I had this phone, unbelievably strong,, the internal memory was ridiculously low though, something like 250mb after the operating system was taken off. I thought this screen was massive at the time, got the 6.8 " s 22 ultra now, thank god Samsung pioneered large screen phones. My first phone was the Samsung V200, flip phone with a swivel camera, and the best physical keyboard, with a slope to all the keys.

The internal storage situation was so bad, that installing facebook, Whatsapp and updating the built in Apps would ruin the experience completely. After two years, it was not even worth using as a hand me down device, as it would flood the inexperienced user with warnings and crashes due to memory running out and the person you gave it to would turn back to you for advice. Even an sd Card extension hack would not bring much relieve, as part of the apps would always stay on the internal ROM. Beyond 2011 and a few behind the scenes updates to the android market or Google Play Services this device crawled to a halt.
So HTC basically made a self destructing phone and I never bought from them again…

I still have my first Android phone - HTC Desire S (successor of Desire). It still works exactly as designed. Just that I had to replace batteries a couple of times since. Mine is a LCD screen but the colours are really amazing. I remember people carrying iPhone 4S being jealous of this phone's features like amazing screen quality, Bluetooth, customisation, etc. The camera was fine for me. No complaints. The shutter was really fast so it did well for me thanks to its 1.1GB RAM and 1 GHz processor.

I just "resurrected" two old HTC phones that I found in my drawer, the "HTC Magic" which is literally the 2nd Android device ever, still charges and boots (Android 2.3.7!) and the "HTC Desire S" which is by far my most favourite version and comes with HTC Sense UI 3.6 and Android 4.0.4 and my contacts and gmail still actually worked!
HTC Sense UI design, that gorgeous elegant (weird idiotic stupid name: "skeuomorphism") 3D design that still runs smooth with all it's stunning animations. Comparing that to today boring flat-ass lack of any design (another stupid name: material design), and i'd go back to the old phone in a heartbeat!

Still have mine, in my stack of 25+ smartphones and still works. Updated to Kitkat, all apps from that time, including RUclips still work because I stopped any updates after Kitkat. Updates of all apps are bloatware designed to slow performance so you'll buy more ram and rom in a vicious circle. Windows 98 had more features and is tiny compared to 10. Cheers

For me HTC Desire Z was a pinnacle of the mobile phone technology.
    - Compact size
    - Handy physical qwerty keyboard
    - Android system
    - Great button that had also touch sensor and could be used as a touchpad mouse
    - LED diode for signalizing stuff (It was around the time that those diodes started returning to phones)
    - Battery that could be taken out and replaced with a new one bought online in just seconds
After that phone companies just stopped caring for making good stuff and started looking for ways to make more money instead, so no jack, because they get more money selling Bluetooth headphones. No access to the battery because they want you to boy a new phone and will even make sure that replacing just the battery won't be affordable. Removing more and more physical buttons because it's cheaper to produce a phone without those. (in 2021 we're down to 3 as standard, I wonder when we will have just 1 or no buttons at all).
They just want to make the cheapest device that will be able to hold the pest possible CPU, GPU and camera and people go for it because there is no other choice.
