Hi, Nicole. Great video. I grow about 20-30 large sized vandas indoors under lights. Most of them are doing great in glass vases. I tend to keep about 1/2 water in the bottom of the vase. About once every 1-3 weeks I soak them in the vases with fertilizer. I'm also trying some in clay pots with bark, and some in clay pots with lava rock. I also have one in glass vase with lava. Those in bark are thriving. It's too soon to tell about lava. I grow my neofinitia hybrids in bark. So far so good. I'm newer to the little ones.
Fwiw... When I got the big vandas most had roots 3-4 feet long. I cut the roots to fit the vases. They didn't seem to mind at all.

Hey Nicole. I currently have four bare root vandas which are doing pretty well. I keep them hanging in a south window with supplemental led light for the short, cloudy Ohio winter days and a humidifier near by. I do soak them twice a day in weak fertilizer solution for 30-40 minutes and a quick rinse in rain water. All are growing new roots, leaves, and one has bloomed twice. 🤷‍♂️

Hi Nicole. I have 3 Vanda falcata’s. They are in clay pots with spagnum moss and orchiata bark on top. I have a Lou Sneary that is getting pretty big. That orchid is in a plastic net pot with bark. It needs repotted but will be a challenge because the roots are all intertwined. The pot is a six inch pot. There are 3 nice size fans . I’ll need to cut the pot for sure. Thanks for sharing. 🥰👏🎄

Very nice! Aren't they just easy growers? I hope you get flowers often :). The set up is identical to mine! Good luck wtih potting up Lou Sneary!

Glass vases seem to be the way to go for keeping large Vandas indoors. It gives them air, moisture and the weight of the glass helps keep them from falling over.

I have a neofinetia that I am waiting to see blooms, I have it in a small basket with sphagnum moss. I have an ascofenitia twinkle, also waiting for it to bloom, in a small pot with bark and sphagnum. I also have an ascocenda princess Mikasa in a pot with bark and sphagnum, it is a reliable bloomer for me. I just got a Perreiraara Bangkok sunrise, can’t wait see if i can this one to bloom. It was bare root when i got it and decided to move it into a wire basket lined with coco fiber and sphagnum. Fingers crossed, it will make it through my dry northern winter!

You can do it! Indoors in dry conditions potted seems to be the best option . They seem to struggle bareroot, unless you are able to water frequently and get the humidity up :)

I have got a neofinetia falcata from Krull Smith in August. It was blooming then. Now it looks like it is struggling in my dry conditions. It grows in a clay pot with no substrate. I will add some sphagnum moss to it to cover the roots. Thank you!

I tend to prefer sympodial orchids. Monopodals, one mistake and they are gone. Sympodial growth seems such a better strategy. But I have a couple of Renanthera seedlings that seem to do well. An Angraecum diederi ended up in the trash. It had fungal damage. No way to save it. Kept losing a leaf after another. It had one damaged leaf when I bought it.

Agree with you 100% Sympodial orchids are way more forgiving and drought tolerant. Vandas, Phals, Angrecums... forget to water for a while, and the recovery is hard, sometimes almost impossible, but when they recover... sometimes takes months, even years lol.

Very nice! Good set up, yeah indoors that seems to be the way to go for these guys, unless you can water way more frequently and keep the humidty up for them!

I have a Vanda rhynchostylis srisiaim x rhynchostylis gigantia red that I got from Amazon premium orchids as a seedling. It is growing a new leaf for now. I would not mind trying a neofinetia falcata mini. Maybe this spring or summer.

Nicole, I failed with vanda here in Phoenix, Arizona. It's very hot in the summer outdoor. There's absolutely no moisture inside the house, all dry air! I tried a few but unsuccessful 😥 thanks for this informative video ❤❤❤

It can be so tough with dry indoor conditions and Arizona is dry all year round! Consider trying them in moss in clay pots. Hopefully the set up can make a difference :)
