Best short documentary, most Americans are not aware of how aide is dispensed to Israel. Raises important questions , justified concerns regarding funding of the Israeli military. When used to oppress the Palestinians, and now for genocidal warfare, these are crucial areas that the US must reconsider.

I am for business, and believe business interests should be represented (fairly and honestly, of course), but when large amounts of money exchage hands, no matter the lobby (there are many), the appearance of impropriety cannot be avoided. Mind you, the United States has many fine leaders who live and work beyond the fray, and this is good, but the exorbitant amount of money needed to run a successful campaign is the root problem. Not an easy fix, I know.

The U.N. has existed for 75 years and in all that time they have a failing record when it comes to stopping wars. Their record is exemplary though when it comes to passing resolutions and condemning in the strongest possible terms.
Sadly, the UN has become an increasingly ineffective and irrelevant organization. Its corruption and general anti-American sentiment don't help either.
First, we have to ignore civil wars and wars of secession because the UN wasn't set up to deal with conflicts inside countries, its primary role was to deal with conflict and disagreements between countries.
So let us compare wars between countries in the 75 years before the UN came to being (1870-1945) with the 75 years after 1945 (1946-2021). That first 75 year period included 2 very big wars (WW I and WW II), without looking at any of the other wars in that period we can easily see that combining all the wars since 1945 we don't come close to the death and destruction of WW I and WW II. Even if we chuck in all the civil wars, colonial wars and wars of secession between 1946 and 2021 we still don't come close. The comparison looks even worse when you look at per capita deaths because deaths due to war have gone down while the population of the world is more than 8 times what it was in 1870.
We can argue about why there has been less international war since the UN than before the UN. The Cold War might be a contributing factor and ditto nuclear weapons. But looking at the reasons why international wars happen is also important. Before the UN it was Ok for a country to keep any territory it gained in a war. The desire to acquire territory was a major factor in many of the wars before the UN (including both WW I and WW II). When a country applies to join the UN it gives up that right to keep any territory it gained in a war as part of the membership agreement. This has meant that today very few countries want to increase their territory through war (and the few that do, try to disguise this by claiming that the territory was previously theirs and they are just "taking it back" or that they are helping someone else).
It's idiotic if you put hope in the UN solving this. The UN is just another tool set up by the US.
A Start Here episode about the Germany-Israel relationship would be great. As a foreigner living in Germany, I find it astonishing that the unconditional support for Israel is a matter of course in most part of German media, politics and society.
I’m from Germany (not living there anymore!) and what happening there is disturbing. I don’t think the past really was faced, it’s more so that the government gives impunity to Israel and thus try to wash themselves free from the guilt. “Never again” means never again for anyone. Germany should be an advocate for human rights, not another genocide…

This short presentation should be seen in every American schools and by public. We all should be better informed in order to live our lives as individuals and as a nation with moral, ethical principals that we apply in how we relate to each other. Moral, ethical principles should be the ultimate guiding light for the humanity beyond religious doctrines or political gains.

In a way, it’s a continuation of British strategy of controlling certain critical locations. However, in the British case, it was mainly about controlling certain choke points along the sea lanes, such as Singapore, Hormuz, Aden, Suez, and Gibraltar. The U.S. is now the prime naval power.

Really well explained and historically informative even though so short, well done. I'd just like to point out that most evangelical Christians worldwide have a different view than John Hagee and Benny Tate shown here. As an evangelical Christian I want to point out what the New Testament says in Romans chapter 9 verses 6-8 - and also in other places - that THIS Israel is not God's chosen people because it never was God's chosen people. TRUE Isreal is and always was a different Israel. I look forward to the day when evangelical, biblical views get presented in a more balanced way, rather than just by the ultra-pro-Israel ones shown here.
Those views doninated the American Christian views for anvery long time. Im an American Christian. I remember hearing this same rhetoric at church as a kid. Never once did i hear about the plight of the Palestinian. Yes, it does seem to me that Zionists hijack Christian concepts to mislead people for their own benefit. Why do they even name the state 'Israel', not 'the Zion State' or something. This was easily the best explanation I've ever came across in a nice short format. Al Jazeera, in my experience, is great for almost all news... except when it comes to the middle east where its natural biases tent to show through. That's not a criticism, This though was an excellent take, thank you for making it.

If the US wanted to do something to redeem at least a fraction of its moral responsibility, it should come into Palestine and enforce the two state solution on both Israel and Palestine. Perhaps not all that has been lost to the deceptions of Israel can be regained, but surely the major part. It would take good will and the ability to compromise on both sides.

In short from what I understand Israel serves to protect American interests in the middle east and the US serves to protect israeli expansion. When they claim similar interests, they don't mean national values, they are referring to the leech like grip in the middle east which serves both interests. All in all, one fact remains, one of them needs one more than the other. What would really help in understanding the relationship is the stronghold Israel seems to have over the neighboring Arab countries? Why are they acting like they've been paralyzed??
Well, they've witnessed what America and Israel have done to knock the pins out from under Lebanon, Iraq, Libya, Somalia and Syria. That would certainly give them anxiety.

As someone familiar with this history, I can say this is a fair piece of journalism. We supported Zionism because Jews have been persecuted for centuries across the world. But unlimited support at the expense of Palestine has been a colossal failure.
