You may be asking yourself, who are PRELOADERS?
    PRELOADERS:
Subscribers to this channel who are dedicated to being proficient in slow speed motorcycle operation.
    What does PRELOAD mean?
    PRELOAD:
Engaging the throttle to raise the RPM’s (revolutions per minute) above idle and holding the throttle there, with the clutch pulled in (no power to the rear wheel, “in reserve” “PRELOADED”). This process will make power to the rear wheel available to the rider immediately when the clutch is opened up. There’s no need for the rider to be concerned with twisting the throttle for power because it’s already PRELOADED.

Robert, i have always ridden Honda Shadows, after my 50th birthday, i had a heart attack and took a year to recover from it. during this time i worked out, changed my diet, the works. on my one year anniversary of being blessed to still be alive, i decided to get a Road King FLHRI, first day, dropped it, two days later when i got the nerve to try again...dropped her again. of course having rode bikes for years, my ignorance allowed me to become afraid of this bike, and doubt my strength. that was until i found your channel and learned that it wasn't the bike...it was me and my habit of panic front braking. i have been practicing the techniques you and the preloaders use, and now i am on my way to becoming the boss of King....thank you very much, and ride strong Robert!!!

First, let me say that my husband and I love your videos! We appreciate all you do to help us riders be better riders. As for this video, I wanted to comment that I have these drop guards on one of my bikes. Just knowing these are on makes me feel better in the event I drop my bike. Full disclosure: I can’t do a lot of push-ups so dropping my bike is out of the question!

Thank you Robert, I'm still looking for drop guards for my 93 Yamaha Venture Royale. the stock ones protect the engine and saddlebags no problem. But allow the Fairing to go all the way down to include the mirrors and clutch or brake levers depending on the side that's dropped. Ithe guy I bought it from dinged both sides, Then I dropped it in loose one inch minus rock. The bike was totally stopped with the engine off, But the handlebars were turned right a little and over she went. Other than another scratch and a broken rib no problem but with it flat on the ground to the down hill side of the driveway, It took two of us to pick the old girl up. Yes I did my push ups broken rib didn't stop me, but it is stopping me from getting it up on the center stand unless I'm on pavement or concrete. Thank you for all your advice, stay safe and keep your powder dry.

Glad to see you finally got these installed Robert. I mentioned them as well to you months ago, when I bought mine prior to the advanced cone class I took. The owner, I also talk to on the phone for a while, like you he's a motor officer, very nice guy and a passion for motor cycle safety. Thanks for showing people how to pick up a HD touring bike, I had to learn this technique before I did my class, and I needed it because I dropped my RoadGlide a good 5 times in that class. Those drop guards are absolutely worth every penny. I would like to point out a couple small notes. When you pick the bike up from the low side, gotta make sure it's in first first thing, if you try picking it up in neutral you'll have a hell of a time. Second, don't pull in on that clutch from the low side, or the above statement will still be the same in neutral or any gear. On the high side, squeeze the front brake, (I guarantee this time it's okay Preloader, lol) (I know you already know that but your Preloaders may not). Lastly that primary guard, your preloaders need to know that is for PRACTICE only. The crash bars I think it's safe to say I'll leave mine on period but the primary, if you get into tight twisty and you're clipping along, you're lean angle is way less, so you will be grinding that thing and possibly have a bad day so take the primary guard off if you are not practicing!

The motorcycle drop guards are great. They are a fantastic product and I love em!
Only one issue I had was with the rear saddle bag guard. Because the drop guards are supplied with a large nut on the back this becomes a point of contact for the paint on your saddlebag when you unlatch it and go to remove it. Only way I could stop it scratching the paint was to transpose the fitting and put the nut underneath and the domed head adjacent to the saddle bag.
I know if I drop it the hex nut will get shaved but rather that than the paint get scratched when I remove my saddle bags.
If they could use a domed nut top and bottom that would be sweet. I know these engineers can sort that 👍

Lol .. this is so true… practice every day… I have a routine, I keep my bike in a heated storage facility and it’s ideal.. when I get on the bike, I always do a few u-turns in the parking lot.. then down the road there are several office buildings with big parking lots.. I always run through them, I use the dividers in the lot as my obstacle course.. and I always rip through all of them.. doing tights turns, stop and go.. etc… it’s fun and it’s a nice warm up for before I hit the freeway .. no matter how long you have been riding.. you can screw up.. it’s always best to warm up in a area that’s free of moving vehicles….

Just ordered the bag protectors from HD and then ordered the Drop Guards above, but they are on backorder, so no telling when they'll make it here. May have to wait until next season to start doing specific training exercises. My CVO's saddlebags are $1300+ EACH to replace (JUST the lower portion, not the lids), so spending the $500 to protect BOTH was a smart investment. Thanks for the video.

Well if anyone is considering buying these, I christened mine today finally and I can attest that they work. Practicing u-turns in a parking lot on a 2022 Road King. Turning left. Tried to lock it out for the turn for the first time and just didn't have the throttle/clutch mix quite right before I committed to the lean and she was down before I even had a chance to realize what was happening. Got her right back up using the step into it method Robert shows in other videos. No big deal as I'd practiced picking it up before as well.
The frame portion where the footboards connect took a beating and there are minor scrapes on the drop guards, but no damage to the primary or primary guard. And the drop guards remain robust as shit. None of it's visible. Got right back up and tried a few u-turns that weren't quite so tight to shake it off and then I headed off to dinner.
$400 well spent to not ruin my engine and saddlebag guards in one go. They work.

    Hi Robert
I bought a Harley 72. Haven't rode in 40 years. I am still in the drive way working on the preload and rear brake one foot down. I don't want to be doing the Kermit the frog legs. I have ordered crash bars and other items to keep the bike from getting messed up. It is a used bike but who ever owned it did not put a scratch on it. I am more afraid of hurting the bike than my self at slow speed.
I think these items will take the fear out of messing up the bike and I can move forward.
You are a great teacher. Keep up the good work.

I have these drop guards on my bike. They’re worth the cost. I dropped my bike several times this last weekend while doing low-speed turning practice in a parking lot. Having these guards on the bike alleviate the worry of dropping my bike and allow me to get more aggressive when practicing. I can U-turn the width of two parking spaces now and these guards helped to build the confidence to keep trying even after dropping the bike. Note that the lower/outward edge of lower fairings can still slightly contact the pavement and get slightly scraped. Though, it’s not too bad. I have to get way down low to see the scrape. Great video as always!

That bike is so nice! I ride an Aprilia RSV4 and have done a few track days and I really enjoy it, however, my slow speed riding is not so good, it's about a 3. I have dropped my bike several times at a stop sign and had to get assistance from people driving by to get it up. I also had the bike lowered so that my feet touch the ground, got tired of being that girl who always laying her bike down at a stop light causing traffic delay. I am thinking about purchasing a Harley and I know the ride is different but I want to build more confidence before I do so. I use my rear brake a lot because it feels as if the bike is squatting and it allows me to sit in the seat when slowing down. I have learned so much from your video's especially this one. Thanks for all of your great video's!! 👍🏿

New Subscriber. Stumbled onto your channel when I did a search for 'Harley Drop Guards.' I bought a 2022 Road Glide Special a month ago. I stepped up from a Sportster Custom XL1200C. I was very comfortable doing slow speed maneuvers on the Sporty. I've ridden motorcycles for most of my life. The RGS is my first really heavy bike. I'm only 5'6", though, and don't have a lot of leg to spare and know that if I have to put my foot down in a turn that I'm probably going down. I'm still scared of dropping her in slow-speed turns, and have avoiding practicing for that reason. In fact, I dropped her a couple weeks ago, making a U turn on a slanted surface. First thing that i did for my new RGS was to install saddlebag guards. A couple days ago, a friend suggested that I get drop guards, too, which I'm going to do. Anyway, having watched this video, I can tell that your content will be good for me, as I get more comfortable with slow-speed maneuvers with my RGS, and having the drop guards will allow me to practice with less fear of dropping it.

Thank you for the response and for your willingness to share your riding knowledge and experience with others. How can I find those exercises that you referenced (warm up, and exercises 1-3)? I went through your various play lists, but those exercises didn't jump out at me. When warmer weather comes back around, I imagine that I'll try to attend one of your riding courses (I just joined your VIP). I did take the MSF Advanced Riding Course at my dealership (Redstone HD, in Huntsville, AL) earlier this year, on my Sporty XL1200C, and am a believer in F2F instruction and riding exercises/practice. Several of us in my HOG Chapter plan to get together during the winter for some slow-speed riding practice, too. Several in my HOG Chapter are MSF instructors. I am amazed with the riding skills of Motorcycle Police Offiders, like yourself.

You're in Georgia? If you get anywhere near Marietta let me know. I've been riding for decades, but never for PD work. Still...because I ride I was made 'Motor Sergeant.' We had BMW motors.....I've been riding Harleys forever....never even sat on a BMW. Major sent out a note: "Open house tomorrow. Set out one motor for display." I went down to move the bike......couldn't even find the 'on switch.' Had blue lights and sirens going...but no motor. Had to call a retired motor copper to tell me how to start the thing.

Robert, suggestion, take the protectors off and hit the scraped area with some touch up paint or black finger nail polish or the bar will rust over time , when paint is dry reinstall the guards

Great tips, any rider not following them only shows their contempt for care and safety of themselves and their bike. Doug🏍️👍

Great video. The message can't be repeated enough. I ordered and installed these for my 21 Ultra Limited back in April but I DID NOT install the Primary Cover guard. Last week, after pulling in the garage, stopping, and being distracted before I dismounted, I neglected to put the Jiffy Stand down and yes it fell on the left side. The motorcycle drop guards actually lift the bike up and my primary cover didn't receive any scuffs from that drop. I'd like to learn your riding experience with Primary Guard in place since you frequently achieve the limits.

Hello James, I have had quite a few calls asking me about questions on this video so I stopped by to read and try to answer questions related to the drop guards. The primary indicator can be used for turns up to 18 feet with no issues. I get asked about why we say only up to 18 feet, but we show making less than 18 foot turns on our videos on our website. It is possible without issue, BUT there is technique and control involved to make those types of turns I do without contacting the indicator as I teach my students. We now have a brand new low profile indicator now being released that will not affect the lean angle and 16-17 foot turns will be easily made with no worry of the primary making contact until floorboards, floorboard brackets and jiffy stands are all ground down such as competition riders do, unlike the first generation primary indicator meant only for training. You don't need to do that for everyday riding. Hope that helps and please feel free to call with any questions.

Hey Rob first and foremost, maaaan those are some beautiful bikes you’ve collected there, and I really enjoyed the video as well. Man I wish I lived closer towards your way I’d definitely hit you up for a few classes. But Marietta is a nice drive to where your located but I’m sure practicing with you in person would surely build my confidence level even more. I ride a street 500 hundred as my first official motorcycle and she’s a beauty in my eyes and dropping and damaging it is the one thing that does bother me whenever I go out to practice. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on it doing mods, because I’m planning on purchasing a Spyder F3 SE6 due to primarily health reasons. But I won’t be trading in or giving up my Harley lol 😂-Thanks again broskee, Preciata Ya 💯👍🏾
