The lighting was fine. There is nothing more manly than milling wood! My late Dad had a DeWalt saw in the garage are was always doing some woodworking project. The sound of the buzzsaw, the smell of the wood, the sawdust everywhere....good childhood memories! My Dad could build ANYTHING!
Just a thought: I"m in my mid 70's and vividly remember my parents hanging small bags of cedar shavings in the closets to keep any bugs out. While watching you make the cuts I saw all that cedar dust going on the ground and wondered if that couldn't be used the same way. It might not net much $$ but I haven't seen anyone selling that products for 50 years.
A wonderful video- very interesting indeed. Gorgeous cedar, enjoyed watching how you took a felled tree and milled it into something very useful. Very rewarding work; love your skill in felling, dragging, loading onto the saw, and the tools you used. Thank you for the video- bonus points for the drone camera work!
As the old saying goes, never an ill wind that someone doesn't benefit, and it has, given you some lovely cedar, congratulations. That new shed also keeps the sun off your head as well as keeping your saw in the dry, time and money well spent.
As always - another great video and the lighting was perfect. I could watch this stuff all day if the lord would let me. Now on to my own projects. Keep up the great work and thank you for your effort in making these videos. God bless.
Good looking cedar you milled up there. It must be quite a treat to have a roof over your head while milling. The shade will be appreciated come the summer months.
lighting was good and thank you for letting me watch and hopes that you show your house while your working on it been a builder all my life and know what your doing and wished we had saw mills like yours back in my day, retired now old builder.
I could smell the cedar while watching the video. Amazing how our senses kick in from woodworking in past! Your efforts would also make a great cedar chest or line a closet to keep the moths out! Beautiful wood grain showed with water! You make such great engaging video's from the angles you place your camera. Keep it up, your my favorite woodworking channel. Consider catching the water to use as weather permits and resources allow.
Thank you for showing the woodmizer at work. This was a great advertisement for their saws. You did everything perfectly. Thanks for this and the lighting was just fine.
Fall Line Ridge also cedar is the only wood you can put the shavings in Dog beds, livestock beds & it repels fleas, mosquitoes, insects, moths & other bugs. 😉👍
Rick Harper you are right that’s one reason why people line their closets with cedar. The other reason they line their closets in it is Moths will not get near cedar so therefore they will not eat holes in your clothes if you have Cedar lined closets. 😉😁
@@CCRider5312 rodents like mice and rats also. Cedar is toxic to them. spread the sawdust from cedar around the foundation outside of your home and they just won't come in. There are 2 problems with cedar though, 1) It is an allergen to many people, myself and one of my sisters are allergic to cedar. According to my allergist it is actually a very common allergy. 2) It's wonderful scent is an asthma trigger. Cedar shakes are a 25 year roof. Cedar siding are a 25 year siding. not having to worry a lot about the roof for 25 years is a good thing.
I noticed as you were sawing that it was your first log to be milled in the new saw shed. Cedar is my favorite to mill as well, I always keep wishing for bigger logs. I thought the video was great and the back light was not a problem. I was tickled to see your long beam in on of the shots, glad to see the mill under cover.
That long beam worked out great! Yes, this was the first proper log in the new shed. I cut some cookies last week, but this was the first real log. Thanks for stopping by, Wayne.
I replaced some lap siding that was Cedar. Super expensive to use, and extra absorbent when painted. Took 3 coats to get a nice finish on the wood. Personally I would have used a protective stain or something along those lines but it was up to the person who owned the home. I also as a contractor use Cedar Oil purchase it by the gallon, put it in foggers to kill roaches and bed bugs. Also carry a spray bottle of it. Safe to drink, won't harm children or kids. Kills everything by choking the insect out. Spiders, roaches, bed bugs, fleas, ticks, ants, pincher bugs. It was formulated by the military to combat biting insects. It's cool you have your own portable mill, makes things easier when you can just pluck what you need from the site. Nice video. I hit the like button for ya.
Fall Line Ridge oh man I just love cedar wood the red grain is soo pretty and it smells soo good the lighting was good I could see all details just fine. The shed is very nice adding the cedar boards to it will look and smell soo nice and be very durable. Thanks for the nice video be blessed with loving care and grace.
Fun to watch, wish I was 50 years younger to give it a go. Lighting looked good to me. Wood-Mizer should be sponsoring you. You have sold me on their machines.
The cedar would have made some mighty fine old school folding Adirondack chairs. I appreciate your videos and the lighting was fine. I could smell the cedar from here.
Good video Wes - that Cedar is lovely. No problems with the lighting. Nice to see Foreman Cat again too - He (or She!) must be really close to you because he's never far away from you when you're working! Beautiful Cat! ;-)
Impressed with the machinery. Looks a lot easier to use then our neighbor. Using a chain saw supported horizontal to cut the long plank cut. The log itself is moved along bench by pulley system passing the chainsaw blade. Can smell the Cedar!
The lighting was fine. My wife said so. I could almost smell the cedar while you were sawing it. I love cedar too. It grows well here in east Texas. Can't find many big ones though.
You may not realize how valuable cedar is when it comes to the experimental aircraft (home built aircraft) is! Check with WICKS AIRCRAFT SUPPLY! HOW ABOUT HANGING A BAG AND COLLECTING ALL THE SAWDUST AND SELLING THE BAGS AS CLOSIT OR CHEST ODERIZERS! ENJOYED THE VIDEO PEACE
IMO everything with your video was top notch. Again, IMO, the absence of extremely annoying background music made this such a pleasure to watch!!! I very curious where you live. I live in south central Nebraska and you don’t see guys working outside in T-shirts in February. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you.
LOVIT, lighting was good, may need some help when you put that Beautiful Cedar on that back Wall ! Suggestion, make a 4’ spreader Bar and use two log hooks and using a chain across the top from end too end you can easily carry your logs and keep the dirt from grinding into the bark, with the chain across the Top you can simply move your hook left or right on the chain links to help level the load ! Just a thought ! Thx’s for Sharing
As I saw the slices of the wood take shape I was thinking I would love to make a rather long table top surface with them. Beautiful wood. Thanks for posting this type of video.
Lighting was good! Beautiful boards! Much larger scale than me, but I'm just looking at milling small logs on my $200 Amazon bandsaw! This is very helpful! Thank you for posting!
Lighting was fine. Nothing so dark that you were wondering what was going on. Beautiful milled wood. I’d like to have those first pieces you cut off with bark and sapwood.
we built a building at church a couple years ago for a shelter and closed off one side of it like you are talking about doing. It really restricted the air flow and go unbearable with heat in summer here in Kentucky. Went back in and put the back wall on barn door tracks. Not a big investment but being able to close it to protect items stored under it and open it up to get air blowing through was a game changer. I just worry about you being down south in the summer with no air blowing through. I do not know which direction is your wind however. Just a thought as I had to take a wall similar to this down. I really enjoy your videos and positive message. Keep it up buddy.
That Native Aromatic Cedar is in my opinion, some of the most beautiful wood (and it smells amazing). Seems a pity to waste it on a shed wall. I've built dining tables, coffee tables and all kinds of accent pieces with it. Awesome videos. Thank you and Keep it up please!!
Everything about this video is fantastic, man! Your videos are amazing! I do have a confession to make though. Mill Cat is probably my favorite part of all these videos. She/he is just so stinking cute! Anyway, you're doing awesome, and I just wanted to let you know that!
Wow, that wood is just too pretty for "the back of the shed." I'd be using it for a living room coffee table, a narrow table in back of the couch for holding lamps, a dining room table, a thick piece for a fireplace mantle, round pieces for wall clocks, front and back doors, and more!

Jeff Behn you took the words right out of my mouth. Its amazing and you can take all his methods back 200 years or so with mules ect. Great vid.
You make your job look like fun. I love watching your videos.
Perfect and the saw house is wonderful and the lighting Perfect!
As the old saying goes, never an ill wind that someone doesn't benefit, and it has, given you some lovely cedar, congratulations. That new shed also keeps the sun off your head as well as keeping your saw in the dry, time and money well spent.
The old saying is, "Tis an ill wind that blows no good", therefore the wind that brought down this tree wasn't an "ill" wind.....
What a great find. Youve done a fabulous job sawing it.

Yes it will. I'm especially looking forward to it on 95 degree sunny days,
Watching this young man's videos brings my blood pressure from 170 to 140. Thanks mike

Looked great as far as lighting. Very easy to see. Beautiful log.
Thanks for sharing. You harvested some beautiful cedar. The lighting was excellent.
You've made a nice job of the shed and yes the lighting good. You've got enough walking and maneuvering room too. Just what you needed to start with.
It's a huge upgrade for sure.
Lighting was ok! Boards look awesome and I bet they smell great 👍!
The smell was amazing. It never gets old.
Hard to beat the beauty of southern red cedar....or the smell. Another great video! PS All the trees are budding out round here.
We've got some buds coming out too. Greening pastures as well. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for showing the woodmizer at work. This was a great advertisement for their saws. You did everything perfectly. Thanks for this and the lighting was just fine.
Nothing like Cedar for color !! 👍

The wood is beautiful! Lighting was great!
I can smell it now.. couple years ago I milled 700 board feet of cedar.. never got tired of the smell.. love your set up..
It's wonderful stuff.
