouring and using markers, I guess I just start with just the basics and work myself up from there.. It will be a journey for sure! :D
They all look wonderful, but I like the mixed media one the best. I am so happy to be in the Coloring Academy and the version before it (I can’t remember what it was called - it’s a migraine day!). I’ve learned so much from you!
I'm glad you did this video cause I love using markers cause of the pigment they have but my coloring books are double sided. I have heard that the prismacolor coloring pencils have good pigment but I can't afford them.
Went to purchase the flower book you showed at the start of your video, looks like a book I would love, however postage to Australia is $70 :( unfortunately too expensive - would love to purchase the book if cheaper shipping/postage becomes available xx
@coloringbliss can you please tell me what the white milk thing you mixed colors on was? Tombow used to sell a blender pad, but i can't find it, and I'm not sore what to use in replace of it. Thank you.
Do you have a best budget alcohol markers on Amazon? So many choices and with my budget I'm trying to stay under $40 and choose best option. I have Star Joy pencils and Aen Art gels now and need to replace my alcohol markers that are awful
Awesome i have the small victories book n buying two i never ever thought of i always pick my favorite of the two or i rip my pages out. I trim them nicely...im nowhere near as good as you ....any good coloring books to get you recommend?? Been enjoying doing very tiny detailed photos .. went through a really awesome big square book recently and it topped every bok uve ever had.. ill fubd it n comment the author and name
I have asked this once before but does the book that you recommended for the markers, work for the other 320 set? I bought the book not realizing that I don’t have that specific line of ohuhu markers.
Yay! I was the winner for the 320 set! I am so grateful for Coloring Bliss! You have taught me a lot for a beginner colorist such as myself!
Congratulations to you!
Congratulations!!! How lucky you are to win this beautiful set of markers!
Wow that is lucky! Congratulations

Love the use of the grey. Could you do a grisaille technique with the alcohol markers?
Awesome video. Cupcake 3 and then 2 are my faves😊❤
My favourite is no. 3…..but it is not an easy choice. However, I learned the most from no. 2, warm and cool grey shading. This was a helpful and fun video. Thank you. And…. happy Birthday, Jennifer.!
Didn't know about using grays. Thanks!
So much learning for me here thank you 🙏
My favourite is #4
I think I would choose cupcake nr.
Thank you Jennifer
Hi Jennifer, I love all your videos and reviews. I live in Scotland, UK. Do you sell your books on Amazon UK?
I love it!! Thanks
Great video, thank you
Glad you enjoyed it.
Looking forward to it, Jennifer! 😀 ❤
I'm glad you did this video cause I love using markers cause of the pigment they have but my coloring books are double sided. I have heard that the prismacolor coloring pencils have good pigment but I can't afford them.
Awe that was lovely!! 🎉
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Went to purchase the flower book you showed at the start of your video, looks like a book I would love, however postage to Australia is $70 :( unfortunately too expensive - would love to purchase the book if cheaper shipping/postage becomes available xx
Thank you so much ❤ found this really helpful
I'm new to buying alcohol markers. Which set do you recommend?
Jennifer, that mandala you drew and colored gray, is it going to be in the premium library? It’s lovely!
Good evening everyone! Greetings from Canada!
I like #3 the best.

My bday is 03 03🎉. I'd like to see a tutorial with not so expensive markers or the best on the market and with fine tip

I have asked this once before but does the book that you recommended for the markers, work for the other 320 set? I bought the book not realizing that I don’t have that specific line of ohuhu markers.
My favorite was #2
