Famously Annie Lennox went to a party when she was a teenager where the only record they had to play was A Whiter Shade of Pale. While all the teengagers were busy amusing themselves with each other, Annie's job was to stand by the record player and move the needle back to the beginning over and over ..........
Walking on broken glass is a favourite of mine. And the fact it has John malkcovich in it makes it even better. Must be an angel is a great song to. 🥰🥰🥰

She is heavily pregnant with Lola during the filming of the Little Bird video (you see when she stands side on) that is why they used the concept of the look a likes so Annie didn't have to do much physically because she was literally over 7 months pregnant! ♥️♥️
As magical as Annie's voice is, her visual presentation always just takes you a step beyond any expectations. Oftentimes a bit surreal and, as you said, even perplexing. But her commitment to creating a character and a world for it to inhabit is so compelling.

By the way, her second album "Medusa" contains of nothing but cover versions which Annie of course made her own. So "No More I Love You's" is originally by A Lover Speaks (07/86 UK #58) and "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" by Procul Harum (05/67 UK #1 US #5).
I love that the Medusa album made me look at the sleeve notes to find out who recorded a particular song originally and then seek their music out. I have listened to artists like Neil Young that I would never have listened to for free on the radio before. ♥️♥️
I LOVED "Wait in Vain' from that album and the video is so fun.

No more I loves you came out when I was 13. There wasn't really any exposure to anything LGBTQ+ on TV or in life in general. As a very confused teen trying to come to terms with my sexuality, I didn't really even know gay was a thing. The video for this was such an eye opener - men dressed as women, men dancing with men. I still didn't really understand it but it was a really important video to me.

'Little Bird' is one of my favourite music videos to watch. Every time I watch it I focus on a different Annie iteration. You were totally correct when you said that they all have Annie's facial expressions down. It was probably inspired by the Emcee from Cabaret.
Love Song For a Vampire. It was in the Dracula film with Keanu Reeves.
Easily one of the classiest women in our music world today. Why and No More I Love You's are my favourite songs from her.
No More "I Love You's" was written by David Freeman of the 80's New Wave duo The Lover Speaks (hence the lyric.."the lover speaks about the monsters.)
Another fantastic cover of one of their songs is "Sleep Like Breathing" off Allison Moyet's Raindancing release.
If you haven't checked her out with her first group 'The Tourists' from 1979, their biggest hit was 'I Only Want To Be With You'. Dave Stewart was part of the band too before they formed 'Eurythmics' :)
What I love about the Little Bird video is that two of the Annies are from the same video (Beethoven (I Love To Listen To)).

In Little Bird Annie was heavily pregnant with her oldest daughter and wore the emcee costume in part to cover it up. I believe that most (maybe all) of the other Annies were professional lookalikes.
In No More I Love Yous the ballet dancers were a tribute to an iconic troupe of ballet performers called Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. They are an all male group who perform females roles

I'm a huge annie lennox fan!! thanks so much for showcasing her talent and artistry on your channel! Her music videos were top notch and always thought provoking. I agree on " no more I love you's " I don't see how the performance in the music video ties in with the actual song and its content. But Annie loves to keep us guessing and she uses a lot of symbolism in her music. I might take a stab and say that the music video is sort of a parody of her real life? Like maybe fame impacted her love life somehow? hmmm its still a mystery.

"A Whiter Shade of Pale" is a song by the English rock band Procol Harum that was issued as their debut record on 12 May 1967. The single reached number 1 in the UK Singles Chart on 8 June and stayed there for six weeks. Without much promotion, it reached number 5 on the US Billboard Hot 100..so says Wikipedia.
It's a beautiful song. One of my favorites.

Her record company must have been tearing their hair at the cost of the videos, and being able to get John Malkovic and Hugh Laurie from the TV show House to appear shows how much she is respected. she must be among the top female vocalists and stands apart from her contemporaries.

Love me some Annie Lennox. Out of this set No More "I Love You's" and Walking on Broken Glass are my faves, both songs and videos. But you're right, A Whiter Shade of Pale is so soothing. I think now after hearing the original by Procol Harum (both studio and live versions) I prefer them. You should check both out when you get a chance.

It is one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs you're ever likely to hear.
This brought back so many memories. Diva was one of my coming out albums. It was the backdrop of a very intense time in my life both positive and negative. I remember dancing to the remixes of Little Bird and Walking on Broken Glass in the clubs. What a trip!!!

The video for walking on broken glass takes inspo from movie dangerous liaisons which starred John malcovich who plays her clover in this.also the guy she sits with is British comedian,actor and jazz pianist Hugh Laurie who was house.

Also you should check out Love song for a vampire. The theme song from the Dracula movie starring Gary Oldman. It was released in the UK as a double A side single release with Little Bird. The video is also brilliant, who else could play a Vampire Bride look terrifying but still beautiful! ♥️♥️ A brilliant live moment when she appeared with David Bowie at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert at London's Wembley Stadium. They performed Under Pressure the track that David Bowie sang as a duet with Queen in the eighties. Annie sounds amazing and looks and acts completely bonkers. The outfit she wore was featured as a character in the Little Bird video. Just search YT for David Bowie Annie Lennox Freddie Mercury tribute concert. ♥️♥️

I think those scenes were inspired by the film adaptation of 'Dangerous Laisons' which was first written as a play. The two characters are playing a cruel game, they are competing against one another to see who can break more hearts and destroy more lives.

Little Bird was smacked into Demi Moores Striptease movie as its soundtrack,dont ask me how i know. It was for science okay?! I wanted to see if actresses could dance in movies *cough cough*. 😳But the vibe of that song was perfect for the scene with Demi,as i seem to remember she was home alone,and danced around in a shirt and some panties,with a hairdryer on (it was drying her hair OKAY! And i think she at one point acted like it was a microphone) It was a fun scene,with Demi just "fooling around,having a good time". I might be wrong,but its defintly in that movie,and all jokes aside: It is more of a drama comedy,it has alot of both. Eventhough you do see alot of female bahama mamas and badonkadonks in the movie,its very light hearted. And at the time Demi got paied an astronomical sum of money to star in the movie,so it was a high budget production for sure in the mid 90s. And by Annie having her solo material (as well as some of Eurythmics`s songs i think) in it,it just shows how well respected and appreciated shes in the world.

Sophie Muller started out producing Eurythmics videos and she did almost all of Annie’s solo work too. She’s incredible; just look up her videography, you’ll be surprised by how many iconic musicians and videos she has worked on. Padam anyone?
The "No More I Love Yous" video takes place in a 19th century bordello - where everyone is playing a part and pretending to be someone they are not. This symbolizes the people that were in her life who claimed to love her. She is saying that she doesn't want to hear "I love you!" anymore but wants to experience love in reality rather than just in words.
I know I'm a year too late but here I go anyway. You hit the nail on the head. I was hoping that someone would understand the background and the context that connects to the meaning of the song. It wasn't arbitrary. I would add one superfluous context. The bordello depicted was made famous by Cyrano de Bergerac. He was a short, homely outcast who found his acceptance here. He is the father of the musical art poster and the inspiration for rock album covers. I don't think that was part of the thinking here but the unattributed, shadow reality is connected. Thanks for your contribution to everyone's understanding.
Again your reactions have so much rewatch value was good watching these again. I do hope you do reactions for more Diva music videos. She released a video album on VHS back in the day (showing my age lol) when the actual album came out and made a whole host of music videos for non single releases, quick list lol Legend in my Living Room, Money Can't Buy It, Primitive, The Gift & Keep Young and Beautiful. All the visuals are stunning as are the other 2 vids for the singles Precious & Cold are brilliant also.

A Whiter Shade of Pale... Annie Lennox shows how to do a cover right. Take a beloved track (please react to Procol Harum's original of the song, not some later live version) and give it your own, while _not_ making a sad song happy or a desparate song "positive". Instead, take the primal emotions at the core of the original and use your own emotions to show how _you'd_ accomplish the same with your take. (There are far too many covers in the world that take a very strong song of sadness or desperation that try and make it uplifting or "sexy", which clearly is a pet peeve of mine...) :)
Just to let you know, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart were in a band called The Tourists before they split off from them sometime after 1979 to become The Eurythmics. Here is a music video from them, when Annie was just 27. Production’s not as great as the videos you’ve watched on this channel, so not expecting you to want to make a video from it. Just thought I’d share it for your own pleasure. Annies voice is still AMAZING!

Maybe it’s because I was familiar with his work in Dangerous Liaisons, that I always thought he was in on it in this video. I felt like she didn’t so much as win him back, as they set the whole spectacle up to cause drama.
