I had a rear view cam screen installed over the top of my mirror after which the mirror would sometimes drop. The mechanic who installed it for me alerted me that from the extra weight, the mirror was loose and said that the only way to fix it would be to replace the mirror. Not only did this video help me know how to fix the problem, but it also helped me know not to go back to that mechanic. Thank you!
Glad this helps. True that some mechanics is only interested in replacement rather than repair cause that's where they get more money. I prefer to try and find methods to save money.
and you robbed mechanic's earnings, with your money he cannot feed his children, put clothes on them or send them to school or buy another house... just kidding
@@masterciefl2k The mechanic should have been honest, and the customer would have returned often. The short-time-thinking mechanic robbed himself of the earnings
You saved the day as well as my pocket bro. Just installed a mirror dash cam and encountered this problem and thought I'd have to buy a new mirror and then one RUclips search later BOOM!! You showed up and saved me. It worked like a charm, thank you.
I had a rear view camera installed in my son's car and clipped the display onto the rear view mirror. The added weight caused the mirror to drop down. This video saved me money and aggravation. Thank you!
glad it works. I was thinking if I should make a follow up video considering some people in the comment section did mention that they broke their windscreen while attempting this. Not sure what kinda muscle they have but its probably a lot.
Thanks you so much this helped my situation, I had a dash cam mounted over the original rear view mirror and the weight was heavy and it was loosened, by adding lil bit of receipt paper it got fixed
Now 2021 on this day my daughter just called to ask how to fix her loose rear mirror. And i use this very information to guide her. It really helped. Thanks a lot.
Great idea. that way it does not look obvious that there is a piece of paper there. The top portion of my windscreen is tinted so i don't see white paper at all.
Thank you for sharing this tips. Have same problem. Have mercedes 2007 r350 4mattic. Hope will fix n definitely will try this tip. Great tips. May God bless.
My 2008 Scion xB has this issue this morning and this is what I had in mind of doing except I was going to use a rubber, thin cloth, but looks like paper will work too. Thanks
i used to do that. but it just keep bugging me, so i decided to change the whole thing.. happy to see we are using the same method to temporary fix the problem!
OMG that was exactly what I wanted at the 1:25 mark THANK YOU !!!!! I have an after market clip on wider mirror 300 MM clipped onto my OEM Mirror and ONLY when Its hot outside its too heavy and the mirror slumps down. This is all I needed I am going to place some silicone in that joint to add some friction Thank you man !! Oh wait paper Hmm Maybe ... Hey your steering wheel is on the wrong side hahaha Oh crapp I saw the TC and though Scion TC Hopefully mine comes off this easily for similar repair...
Silicone might be a bit more permanent but when you move it around awhile, it will still come out and make a bigger mess. I prefer paper as its less hassle and easily replaced. The steering unfortunately came from the factory....... and my government deems left hand drive cars as illegal cars. =) I had to search for Scion TC and found out that its a 2 door Toyota..... which unfortunately is not available in my country as well..... damn Malaysia is missing out on a lot of nice cars.
Genius! Yes I can see the little cracks in the ring inside the mirror, so I'll probably replace it. But for now, three layers of a Walmart receipt and it's a lot better.
Depends on what is broken on the base. If its the metal plate that is glued to the windscreen, you can just purchase a new one and glue it with windscreen glue. If its the base arm that is broken.... gotta see whats broken and see if it can be glued back together.
Hi TC, that is a very informative video. How did you disassemble the mirror. I think I missed that part. Also, should I only use a Macdonald's receipt? Should I only use Malaysian coins? Where can I buy that shirt?
I think that's a really good idea. But mine got two issues thare at the ball but also the holder at the glass because it has a metal plate.. You know the paper in it might work. Your vídeo is simple but awesome. Thank you

I’m literally experiencing this exact same thing lol that’s why I looked it up

Better using old type of mirror because there has base on screw wich is more tighten than these cheaper-look base.
I couldn’t sleep and I’ve had this problem for a while so I decided to try to fix it and this video really helped. Thanks man
Glad you found this useful.

Genius simple hack. Worked for me! I just made the receipt smaller so it isn’t as noticeable. Saved me from buying a new mirror. Thanks bro!!
Glad it helps. Yeah, for the sake of showing in the video, i used a larger piece of paper. I folded it to half that size after the camera was cut off.
This technique is very helpful, I did it, and it lasts for over 6 years now. Greatly appreciate your video and sharing.
I didn’t know the ball n socket would split so easily. Thanks man. This was a great help. Thanks
Thanks you so much this helped my situation, I had a dash cam mounted over the original rear view mirror and the weight was heavy and it was loosened, by adding lil bit of receipt paper it got fixed
Worked fantastically for me. And of course I had a receipt in my car just like you 😂 Thank you!!

Glad it helps. I just wonder what her reaction was when you asked her to find a McDonald receipt.
You just saved me a fortune! Thank you so much for this video! You’re working wonders even years later!
Glad this video could help. I am all about saving money and sustainable future by repairing stuff instead of replacing stuff as much as possible.
How long has this hack worked out for you ? Need to know how soon/ if I need to buy a replacement 😅
Looking forward for this solution for my loose rear view mirror.thank you for this idea!😀
I have a dash cam mounted to my mirror, and every time I hit a bump, the thing starts tilting downward. This helped tremendously!
Is it effective untill today?
I'm in the same situation as you then
It works.

Thank you so much, I tried all types of things, and your idea is simple and brilliant
Thanks so much! Others did so much that wasn't necessary and you are on the mark! Simple and effective.
and cheap... sorta cheap.
Great video. I took a sharpie and made a piece of paper black, trimmed it some and using your idea popped it in and it worked great. Thanks!
Great idea. that way it does not look obvious that there is a piece of paper there. The top portion of my windscreen is tinted so i don't see white paper at all.
Worked like a charm. Thank you!

Bro thank you so much I bought a 3 series and I have subwoofers so my mirror always goes down and it drives me nuts, you save me tons $
I can imagine a piece of paper solving an otherwise costly mirror replacement of a 3 series.
You don’t know how much helpful your tutorial is! Because the shitty heavy weight my camera is hahaha!
Thanks man!
Thanks for the compliment. I really appreciate it.
Mate you deserve applause 👏 thanks
Best video ever seriously thank you

Dam bro I’m over here overthinking it on how to fix it until I found your video lmao PROBLEM FIXED!!! thx
lol, sometimes the easiest solution seems to be the correct solution. As DIYers, we do tend to over engineer stuff sometimes (most of the times)
Bro , thankyou for this tip , im glad to watch it . Tq so much
👍 Two layers of Walmart receipt did the trick! Thanks for this tip!
You are most welcome. I wished we had Walmart in Malaysia. Would have been great for a DIY person like myself.

Thank you so much for this video!
Do you know if Axia rear view also work the same way, just pull it out?
from the pictures i can find online, it is different.
Hi TC, that is a very informative video.
How did you disassemble the mirror. I think I missed that part.
Also, should I only use a Macdonald's receipt? Should I only use Malaysian coins?
Where can I buy that shirt?
I can use any regular paper or does it need to be thick paper?
regular paper is enough. If its still loose, then fold the paper and try again.
I think that's a really good idea.
But mine got two issues thare at the ball but also the holder at the glass because it has a metal plate.. You know the paper in it might work.
Your vídeo is simple but awesome.
