Ok Ok, You talked me into it. I watched this video last night shortly after it was published and thought about it and decided these might be a great idea. Today I called the company to ask a question and he told me they’ve been completely inundated with orders since this video came out. Very nice people to talk to. Thanks for the info. Your videos are appreciated.
Congats to the manufacturer for coming up with these guards.
I have been a competitor for going on 3 years in police motorcycle rodeos all along the eastern United States. I've used all sorts of engine/saddlebag guard protectors. Plastic ones, metal ones, conduit insulation with duct tape, etc. I saw these and thought I'd give them a try. After using them for about two months worth of training for my next competition, I can say with complete confidence, this product is the last set of protectors I'll ever buy or need. I've dropped my full sized Harley Police Electra several times now and this product holds up to the abuse. Despite my famous power slides, these protectors hold up and still look professional, clean and amazing on my motorcycle. The thickness all but guarantees you'll never grind through a set. Additionally, unlike the metal collar type protectors that gouge the pavement when you fall, these slide and keep from leaving canyon sized scrape marks. If you plan on doing serious training to become a better rider, this product has to be on your upgrade list.
I'm glad to hear about these guards, especially the primary guard. Thanks for sharing this video.
No problem 👍
Bought two sets of these for our bikes. They're as advertised. Very well built, fit and finish is perfect. Had a hiccup with the order and only one set was sent. Jay, to owner of the company was very responsive and made it right. Had the second set in a few days. I would 100% support him and his company again!
Hey Motorman. I just want to thank you for all your informative videos. I took my Motocycle Basic Rider coarse yesterday and today and passed it with flying colors. I've been watching your videos since April of this year and going out and practicing with that information. Just wanted to let you know that you are helping a novice rider like myself.
Great to hear!
Thanks Jerry ! I took your advice and got a set. I chose the black on chrome bars so I can spray paint away the scars!
Bought a pair a month ago from Jay... was able to knock off 4’ off my u turn first trip out..no more worrying about damaging my brand new RoadKing... Thanks Jay & MotorMan
Looks extremely useful prior to my attending your class. Thanks Motorman. 👍🏼 😎 🌎
Really a GREAT product! I have them on my Indian and have put them to use while practicing my slow speed skills. NO damaged to my bike at all. Love these things...
I took the class an it was great I still need improvement but the instructor took extra effort to help me. I coach football and he definitely handled the class like a true coach
watching in Windsor Ontario Canada, I am a new rider, keep the videos coming. I might just have to purchase a set of these.
I have these in the plastic from years ago and they are great! will order these now!!
Thank you Jerry for all your videos. They are very helpful to the motorcycle riding community. Just purchased a set of these drop guards for my 2020 Street Glide Special with your code - Thanks!. They look great, were easy to install, fast delivery and great customer service by the owner Jay. For the price it is great insurance, just in case. Keep doing what you are doing - appreciate it!
Thank you.
Thanks, Jerry, excellent protection/product...will definitely order some for my Indian...you’re awesome, Motorman!
Thank you.
Just ordered some for my 24 street glide, thanks for the discount code👍👍👍
Motorman, thank you for this. I ordered a set of these and installed them on my Electraglide Ultra. I watch your videos, have purchased the Ride Like a Pro video, and attended the Osceola County, Florida, Sheriff Motor Officer instructed SMART Course. I am a LEO, but not a motor officer. Your videos are incredibly helpful and reinforced the skills I learned; moreover, added to my skills. I cannot thank you enough.
Glad to help
I bought a set of drop guards for my 2020 Road Glide (my first heavy cruising bike). They arrived promptly and packaged very well. They are super high quality. I got the black powder coated model and installation is a snap. Until now, out of fear of dropping the bike, I have been hesitant to fully commit to leaning the bike during slow speed tight turns. However, this product gives me all the confidence in the world that if I do make a mistake and drop the bike, there will be no damage. It vastly speeds up my learning process. If, like me, you are new to riding a cruiser and want to learn how to confidently make slow, tight, turns, these drop guards are a must have.
I bought a set Jerry. Thanks for sharing
Jerry, I’ve learned more from your videos than I ever thought possible.. Slow speed
turning my road glide in gravel gas station parking lots puckers my heinie!!! Do you have any advise? A video? A prayer?
Just ordered these. Thank you for the info Motorman.
No problem 👍
Just got my first Harley (Electra Glide) and it was a huge upgrade from my Vstar 650. I know I'm nowhere near as good with it as I should be and I'm getting enrolled in training next month (on top of my original MSF course that I took years ago). This is the thing I never knew I needed and I can't wait for mine to come in. Looking forward to protecting my investment and building my skills. Thanks for everything and sharing this Jerry!
About time someone came up with that. We've been putting crash bars on big adventure bikes since the first r80gs. No one likes dropping their bike. But it's sure nice to be able to pick it up and keep going rather than calling a tow truck!
Great product.. now I've got training wheels for my training wheels. *thumbs up*
Just got mine. Now 376$ dollars
Hey Jerry, I watched your video on Motorcycle Drop Guards. Being a new rider I've been afraid of dropping my Harley 2020 CVO during slow speed training maneuvers. I ordered a set of drop guards, they shipped immediately and they are fantastic! Had a question about installing guard for primary and called the company. Jay, the owner of Motorcycle Drop Guards, is a super fantastic guy. He answered all my questions. Thanks to your video and this awesome product I now have the confidence to put my bike through the paces without fear of scratching it. As far as I'm, concerned all Harleys should come with this product installed as standard equipment. Thank you, Jerry, for letting me know about this unbelievably great product.
You're welcome.
Thanks Motorman.
I recently purchased the Motorcycle Drop Guards for my Ultra Classic and installed them before a trip to Tennessee. The parts are top quality and look amazing. They are easy to install and fit perfectly.
After riding the Tail Of The Dragon, I was so glad I made the investment. My trip was a total of 1750 miles on my Harley-Davidson. I dropped my bike twice at low speed with no damage.
I highly recommend this product. From ordering to installation to actually using the Guards, I’ve been extremely pleased.
Very good idea, looks good also.thanks for the great idea.
I bought these for my ‘16 Road Glide Ultra CVO and they fit great and look good also. I think if anything was to hit in a drop it would be my foot rest on the engine guards, but they may be ok also. They are very thick stainless steel chrome looking drop guards. I also took advantage of the $10 saving but it still cost $315.01 with taxes and shipping. I’m sure it will be worth it if I drop my bike while practicing now. I’m 66 yrs old and not as strong as I once was so I need all the help I can get so I can continue to ride. Thanks To “Ride Like A Pro” for the tip. One other thing, my front guards only had two bolts holding them on instead of the 4 like in this demonstration. I think that must be a new change.
Got these a few weeks ago, best investment to protect you bike.
I just ordered a set for my 2017 Road King. I am a new rider, and want to practice slow speed maneuvers, but, have been hesitant. I will definitely feel more comfortable practicing with these on.
Good choice!
Great product thank you from The Caribbean, Puerto Rico God bless!
Our pleasure!
I was looking into purchasing these, as my bike has been on the ground numerous times, and she is pretty scratched up on both sides. Awesome on the 10% discount. Thank you Jerry! You and Donna enjoy your day! 😊
It's a 10 dollar discount. Not 10%.
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino Thank you Jerry! 😊
Damn. Wish I knew about these a month ago. Scratched up the bottom of my primary.
Thanks thats a great idea/product
Thanks a lot, Jerry. Definitely, that accessory needs any rider. Best regards to You.
You are welcome!
Just got my first big bike, gotta say seeing these drop guards gives me a little comfort. 1997 Harley Sportster
883 Hugger
First thing I'll do to my bike. Thanks motorman
About 10 hours ago, I was sitting at a rest area in California when two guys on squeaky-clean, brand-new HDs, were ready to get back on the road. Both of them duck-walked their motors backward to get out of the spot -- and one got stopped by a small bump, maybe an inch tall, where the concrete parking pad met the blacktop at the end of the paint lines. Both of the spaces to their left were empty, but instead the one guy had to park again, get off his bike and come PUSH the other one backward. They had all of the mandatory HD logo crap, and a dozen "Ain't I Somethin'?" patches on their jackets, but when I suggested just riding out through the two empty ANGLE PARKING spaces to their left, they both looked at me like I had no clue about how to ride. I suggested your channel here and your DVDs. Maybe I should have suggested these guards, too.
Just ordered mine and used your code for the discount. Thanks Motorman. Spoke to Jay, and told him you sent me.
As a side note, on their website, for those with lower fairings they suggest putting weather stripping along the bottom edge of the fairing. Also, they suggest the derby protector be used only while practicing and removed for street riding.
You're welcome, glad you got the motorcycledropguards.
Without Jerry's videos I'd haven never gotten a Harley. Thank you so much, Jerry. You are my hero!
Glad to help
not gonna lie I'm very happy with my Vulcan but i def will have a Harley some day soon.
Hi Jerry. Just to let you know that 10% code does not work as of today at least. Great video and Jay seems like a solid honest person and I'm happy to purchase from him!
Great idea!!
I have sets on two Harleys!! Unbelievable! Total confidence in practicing slow speed skills. Well done MDG!!
Do you leave the primary guard on all the time? Do you notice if it limits the lean angle in normal "street" riding?
It doesn't limit anything but damage to your bike.
Dropped the ultra twice. Both times at a stop with the wife. Didn’t have the handlebars straight. Luckily the engine and side guard bars supported it. We both climbed off and tried to smile for all the cellphone videos.
What a good idea.
You are a great biker teacher!!
Motor Man.
It's my specialty.😁
Ordered a set for myself and for my wife for my 2009 road king and her 2008 softail. They were super easy to install. I think I had all four of the outer pieces on within about 15 minutes or so and to put the disc cover piece on the bottom took probably 10 minutes total laying on my fat belly on the garage floor. Great product great quality super fast shipping they are worth every penny.
Thank you for the very positive review. We appreciate your business and support. Please ride safe and make sure you subscribe to us on RUclips and share us with your friends.
I like that idea.
I bought the drop guards and will install them tomorrow. What I can say is that they are high quality stainless steel metal and they are designed to handle any bike drop at 10 MPH and, perhaps up to 15 MPH. This product will allow me to take my slow riding drills to the next level. I currently ride a 2016 HD Limited Low motorcycle. It is in excellent condition and now I really don't need to worry about dropping my bike while trying to do tighter and tighter circles. I am shooting for 20 to 22 foot circles. Once I get there, 18 foot circles will be on the menu. Currently my skills are not good enough to consistently handle 20 foot circles but I believe it is possible as long as I can practice without fear of damaging my crash bars and primary cover.
I prefer the riding classes where they provide the bikes...crash bars on..etc, can really get loose on riding segments.
@@russmode what advanced riding schools provide the bikes? The only one that I know of is exclusively for motor officer training which excludes me.
@@williamohrt554 Harley offers a "skilled riding course" at many locations that include provided bikes.
Just put them on my 2022 Indian chieftain they look good and thank god I haven’t need the protection yet lol. Polished stainless look very good
Thank you.
You're welcome!
Wish I seen this before i bought my 6 inch suspension sliders, they'll do but I like how you get that primary guard just for those sharp turns
Hello I love your channel! I have learned so much from you!! Can these guards be installed on any Harley such as sportsters?
I put on a set today, ingenious! Thanks for letting us know about the product!
Any time!
If I had a bike with guards like that I believe I would invest in a set of those drop guards.
And some stabilisers.
Even if mine wasn’t that nice, I’d buy some! When you go to sell and the guards aren’t scratched to shit, you can say you never dropped it! LOL!!
Thanks jerry I am gonna order me some great video
Bars to protect your bars. Interesting
It protects the entire bike from being damaged or scratched in a spill/slide or a drop as shown in the above video.
I get it. Just being a smart ass!
@@davidgriego8722 I'll be the smart ass around here if you don't mind😁.
I am suprised the forward momentum does not bend the bars back potentially breaking the highway bar mounting point to the frame. Must be for use with almost no forward motion.
Hope it helps people gain some confidance.
I wonder if you can buff out scratches on the protection bars, or have to just look like a doofus for dropping your
nice new bike. :)
As soon as I receive my social security deposit I'm in. Thanks motoman
It looks like they protect more than just the bars and primary cover. Looks tho me like because of the slightly taller profile than just the bars alone it also protects exhaust and bags. Looked like for sure the pipes would have scraped
I would love to watch a V-Rod review from you! I know it’s not your cup of tea but it would be usefull for us, vrod riders! Any chance? 😅
Can say from personal experience, they're worth it.
Yes. And if you watch the video's on the web site, they clearly show they work as advertised.
Very nice
Those actually look nice. Combine the fronts with highway pegs?
want these for my 2010 Harley Heritage
Jerry how is it you have 85,815 views on this video and 43 thumbs down and just a few dumba!! remarks. I guess we can definitely tell who the doofus duckwalkers or rather Dumba!!'s are in the comments. LMAAAO! Thanks for sharing Jerry, I received mine 3 months ago and you are absolutely right! Definitely the best accessory ever made for a Harley! I have finally learned slow speed turns and all without damage. Unbelievable!
I dropped mine moving it in the garage. I was on the right side and the stand tapped the ground and went up. With my bad leg, I couldn't get over it from that side, so I "laid er down." I didn't think I had any damage, but now you're going to make me go look at the primary.
I did put my foot thru the wall trying to lift the damn thing. Missed the stud by a hair. Ya got any wall guards?
That made me chuckle!!!!
No chrome was harmed in the making of this video.
Brilliant. I love it. I have a street glide, so no saddle bag bars tho. I guess I could find some aftermarket rear bars?
H.D. makes rear bag guards for all Street Glides. And there's ebay for used ones.
I got some new off eBay for $80 for my 2020 sgs
Thank y'all for the input. I'll be checking that out
Awesome thanks Jerry, do you know if the primary guard fits the Indian Motorcycle?
You need to bring your course to TN I would sign up for it in a heartbeat
Go to ridelikeapro.com and click on training locations for the RLAP school nearest you.
Just bought saddle bag guard bars for my RGL this week at Harley-Davidson these cost almost twice what the bars cost me. Be the same to buy the bars again later after I’m done learning.
The Motorman is a true gangster, laying his bike on its side so he can work on it! 😎
That’s what I was thinking. Like who needs a lift haha!
Awesome
Very nice!!! :)
wow i wonder if i can get if for my 2020 street bob
Very good ,but cannot get rear guards for a 2002 FLSTF. So can only use front and primary
Not sure yet but their website may have a small mistake. The primary guard says 2016 and up Harley-Davidson Touring. I have a 2016 limited that has a twin cam. 2017 and up went to Milwaukees. I think they might have meant 2017. I ordered a set. I guess we will find out. Thanks Motor Man I have bought many good products based on your suggestions, including your videos. I would love to come back and let everyone know for sure.
It was 2016 when the primary case was changed. That change made it so the primary case could strike the ground in a drop.
Awesome product! Definitely will get a set for my '13 RG. But I have a Lindby engine guard on my '18 RG--will this work on Lindby guards?
It should.
wish I came across this before I dropped my HD Road Glide in my drive way.
This is exactly what I was looking for! I recently put rear guards on my road king so my wife could try it out from her honda shadow. I was worried about scratches and started looking at wrapping them in leather to protect it. This is even better as it includes the primary cover. My only concern would be the torque applied to the primary housing during a drop. Ording these so I can finally let her try riding in the parking lot. Thanks for showing this and also demonstrating drops not just how to install them.
Good idea but ugly up front
@@moeroy4330 Yeah I like them for the fact they will be easier to remove than leather wraps. I look at them more as a temporary solution for my wife to try and/or to try leaning the bike. I used a blanket for the first time trying to lift a bike up as I set it down in my driveway. The blanket made it more difficult to pick up and I would like to try it normally. 25 years of riding and "knock on wood" I have never dropped a bike even with the stupid tricks I did on my dirt bikes when I was younger so I never had the chance of picking one up.
No Harley here. I just like Palladino's videos regardless of subject.
Ian Mackenzie in case I ask anyone travelling if and when it opens up only Hod knows when
Looks great but I read the fine print in the PRODUCT LIABILITY section:
It is highly recommended and advised to remove the primary indicator for street riding as the indicator is just that, an indicator of lean angle for training in slow speed controlled maneuvering.
Primary Indicator - Please Be Advised Will affect the lean limit of the motorcycle
Is that just legalese CYA or can these be left on? Looks like in normal riding there is still plenty of lean angle. Jerry, what is your opinion? I'm not being a wise a$$ but these are a bit pricey for me if I can only use them for low speed practice.
I have a set on my E/Glide and have no problem doing an 18x 36 figure 8 without the primary protector touching the ground.
Thanks for the info. I recently picked up a new FLHTP. Thanks for recommending it and RDRS. I'm an older rider and want to make sure I keep it in good shape. I'm looking forward to Covid to settle down and get back to Florida to visit family and take one of your courses. Last class I took was MSF experienced rider in 1988. Your videos have been a great reminder as I have had some "dufus" moments recently. Thanks again!!!
Hey Jerry, is that a Rode wireless Mic? How do you like it? Great content as always!
Yes it is. It's a Rode wireless Go. And works very well even 200 ft from the camera.
Can these for on any harley with guards? I went on the website and it only said touring and i have a softail. Great videos btw!
Wait; you dropped a bike?😉 Seriously though, these look like an outstanding product.
Well now there is a very important safety consideration that I would like to have had mentioned in the video,. The foot boards must still be able to touch pavement, and articulate somewhat, before the new guards scrape pavement. Otherwise, in a highway-speed turn the bike could be levered off of its traction, resulting in a high speed low-side accident. I often scrape a little board during tight turns at speed, and I'd hate to have the ridged-mounted guards touching down before the articulating foot boards.
In other words; with these guards all mounted, what part of the bike is now limiting the lean angle? It had better be the foot boards on both sides. The fact that this was not even mentioned concerns me. The design of the bike should be such that the boards hit the ground first, then fully articulate, then the crash guards hit ground. Altering that sequence could be very dangerous.
It doesn't look like this effects lean angle that severely, but I was wondering about that and my though is since it takes only 30 minutes to install, leave the primary guard on and install/uninstall on the days you want to practice your low speed stuff.
The floor boards still touch the ground first, the same as before, then the bracket then the primary protector.
Perfect! Thanks, Jerry, for what you do. I haven't taken your classes but I consider myself a better rider for having seen your videos (and dropping my 700+ lb Vulcan a few times practicing your techniques)! I can now easily out-maneuver some of the long time riders I've been taking rides with lately. Confidently scraping board in the Harley dealership parking lot definitely turns the heads of the old timers!
I use mine mainly for slow tight turn practice on my Streetglide? I fear an excessive lean in normal riding would have no warning of excessive lean angle, from floorboard scrape, which would mean a hard part hitting, subsequent tire lift leading to a fall (at normal riding speed this would not be good). Is there something to add to floorboard to ensure an excessive lean warning?
Overall a Great product and great company.
First the floorboards touch down. That's the warning. Then the floorboard mounts hit. That's when you can lever a tire off the ground
Will they work if you have lower front fairings?
I wish I had these a week ago
Hi Jerry, the drop guards!!. do they fit on any crash bars or just for Harley? what is the size in diameter can it fit? Thank's
Great tip Jerry, thanks. Just had a chat with Jay and I have a set of the large black guards winging it's way to the UK soon. Jay was worried that International shipping charges make his product too expensive. I explained that outside the US we don't have access to many of the after market innovations that you guys do in America. We are happy to pay a premium for items that are not developed and not available over here.
We have no training schools offering instruction up to your standard here so we have to distance learn and practice as we go along. Some of the schools here specifically say they don't teach the rear brake method here as it's bad for the clutch :). I throw that in as It will give you a laugh!
My buddy has a new CVO Ultra and I've passed on the recommendation. Thanks again
Hi, Sorry to bother you. i am in the UK and am looking at these. Did they ship ok. Thanks
@@markfisher9987 yes they arrived fine. Great pieces of kit, well made and look great on the bike.
I understand there is a problem with supply right now related to steel shortages, not sure if that’s still the case. If you can get your hands on a set go for it.
I don't have the back saddle bag guards.
What if you have forward fairings on your front crash bar
But do they have crash bar protectors for the crash bar protectors?
Y'all know those bedliner sprays pick up trucks have? What if we coated the drop guards with those?
Very nice!! These are fantastic!! Thanks for sharing! Pretty darn pricey. yes cheaper than a set of crash bars but really??? $285.oo Hmmm!
349 now and 379 with shipping.
Keeps you spending money on things you don’t need with money you don’t have. They will come out with covers for the drop guards next year for $275. Keep em comin Jerry.
It's a good thing we're not forced to buy anything... shwooooo it's still the choice of the individual. Shwoooo thank God!!
So, crash guards for your crash guards?
Do they make the primary drop guards for Harley Sportsters, I can't find them, if not what would you recommend for the Sportster 1200 Custom? Thank you.
