I get a kick out of those comments to Mark about turning the logs to much, I worked for Weyerhaeuser as a sawmill superintendent for 5 yrs here in western Canada and I don’t think people realize how many times a log may get rotated after it’s been scammed before it goes through the canter for max yield, the canter is cutting 4 sides at once, you have to turn the log 4 times to get something you can work with.. The mill wasn’t super modern and we only produced up to 2X10, so if the cant was bigger then 10” inch it had to go though a set of parallel 12” bandsaws where the operator would turn the cant for max yield, depending on the size up to 24” it may have to go through the bandsaws again, again turned for Max yield then go through a set of gangsaws where the operator would again turn the cant, so your doing a dam fine job sir keep up the good work love the content. RUclips should have a dummy filter for the comment section lol.
I'm disabled and love to watch others do things that I used to. I would like to see what that cut-off saw is doing with some of the big wedges sometime. Been suscribed for a couple years now and was fascinated with the sawmill build, upgrades and maintenance of the bus motor and carriage. Thanks for the site!
Fast becoming a binge watcher of this channel. As an avid woodworker this is really fascinating to watch. I have a local sawmill nearby but never get to see this process for the lumber I purchase. That black oak log was a beast and turned out some REALLY nice pieces.
Love your sawmill! Also the logs you get are great size and produce Wonderfull lumber. For your log turner I thought "Rolley Polley" might fit the task it does. haha.
You are are doing a great job how you saw the log’s and I personally am learning a lot from you and T.H.E. Ed myster thank you and please keep doing what your doing
Hi Anthony & Roxanne ur greenhouse is coming along well. Unfortunately u will have to build another rabbit hutch for all ur new bunnies what about building a rabbit tractor ❤ ur subscriber Peter from SC
Hi - I can appreciate the talent and work of this band and vocalist, more so when I see/hear your reaction and analysis, but still don't find it a listening experience I'd want to repeat . . . Your knowledge and communication skills are, however, an absolute delight, and I'll continue to watch your reactions, even of music I'm not keen on, just to enjoy your enjoyment!
Lads, I don't see an Irish flag hanging(Green White Gold). love what you do and how you do it. My father was the Manager of a local mill when I was a young boy growing up in the 50s all belt-driven saws and plainer. Loven watching this well done.
I am a disabled Marine Corps veteran, and I sit at home all day every day and I watch you guys sometimes eight hours a day. I find it very interesting what you guys do and it’s very entertaining with the commentary that you give as you’re cutting the logs keep up the good work.
Hi Mark, enjoy watching your videos and can't wait for the next one to be loaded. My suggestion for naming the log turner is Barkley. All the best from South Africa
Remarkable degree of craft and skill in getting the most usable lumber out of that oak log! And that was some chunk of wood to be tossing around! Even with all your expertise, it always amazes me how much unavoidable waste there is in trying to make square lumber out of round trees. If trees were more obliging, the least they could do is grow themselves in a square or rectangular configuration.
Thanks for the view from the left side. Nice seeing production rather than just scrap being produced by ZZ Mark. Wishing you gentlemen and your respective families another blessed week filled with peace, gentle weather, nourishing rain and restful evenings. Peace Mark
Greetings from the great white north, love your videos Mark, especially when your sawing the larger logs and fiddling with them to minimize your waste. You are a lucky man to have two hard workers like Eddie and ZZ Mark, good work guys. I’ve seen Chewie as a preferred name a couple of times in the comments but I was thinking Chewbarka would fit the turner, you can call it Chewie for short. Regards Mel from Quesnel
Hey Mark I have an idea for the log turner name. Since the log turner is a no non sense hard working device, you could use a respectable title such as used in the military and law enforcement. The log turner could simply be LT. Such as in LT=log turner and in the spirit of rank LT= lieutenant . Anyway, you guys keep up the great work and videos. Thanks
New watcher. I have soooo many questions. How do you clean all the bark underneath these machines and what do you do with it? Do you sell the sawdust? Especially cedar chips. What do you do with all the pieces that are useless for logs? I would love to watch the clean up.
Greetings from northeastern Arizona I really wished I lived closer to you guys so I could come by lumber from you because oak is hard to get out here we have pine spruce Aspen and a little cedar
The log turned should be called the Badger or Honey Badger, it pushed log around, it doesn't take any lip no matter how big or ugly the log you throw at it. I love you content keep up the good work and fight the good fight. From Texas.
Hi boys my name is Rich Chambers and I worked at two different sawmills for ten and eleven yrs. First Wetsel-Oviatt sawmill in El dorado Hills California for ten years, then Big Creek lumber mill till I retired in 2012. Have you thought about building a hammer mill for your scrap to make sawdust. I built one in the machine shop for Big Creek and it worked great.
I see another viewer suggested ‘Ike’ for the log turner name. I see the log turner has those dogs or spikes to roll logs. Those look similar to ‘Tina’ Turner’s spiked heels. Tina can get the job done! Thx for the videos. Much enjoyed!
"Thats a big'ole hefty slab, there." He's like a sports caster of log cutting!. I love it!

Love this log. Tons of character. Not a classic beauty but a beauty in my eyes.

I am new to this channel, I honestly love it!! The chatoyancy of Black oak is wonderful.
I think Chewie for the log turner, it is always chewing the bark off. Love the videos, happy summer
Watching you guys and your knowledge of your work has given me hope that passing along knowledge is still alive
This is so addictive to watch and I’m not actually sure why 🤷🏻♂️ great job guys 👌🏻👌🏻

I only just started watching but I'm already a binge watcher! Enjoy every aspect of these guys videos! 😀
Love your sawmill! Also the logs you get are great size and produce Wonderfull lumber. For your log turner I thought "Rolley Polley" might fit the task it does. haha.
Teamwork makes dreamwork, awesome watching you guys turn logs into nice useable lumber.

Great video, when your bus motor gets the RPMs pulled down, it reminds me of my childhood. The tone and grunt is nostalgic. Keep her screaming!

I couldn’t say it any better than that
I would call the turner "Will" as In Will Turner!
New watcher. I have soooo many questions. How do you clean all the bark underneath these machines and what do you do with it? Do you sell the sawdust? Especially cedar chips. What do you do with all the pieces that are useless for logs? I would love to watch the clean up.
