  • This Tesla service loaner Model 3 had a rattle in the dash. I wanted to see if I could fix it. All I had handy was a pool noodle. Something black would look nice for a permanent fix! This video shows how to fix the problem by removing the speaker grill and adding foam beneath. • Tesla Model 3 - Driver...

    Mine had this too. I added a small rubber piece and push it in between the glass and the dash with the help of a credit card. Can't even see it now and problem is gone. Enjoy the car, it's owesome. I am sure service center can fix this too.

    I had the same problem but it took me way more than sliding a piece of foam between the windshield and speaker grille. I removed the pillar cover and the speaker grille and placed foams in various places. It took many tries of foam positioning.

      If was my car I would have probably done what you did. Seems like I got rid of most of the rattle, and made a big difference, but it still wasn't as good as my car. Did you finally eliminate the rattle completely?

      @@epcalderhead I think I hear something from time to time especially when it's hot outside. It's 99% gone and I'm happy enough. I lost two clips for the grille doing this and the grille looks bloated.

      On my car, not this loaner in the video, directly in front of the steering wheel the dash rattles a bit if I rap it there. The fix here did not solve that location. The only time I've heard mine rattle from this location is on a very specific type of road that's not common, that created a specific resonance. I've taken out the speaker grill and wooden dash. Not hard to do. No idea how fix eliminate the rattle I have. I'd rather do what I can than let service screw something up. That rattle from near the front left is not that hard to fix.

    Sucks we have to resort to these kinds of "fixes" in a new expensive car. Throwing cars together as fast as possible with limit concern about quality control is prob the main issue but I'm sure some basic design failures are also involved. The cheapest new Kia car will have a better fit and finish than a new tesla 9/10. But thanks to Tesla proving long range EVs are now the way forward.

    Aspy, could you be more specific on which pillar cover and do you mean the dashboard speaker grill? Is that hard to do? I'm nervous of disassembling my dashboard.

    • @xQQxAspyx
      @xQQxAspyx Год назад

      Not that hard. All you need is some prying tools. You have to take off the black cover next to the door hinges, and then the pillar cover to the left of dash speaker grille in order to get to the dash speaker grille. It gets messy once you take out the speaker grille... Clips holding the grille can fall down to A/C pathway while putting the grille back in. I lost two clips doing this.

      I test drove a Highland Model 3 recently. I found a rattle in the back passenger door. That one should be an easy fix. See ruclips.net/video/sNzeJ6qeYXc/видео.htmlsi=uzanDLLR807-2j8t&t=602 Hope they can fix your rattle. I really loved the Highland. Thought it's a big leap forward over my 3.

    What to use to fix this other than blue shape foam?

    • @epcalderhead
      @epcalderhead  Год назад

      This was a loaner Model 3. Since it had this annoying rattle I wanted to see if jamming something in there would make the noise go away or at least be more tolerable. The blue foam was all I had. I would look for some pretty dense foam that is still slightly squishable. Search for this on Amazon. It looks like it, or something like it, would work: "Adhesive Foam Padding Neoprene Foam Anti Vibration Pads High Density Closed Cell Foam Sheet, Insulation Soundproofing Black"

      That loaner 3 car was nowhere near as tight and nice as my Model 3. I think it was a few months newer than my 2019 Model 3. It's probably been ridden hard and put away wet as a loaner.
