Wow!😍 I've learnt so much today. That's why you're the Queen of colouring Claire! You can make the simplest pictures look fabulous with the easiest techniques! And you're a great teacher. Amazing!
I love this! I’ve been looking for weeks for long-form tutorials of these techniques I’m constantly seeing on Tik tok. I would love love LOVE to see you doing more techniques on these kinds of pages.
Wow! You're colouring video's are so good. They're nice and easy to follow, you take your time in explaining and don't rush which is fabulous. Thank you Claire, I will look forward to more of your video's like this 😊💐
Great video! Thank you so much! I learned a lot and thank you for reminding me colouring should be fun and relaxing not stressful worrying about everything being perfect!!
Claire you are a exceptional teacher. I would have never thought to do that with just markers. I have always used pencils to shade over markers, using the marker itself is much simpler. I have been on the fence about these books. I now want them. Thanks for being the beautiful person you are!
Thank you so much, I have fallen in love with these books. I love the effects that you show so effortlessly, and yet add another dimension to the pic, that whilst it may have crossed ones mind to do the application would seem complicated. You are fantastic and a great idea for teaching. Love the nails btw. I will consider giving this a try.
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and it’s taught me so much! I have limited experience as an adult colorist, so I will probably start with some of the less detailed books like these, and you’ve given me some great inspiration.
I love the of these specifically to use with my markers. My other books like JB seem way too detailed to really do much with markers + not all hers are single sided. This type of coloring is the one that actually works for me for mindfulness coloring. I find myself overthinking my pencil ones color schemes, palettes, cohesiveness, it takes so long to get the color down I feel I need to experiment with all my colors before I start so it takes longer or I just dont start from being overwhelmed. Ive had the most stress free, coloring for mindfulness, when using cheap books + markers.
If you don't want to use gouache you can also use a white pencil. Test first to see which brand you like the opacity/transparency of. I've done it with Prisma.
What a wonderful video , I’ve seen a lot of these books they are so cute 😊 I loved your little snap and viola done ! Lol Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks and especially your time . 😊
Claire...I absolutely LOVED this video! Thank you so much for taking the chance on this new style because I am obsessed with it! Sadly, however, many of my favorite coloring channels are staying away from the trend, which is a bummer. Because, like you've just shown here, there are still so many ways to make coloring these pages such fun! And so besides the techniques you shared here, there are so many others I know I would love to learn...like coloring water and snow...but I worry I'll have nowhere to learn them going forward 😕. I'll always love my Rita Berman and Johanna Bassford books, but like you said, a palette cleanser in between more intricate pages like that just makes sense 😊 Thanks again Claire...hope you'll keep sharing your pages on instagram!
At 45:56, this quite genious, keeping a library of patterns that you could create and can easily reference back to them to elevate your coloring rather than just flat coloring the large spaces and adding shadows on the edges.
19:01 Claire, you are amazing!! Thanks so very much for sharing your experience with us!!! I have the same Ohuhu markers and I picked up 2 Halloween/Fall themed coloring books at my Dollar General Market. I will be definitely using your tips!! Thanks again 😊 from Ohio
You have a great way of teaching, Claire. I learned a lot from this video. The simplicity of your techniques makes me want to get back into coloring. My favorite part of your colored pages was the calico cat. Clever and cute! 👻👻
I absolutely agree with you. Sometimes you want to use your markers and not worry so much about blending and all that. I just bought 2 Coco Wyo books and can’t wait to colour using my alcohol markers
One of the best videos on RUclips on how to color with alcohol markers Claire 😊 just love them and was watching a lot of videos to learn how to use them in coloring books (not for creating my own art) and nothing came close to your video. Have a lovely day ❤
Wow!!! This video was lovely. I have alcohol markers. I was frustrated with my results and went on to other media. I now have a renewed interest in them.
Love the special effects. I adore smaller books and there are not enough of them out there that are actually designed to be small and not just an existing large image shrunk down, making everything miniscule and defeating the idea of an easier coloring. I don't want to have to get a magnifying glass and fineliners out, I want to not have to fill a full page to complete it. These are kind of the evolution of the place Kameliya Angelkova's miniatures series of books fit in my collection.. easy breaks between more complicated work. I've always thought hers should be smaller in format, there is so much wasted space on the page, it could easily be 8x8 or even smaller. The simple books have grown a life of their own and a lot of colorists are finding they want this level of commitment all the time.. which I can completely understand. Lord knows I don't have as much free time as I would like either, it can take me two weeks to work through something like a Mythographic page.. I love them, but it's a lot. They can be extraordinarily simple, but they don't have to be. You can totally go in and shade/detail it to your hearts content. I also find the simple images to be great for really going full on in, like realistic fur techniques, leaves with a ton of dimension, cast shadows, reflected light.. the works. There is so much room to work. Maybe it's because I come from a painting background and am used to working from extremely basic outlines. I do prefer my "easy" pages to be a bit more involved than the current "cozy" books, like matchstick mouse or reptiloids, with a bit thinner linework... and I hope that will be the next evolution in popular books.. kind of a middle ground. I also really wish publishers like Coco Wyo would put the actual artist on the cover, that really bugs me about buying their books. I have very strong feelings regarding artists getting their due credit.
The transparent ghosts are so simple but so smart! These books are really all so cute although I personally worry about AI art and most of these don't give me the vibe that they are legit. So if I buy I will most likely just buy one.
Fantastic video. These tips definitely helped me out. I’ve been wanting to do the transparent ghost for a while now. I don’t have any gauche paint(s) and I don’t have a lot of variety of shades for alcohol markers… do you think I could use a watered down acrylic paint for the same effect?
Don't apologize for a long video, I quite enjoyed it. You are so talented, thank you for sharing all this information with us. This video made me realize how interesting this type of coloring is, I am excited to try your techniques. Also, where did you find these background ideas?
Hi Claire! It’s been far too long since I’ve stopped in for a visit… I just learned a bit with alcohol markers. Something that intimidates me..I’ve seen these simple coloring books and have watched a few clips at how fast a seemingly simple. But.. I really don’t have markers. I want a smaller set that have a good color range? Do you have any advice for a brand? Now on to watching and learning from you. Thankx Claire, I’ll do my best to check in. 😎
I would definitely suggest Ohuhu and preferably the Honolulu B variety, which is fine/brush tip. Too many other cheap markers bleed yellow and ruin pages. I've had my Ohuhus for over two years and have zero complaints. For basing under pencil I suggest the original 48 pastel set (the one with the color Prawn in it), but for full coloring like this you will want a normal assortment of colors.. unless you want everything to be pastel of course. They have a variety of sizes, and they all come with a nice little case.
