    🔧
    Spark plugs used in this video are Toyota Factory Denso. PN: 90919-01192 You can find them on Amazon here: www.amazon.com... but I bought them from the dealership for about $2.50 each!

    Faye, thanks so much for this video. I had a misfire in #6 and I thought I had carbon tracking but it did not show the black line on the plugs. As it turns out the plug wire socket has deteriorated and the spark was exiting the rubber jacket and grounding against the valve cover in the "tube". Replaced the wires and all good to go. Your video demystified the process of removing the plug wires. Awesome!

    Another excellent video on the 3rd gen 4Runner! I have a '01 3400 4Runner. I was chasing down a slight engine stumble just off of idle and only when heavy throttle was applied. I added a TPS, and that helped a bit but... I checked the plugs, and they were very worn - probably original at 144K miles. I installed the proper factory plugs and the stumble and unsteady acceleration are history. Runs like a new engine.

    When I replace spark plugs, I only pull one wire at a time as I change each plug. That way you know you won't get any wires crossed. In the olden days, a tune-up also involved replacing the points and condenser and adjusting the carburetor (what's a carburetor?:)). I'm old enough to remember that; in fact, I learned to drive on a carbureted vehicle.

Just discovered you whilst working on my 02 Toyota Hilux (Tacoma) 2.7 3RZ boosted motor... doing a major overhaul all around.. mostly fuel system and reseal exhaust, fit new bigger fuel pump, looks like current one has died or could be a relay to it as its only 2yr old... and plenty of other servicing and parts getting replaced. Everything from PCVs to Oxy Sensors, just did coils and plug, rising rate fpr upgrade from smaller one, new fuel filter, bla bla.. Its a neat truck thats already totes done up. Many videos need to watch at moment. Very informative and with a female mechanics touch in yr workshop love it. Not that i need any info on plugging, i can do a damn good plugging with the best of em, but looking at vids with interest as yr working on Toyotas and i got alot to do, and some common parts and fixes :))

    I see nobody mentioned, ngk plugs use a nickel plating on their threads to provide anti seize, they advise against it because it can easily cause over torquing

    • @Mike_44
      @Mike_44 3 года назад +1

      Do you mean it’s not advise to coat them with added anti seize paste on the threads because the NGKs are already nickel plated? Sorry I got a little confused and will be doing this for the 1st time..

    • @AlexanderNecheff
      @AlexanderNecheff 3 года назад

      @@Mike_44 that is right.
      If in doubt, double check with your plug manufacturer's documentation. Most newer plugs these days advise against applying your own anti seize due to coatings and metallurgy they've added to the plug threads.
      I would assume if you are buying new plugs for an old car, the manufacturer would have modernized their process here too.
      Older plug manufacturing processes did not include this "premium" feature so a lot of older literature advises to add your own anti seize.
      But again, double check with the plug manufacturer's documentation to see what they advise.
      Also, you might want to let the engine cool a little before changing the plugs. If you do them hot they can be a little harder to get out and might not tighten down as much as you'd want.

    Fun Fact: These came factory equipped with NGK on one side and Denso on the other, for no particular reason. I cant' believe how you manage to pull things loose and disconnect stuff with so little effort. And no injuries. And nothing broke. Maybe its "boomer humor", but how awesome would it be to have a wife with your skills?
    Me: "Honey, can I borrow your torque wrench to tighten my spark plugs?" - Her: "No Honey - just hand tight plus half a turn is all you need"
    And if you (by some miracle) happen to read the comments on videos you made nearly two years ago, what are you standing on?

    You must have had the plugs replaced not to long ago. I just bought a 2002 Tacoma and I’m changing the plugs and they are coming out hard. I’m using a spray oil and it helps but the new ones are getting a good dose of anti seize. So they will come out when it’s time.

    HI there, appreciated the video. It looked like you replaced the whole cord set due to the one crunkled spark wire. Do you suggest replacing the whole set if one ignition coil needs to be replaced, or only the one connected to the ignition coil, or even just leave the wire set alone and simply replace the ignition coil? Thank you for any response.

    Fay I've got a 97 Toyota 4runner just like yours it's red and you help me do projects all the time you're incredibly cool smart funny and cool to be around. I'm sure I was thinking that it would be good fit for you to be working for like John force for a top fuel dragster. I could see you working with the big boys and running and working on the big dragsters or something like that Cause you know what you're doing and you're smart as a whip and you're positive and fun to be around and that's what it takes in my estimation. So I don't know if you read these but I've got fuel leaking on my driver's side middle spark plug area do you know what I can do I bet the guy didn't put it in tight enough now it's missing and I don't want to block my engine can you help me? What would you do should I absolutely have a magnetic 58 so I guess I don't know if you read this if you do if you can give me suggestion that would be great thank you
