Simon Rich is just such a freaking delight as a writer. After the last time he was on I picked up a copy of _Hits and Misses_ which includes a short story told from the perspective of Paul Revere's horse, who feels a sense of stolen glory seeing all these monuments people built to Paul Revere when when you think about it the horse did all the work, hauling ass between New England towns so Revere could warn all the townspeople for which Revere got all the credit
I’ve heard John Mulaney mentioning Simon so many times during interviews and had an idea about what he looks like but I didn’t watch any videos of him. Now that I hear his voice, there is something in the way he talks that reminds me of John!
I just finished the audiobook of Glory Days with Mulaney narrating and it is absolutely fantastic. Simon's stories aren't just funny and well-written, they're heartfelt and each one had a little gut punch at the end. John's narration is EPIC. He does some excellent voice acting with all the different characters and I was in full on tears over his reading of the Mario story. Even the way he reads the opening and closing credits is hilarious. I'm a new fan of Simon Rich and I can't wait to read more of his work.
Hey, Simon Rich, you’re not alone in presenting Goliath as the underdog in your story! Malcolm Gladwell (author of ‘The Tipping Point’ and ‘Outliers’) wrote about exactly that in his groundbreaking book: ‘David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants’. In a sincere, unironic way!
So, I’m just this moment purchasing Simon Rich’s book… Audio. The preview in Apple Books with John’s NY accent is pretty good. Thanks Simon. Or thank him for me.

Wow, he writes for the Simpsons?? How prestigious! ("Tonight on Springfield Life, we'll meet a man who has been writing for the Simpsons for the last twenty years!" "[hic] kill me [hic] kill me")
There's a thing called being a "friend of the show". This is a term used when a guest has a good professional relationship with the host and possibly other people that work on at the show. Usually implies that people that staff at the show like working with the guest, and the guest does the show with some regularity. But at this point they may be more like personal friends, which would explain a different introduction.
I just got back from acupuncture because my back is so screwed and I was playing in my teens and Dr Mario in my 20’s. I am 54. Unless he was a baby plumber and Luigi was the adult.
* I would like to state for the record that IF you look at photographs of Arnold riding his bike around town TODAY(2024) he and I have the SAME BODY TYPE. 🤣 It has ONLY taken 40 years, but he and I could be twins. ☺
You’ve got to know gender isn’t 100% biological if Simon Rich and Tig Notaro are of two different sexes. I have so much love for both of them, but they have such similar vibes and looks.
Not a nepo baby, unless you think that includes humorists whose parents were in publishing and journalism/criticism, who grew up middle/upper-middle class, and once rolling (at age 20) received zero assistance. His divorced parents were a theater/movie critic (father) and a book editor (mother).
Good to see Lorne picked him up from the airport on time
That was my highlight of the Mulaney interview yesterday. So subtle, yet so funny 🤣
He flew in last night, him being here today, doesn't show whether Lorne picked him up on time or not.
@@fireflare260Such a weird point to be pedantic on

Rich, Mulaney, and Marika Sawyer might have been the most creative and prolific SNL writing team ever.

Tom Gauld's Goliath is the most beautiful and ... spoiler ... sad story about Goliath ever.
Schwarzenegger? Bob Denver? When she grows up...😂
I'm gonna use that. I'm not getting older, I'm beginning to lose.

The Simpsons since season 9ish sucks... who cares
Seth used to introduce friends as "OUR very good friend" now he does to "MY very good friend" . Curious why

Meyers finally back on the job? He works less than Carson did.
From Ahhnold to Gilligan to college-aged Shaggy (he grows up just enuff to convert to a polo)
Also, this worked bc I just bought the book on Audible

Omg he looks about 25 y.o.
He had a distinguished career at _SNL_ yet no one would bat an eye if he were sitting in an undergraduate class
