The conflict actually starts in the 600s, not 1948. Everywhere Arab Muslims conquered, they implemented a system of discrimination and repression against other religions and ethnic groups. That's why there are practically no Christians left in the Middle East. There are no Muslim-majority countries where religious minorities are doing well. Not Egypt (the Coptic christians), not Iran (the Zaroastrians or the Bahai), not Afghanistan (Buddhists), not Lebanon or Syrian (maronite Christians). If being ruled by Muslims was so great, Jews wouldn't want their own country. It's not like Catholics in Connecticut insist that they need a separate country from the Protestants.

That is actually not historically accurate. Muslims did impose a tax on non-Muslims, but were otherwise tolerant of different religions, much more so than Christians. In fact when the Muslims came in and took Jerusalem, the Jews rejoiced because their persecution at the hands of the Roman Christians was over. Muslim control over Spain saw a golden age for Jews, which was brought to an end when the Christians retook Spain and implemented the Spanish Inquisition. Jews of the Diaspora had thriving communities in Iraq and Iran fairly late in our history. The Arab hatred of Israel has to be understood in the context of European colonialism and imperialism in the whole middle east, starting in the 1800s and culminating with the Treaty of Versailles in which the European countries split up the Arab world despite their having fought with them as allies against the Germans. Britain had promised the land that now includes Israel to two different Arab kingdoms before eventually giving it to the Jews. Now of course the conflict has taken on religious import, but it is not true that jews and Muslims have a long history of hatred and enmity. Mohamed himself thought of Islam as part of the legacy of Judaism and Christianity.
Muslims took in Sepherdic Jews from Portugal and Spain. Also, Jewish wanting their own land, has to do with Germany in WWII. Zionists were convincing Jews to go to Israel, when many wanted to go to America. Zionism started even before that in the 1800's, and it was unsuccessful at that time, to get large numbers of Jews into Israel.

I wish all politicians would speak direct and factually as this magnificent speech. This is a GREAT speech, and I usually cannot stand Schumer and his politics. However, the problem is that he needs to direct this to the members of his OWN party, especially those who serve in the House.
Directing words is useless, some type of policy action is needed that he is unwilling to do. Does he think to this generation of youths wagging his finger is doing a darn thing.

In Proverbs 25:11 we read, “A word spoken at the right time is as lovely as golden apples in a silver basket”.
One cannot help but notice that at the beginning of your presentation, you felt the need to explain that your speech was not an attempt to label criticism of Israel as antisemitic and not attempt to pit hate against one group against that of another. So what was the goal of your presentation? To tell a long history of how the Jews have suffered? To normalize suffering as we witness the massive amounts of suffering being heaped upon families in Gaza and the West Bank? I must say Senator, it feels as though your words aren’t being spoken at the right time. That being so, I’d reverse the proverb and assert, ‘A word spoken at the wrong time is as horrid as the bombs being dropped on Palestinian children”.
You end with a fervent plea. I’ll end with one as well. Learn the history of the Jewish people. Be willing to consider the judgements of God brought upon Israel all throughout Biblical literature. Reject the double-standard that because one group of people have felt abandoned, isolated, and alone, we should allow them to reap destruction upon another people group. Israel must ceasefire now. And as much as you want the surrounding, watching world to understand the plight and fighting purpose of Jewish people, dare I charge you to consider the same for the Palestinian people of 2023.
Thank you for your time and attentiveness to my thoughts. I will continue to call your office pleading for you to stand on the side of all hostages being released, an immediate and bilateral ceasefire, and an end to occupation and war in the Middle East.
This is probably one of the most insightful speeches I have ever heard. It explains a lot that people allude to implicitly. If American support is no longer there, if international opinion changes as it often does from generation to generation, there is no cornerstone to rest on for Jews. It means persecution and no more family. If you hold an Abrahamic faith to be true, then you probably have learned that one of the first promises God made to Abraham was that his descendants to be as numerous as the stars in the sky. I know people take this symbolically, as in those who share the same heart towards God, but wouldn't it be nice if many generations from now, if this also came about in one of the most evident ways Abraham saw it, and that his almost-sacrifice of his kid leading to a prosperous and happy family? And not like Exodus, or Esther, and so many times in history. Having faith in God should be a blessing, not a target.
He likes the Jewish state so much being the Speaker in the United States. What if America was a Christian State would he like that?

If there is a rise in anti Jewishness, it is logical to ask if Jewish behavior in USA (not in Israel) has contributed to this. The answer may be "no", however, the question must be asked.
