I bought this book and actually reproduced the technique, tried to understand lights and shadows. Feels like I’m getting better with practice ! I love this coloring book! Would love a color along series! ❤
Wow, this might be the best instructional video I have seen for blending markers i learned so much. thank you for taking so much time to explain and list the colors used so i could follow along better. its so awesome!
Really enjoyed seeing your page come to life. Terrific tip about using the greys to tame some brighter colours. I'll have to give that a go. Thanks for sharing.
Its a good one right? Especially since most alcohol markers are quite vibrant, so it’s nice to have an option to tone them down a bit. Happy colouring! 🥰
Kyra, you're a natural when it comes to all types of coloring in my opinion! As much as I love my Prismacolor pencils, I have been drawn to alcohol marker coloring in the Amazon books lately. Because you asked, I'd love to see any kind of Alcohol marker instruction, including texturizing! If anyone can teach it concisely it's definitely you! Thanks as always for sharing your talents!
Lovely video Kyra with some super helpful tips! I love the bright colour palette you used for this page 😍 I especially enjoyed watching you colour the gold-brown elements on the page! 💞
So happy to see this video! I came from the alcohol marker world into the colored pencil world a few months ago so it was so nice to see one of my favorite mediums featured. Your page came out beautifully - especially considering you did it all on Amazon paper!!! I really love it! ❤
This was such a joy to watch! Your technique and color choices are stunning, thank you for the great tips and the discount code. I'm fairly new to markers but I already love my 120 Ohuhu set, and am about to add in the 104 (which I think I'll love even more). Looking forward to your future videos!
Thanks for the video I've been wanting to use Alcohol markers so bad but I didn't really understand how to blend them. This video gave me some confidence 😄
I'm always happy when I see a video that you have uploaded🤗. Then I look forward to the moment, when I can sit comfortably on the couch after work and watch what beautiful things you show us this time.🥰 Thanks to you I started to love alcohol markers and now I absolutely have to buy this coloring book, too.... 😇
As usual, your teaching style hits it out of the park for me! I love how you break things down into steps. My biggest problem with my beloved full set of ohuhu markers is choosing blends. I woukd love more information on blends combinations. I wonder if someone has created a print out for ohuhu color combos the way they do with colored pencil?? Long comment but I loved this video!
If you search for Ohuhu color combos on Pinterest there are a few there if you need some inspiration! And thank you for your lovely words, I really appreciate the support 😍🌈💖
I totally understand the struggle! I honestly just try not to overthink it too much and trust my intuition, taking light sources and overlapping objects into consideration ☺️
I'm following along and I'm learning so much. Thank you. Please make more videos like this!! ♥️ Could you show us how you do the steam from the mugs and things? It's flawless!
Just found your channel and these tips were soooo helpful! I have found that (for me) some books just have paper that I really struggle with when I’m laying down alcohol markers and following it up with pencil. Sometimes I can’t get that pesky alcohol line smoothed out with pencil. I was working in RJ Hampson’s book “Asleep” and just could not get some lines smoothed and the pencil just didn’t want to fill the tooth of the paper- these were Prismacolors too. Well, lots for me to learn! 🤪🤪Thanks again for making this video. I will refer to it repeatedly! I also just appreciate how upbeat you are- I was smiling throughout this video.
Great job…very enjoyable video! I like basing my pics with alcohol markers as well. I have the 216 set of Ohuhu Markers with two of the bamboo towers and love them. I need to get the rest of the markers and one more tower to complete my set. Thank you for the discount code! 🎉
Thank you so much! May I ask where is the video about basing with makers and pencil on top? Just discovered your channel! Definitely subscribed!!☺️ wonderful to have another Australian colourist on RUclips! Thank you again!
Turned on RUclips when sitting down for dinner and your video was literally just uploaded. What a great way to spend Friday night! I loved the way your page turned out and learned a lot 💕 I’ve never tried alcohol markers before but am trying to color a page with acrylics right now. PS I love your lip gloss color, it’s so pretty with your skin and eyes! Do you mind sharing what it is? (If not, no worries :)
Aww this warms my heart 💖 Thank you so much for supporting my little corner of the internet. Also, I use a lip tint in the colour “taupe-less” from the brand Frank Body. However, I think it might only be available in Australia 😬💖
You've inspired me to begin looking at my coloring books again... and mayyyybe buy those Ohuhu markers! They look like quality markers compared to Copics!
Thanks for the tips!!! Yea I just started my journey with markers… I never liked markers but I’m growing a like and one thing I noticed is not to color close to the line. I thought I was pressing too hard lol. 😂😅 just keep learning with them
it looks gorgeous!!, I feel like this technique may take more time than basing with them and shading with pencils? my go to is shading with pencils on top like you've shown before.
I found that it took about the same amount of time as if I were to use pencils but that’s probably cause I can be a bit too much of a perfectionist some times when it comes to pencil 😅💕
I just started looking into coloring books and markers today. I see lots of people love the ohuhu markers but I can’t find the brush & fine point tip in stock anywhere. Any tips on where to look. I’m in the US.
The Ohuhu website is probably your best bet! Here’s the link to the 120 set of brush and fine-tip markers. They also have smaller sets of them as well on the site. Just make sure you click on the brush and fine-tip option ☺️ au.ohuhu.com/collections/honolulu-b-series/products/ohuhu-120-colors-dual-tips-alcohol-art-markers-brush-chisel
Thanks for your video and tutorial. I have a set of 72 markers and so afraid to start them 😅, thanks for sharing. May I ask if the same layering method is use on pencils too, really love the way you blend them. Possible to do a tutorial on how to do on pencils ❤.. thank you so much ;)
I find that my Brutfuners and Arrtx are soft core but actually really great at layering. Otherwise the polychromos are a great option if you want an artist quality pencil
Just a thought....I was getting tired of my alcohol makers wearing out so quickly and they are expensive that I am now working with soft pastels, at times ,in my coloring pages. I save my alcohol markers for detail work so they don't wear out so fast. It's really fun and you use so little . Pastel chalks last long. Your pics have a soft ,pretty look. I looked up videos on it and it's working out nice . Of course my first and fav are colored pencils. Love your channel and great videos. 😊
Your page is stunning! Like I said, at first glance, I thought it was a pencil page! I have VERY CHEAP alcohol markers, and I really don't think I'll be able to do this with them 😅😜
Why has no one made a really great alcohol marker coloring book? Yes do more alcohol marker videos. Did you KNOW there are more than 320 ohuohu alcohol markers.
This is my process here! 1. Start with a base of the highlight color 2. Add shadows using the darkest color 3. Blend the two colors together with the mid-tone 4. Go over the entire element again with the highlight color to blend all the colors 5. If necessary, reapply the shadow color to deepen any shading that might have been lost during the blending process
yeh i wish these popular coloring books like joahnnas and kerbys etc werent double sided pages bc i wanna use markers bc so much faster than pencils (i would still go over it with pencil after probably) but i cant use em bc bleeds thru :c so i havent been coloring in those coloring books lately bc of that reasons and others too. when i first got years of witches i was coloring on it non stop for weeeeekssssss with my markers but i havent gone back to it in a while :c i think i got burnt from colorin so much on it non stop haha plus i was using in each page the same limited color palette and markers and only incorporating new colors sometimes.. some of my markers are also running out/ ran out :c but idk if i wanna get new ones if i havent been coloring much lately
I totally understand the double-sided book struggle! Perhaps if you take a little break from colouring then you’ll get a renewed urge to start colouring again. I know sometimes I need to take a break if I’ve been colouring too much or colouring really difficult pages 😉💕
@@apicturedpurpose yeah exaclty, ill color a lil bit at a time on not so big pages usually and i use either markers or pens somethin fast. plus ive other hobbies so those other hobbies take my time too and energy. but hopefully ill get back to coloring more and feelin less overwhelmed soon
I only use single-sided books because of bleed-through. Some of my favs are: Enchanted Earth by Melpomeni, Magical Woodland by Kate Pellerin, Spooky by Sara Szewcyzk and obviously Year of Witches by Uusikuuu 😉💖
I bought this book and actually reproduced the technique, tried to understand lights and shadows. Feels like I’m getting better with practice !

Lovely video Kyra with some super helpful tips! I love the bright colour palette you used for this page 😍 I especially enjoyed watching you colour the gold-brown elements on the page! 💞
Awww thank you so much Jess 😍✨

Thank you for this tutorial and giving us the color combos as well. Much appreciated. I love your videos.
I’m so glad it was helpful for you! Thank you for watching 🥰💖
Super helpful thank you!
How do you know where to put the shadows and highlights though? I
struggle with that… I color like a 12 year old 😂
I totally understand the struggle! I honestly just try not to overthink it too much and trust my intuition, taking light sources and overlapping objects into consideration ☺️
Loving your channel. I bought all of Rita Berman's books because of you 😅. Now I gotta build up my collection of single sided books for my ohuhus.
That’s amazing! And yes, I need to build up my single sided book collection as well 😅🌈✨
I'm following along and I'm learning so much. Thank you. Please make more videos like this!! ♥️

@@apicturedpurpose thank you!
I appreciated watching how you layered the colors to blend. That's the most difficult part for me. Thanks.
You’re welcome! So glad it helped ☺️

@uwanaride2 I just used the code Ohuhu15 and it works that should give you an extra 5% off 🎨
Thank you so much!

The apples look amazing 😅 truthfully everything does but the shading on the apples…they looked real for a second
Aww thank you so much!
Very pretty! 👍 Alcohol markers are more difficult, but you make them look easy! 👏👏

You can definitely use the same method with pencils! Just make sure you’re using pencils that layer well! Pencils with a harder core are best ✨💕
Ahhh thanks a lot . Harder core, my pencils are all soft core. Any brands to introduce? Thanks
I find that my Brutfuners and Arrtx are soft core but actually really great at layering. Otherwise the polychromos are a great option if you want an artist quality pencil

Highly recommend 🥰✨

Can you still highlight pastels with acrylic marker or gel pen on top?
I just treated myself to the 320 set after watching this video, merry christmas to me lol
That is the BEST Christmas present! 😉❤️
Did you only use the colours from the 120 set? Great job! ❤️🇦🇺
Yes I did! 🥰✨

Yes we need that kind of book! And omg I had no idea there was more than 320. This definitely changes things…😂💕
@CreativeCarrah here on youtube has a coloring book specifically for alcohol markers. It has really nice illustrations. ❤
ive not used alcohol markers for almost a decade and I want to get back into them so im looking up tutorials haha

Thank you ❤

So what I'm seeing is a light base, then a bit darker color, darker again and then over all with the first color
This is my process here!
1. Start with a base of the highlight color
2. Add shadows using the darkest color
3. Blend the two colors together with the mid-tone
4. Go over the entire element again with the highlight color to blend all the colors
5. If necessary, reapply the shadow color to deepen any shading that might have been lost during the blending process

Oh no! I hate it when that happens 😅 Hopefully you can use at some point in the next few months 🤞🏻✨
What colouring book do you use for alcohol markers?

Just a scrap piece of paper ☺️
