    Hi Amelia, great video! To answer your question about free school meals, all children in the UK get free school meals in KS1 (ages 4-7)

    I'm in Scotland and when my youngest was in primary school lunches were free for the first 3 years. She hated school lunches so she took a packed lunch every day. Yes, it was an extra expense but at least I knew what she was eating and could make it a healthy and nutritious as possible. I think you did amazing with your monthly shop x

      that’s great they have that choice! And yeah to be honest would most likely be the same for my eldest 😂. Youngest eats anything, eldest is super picky !
      Thanks for watching! 🌻💛🌻

    Free up to year 2.....unless your child refuses to eat them. 😅 My boy is autistic, and I pack him a lunch every day. Xx

      I hear you mama, my eldest is neurodivergent also, and if we sent him to school I 100% would have to pack him his own lunch! 🌻💛🌻

    I done the sausage comparison maths: the plant ones are 6 for £1.35 and weigh 300g, the Quorn are 12 for £2.95 and weigh 504g, so 6 quorn are £1.47 weighing in at 252g, so the quorn give you a slightly smaller (5g smaller)🤪sausage at a slightly higher price 2p more per sausage🙄Therefore its up to you guys on the taste test...

    Amelia, why don't you buy dried beans? it is so much cheaper! or dry soya mince

    • @ameliasfrugallife
      @ameliasfrugallife  Год назад +3

      Are you in the uk?
      From all the info I have I’ve found, in the uk they don’t work out a huge amount cheaper and in some cases more expensive. Especially when you take into account the price of energy at the moment cooking takes ages and is expensive. (Though If I’m buying chickpeas I will buy those from dry) and also the other beans comes with a lot of the flavour/spices.
      If you’re in the uk and you’ve found bulk dried beans for cheap would LOVE to know! As I can only find small 500g-2kg bags and are normally quite expensive per 100g.

      @@ameliasfrugallife hi Amelia
      Uk yes
      I get them quite cheap in bulk bags from the Asian aisles of the supermarket. You have a point because my electricity bill is bonkers

    • @monica-2918
      @monica-2918 Год назад +1

      It’s just that they expand so much. So a £2 bag of dry beans will last me a month. I’ve always seen it as buying uncooked rice vs buying ready cooked pouches of microwave rice

    • @ameliasfrugallife
      @ameliasfrugallife  Год назад +3

      @@monica-2918 honestly I’m embarrassed to admit the amount of time I’ve spent doing the calculations 😂. It obviously depends also on the type of beans you buy.
      But I’ve always been so sad seeing people from the US have these amazingly cheap bulk bags (talking 5kg+) for crazy cheap and I’m so jealous.
      Perhaps I’ll do a video putting the maths to the test! And figure out what’s cheaper! 😂

      @@ameliasfrugallife ooh please do this!! I would love a deep analysis on if beans lentils and chickpeas are much more economical from dried if you factor in the extra cooking time cost!
