I think the whole 'Diva' album is pretty dope. So many good songs... 'Walking on broken glass' is a favourite with many people, but it's probably my least favourite of the record. Which probably speaks of the overall excellence of the songs! And lest we forget or overlook it, her pen game is definitely top notch.
I remember I was in middle school and came upon this video on MTV (early 1993)..and I didn't understand the significance of all the people..but I liked the song and the video. As it turned out my Mom had the CD and she explained that all of those people were representing all of Annie Lennox's past looks in Eurythmics...and she had to explain to me who that was lol And I think this video was done this way because she was 7 or 8 months pregnant in the video.
***ANNIE LENNOX TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...I may not 'fly like a bird', with me busted Back, but I can give trivia again..... - ...this was the 3rd single (from Annie solos debut, "Diva"); She had the Movie Soundtrack tune "Love Song For A Vampire" ("Dracula") when this came out also, and it became a '2-sided single' in some countries.... - ....she was VERY pregnant at this time, and filmed the Video DURING her pregnancy; the concept came from Annie's 1st Daughter, to have ALL of Annie's 'personas' flank her on a stage, during a "Cabaret" (Joel Gray)-like performance....Annie was *THE FIRST ONE* to do this, then came Gloria Estefan, then MADONNA, then Cher, then Janet..... - ....this tune ALSO, was important in starting (solo) Annie in becoming a DISCO DIVA; the tune was remixed by Todd Terry ('House Of Gypsies'), Mindflux & N'Joi, getting Annie her 1st #1 Dance Club hit, Spring, 1993.... ...the Video was HUUUUUUUGE with Gay Men, also solidifying Annie as an ally to the Gays...the "Sweet Dreams" Annie (1:42) was a Young Gay Man, and said doing the Video helped him 'come out' FREELY, and when he told Annie, she told him to "..never hide who YOU are...." ....even if, he's playing HER! ....ha-HAAA!! ...a VERY, VERY important Video, that's now a CLASSIC.... Annie was SO heavily pregnant then, but it's quite well hidden. And the concept of all the different Annie personas mostly from Eurythmics videos is only really enjoyable if you actually KNOW all those videos (what I of course do 😁) Some impersonators are better, some worse, some male, some female. But they perfectly detracted the viewers' attention from Annie's baby bump, didn't they!
