A couple more hacks for you to try. Blu tak also works like a kneadable eraser. The craft knife hack works the best for an animal whiskers and try putting the marks with the knife 1st then colour over them. The pencil under the watercolour is a perfect technique for the light wispy clouds we get. Maybe even the jet stream too.

Thank you for showing us those tricks and technics! 😊. For me, the kneaded eraser is not a hack, it was made to lift graphite or pigments. No disrespect intended. Yesterday, out of despair, tried it with acrylic pens.. it worked! But the paper had no tooth, very smooth. Works with soft pastels (not oil). For blending, I often use the Finesse colored pencil blender pen. It’s probably water-based because it didn’t go through the paper. I recently discovered that the Sakura brand produces something similar under the product line « Koi ». It’s written on it « coloring brush pen-water based, dyestuff ink. Doesn’t go through paper. I tried both with Amazon paper. I used Nice Little Town by Tatiana Bogema (or Bogena?) and the Winter book by Rita Berman. Having arthritis and fibromyalgia, it’s a pain saver. I want to specify that I only apply a thin layer. So I don’t know what would happen with many layers or applied with a heavier hand. The pencils I used were Black widows, Prismacolors and Castle. Have you tried either of these Kira and/or someone else?

I’ve never seen people use alcohol markers with watercolour pencils. It’s always the tombow water based blending marker

These hacks were really interesting, my fave was the water with soft pastel one as I haven't found workable fixative yet. My own organisation hack is to use a little rubber band to keep colour combo's together while working on a page.❣

Try tooth pick great for wax pencils

Used drry paint btush for smothh blend or make-up brushes

So fun trying new things out! I’ve done the plastic and markers before and it really helps if you spray the colors with some water. Then you can move the color around with your fingers (on top of the plastic). It’s super messy, but fun. Thanks for sharing ☺️

I've not tried using a colorless blender to blend out watercolor pencils. But I have seen other coloring enthusiasts use the marker with traditional oil or wax based pencils, and their results did vary according to the paper of the book. Books with better quality paper did better.

Spray the water based markers with a fine mist of water before transferring it to the paper.

Use neat vodka to blend. No smell. Not for drinking. A bottle brush (not tree) gets great various effects with splashing etc😂 greetings from a very hot South Africa.

Putting the pencils short time in the water is like the oldest trick. 😅

Thanks so much for such a fun video! For the watercolor/watercolor marker transfer technique try watching some videos about "ink smooshing". Using more water and a firmer piece of acetate should give better results. It's a fantastic technique once you get the hang of it. 1:56

Great hacks! I've been using petroleum jelly, Vaseline as it's known in the states, and a q-tip to blend. The trick is to use a wee little bit of Vaseline. I find it works really well and doesn't damage the paper or cause a lot of bleed through. Don't glob it on, just gently dip the q-tip. The toothbrush hack for splatter turned out beautifully. I'm getting ready to attempt a galaxy background and that hack is perfect for my upcoming project.

I Will be trying oil pastels with Oderless spirits

I use Gamsol regularly for oil pastel and colored pencil blending. I’m not a “burnisher” so the Gamsol blending for pencil is great. Plus it saves your hand! 😀

Instead of scraping with a knife, I've seen people use a small/thin eraser to remove some of the coloured pencil, and create that texture.

I get excellent results when blending pastels with petroleum jelly. Apply a thin film of petroleum jelly to the end of a Q-tip, blend pastel colours, and allow to dry.

Hi so glad I found this video. I have seen so many colourists base with paint brush pens. Then colour over with pencil. I have tried so many different pencils and can’t get it to work well. I keep looking for videos that might show what pencils work best but there aren’t any. Have you experimented with different pencils on artex? Is this something you might be interested in making a video about as i. Cant the only new colourist struggling.

Mmm difficult decision re inktense and neocolor2. I like using inktense as a base and not backgrounds whereas I prefer using neocolor2 for backgrounds so I guess you need to decide which one you want to prioritise. I would say both have learning curves too!

Thanks for tutorials, very informative. I would try applying a layer of a darker shade of magenta marker to add colour to the black night sky.
