Part 1: • Toyota 5VZ (3.4L) Timi...
Crank Pulley Holding tool: • 5VZ Crank Pulley Holdi...

Continental Timing Belt (Pro Series PLUS) Kit: amzn.to/38fZ0jI
Toyota FIPG: amzn.to/2E1cNNg
Toyota dealer p/n 00295-00103 is what I used in this video, but the FSM actually recommends Seal packing: Part No. 08826−00100 or equivalent... I am determining this to be the equivalent ;)

Thank you for clearly posting part #..it's always helpful especially with all the variations and I'd also believe Continental is a great brand name is great for serpentine belts also
i dont mean to be offtopic but does anybody know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the login password. I appreciate any help you can offer me
@Miller Cory instablaster :)
I keep rewatching your videos. It's like the idiot's guide to vehicle repair without making people feel like idiots. I feel like this is my new ASMR. Thanks!
Due to the high cost of taking my truck to a repair shop, I decided to replace the timing belt myself. Your videos were helpful and took away some of the anxiety of doing this repair for the first time. Thanks, and keep making videos!
Obsession is what lazy people call thorough. Great work as always Faye!! Found myself holding my breath as you torqued the crank bolt........click!! Girl power!!
Thanks for posting this. I just did the timing belt on my 2002 4Runner. Belt broke while driving and was happy to find out that the 3.4 is a non interference engine. Autozone carries the complete kit as well if you need one ASAP . You are awesome and your videos help . Keep them coming 😊
Hey man, I know this is an old post but do you remember how many miles you had on it when the belt broke?
@@stokular I no longer have this vehicle but I think I had about 240,000 on the clock . I know when I sold the truck it was at almost 300,000
Same happened to me. It didn't break, it shredded to crumbs. It was a miracle it was driving in the first place.
I just did this job using this video and it was super helpful. Thank you for adding in the torque specs and the magic driver extension combo. Could not have done this job without your videos. ❤
Faye, I watched my father assemble and rebuild engines. I remember how thorough he was.
I can honestly say I find your videos very helpful and exactly how he would have done things. Its refreshing to see someone like yourself who is fun informative of course beautiful, and very knowledgeable. Keep up the great work. Kind regards from New Zealand.
Those wobble extensions really are life savers lol I normally still use mine even when the situation could work with normal extensions..
I wish I'd seen this before I did the water pump on my car - the explanation of the variety of tools you used to clean the gasket surface would have been very helpful to have when I was buying stuff ahead of the job. I'm sure I'll need to clean a mating surface again at some point, so thanks for that!
Excellent job Faye. I attempted to do my 98 4Runner and was not able to get the pulley off. It was like not bolts were the correct thread. That was many moons ago. I swallowed my pride and Thad the shop finish it :/. I sold my 98 4Runner, one of the spark plug was under water, yet it still started. 360k. Awesome truck. I just bought a 2001 SR5 4Runner, and I will attempt to do the timing belt job soon. Again thanks for your excellent video, and the cameos by your talented chickens.
Props for the excellent lighting. Out of all the 5VZ timing belt videos I've watched yours has the best lighting and videography.
Wow, thanks! I worked really hard on this video so I really appreciate that!!!🙏🏻
Faye one mechanic to another you have done a great job with your instructional videos, can’t beat that laugh 🤣 haha ,
You rock!
My 2004 Tundra is sitting outside right now with a broken timing belt. Your video is the second one I watched. The common element that sticks out is the problematic tensioner bolts. They are the ones that often are stuck and get damaged or broken during removal. I will start with wd-40 on all bolts that I have to remove. Thank you again.
Both part 1 and 2 of this(these) video(s) are extremely helpful. Faye is a babe and knows her stuff. Danks Faye!!!
Thank you!!!
@@FayeHadley aye thank you lady! Glad you like the 5vz fe enough to put a video up.
As I have said many times, I love watching you do anything.
Nobody hates watching your vids. Its awesome watching a girl work on a truck with so much talent and kick ass personality. And it don't hurt that you are pretty .
Great video, Faye. I appreciate the fact that you use genuine Toyota sealant and actually torque the fasteners. That's the RIGHT way to repair cars! That crank pully holding tool is pretty ingenious too. Keep up the great work.
I'm from Saudi Arabia i did it with your instructions fun. thanks 🙏👍👍👍
Thanks for the video. I was installing the timing belt on a 1997 Tacoma and was thrown by the crank shaft belt marks. I watched several videos trying to figure it out and my book shows it going straight down from TDC. Nobody showed the position of the crank belt mark and I was consistently coming up 45 degrees clockwise from TDC. Watching your video I caught one glimps of the mark at 45 degrees clockwise from TDC. Upon looking closely at the crank sprocket I saw the dimple! I installed the belt and rotated the crank many many times and all my marks came up perfect ever time. Thanks again. Keep the vids coming.
I'm so glad it was helpful!!! That's amazing!!
I'm glad you didn't forget to show us the 🐔:) so cute! Thanks for another awesome video!
My 11 year old son inherited his grandmother's 4runner, same motor. He was excited to rip in and change fluids.....but she just did every fluid. After this video he knows what he is doing this summer. Thanks for including torque specs! Now he just needs a chicken.
Very nice, clean work. Again. Thanks. I'm ready to go...........Need to look for that bypass on the water pump. btw Continental's definition of "Arrow facing out" has now been redefined by Faye. New definition: "Continental lettering facing out". You know, after watching 3 of your video's it is so clear how much you love wrenching and how rewarding it is for you. That will last your whole life. I can promise you that.
Awww I appreciate this feedback so much, thank you thank you!!!!
I love your dark sense of humor! I am sure that this won't be the first or the last time you hear this! Your a good mechanic and make great videos Faye!! Rock on!!
I did a 01 4Runner a while back and discovered someone before me tightened the tensioner pulley bolt so hard the threads stripped out of the oil pump housing. It was nothing a heli-coil and some foul language couldn't fix.
Also - I'm in the habit of applying anti-seize to any bolts/studs that clamp stationary items, eg., those for water pump and timing cover. My obsessive use of corrosion inhibitors on hardware is due to the extreme conditions present in the rust belt, and that a lot of our customers keep their cars forever. So next time around I'll be doing the job without hardware struggles.
Any steel bolt into aluminum gets AntiSeize.
Great ideas!
Good comment!
Thank you Faye for all the time and effort this took!
I've never had good luck with those stickers. The ink always fades or washes off when I clean the engine bay. I usually pick an area of clean paint, such as the radiator support or fender, write the info with a sharpie, and spray some clear coat sealer over it.
Yes, I stayed for the "secret scene" at the end.
Thanks, Faye.
Those stickers usually come with a clear tape to put on top after you write all your info also makes it tamper proof
This is great... Pro level instruction for my timing belt/water pump replacement... The scenery in this video is also excellent as an added bonus...
Thx Faye for this video. I DIDN'T listen to your warning about cleaning water pump gasket as OCD as you did...and after all back together the water pump leaked. SUCKED! I'm an idiot! Haha! Anyways for others.... LISTEN TO FAYE! I did get this tool and to worked GREAT on my 2nd time redoing it. Love ur vids. THANK YOU!
Appreciate that timing video!"" Great timing Mrs. Faye!🔧👍
How can anyone not like your videos i love them
Haha they do like them that's why they're watching them!! They're just triggered or something
Your videos are so helpful, especially since I own a MK2 Jetta and a 3rd gen 4runner. You've been a life saver!
Once I had to get the flywheel off of a Hyundia Excel, so I dropped the oil pan and put a piece of a 2x4 between the crankshaft and the block. It worked like a charm.
I don't even own a Toyota, but found myself watching. IDK, timing belt jobs for some reason always interest me.
Thank you Faye for your videos! They are always very helpful and very clear. I admire your perfection and attention to detail. Keep them coming.
How could anyone hate watching your videos? You are a sweet person Faye. And I've never heard a torque wrench that makes that sound. Weird. But nice video. Toyota did such a good job with that engine.
Harbor freight special haha 😂 or did you mean my foul language?! Haha
This video was very helpful to me as I am in school atm becoming an Automotive Technician and we’re currently doing engine rebuilding and engine particles and this video was amazing!!!! I freaking love your videos and just love your workman ship and your fabulous energy!
Im doing in the morning. Thank you for the walk through
I cant get the harmonic balancer off. I have a big 3 claw remover and 2 long wrenches heat and penitrating oil. I took out the radiator. I can turn the engine now with the puller, im scared im gonna break something. I also used the breaker bar on frame and bumped the motor to break the harmonic bolt. Thats scary. If i cant get it tomorrow im going to have to reassemble and go to a professional. Thank you again for the great video.
Honestly u should go all in on the you tube and find somebody to follow u and record for u and there is no way u won’t have a million followers in a year... u r free spirt and how well u come a cross and how wonderful u look I never voice my opinion on these videos but I hope someday u make it big cause nice free people like yourself always Britten everyone’s day and this world needs more of that I do hope all is well for u and wish u nothing but the best
Thanks Faye, big smiles from Northern Canada!
@16:50 kudos for mentioning the fact that the timing marks on the belt will never line up with the timing marks on the crank and cam gears once the engine is turned. Had a guy once who was in a panic about that, and I liked to have never been able to convince him that the marks on the belt weren’t that important once the belt was on, that what was important was that the timing marks on the crank and cam gears lined up with the timing marks that were stamped/cut on their respective “back covers” once the engine was turned over a couple of times.
I like the Aisin kits.
montefiveforty1 your right, on my 2002 4Runner I bought from aircabinman from eBay.
That kit looks quality. I like it was made in Japan. Great quality work, too .
You make it look so easy!
Well, thank you! Helps that I've done this quite a few times :)
@Faye Hadley @8:22 One warning people should have about using FIPG on a water pump (the reason it says for oil pans only). If a person puts too much gasket goo, then it can squeeze out of the edges, both on the outside and on the *inside*. On the outside it obviously doesn't do any harm, but if it squeezes out on the inside, then then rubber-like globs will eventually break off. Once free in the coolant, the chunks will flow with it until it gets stuck in a restriction, typically the little passages in the radiator core. This happened to me on a 3VZ-E in a 4Runner after having a shop do the belt & pump... Some of the the FIPG chunks were visible through the radiator cap, plugging the radiator passages (there were a LOT, & appeared to have been chopped up by the impeller), which contributed to an overheating issue... and maybe a blown headgasket, although that may simply have been the 3VZ :-). Great videos btw, I may tackle my 03 Tacoma 5VZ belt/pump after watching this. Keep them coming!
Great job. You are smart to buy the longer torque wrench to tighten the crank nut. 215 lbs is no fun with a shorter wrench. My favorite part is when you pulled the pin . My 2002 tundra will need this again soon. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Faye! On my way to finishing my 01 4Runner replacement! 282,000miles original water pump and belt! Couldn’t believe it was original! Team Toyota!! Got lucky!
TEAM TOYOTA!!!!
Got done earlier today! Was totally easy with your guidance! Thanks again!!
YES! Thank you for very enjoyable and high quality reference material. You kill it!
Thank you!!!
Almost looks like fun. Almost! ;) That's going to be one happy truck.
Although I don't own a Toyota yet, I learn something new with every video you make. You made the gasket application look easy, applying makeup counts as practice. Finally, you answered a long burning question, smooth side versus rough side of a washer. Finally, one of my first toy/tools was a torque wrench. Figured out how to use it, it was a sigh of relief to put a number on just how tight things should be. Happy Day, Happy Faye, Happy Chicken
Just one thing ive notice that you didnt mention the keyway on the crank to match with the pulley...but still sUUUUUupper beautiful! Love it
Was interesting to watch a different technique than I was taught for removing/torquing that crank bolt. I'll have to look into making that tool just to have around.
Those 90° pliers are the bestest! 😍
Great video!
I used to wrap masking tape couple times around the regular swivel to limit the wobble :)
It works. Masking tape is great because it holds the position as you're approaching your target.
I managed to stumble across your videos in the youtube suggestions and you make very good videos. Your overdubbed commentary is a pleasure. You're also the most handsome mechanic I've ever seen!
Dont waste your time showing us how to remove the rest of the thing and reinstall them. Obviously, we're here to watch the timing belt section and of course you Faye😁
Thanks for showing.
Fun to watch. I was so afraid of the last torch at 217 lb. Didn’t want to see you break that bolt. Nice work.
Augh me too!!!
As always excellent content with always positive and happy energy! Thank you again
Awesome job Faye!!! you make working on cars fun your sense of humor is awesome. You make an intimidating job easy your videos are much appreciated by the world. Don't forget to give your chicken and yourself a treat you deserve it
You have such a great personality and demeaner. Thank you
Thank you!!!
Your video is much better then the one I watched before changing my timing belt.
Great job, thanks for sharing.
Well done Faye- very thorough
Awesome video... Love the attention to those annoying hidden bolts and gotchas!
I really enjoy watching your videos, detailed and accurate. A lot of great information, keep up the great work and videos.
Thanks great video and it looks like you are having fun !
Thanks Faye. You make it look soo easy. Watch your hair around machines. My friend had a hunk of her scalp yanked out by a drill press! Yikes.
You are greatest instructor ever
Great vid Faye, you got skills young lady
Thanks for part 2 Faye! Psyching myself up to order my kit. Just about to hit 99k on my '98 Taco... Have seen a 60k interval recommended for first gens...oops! I'll just claim I do everything at 150%!
Thanks Feye...you are awesome!!
Awesome videos! Just got a 4runner "just came across your channel" and I'm a DIYer for most things and your vids are a great help & knowledge. Thx
Great job and liking the style!
Love your work Faye
Great video as usual, very informative, glad to see how to check parts. How to clean, apply the sealent. And I happen to see you on the news. Way to go, keep it up.
Hey Faye - one of your other videos you commented on having to turn off your Facebook comments because of some of the BS... and you turned off the comments for that vid on YT as well (the CV boot vs. axle). Sorry the haters ruined it for for you.
Nothing wrong with women-only classes!
As I am a firearms instructor (yes, I am a guy), I absolutely see the value in gender-specific classes... some guys just want to be dicks / intimidate people in a class, regardless of the subject. I will make no excuses for those jerks.
Keep doing what you do - I love the vids!
I would definitely enjoy watching the entire video great job you made it look easy
Thank you so much for making this video. You explain things really well. One thing I really like is the high quality of your videos. The audio is really good. I have a hearing deficit, but can hear your instructions and commentary really well. Your video editing is excellent.
So much this comment I do work really hard on my videos and the editing even though it is definitely not my strength!! It makes me so happy to know that it is appreciated!
Loved the video. Thanks a bunch.
I would rub some real good grease into idle pulley bearings, tensioner pulley bearings as well, you take a look very little...it sealed with nylon seal, so we can use sharp metal pin to pry out, rub good grease in put back seal....I found out way more lasting.....I tried all of my colleaques cars....kept running...longer life...
Keep on fixing Faye...great job.
Awesome, thanks!!
Been waiting for a new vid Faye. Love them
Thx for making the new video i really look forward to watching all of them plus now your belts on.. 'Jiggers, we both said at the same time " I love those pliers" lol... Also I didn't know they made a kit for this, "WOW, this actually would be the first time I would go with something other than OEM only because of your recommendation. Loved your play by play, good job Miss Faye.
I did the 3 timing chain issues on a 2001 ranger 4.0 great truck but as you know the engine has to come out. Local garage wanted 3,000$.. I've done two of them I don't want to do anymore Haha 😁 love all videos Faye.
Awsome Faye. Thanks for the tutorials 👍
Great thorough job! Brutal but you did a great job!
Great video. THANK YOU!!!
Loved the video. And I watched it all to the end. As I always do with car repair videos that I like.
Totally excellent - an otherwise onerous job made much easier with a great instructional video. Thanks Faye! What a totally laid back chicken! I'll go with Continental too.
Thank you Faye
Faye your just so funny 🤣 Thank you for all you do! Much love!
Love watching you work on your 4 runner. I have a gen 1 Tacoma and hoping to some day have a 4 runner.
you made it look easy , give me some hope to buy a 2nd gen tacoma or 3 gen 4runner
Excellent video Faye
Awesome job, I just clicked on the subscribed button, looking forward to seeing your videos. 🔧
Love your smile! I notice the numbers in your right hand! I think is the gears in a manual transmission so original I like it!
Nice work Faye..
Brakes clean works great for a lot of things.
Thanks Faye for making working on a car fun 😁
Awww you're welcome!
Took me like 6 attempts and 2 hrs to learn how to install the timing belt b4 I knew the side that is not tensioned must be on the left tensioner side. Btw great video
....but you did it!! Thank you!!
Nice videos Nice seeing a woman that likes mechanics as much as we men do. Awesome video. 😍😍😍
I admire your work
