Mr. Gillis is a very UNDERRATED guitar player. An amazing guitar player with his own voice, a bunch of epic solos and other guitar parts! Very humble, One of the best for sure. Thanks for posting this interview, lt deserves a second part 👍

Well it's not that he was underated he only played for Ozzy for a very short time he wasn't well known for playing for Ozzy. I would say "not well known" in Ozzy because the time he spent was so brief a few months with Ozzy. He's a great guitarists he's more known for night ranger. He came along and surprised the hell out of people when he played for Ozzy though. He did me for sure. Learning every RR song in a couple weeks! Really? How?!
I thank you Brad Gillis, I saw you with Ozzy and Night Ranger, I had Night Rangers first album when it came out. I watched you up front and center at a concert in Sacramento, CA. I was not happy with Ozzy not mentioning you and Jake at his R&R HOF induction. Nice interview, thanks.
Brad doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his work with Ozzy. Speak of the Devil is the best live album of Sabbath material ever made. IMO he was second only to Randy in Ozzy’s guitar stable.

The guy is just freaking amazing. When people ask me who my favorite guitar player is and I say Brad Gillis, I usually get who? Dude, go do your rock homework. Brad is one of the greats.
Went to Night Ranger concert in 80's when I was 16. Caught Brad's pick which was metal. Saved up for my fist 🎸 after that concert. Now 50 years old and 12 Kiesel guitars. Brad is one of the best and does not get the credit he deserves. One of the best players out there.
I loved Brads playing on the speak of the devil / talk of the devil double live album.. made all the old sabbath songs sound new and fresh... i got to meet him at a Night Ranger Gig in Cali in 1988 ... fucking killer guitar player.. he was super nice and i was so happy to meet the guy that is super talented...and kicked everyones ass on the stars hear'n' aid video.... awesome!
I saw Brad and Jeff on a local news program in Seattle in the 80s. They were talking about the Night Ranger show saying that the kids really liked the guitar tricks. Hell yeah I was a big fan but not allowed to go to concerts, but I had a guitar and cassette of “You can still rock in America”. I learned what I could with play and rewind. Awesome interview.
Great interview...love Speak of the Devil...great..great ..tone. wish he could've made an album with Ozzy. ..has great taste and feel of a song with his solos...

If OZZY had any brains left, he would get Brad, Rudy and Tommy and do another CD and tour. That Speak of the Devil lineup was classic musicians and have a sound of their own.
Brad Gillis the only guy who sounded like Randy Rhoads. Ozzy should have done a couple of records with Brad. I was standing right next to him outside of a club in Hollywood in 91 but was too damn shy to talk to him. I wish I had. Seems like a cool guy too.
Yes he did a good job of covering for Randy on that tour after Randy died... He looked a little stiff and it looked like he had to work hard at it but he pulled it off
Dude, you are way off of key and out of tune . Jake E Lee is the only predecessor to Randy Rhoads. No one else has or came close to Randy, Thats why Ozzy picked him, Now Brad is a great guitarist and king of whammy bar antics but his greatness shined on Ozzys Speak of the Devil cd live by doing Sabbath material . Nothing beats that except Tony Iommi with Ronnie James Dio and Geezer Butler doing Heaven and Hell live, both are killer and nothing beats it at all. But Dude, wake up , no one is better than Randy -eddie is close and they are both great.
@@jamesmccracken9323 I agree Speak of the Devil is a live masterpiece. I never cared for Jake E Lee and I bought Bark at the Moon as soon as it was released. Not to say he's not good, he's very good, but I just don't care for his playing. It wasn't as varied as Randy Rhoads and missed that 'popish' element that Randy had in his playing which was mixed with classical and metal. Brad Gillis had/has that 'popish' element as well which is why was and is in Night Ranger. Ozzy was influenced by the Beatles and Ziggy Stardust among others and his vocal melodies shine when you add a touch of pop to the classical and metal, which Brad Gillis could have done writing with Ozzy if he had stayed in the band for a couple of albums. Bark at the Moon was just OK and the Ultimate Sin was not good, even Ozzy agrees with that according to some interviews I saw.

Speak Of The Devil was the first Ozzy Osbourne live album I ever got back in the mid 80's as a little kid on cassette tape. It is still one of my all time favorite live albums ever to this day. Brad Gillis did a PHENOMENAL job on that tour. I even got a bootleg CD of the show that Brad did that was released on DVD of mostly Ozzy solo songs and a few Black Sabbath songs and that one is also PHENOMENAL!!! Brad definitely did justice to all those songs and I still enjoy listening to both of them on a regular basis. Brad is definitely underrated as a guitar player big time.
I had the honour to meet and chat with his then tech Mr. Newman, He told me the exact same story on his early Mesa gear. I love the No Rest For The Wicked album and most of No More Tears album, but never cared for the majority of everything that came out after. Zack's pinch harmonics got very out of control in live concerts in the past twenty years.
Happy to hear you enjoyed the interview! As far as the mic's go, unfortunately mine was too low on my jacket so it wasn't picking up my voice :/ However, Brads mic sounds AMAZING. Can we not agree on this?
These stories ! Randy's real pedal board and amps were SENT back to the Randy's family. Randy OWNED his pedalboard and AMPS. To this day his sister owns and displays his pedalboard at her winery.
Yup, Eddie was still the guitar god at this time in the early 80's. After Yngwie hit the scene about a year later, all of a sudden everyone was doing sweep arpeggios.

Happy to hear you enjoyed the interview! As far as the mic's go, unfortunately mine was too low on my jacket so it wasn't picking up my voice :/ However, Brads mic sounds AMAZING. Can we not agree on this?
@@MastersofShred Absolutely! He's gotta be the most hyperactive guitar player out there.
Love Gillis..awesome guitar player..the floyd master..!!!!
So how did Kathy and Kelle Rhoads end up with the Pedalboard?????
That was my first intro to Ozzy. I was 10.
These stories ! Randy's real pedal board and amps were SENT back to the Randy's family. Randy OWNED his pedalboard and AMPS. To this day his sister owns and displays his pedalboard at her winery.
Lots of Eddie in his playing
Yup, Eddie was still the guitar god at this time in the early 80's. After Yngwie hit the scene about a year later, all of a sudden everyone was doing sweep arpeggios.
Brad is amazing ... learned Randy’s part in 4 days by ear...and made it better.. He is an EVH disciple I think. I heard a lot from shredders that Randy triple tracks to hide imperfections .
Eh i don't think so m8
16:20 …..Till end …. How is playing this Guitar? Does anybody know?
Pedalboard !? I know what tape they gave him.
Brad has something Eddie did not have; a great personality!
