Tesla rearview mirror loose broken or fallen off fix

How to fix a loose or broke rearview mirror on a Tesla. This is done on a model 3 but may also work on model x, model s, and model y. If the mirror popped off or fell off the ball and socket joint, this video explains how to reattach it.

This helped me fix mine on my 2012 Mini Countryman. I ended up having to twist off the arm, split the arm plastic housing off to reveal the cable connector and disconnect it. This allows to bring the whole thing down. Then using two flathead screwdrivers, push one end of the metal ring past the collet, and the other end with the other driver. All this with the mirror laying flat on a level surface.

This doesn't work as well for my Hyundai i20. It has a very similar system, only with one very big ring that twitsts 3 times. Removing it, and popping the mirror back in, means you will NOT insert that ring back.
However, I didn't see a need to do so. The mirror still hung on tight.

the ring has a gap on it, you need to force expand the ring a little bit to make it fit into the space.

I’m having a difficult time getting the ring back over the teeth. Any suggestions on how to loosen the ring?

Paying it forward, I used a butter knife, so the flat wide part of the knife blade against the ring to be able to squish it down. Only way to get it all down, otherwise, you put one part down and other side pops up.
Won’t have to loosen ring this route. That damn ring won’t loosen
