You saved my Maker 3! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! With Halloween and Christmas coming I was going out of my mind!!! You are the only one I found that actually helped me fix my connection problem!! All I needed was a little guidance and it's finally works! Thank you Thank you Thank you! ❤️🙏
THANK YOU for this video, I just open my 8 month old cricut maker 3 for the first time & couldn't get it to update the firmware, it kept freezing. I tried everything on the web site, nothing helped.... I called with a 45 min wait time for help & was hung up on after the third ring. I search for 2 days trying different wording & finally found your video. Followed your instructions & it worked. I thought for sure I wasted my $350.00 because I wait until now to open that box I was so afraid to learn a new machine..lol I had a church project for this Sunday & your video saved the day. Bless you!!!
I have to tell you a huge thank you!!! I have a preowned Explore Air 2 and thought the connectivity problem was the reason the previous owner threw up their hands. I’ve been in Cricut’s customer service line, searched and searched online and finally surrendered I. Frustration and found myself buying a new Cricut Maker. While researching set up and comparisons, your video came up. Thank God I had not opened the Cricut Maker. It’s all going back to the store because your trick saved my Explore Air 2 from being thrown out!! Thank you thank you thank you!
This video just saved me HOURS of troubleshooting. THANK YOU! My cricut maker would disconnect right in the middle of printing and give me that error code 18, but the instructions didn’t work. Had to do error code 22 instructions. THANK YOU!
Lady, thank you. You saved me so much money. I was ready to ab Chuck this bs out the window since it’s been well over 2yr since I’ve used this thing. Who would’ve known. Thank you! God bless you guys.
THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worked first time. You should be employed by Cricut. I was ready to throw my machine in the bin since Thursday , today is Saturday. Thankyou again and again.
i have not had my machine do this, but just make sure all your updates are good - i do nt have a solution for that problem yet, but i will pu my thinking cap on for it!
I could kiss you!!!! Trying to make t shirts for my teenage granddaughter's birthday and every time I started cutting, it would print to about 16%, then I got the dreaded -18 error code. I wasted so much vinyl. Like you, I was ready to throw my cricut in the lake!! I spent 2 hours on the phone with cricut, and not once did they recommend erasing my download history and cookies! I did your hack and everything is wonderful again!!!! Thank you so much! You are the best!
Oh my word. THANK YOU so much for posting this video. I too was pulling my hair out. Wish I would have searched for help sooner. :--)) I was getting the " 18 error code and doing the 21 code fix did the trick.
THANK YOU! It's so weird that of all things, that's the fix. My explore air 2 is attached by USB, so why would clearing cookies affect it??? Just strange in my opinion, but grateful to have it solved.
it is more to do with your computer and the cashe and cookies you have stored, it just james up the program so it cannot talk with the machine, glad it worked!
I was so hopeful when I saw this and I'm glad it's worked for so many others. I tried it several times and it didn't help. I've only used my maker 3 times and then Error(-18) popped up. It's beyond infuriating and now I'm glad I'm not alone! But we should not have to be this frustrated with a new product. There needs to be some sort of class action suit for reimbursement for our goshdang time dealing with this headache and with a product that doesn't work correctly!! My goodness I'm sooooooooo annoyed!! I will probably see if I can just return this piece of crap! Thanks so much for your video though it helped me realize it wasn't me or my setup.
I’ve tried your method. I go through the material selection and when it moves the blade to the right to detect tool, the machine shuts off. That’s when it says (-18) communication error. Any ideas? Thanks
might need to check the cables, make sure everything is plugged in. These were the steps (plus clearing my cache in my computer) you might also try where you go into clear your cashe you also clear cookies, it might help fix the problem. I hope you can find solution!
I've found just by turning the machine off then back on and rebooting Design Space, it does the same thing, resets the Cricut. It's a Bluetooth issue, so I just hardwired mine.
mine was always hardwired in, and i still had this issue even with restarts, but i am so glad it is is an easy fix on your end, saves all the hassle of doing the all the extra steps :)
@@pacomoralesfont8199 I have also found that if the clearing of the cache and cookies does not work anymore, my computer is too bogged down with files to allow the connection. Clear out your trash files, download files, and make sure your drives are not too full 0 dump some files over to your external hard drives. A bogged-down computer can cause some issues as well. Hope this helps!
Just got the cricut maker 3 and have been trying to cut basswood. It seems to take a long time but I keep getting an error (-45, 53) which I can't find info on. It ends in Timeout error 18. Is cutting wood the problem? I seem to have no problem with thinner materials.
I have never personally tried to cut basswood, but i do know you need a different blade and it will take a long time to cut. Sorry i could not any further help, i have not had this issue to try and fix - but the timeout error happens when the cricut or your computer gets bogged down - so clearing your cache, cookies, and also making sure your files on your hard drive are not full - so also clear out your downloads, trash, move things to your external drive - etc all helps
This is the issue I’m getting now when cutting basswood or balsa or chipboard. It stops on middle w the same error as yours. I done everything on cricut except for cookies that this video says. So if that won’t help. I’m calling Cricut morrow. Ugh. It will do the other stuff so far just nothing w the knife blade at all. No matter what material it is
if your Cricut is still having issues, a full computer can also cause problems. Clear your trash, and your downloads, move some files to a backup drive, etc. I have found that having my drives filled (more than 60%) can cause this issue as well
I had a code -18! Spent hours on the phone line with cricut! It would just spin… Finally I changed the chord to a new chord and it works excellent! I’ve been screwing around with this for weeks to the point, I purchased a new one from Amazon this morning! This afternoon I decided to change the chord to a new one! Thought that’s the last straw! Might be the chord! Sure enough! It’s all updated, cleared, reloaded it etc! Bla bla bla! Finally I changed the chord to a new one and the dam thing runs like a top! It’s a bad chord! Explore 3 I’ll send the new one back when it gets here! Replace your chord!
Hiiii, I need your help I legit just opened my brand new cricut and when I go to do my first cut the sample I get an error saying machine communication error idk what to do… I just opened it it’s brand new and I’ve use my cell phone everything you said too sounds like the issues are kind of the smart but mine don’t say code 18…
I am not sure who to fix that, i do know if your computer has too many files on it, like it is too full, it has a hard time working. I actually switched my maker to run from my laptop with way less "stuff" on it and it works much better. other tips are to make sure you have the most current cricut software installed. i hope you can get it to work soon!
i would check to make sure all your connections are in place, full pushed in, and if it does not work even after that, next step is to contect Cricut, they would be able to help you further.
so sorry about that fix not working for you. i have i also personally found that if my computer too full (getting close to 85% or more on the hard drive, then Design Space does not like to work. even though i have cleaned out my cache, history, etc, i also needed to clear out my downloads, trash, not needed files, move some files to my external drive, etc and then it helps the program function better.
my cricut came today. when i want to do a project it also shows me the error -18, but when i want to conect it, it says that my mashine is deactivated????? wich is so wierd to me , becouse all my devices can connect to the cricut via Bluetooth and cable. but design space tells me it's deactivated? it is a new cricut and not a secondhand one. do you have any ideas? your method sadly doesn't work
Thank you so much for the video ❤ I do want to cry knowing I have to delete my history if I ever want to use crocus 😢 though I guess it’s better than £200 going down the drain 🤒
Yea, it does work but having to do that, pretty much, each and every time you go to use your Cricut, gets old real quick. I even bought a new Cricut Maker 3, hoping they would have sorted all the problems out by now but no, it is just another $400 nightmare, where I am once again, spending more time trying to get my Cricut to actually work properly, than I EVER get to use it. And it's a shame.
I'm with you. Waiting on my 3rd Maker replacement. I don't believe it's going to work any better than the last 2 they sent me. Such a waste of time and money.
I've been in the habit of doing this hoping every time I start my PC (since I saw this the first time) that this will work for me, but inevitably my Cricut Maker throws error 18 in the middle of over half the cuts I try to do with it. I am seriously at my wits end. No rhyme or reason to it. PC is pretty much only used for design space and is turned off when not being actively used so it's always a fresh boot when I use it. Sometimes it works first try and fails later sometimes first cut fails and the rest may succeed. No pattern to it at all, seriously sad at this behavior of my Cricut. :(
I tried it, but mine still gets the message. What happens to mine is, it gets started to cut, but once it starts, it stops at about 6% and then after a minute or two the message 18 comes on. ugh..this is the first time I'm using it and I can't even use it. Brand new.
i have heard that tablets are not the best for the cricut, i have never personally tried it, but worth a try to clear your cache and cookies to see if it will work. i also found that if you deleted your trash folders and clean up your C drive it helps. No idea why, but it helps.
I have a problem when I connect it to my tablet that gives a message that says "The connection failed, try to set up the device from the list or call the care of the members" what can I do if I'm losing my mind 😖
I have been trying to work on a project that I need, I been on this all day long and night but still nothing works. Such a expensive machine for not working. I tried everything and also calling Cricut, but thech support never called back. I get one error or the other, disgusting!
there is another trick, make sure to clean up your computer - clean out your trash, download files, make sure your drives are not full - dump files onto an external drive. I know for me if my drives get too full then i get these errors again. hopefully that will help!
i have not personally tried it, but i would think the same principle applies, clean out all your extra files, your downloads, your open browsers, etc - cricut design space does like your device when it is full
I have spent hours with customer care with this issue and I tried this twice and still the same problem. I actually bought a new computer and cricut 3 but that didn't help. 😔
I am so sorry, it is super frustrating not being able to use your machines, i am not sure of the issue you ar having, but the only thing i can mention to do is contact cricut. I spent hours solving my issue and posted my solution to hopefully help others, i hope you find yours!
@@ErinReedMakes I had a cricut when they first come out and then they changed to no cartridges and I couldn’t find anymore and got stuck with mostly Christmas cartridges. I couldn’t afford to keep buying the new ones. I gave it to 2 sisters that we were teaching English to. I’m saving for a scan and cut.
Girl please find a hack to fix my custom dial problem. All of the others work but when I go to turn to custom well it dont pop up custom it skips it and goes back to begining. Yup did all trouble shoot that site says and cricut says and nothing work
@@ErinReedMakes i have explore air. And its the smart dial on the machine, when you turn the dial to custom it dont bring up custom it just skips it and goes to the next setting
@@RainorShine1 got ya, the Maker does not have the dial like the Air does, so I cannot help problem-solve that issue unless I have that machine, so sorry!
something is wrong in the world if we're having to clear browsing data to be able to tell a machine that is locally connected either bluetooth or usb to work, doesn't happen with 3d printers nor my laser cutters. btw stumbled her searching for red light power button for my cricut explore air 2.
Sadly, that fix only helps for one, maybe two cuts and then back to "connect your circut". I'm currently waiting on my 3rd REPLACEMENT Maker from Cricut. It's not my house and not my internet/blue tooth as my Explorer worked fine. Such a waste of $$$, time, and sanity. It truly does "make her" crazy!
i feel ya, since you are always using the internet the cookeis keep getting back in the que, so unfortunately it all depends on the amount you use your computer. i totally feel it is a default in the cricut system and it drives me nuts!
@@ErinReedMakes I ordered a WI-FI power booster and the 3rd Maker arrived. I was so backed up in projects I got right on the Maker...it lasted 3 cuts. It now no longer connects. Clearing the cookies means reloading so much info I use daily every time I go to websites. I just want my $$$$ back at this point to move over to Silhouette.
Worth a try but all 3 cords on new machines are bad? I haven't bothered making anything requiring a Cricut since last summer now. Thanks for the idea.@@connieotto9956
oh no, i am so sorry, this was for specifically a code 18 error that i get everytime - but there are about 15 codes and each had there own fix - hopefully you can fix your issue soon!!!
if your Cricut is still having issues, a full computer can also cause problems. Clear your trash, and your downloads, move some files to a backup drive, etc. I have found that having my drives filled (more than 60%) can cause this issue as well - also worth checking that your cables are in good condition :)
so sorry, i have run into the same problem and had to clean up my computer, the more files and junk i had in the downloads section , trash files, etc it prevented the program from working correctly. maybe try to clean up all the extra files and see if that helps.
i am so sorry, i found that sometimes cleaning up the files on my computer also helps - emptying the downloads section, trash files, etc - less stuff to bog down the system seems to help :)
I am so sorry, make sure to click everything to clear your cache and do the restart, i forgot to click all the boxes once and it did not fix my issue. if it still persists - please contact cricut for help. i hope you can get it working!
so sorry, this was the csolution i found for my machine, but i know ther are other issue out there too - try and contact cricut to see if they can help you!

at this point i would contact Cricut, if it is a new machine it is under warrenty and they can help!
@@ErinReedMakes exactly same issue here brand new machine! And it stops midway like 23% so annoying
Hi! My maker turn off when i want to use print and cut. heeeeelp
i would check your power plug, maybe swap it out for a different one, sometimes they go bad.
I hope this works for me.
I'm not sure if we're having the same issue! There are no error messages, and we're trying the Cricut on a Pc and Ipad with the same BS😢😢😢
i have heard that tablets are not the best for the cricut, i have never personally tried it, but worth a try to clear your cache and cookies to see if it will work. i also found that if you deleted your trash folders and clean up your C drive it helps. No idea why, but it helps.
My issue is the way the pictures are printing... I was told that I needed to change my settings
alas, this hack is to solve the time out issue
Does this not work with MacBook ?
not sure, i do not have a mac
Your the best
thank you!
I have a problem when I connect it to my tablet that gives a message that says "The connection failed, try to set up the device from the list or call the care of the members" what can I do if I'm losing my mind 😖
the device you have might not be able to connect to a tablet, it might only work with a PC
@@ErinReedMakes cricot maker rose
Does this version of the machine only work on the computer??@@ErinReedMakes
@@ErinReedMakes
It's the same version you have in the video
@@hindibrahim4923 i have only ever tried with with a PC, never a tablet, so that might be the issue
@@ErinReedMakes
Thank you so much 👍✨
I have been trying to work on a project that I need, I been on this all day long and night but still nothing works.
This problem happens on my I phone what I have to do?
i have not personally tried it, but i would think the same principle applies, clean out all your extra files, your downloads, your open browsers, etc - cricut design space does like your device when it is full
@@ErinReedMakes Thank you for reaching out. I have spent hours online and on the phone with customer support but the issue keeps happening.
Glad you fixed it but I don’t like anything cricut.
totally understandable, i tried to help others since i was having the issue, what machine do you have?
@@ErinReedMakes I had a cricut when they first come out and then they changed to no cartridges and I couldn’t find anymore and got stuck with mostly Christmas cartridges. I couldn’t afford to keep buying the new ones. I gave it to 2 sisters that we were teaching English to. I’m saving for a scan and cut.
@@shirleydesrochers4947 a scan and cut is so cool!!
Girl please find a hack to fix my custom dial problem. All of the others work but when I go to turn to custom well it dont pop up custom it skips it and goes back to begining. Yup did all trouble shoot that site says and cricut says and nothing work
I am not completely understanding, what type of machine do you have, and can you explain the problem, i might be able to find a way around it!
@@ErinReedMakes i have explore air. And its the smart dial on the machine, when you turn the dial to custom it dont bring up custom it just skips it and goes to the next setting
@@RainorShine1 got ya, the Maker does not have the dial like the Air does, so I cannot help problem-solve that issue unless I have that machine, so sorry!
something is wrong in the world if we're having to clear browsing data to be able to tell a machine that is locally connected either bluetooth or usb to work, doesn't happen with 3d printers nor my laser cutters. btw stumbled her searching for red light power button for my cricut explore air 2.
totally agree, no idea why it does it, i wish it were a simple plug and play!
I watched twice just for the happy dance
lol, hehe
@@vegascece totally understand, hugs!
Replace your chord! I had a bad chord! Runs great now!
Worth a try but all 3 cords on new machines are bad? I haven't bothered making anything requiring a Cricut since last summer now. Thanks for the idea.@@connieotto9956
Ugh thank you but my cricut is still going me the 18 error. I have deleted all cookies and restarted both devices multiple times
did you click all 3 sections to clear (history, cookies, and cashe?) if one does not work you need to try all of them. i hope this helps!
A year after, found any solution?? I have an order, and it stopped mid way through💔💔💔💔
Save this target fix
😒 I have tried this soooo many times. I keep getting the same error code. I'm so sad and I do not know what to do now!!
no sorry, make sure you click everything when you go to the cashe section before the restart, sorry sorry it did not work for you.
It didn't fix my code.
oh no, i am so sorry, this was for specifically a code 18 error that i get everytime - but there are about 15 codes and each had there own fix - hopefully you can fix your issue soon!!!
What if it still doesn't work😅🙃
if your Cricut is still having issues, a full computer can also cause problems. Clear your trash, and your downloads, move some files to a backup drive, etc. I have found that having my drives filled (more than 60%) can cause this issue as well - also worth checking that your cables are in good condition :)
Jesus lover of God THANK YOU!!! I actually was hunting for my sledge hammer to take to this machine for sure
so glad i could help!
Did not work, still won't connect
so sorry, i have run into the same problem and had to clean up my computer, the more files and junk i had in the downloads section , trash files, etc it prevented the program from working correctly. maybe try to clean up all the extra files and see if that helps.
This is not helpful if you’re using the design space application. My suggestion is try a new usb port.
if a new usb port works for you, amazing, so easy, alas it did not work for me, so i shared what worked :)
@@ErinReedMakes yea for anyone using a web browser its a fantastic tip.
Help me it didn't work😢😢😢
i am so sorry, i found that sometimes cleaning up the files on my computer also helps - emptying the downloads section, trash files, etc - less stuff to bog down the system seems to help :)
just bought a BRAND NEW Cricut and when I was trying to set it up its saying its deactivated and not in working order what do I do ?
i would contact cricut for this problem, that is not one i know or of herd about before. so sorry for your issues, that really sucks :(
Cricut machine not connecting seems to be a major problem with a lot of People.
it does seem to be an issue...grrr
is a lot all the time do the same problems ... i did after one week do again ... wow tired about cricut machine
it is a pain, and i have to still do this to my computer before i run my machine as well, :(
It's still not working for me for some reason =(
so sorry, you might try and also clear your cookies when you clear your cache - and just double check all the cabels!
@@ErinReedMakes Unfortunately, I've tried that too and it's still not working. I'm going to try a different computer to see if it's a computer issue.
@@ErinReedMakes Regardless, thank you for your video! At least I'm ruling out some things!
@@emilymangiaracina54 so sorry for the issue, i know it sucks when it does not work. I hope you can find a solution!
@@ErinReedMakes thank you 😊
Didn’t work for me
I am so sorry, make sure to click everything to clear your cache and do the restart, i forgot to click all the boxes once and it did not fix my issue. if it still persists - please contact cricut for help. i hope you can get it working!
It didn't work for me😭
so sorry, i gave a couple extra tips in the info section you can try too
didn’t work
so sorry, this was the csolution i found for my machine, but i know ther are other issue out there too - try and contact cricut to see if they can help you!
I tried all of the steps and it started to cut but went right back to that error 18
oh no, i am so sorry, maybe try to go throught hte settings again, also try contacting cricut, they may have some extra tips as well :)
Would of helped if she said save before she said restart computer. I fu*king restarted then she started shouting wait 😩 yeeeaaaah my computer doesn’t care if you shout wait
sorry, did not realzie you would act as soon as i said it, thought you may be watched the whole video first. i made the same mistake way to many times to count myself, :(
This shit is so frustrating
