Upon first sight I privately thought : why am I given a guitar solo album when I'm an avid drum freak? After only hearing the opening guitar lick to stampede I instantly thought: oh boy I've a whole lot more music styles to learn to play to! It blew me away and the influence a guitarist and his band Has had on me priceless. Thank you father for surprising me with something I'd have never sought for myself but am greatful was shown to me
Without a doubt......the most underrated guitar player of all time....deserves ten times more fame and fortune than he achieved...not saying he is a failure at all....just that he is one of my all time favorite guitarists!

When I heard of Ozzy's new live album Speak of the Devil was being released I was mildly disappointed it wasn't with Randy. But it did introduce us to Brad Gillis and his style. No one I knew was critical of Brad I think because he didn't try and replicate Randy's play. It's sort of weird but his replacing Randy and touring with Ozzy brought us fans closer to him and Knight Ranger.
Brad Gillis is like the guy you grew up with in the late 70s to mid-80s, who liked to barbeque and drink beer and jam and rock out to Van Hagar. I know a lot of guys like Brad Gillis!

Ax.......Here's an extra bit of info to fill in what you might not know. Just before Night Ranger (Ranger was their first name) formed, Brad was in a cover band called The Alameda All-stars. Their band specialized in taking requests of any rock song from the audience and then coming back and playing it the next night and doing it justice, not hacking it as some bands might do. He is what is known as a quick study. You heard him say he would play along with the radio as many musicians can do. He was able to keep up because of his personal training and music prowess was sharp, and still is.
Brad is great. Awesome guy in concert. I saw them in St Louis last year at a small venue. Some of the softer Night Ranger stuff is tough for me not to cringe, but when he soloed on Don't Tell Me You Love Me, I knew I was in the right place. Best 80"s solo ever.
I have chatted with him twice..a true pro and a helluva guitarist. He plays some crazy stuff..but the melody is there,too. The band has done some great recent music that is often overlooked.

The trick he does at 9:45 spot took literally took me out of my Randy depression. I was in 7th grade when Randy died and had recently convinced everyone I knew that Rhoads was the best (EVH was considered untouchable) by whoring out those 2 Ozzy albums as proof. I saw Ozzy during the Blizzard tour and the Diary tour had Ozzy playing in Miami with Foreigner and UFO. Randy died the day before and I was devastated. I had to stay home from school a couple of days. It was like losing a best friend and him dying in FLORIDA the day before was just too much. I first heard Speak of the Devil and Dawn Patrol soon after and Brad became God on the strength of that whammy trick NOBODY else did. I had yet to ever even play a guitar but someone gave me an acoustic at the end of 1982 so I learned a little.

This kind of music was out on the periphery, then we found Metallica and Megadeth. Then Grunge came. Now I get to go back and discover all this great stuff in my mid 40's. Still great music and musicians. I'm so inspired by this.

There is a reason why Ronnie James Dio call him to play on Hear ‘N’ Aid (Dio said he liked his style) and there is another reason why Ozzy choose him in a time that he had Bernie Tormé and even auditioned my favorite George Lynch. Brad’s loyalty to his mates in Night Ranger, took away from his heavy metal reputation.

Hi Brad, Wow interesting and funny story. Years ago we were playing a club in Dana Point Harbor California and a patron gave me his card and said to come by the studio. I didn't and about a year later we were playing a Bonnie Raitt cover tune and I was looking for the lyrics. When I flipped the album over the first thing I saw was the patrons face Fritz Richmond. True story, sad but true. Now at 65 I think I've told that story to everyone I know at least once. It's not as interesting and funny as your conversation with Ozzy's wife (or ex wife). By the way Night Ranger is one of the few bands where you have two exceptional guitarists each capable of being a star in any successful rock band.Thanks for sharing and reminding me to change my strings.Post more on how you evolved into Night Ranger.....Thanks Again.

Brad learned Randy’s part in 4 days and he felt he needed to improve a lot of the solo’s. Randy triple tracks to hide imperfections.

Kissing Brad Gillis all night was in the top 20 things that's ever happened to me. Being brought on stage by Cheap Trick and serenaded by Robin is still # 32 years later. I only kissed Brad. Ahhh what a guitar tone. Killer. And Brad knows how to play the floyd rose as very few do... although i HAVE to research more of thay specific floyd rose that he uses. It sounds like one of the best floyd rose's ever made.
I know Brad laments becoming a "ballad band" after the success of Sister Christian, but... Sentimental Street HITS just right.
Hi Brad, Wow interesting and funny story. Years ago we were playing a club in Dana Point Harbor California and a patron gave me his card and said to come by the studio. I didn't and about a year later we were playing a Bonnie Raitt cover tune and I was looking for the lyrics. When I flipped the album over the first thing I saw was the patrons face Fritz Richmond. True story, sad but true. Now at 65 I think I've told that story to everyone I know at least once. It's not as interesting and funny as your conversation with Ozzy's wife (or ex wife). By the way Night Ranger is one of the few bands where you have two exceptional guitarists each capable of being a star in any successful rock band.Thanks for sharing and reminding me to change my strings.Post more on how you evolved into Night Ranger.....Thanks Again.
